Contact app - Hero CDMA General

I flashed Darchdroid and I love the ROM but I'm not keen on the stock contacts app. I want the ability to see groups. What is your favorite not stock/htc contacts app?

i believe darchdroid uses aosp apps only meaning the contacts app is aosp. What you must want IS the stock HTC app.... not sure where you can find it, nor WHY you would want HTC People over AOSP contacts, but I am sure you could if you looked.

CyanogenMod Sense alternative

Hi!
I would really like to try out a CyanogenMod build on my HD2. Till now I have only played with the Sense builds. The reason for that is the Sense contacts, calendar and dialer apps integration, and exchange server integration for business mail.
The most important part to me are
the abillity to link Facebook, Twitter and Google contacts together in the contacts app (exchange is not important to me for contacts)
the T9 dialer functionality
the Facebook for Sense integration into the calendar app
and the exchange email client
Does anybody know of any good substitute apps for the above mentioned features? I'm not interested in the HTC widgets and HTC camera.

1. Shockingly, the Facebook and Twitter app would take care of that.
2. Dialer One seems to be pretty popular
3. Dunno
4. Built-in, called Email
Thanks for answering. Does Facebook and Twitter now combine similar contacts into one contact? I think that the newest version of the native Facebook Android app actually syncs with the calendar by default now.
I think it adds the contact but won't merge contacts with the same name. I'm having the same issue. Gone from sense to CM 7

So you are saying that, it links together facebook contact with the contact in your phone, making his profile picture as caller id picture on your phone for example ?
I would recommend you to try launcher pro on top of cyanogenmod7 , even though it doesn't have everything that sense has, it has a launcher that's pretty close to sense , it has widgets like the calendar with agenda, a friends stream for facebook and twitter, or you can do them individually, a favorites widget just like sense, good animation when scrolling thru the pages in the homescreen. I really like it!

Sorry for interupting, but im intrested in Sense like dialer, and sense like people ( for example, persons facebook profile picture appears as my contact picture, caller id ect..)
isnt CleanDroid a CM desire build?
Apparently if you go to edit the contact then press menu again then you can join contacts similar to linking them where sense is available. This was written by someone else on here. Can see who but credit goes to them as this does work.

New to the Scene

I finally broke and got a smartphone. I was against getting one until I switched to Sprint(I hate Verizon) and opted to get the 4g Shift. Love it. Just rooted it, no problems there. I'm running the NonSense ROM with the 1.8ghz Kernel and it works awesome.
I don't like that the texts don't display the Facebook pictures anymore, any suggestions?
I'm also trying to find a way to update my Voicemail. I try running the .apk using a file manager but it says "no space for application" and I don't know how else to install.
Anyways, I'm looking forward for the polished versions of all these ROMS. I do love the ROM I'm using though!

The texts don't display fb pictures anymore because you're running a rom without sense so the native message app on your phone won't sync the photos..what you could do is install fb from market and sync it with all contacts..should fix this..
How much space if available on your phone to install to? I use adao file manager just cause it shows a little completion bar for phone mem and sd mem

I downloaded the FB app from market and sync'ed with all contacts but still no luck.
I love the new Phone app that it came with. Much more user friendly, I'm not so hot on the messaging app.
The error isn't that it isn't space left, its "no application available" when I try to install the .apk file.
On the facebook picture on contacts, on a AOSP rom, you have to go to each contact, and edit, then press menu and join, and you can join it with a synced facebook contact. Make sure you have facebook to sync contacts (can adjust in the facebook app and in settings/accounts and sync
As far as voicemail, if you want to run non sense roms, I suggest getting google voice, and set it up for your voicemail, you'll save a lot of headaches. (Actually, I suggest google voice for voicemail whether your on aosp or sense, I like it way better)
And if you don't like the messaging app, there are a ton of replacements in the market. Handcent is popular, but kinda heavy. Try each and see what you think.

Thanks alot! I tried that but under my ROM it makes me pick between two different "contact" editors and when I try to edit it through the old "sense" looking one it FCs.
I will look into Google Voice. Thanks for your help!
Are you using a sense stripped rom or a true aoso rom? If it's just sense stripped, stripping sense from it may have broken something. If it's aosp, there shouldn't be two different contact apps...

Email/Sense?

Ok, so I've been trying out a bunch of different ROMS. Despite a bunch of reading, I'm still not really sure what "sense" is, or what the difference is between versions (or how to know which version I'm on). Seems like it's basically some UI stuff and eye candy with the launcher, with a couple of custom apps. While I don't care about most of the UI stuff (and the non-sense ROMS seem faster/more customizable anyways), the mail app is a showstopper for me. The sense email app seems much better than the stock android one (I assume that's what I'm using on the non-sense ROMs).
1. From what I've read, there's no way to get a sense app on a non-sense ROM, right?
2. Barring that, here's what I need from an email app. Haven't been able to find it yet:
a) combine multiple accounts
b) view unread messages only
c) select all messages
d) push
Anything solutions out there (if there's a way to do "b" and "c" on the stock app, I'd love to know about it)? I don't want to forward everything to my gmail acct.
the android gmail account lets you open multiple gmail accounts, works for me since the only 2 email accounts i use are both gmail, one for personal and one for school
Email on Sense is FAR better than stock Android. In fact, stock Android (including offspring like CM and MIUI) Email is almost total crap.
Nothing to do about it. Either use Sense ROM or use special Email app like Touchdown.
One thing I like most about sense version of mail app is the ability to set peak and off-peak sync frequencies.

[Q] Transferring contacts to CM7

I recently installed CM7 on my phone and I have been periodically switching between my backup of stock 2.2 and CM7, in order to retain the functionality of my phone but use CM7 when I want to. I'd like to make CM7 my everyday platform. However, I'm having a problem with contacts.
I have my initial stock froyo contacts backed up to my google account using the default settings, and on CM7 it is importing contacts from the google account and from facebook. Problem is, it didn't import many of the phone numbers I added to facebook contacts as part of the motoblur contacts list. The other problem is on CM7 I can't edit a facebook contact to also make them a phone contact, which frankly is a bit ridiculous based on how simplistic it is to do using 2.2 with motoblur.
How can I transfer all my contacts from 2.2 to CM7? Also, how do I add a phone number to a facebook contact without creating a completely different contact on CM7?
Contacts.vcf look up the instructions. Worked for me. Hope that helps.

[Q] Facebook Contact Sync

Any stock Android roms out there that carry this Touch wiz feature? Im looking for the Facebook contact sync feature where phone numbers are also transferred. Not just pictures and links.. this is crucial to me, I haven't been able to find ANY stock Android rom that carries this over..
No CM or ASOP roms have this functionality. You will need to dowmload Haxsync from the Play Store. I believe it is $1.99 but it is your only choice and works juast as intended.

Yeah that really stinks.. Haxsync does not sync phone numbers which is what I really wanted
What I did was jot down their numbers and save them.
