"Low" image quality in Opera! - HD2 General

Hi there...
I Just have a question...Why the image quality in opera is soo low..in IE is much better,is there any way to incrase the image quality??
Thanks in advance!

Anyone help's...im getting nervous on zooming images and then just a blurry image...i would use IE but is terribly slow...pls help me!

maybe you have activated opera turbo? if so, deactivate it and try again

Opera turbo is only in the Opera 10 version but i currently using the 9.7 version anyone could help?

Anyone know something about my problem? Is that normal that the image quality is so low?

Should be in options as opera turbo or something similar, just try a few of them

in options there is nothing similar only cache size, java script, pop up and thats it!
It s didapointing this quality...

I've noticed it too - and I don't have turbo mode on. Just seems to be low quality when you zoom in (normal zoom to the level where you can read the text - not magnifying zoom) on pics.
Would love a fix - I use flickr a lot for my photography but opera 10 (as I am using) often makes images have that 'jpeg saved at too low a quality' look.

Hi Guys.
This might sound stupid, but i once heard that it was your network operator who actually has something to do with it through the data plan.....
...apparantly they reduce the image quality through the data plan.

off
turn off turbo mode homie

The way to check if this is happening is to try the image in a different browser such as PIE, if the image is clear then it's an Opera issue.
Or you could turn of the data connection and test via wifi, if it's still not high quality then it's an Opera issue.

Yes, some operators automatically resize the images before sending them to you, to save on bandwidth. Not much you can do if it's the case.

Low resolution images with Opera

A colleague of another website pointed this, which went unnoticed until I paid attention. The problem is simple, fire Opera, load any website and see the images rendered in half resolution. All the images look pixelated when you double tap to zoom in; if you zoom in further it gets worser.
Anyone else?
Opera Mini 4.2 doesn’t have this problem, the built in Opera Mobile does.
Most likely your network proxy compressing them on the fly to save their bandwidth. I'm fairly sure orange do it.
Nope, I'm on WiFi connected to a network without any kind of proxy.

Also im noticing similar for example in Rss Hub, pictures just look disgusting, comprared to NetNewsWire in iphone for example. Opera is not this ugly, but I noticed that too when i got this phone. I thought its just my imagination...
I have the same problem also in PIE., but in opera it's even worst.
I have just tried with my Diamond, and same thing. So it must be Opera that has designed the browser to present lower resolution images in order to preserve memory or speed up browsing. Nevertheless, it's a pity that you don't have the real thing on such a high resolution screen.
Opera Mini 4.2 does use full resolution images, but more compressed. It looks much better.
and there's nothing in opera:config
Yes, I've looked at opera.ini but there's nothing related. The registry doesn't have any setting either .
Nice to find you also here igalan (nos leemos...).
Doesn't look so bad for me.
Make a try with google images in full resolution and zoom in. No pixelation at all until you zoom too much
Hi man!
Ok, I've found the reason of all this. When you double tap on Opera, the zoom level that is being applied is larger than 100% which means that pictures are stretched and results in some pixelation. Manually reducing the zoom level until you get the page rendered in 1:1 resolution (not zoomed out or zoomed in) gets you full quality images as well.
i connected my laptop up to mt hd via wifi to use it's HSDPA connection. browsing in firefox images are rendered in half resolution. when i hover over an image a message appears saying press shift+r to improve the quality of this image. when i do that it downloads the image again in full resolution.
the fact that i'm using firefox on my laptop and just using the internet connection on my phone makes me think that my network provider is the problem.
what do you think?

Poor Image Quality on Opera 9.7

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this is turns out to be something really stupid and simple, but I've looked about for ages and can't seem to fix this problem...
I was looking on the tweaks page and decided to try the tweak to allow me access to the iplayer website. All worked well and I had no problems on the web page, but ever since I've done this ever website i seem to goto all the images now seem really grainy and poor. I've since changed back the "Custom User-Agent" field to what it was before, but this hasn't made any difference.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, or at least know a way to restore it to how it was before? Just hoping for a quick-fix rather than another hard-reset...
Many thanks in advance
Haven't you experimented with Opera Turbo too ? Since new Opera Turbo uses pretty high image compression. Opera Turbo can be turned on somewhere in opera:config on HD2.
Hmm not that i can see, the option is still unticked there so i don't think it's that... But i'll have a play about and post back what happens. Thanks though!
UPDATE: I've had another look and Turbo is turned off. I even tried loading up a page on Internet Explorer just to check I'm not just being fussy, but the image quality is much better on IE that Opera all of a sudden...
normally you can set the image quality in opera. there must be a setting somewhere that lets you select high/medium/low quality.

I agree, and I'm glad someone's raised this. It's one of those things that makes me think "I must check on XDA to see if anyone else thinks that the image quality is a bit pap", but I always forget.
Thanks for asking this

I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on this one.. On a nice large screen I want all pictures to look their best. Things like the google logo etc looks terrible. Surely there is a mod/setting that can be changed!?
yes but opera mini has a built in turbo mode , and the picture quality is 110% sperior to everyhing else
change show pictures in user prefs to 2

In mini you can set picture quality.
Opera turbo has to be turned off if you want god picture qualities.
My apologies for having missed this thread: I started another one on the same subject here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622661
Seeing as this problem affects me not just in Opera but in IE as well, my tentative conclusion is that it's not the application that's the problem, but my mobile carrier (T-mobile in my case). If I (and others who came to the same conlusion, many before I did) are correct, then what happens is that the carrier detects you are requesting a JPEG image on your data connection, fetches the JPEG itself, recompresses it to make the file smaller, and then forwards on to you the compressed version. Opera or IE is unaware of this, and simply displays the image it gets. This image is also cached; so, if you fetch the compressed version you will see that same compressed version again the next time you visit the page, even if you're browsing over wifi. The only way to see the uncompressed version is to exit Opera, go back in, clear the cache, then connect to the page in question over Wifi or ActiveSync.

opera pics blurry on hd2 ..helpppppp??

when i zoom in on website pics, pics and text are blurry as hell. it looks terrible . need help, how do i fix this??????
Disable "Turbo Mode"...
on opera 9????
how do you turn turbo off???
This was why I changed to Opera 10.. Wouldnt go back to 9 now. I never use pinch to zoom anyway.
It is blurry because of the dot pitch. You're actually stretching that image to 800 pixels wide.
(Edit: A better resize algorithm could help too)
Maybe you are with Tmobile, they use terrible image compression to save on bandwidth. well in the UK atleast.

Opera 10 poor image quality even with turbo off? why?

Using opera on my hd2 I get very poor image quality, even with turbo off.
I have looked through all thread i can find on this but no luck.
No matter what data connection i use to get internet, including wifi, image quality is poor.
However if i display the same webpage on windows IE that came on the phone, image quality is great.
Also my network provider does not compress images!
What can i do to make my opera display better quality images?
no issues with PQ here although they load up grainy at first and then once they are completely loaded look great
in my settings I have only load images set to on and everything else set to off and then under advanced plug-ins are set to on

exactly the same as me but im still getting very low res images
I think some networks can affect this.......
I remember reading a while ago about some people on tmobile uk having crappy images due to some sort of compression put in place by tmobile......
Not sure if its still the case but it could be the cause of your problem......
thanks but that isnt my problem, as when i use internet explorer, images display fine. Its something opera is doing

Adjust MMS compression settings

Anyone know if there's a way to adjust the mms compression settings? I use shootme to take screenshots and when I send them to friends, it's completely unreadable and blocky. I'm guessing because it gets compressed so dam much.
Some roms raise the mms size limit, that should help.

Hey guys, my fiance's Shift has somewhat of the same problem. She'd take a picture with every possible setting on 'high' and they look great on the phone itself. If you view the pics on a PC from the SD card, they look pretty good, too. The problem appears when she sends pics as mms to me or other phones (other 'droids, iphones, BBs...you name it): these attachments arrive in 'thumbnail' format! You can zoom in, but all the original quality goes down the drain
Shift is rooted and I flashed....don't remember what lol. I think it was the 'official' update...is it called AOSP? Sorry, kinda of a n00b here
Any ideas?

Might want to try MikShifted G v1.76 or Supreme Sense v8 . Both have the MMS Compression settings adjustments your talking about. The pic quality is also great even when you send an MMS.
To add to prboy1969's point the you will probably need to be on a custom rom that has those settings tweaked. Although you should still be able to send a pic and have it come out ok on the other end.
