Help with Root on Sprint Hero - Hero, G2 Touch General

ok theres probably been over a hundred posts on this already, so bare with me if you can. Im completely new with all of this, so im learning as I go.
So far Ive tried both methods that the unlockr recommends; the one click root, which gave me the
error [140]: bootloader version error
then i tried the goldcard method, which worked great up until I had to use RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release again, and it did the same bootloader error.
Heres my phone info
Model Number
-HTC Hero
Firmware Version
-1.5
Baseband Version
-1.04.01.09.21
Kernel Version
-2.6.27-533ce29d
Build Number
-1.56.651.2 CL85027 release-keys
Software Version
-1.56.651.2
any help would be totally appreciated, thanks again guys

hxxp://theunlockr.com/2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/
i used that last week, the manual, enter commands step by step version and it worked fine.
if you need any help pm me.

The Goldcard method is for GSM Hero's only. What I recommend is using the Fresh Kitchen to root your CDMA Hero.

thats pretty nifty for making a slim rom for your hero. thanks, here i am hacking my phone manually. OH WELL

Hero change from Asian English to WorldWide English

I just got my Hero today not noticed that under the "Locale" all I have available is English(Indonesia), English(Vietnam), and English(Malaysia). This gives me the impression that I am running an Asian version of Android.
I would like to change to the world wide english version, however the ROM I downloaded did not work (RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe). It kept giving me an invalid carrier ID I believe. The phone is completely unlocked.
I then tried to install MoDaCo's 04/11 2.9 - MoDaCo Custom ROM Core. When I tried installing the patched recovery image when I did the 'fastboot-windows boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.2.3.img' it gave me an error and wouldn't let me go any further.
I am currently running:
Firmware Version - 1.5
Baseband - 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel - 2.6.27-8dd6dee [email protected]
Build - 2.73.728.5 146733 CL#61267 release-keys
Software - 1.0.0.A6288
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
I have also the same set with same problem. Cannot change the ROM. Anybody did it? guide us please.
I just did that yesterday, exact same issue.
Follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
Works like a charm!
I also downgraded my ROM to 2.73.405.5 using the method in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683 but I did not used the QMAT for reversing cid instead i used http://hexrev.soaa.me/. One of my SD card did not work so I used another one and finally I got it worked.
Now I have non-rooted ROM (Origional) and I am little bit hesistant to root my phone. Is there any advantage of rooting the phone. I changed my ROM just to get rid of Chinese and get the android app market access.

Rooting German T-Mobile G1

Hi,
I own a german HTC Dream which I would like to gain root access to. I tried to follow the instructions on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
but I already fail in the very first section: "Preparing to Get Root on your Phone":
"You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card."
I do see that gray screen but it tells me "not allow" and after a few seconds it changes to a colored screen with several gradient bars that says "Serial0".
Here some information about my phone:
Model number: G1
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 65.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 [email protected] #19
Build number: DRC92
Can I root this phone at all?
When I read the instructions on the like I just gave, I don't even understand what's happening there. Maybe somebody can explain in a few words what actually happens when a phone is rootet. I consider myself quite knowledgable about bootloaders, kernel and the linux boot process, so I though it would be easier to understand what's going on there.

You could try following the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
There's a link on there the European downgrade file RC7
U have either create a goldcard or use 1clickroot
@jackslim: I just tried the guide provided by Cyanogen but without luck. Even with the RC7 (Europe) Version of the DREAIMG.NHB I cannot flash the device: I get "not allowed" followed by a nicely colored screen saying "Serial0"
@maxisma: Can you explain this further? Any guides you can recommend?

Is the 1clickroot still working with Android 1.6? I was thinking it was only possible until Android 1.5.

You are right, 1 click root doesn't work with 1.6...
Use the goldcard-method, there are a lot of tutorials on xda.
Had the same problem and used the goldcard. Worked out. If you need help with the goldcard just ask.
I own a german G1 and tried the goldcard version. I couldn't find a tutorial which worked for me so i tried stuff from different tutorials. The best way was a combination of Ubuntu (for SD-Card utilities and number) and the goldcard (through the "email"-version).
dude i've got the same problem with my G1 phone could you email me the tutorial or just the link at with one works ??
I've got pretty much the same spec's of the guy that come up with this problem thanks and way and mabe I could use some help so if you'dd be so nice to add me in msn ?? : [email protected]
thanks
no need for goldcard or downgrade anymore.. just use exploid

The process can be done on MAC, Windows, or Linux. The directions in the forums are about is simple as they're going to get. You can head over to cyanogenmod.com, and see if you find those ones easier to follow.
Alright, mainly i wanted to know it the build number i posted above is rootable because i was reading the rooting instructions and that wasent anything close to the number that they suggested. I think it was something like SL1.330 is what they suggested. Also im not sure exactly which root instructions to follow.
What that is saying is that you need the latest SPL for the guide you're readin, which I'm assuming is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
It also shows you where to get the SPL.
Alright i started the process, and i think i downloaded the right tools to get my phone to sl 1.33 and for some reason when i boot my phone into fastboot mode i cant use my macs command prompt to boot it into fastboot bot recovery? can anyone tell me how?
does his method work with the HBOOT 009 not 010 and with 32B?

New Guy

Hi have been searching and searching but info is hard to come by and is out of date everywhere so thought i would ask here......I just got the htc hero gsm and new guy i am it asked me to update so did not here is the info i have......
firmware 2.1-updated1
baseband version 63.18.55.06OU_6.35.15.01
kernel version 2.6.29-5f74b252
build # 3.31.751.1 cl183682
software # 3.31.751.1
webkit 3.1
My question now?? will there be a way for me to root(hack) the phone so i can put custom software and all the other goodies i see around the site....
Apparently it is possible. Try using BTDAG's guide linked on my signature to install flashrec. If it throws up an error 1st time, try an older version of flashrec,.. if it fails again, use the goldcard method.
Report back with how u get on.

Not sure that guide will work for me. It says that that with 2.1 i am f**ked. Well if anything does come out at least i am on the best site for info. Thanks
I read a few days ago that the new 2.1 for the Spint Hero has been achieved by using the same/similar method to that on the EVO. I'm not clued up on the whole rooting thing enough yet, but hopefully this means it will be possible on the official 2.1 update.
(at the same time, I thought someone had rooted the 2.1 update from Taiwan, but I don't know if I magic'd this up in my sleep, in which case.... thats pretty sad....)
Stu
I hope there is somthing to root this 2.1 or somthing to downgrade. Time will tell.
I will the guide a go later today and will post if anything.......
hello, any success on this?
I'm trying to help a friend in the same situation...googled it for days now, without success.
tks

Support for Baseband 7921 - Tips,Guidance,How-To's

While the rest of you guys have been tinkering and hacking your Dell Streaks for quite a few months now, those of us in Canada have only just started getting our Dell Streaks through the Rogers network.
Unfortunately Dell is shipping these Streaks with the Baseband numbered as 7921 - and very little, and in some cases, zero tutorials or information is available on doing anything with this Baseband.
Having come from an HTC Desire that has been ridiculously easy to root and modify, I am pleading, almost begging for the Dell Streak community here on XDA to help out with any solid clues and/or tips to working with 7921.
Even the Superboot method doesn't have any files available for 7921. As of now, I can't root this thing unless I just take a blind chance with some other Baseband's superboot method.
Having read some other forum posts, both here and on MoDaCo ( and believe me, I have used the search feature to go through every related post possible ) - I know that there are a few people out there who have managed to root 7921 and even upgrade, but nobody has posted a single solid tutorial.
Please?
A few tips, some guidance, maybe a tutorial?
Pretty please?
Anyone?
Im in this boat. Ive tried everything i cannot get this thing to upload a update.pkg i can flash recoveries no problem, nothing seems to work i have tried going to o2 1.6 will not flash o2 2.1 nothing. mostly i get the status 7 error while its trying to flash assert failed /tmp/boot.img
I rooted with universal androot.
actually does anyone have the "original" recovery that came with a 7921 device?
Can you try using this : mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg
smoku on #dellstreak – freenode on IRC suggested it. This should also flash the AMSS and I'm presuming that it will change your baseband to 00. That should open up the possibility of updating to Dell 2.2 or Steve's ROM.
But I can't confirm this until you try it first.. let me know please?
Well I still have a Virgin 7921 phone, if I can figure out how to extract the recovery image. I've never done that before..
I bought mine a few weeks ago and I followed a couple of tutorials in this forum and the modaco forum as well... I was able to change my baseband to 00 and after that update to stock 2.2 .... now I'm running the 318 build and i'm very happy with it....
Just search for the guide to downgrade to baseband 00 is a little tricky but it works... at the end you will have enough experience to move to any build or baseband.

Hi Ivancho,
Is there any chance you could provide us with the exact link to the directions you used? I've read so many different sets of the instructions that I'm confused now. I swear, if I can successfully get 2.2 on this without screwing it up I will write a full blown walk through myself

FOTA Model name mismatch, rebooting in 30 seconds.
got that while trying to flash the above.
Dammit. Sorry. Was hoping that would work. Kind of getting demoralized with this now.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!do this. i just finished and now am at build 6601! This works!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805112
scroll down till u get to where it says
if you just wanted to revert to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then you are done. If you are going to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we have to change the system so it will upgrade the the AT&T ROM.
