Hey,
When I plug my phone into the Mac, it is recognized and iphoto opens up, but under the "<MT3GS>" there are no photos showing.
My nexus one was awesome, plug it in and all the photos show right up in iPhoto.
Anyone have any ideas. Or, anyone not having any problems at all with iPhoto and it just works fine out of the box?
this could work:
http://vowe.net/archives/010622.html
make a symlink to the camera folder
some how did not work for me (yet)
So the phone isnt detected as mass storage on macs then?

No. Ace42 said that the phone is detected as mass storage, but that iPhoto doesn't find any photos to import from the storage device.
iPhoto doesn't sync with Nexus S

This didn't work for me on my Nexus S either. Bummer. Has anyone managed to sync Nexus S with iPhoto?
EDIT: But this worked! Yay! http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/g9hbg/problem_iphoto_wont_autoimport_photos_from/

Is there a way to connect the TF101 to my computer as a mass storage device? Right now I end up with "Transformer TF101" as a portable media player in My Computer - It would be much more helpful to get the behaviour of my smartphone (just looks like another drive connected to coputer).
You know, I was wondering the same thing. I have been annoyed with having to move information to the tablet then to the meida storage device. Don't ask about my lack of an SD card reader. I had one that worked and now it appears like it doesn't.
Regardless this is is something I was hoping for. Moving information to the SD card, w/o a reader, shouldn't really be a two transfer process.
Anyone been able to resolve this issue? My Win7 laptop sees the TF like a USB drive but my WinXP desktop can't direct copy/paste with the TF.
Hi anyone sort this? My Win7 PC always sees it as a media player and never as mass storage this really cripples data transfer rates, really would like some help.
I need to test this, but maybe multi mount from the market will do the trick.

Honeycomb uses the MTP protocol rather than USB mass storage. It does this to avoid having to kludge apps2sd as they have in phone versions of Android.
To the poster with XP, XP doesn't support MTP out of the box but it is added with Windows Media Player 9+.

So outside of rooting is there no way to get mass storage on a windows 7 pc?

By the way, epic fail. Dosen't even recognize that it's connected to a computer, asks for the USB cable :-\
Was worth a try.

Is there a way to do this inside of rooting??
I'd seen mention of it being done on xoom's with rooting but didn't look into it deeply so that was the reason for wording it that way. Really sucks that wifi explorer is a faster transfer method than plugging into usb.
use wifi explorer, available in the market. you can view the contents of your SD card in the browser of your computer, upload, download, change folders etc. Saves you the hassle of using a cable as well.

Using Astro file manager, there's a Samba share plugin. Create a share on your PC and you should be able to access it
I don't get it when i plug my phone to my pc i cannot see previews of the pictures(thumbnails) , videos or files i have on my phone, i have to copy them first to the computer in order to be able to preview them , any solution for this? :/

I'm not sure but it could be a setting on your PC. I noticed this while offering pictures from an iphone4 yesterday as well. But I have preview and thumbnails turned off.
yes clockcycle is right.
this is purely your pc, nothing to do with your phone. you need to enable the checkbox to preview photo's depending ony our version of windows. sometimes it's not enabled by default.

Previews are enabled , what my pc shows as thumbnails for my pictures is the logo of the windows gallery :/
Reasonably sure its because of the MTP protocol, the N4 is not mounted like a normal USB stick

Hmm there's big post about this issue on the phandroid forums, it seems its windows faul't , the window explorer doesn't show thumbnails in MTP mode, which is the only mode the nexus 4 connects to the pc since it has no sd card, so no solution AT ALL :crying:
I'm curious to see if on mac you can view the thumbnails , anyone here with a mac that can confirm it?

Try connecting the nexus 4 as a PTP
The usb options only show Media Device and Camera. When I had my Samsung Exhilarate it gave me the option to mount the phone so I could move files around, but this isn't letting me and I haven't found a way to do it yet.

Setting it to camera mode will allow it to be detected as a Storage device so you can then see the drive and move the files around.

Thank you greatly for this. I wasn't sure how it worked. The setup is a bit different than my other android phones I've had.

Scratch that, I still can't move or copy things.
Hi All. I completely hate the MTP and PTP feature. The connection is always laggy and I battle to transfer files across in any mode. Is there a way to get to UMC (Mass Storage) only? I have been trying to copy over a videos and it states 1 hour to copy a 700MB video. I mean WTF? I just re-installed W7 so it can't be the PC.
When I try to add files to it. The MTP just disappears and then the files stop transferring. This is very annoying.

I always use airdroid (from the play store) to transfer files...no cable involved, and it tends to go just as fast or faster in my experience. It's also really easy to use from any computer (no special software on the client is required, just a web browser)

OMG AirDroid is amazing. Thanks...
No way airdroid is faster than a usb3 connection. Anyone would like to compete? Let's test a 100mb file transfer and see who wins.

Alas, I made that statement without revealing that I have only USB2.0 ports on my computer...
Since ICS, Android has removed UMC mode from the phones. It's really annoying since I would love to mount the drives, but alas, haven't figured out a way to do it. Maybe ADB?

Can't wait for custom ROMS to change that lol
I've been looking around, but I have found nothing but out of date information.
I really do need Mass Storage mode as I store all my college work and run portable apps from my phone on my PC.
Is there any way to reenable this feature? Thank you.
No

Ah. I misunderstood. Never mind, then.
closest thing would be to use something like SAMBA Fileshare
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba&hl=en
(it might need a tweak to a file to work with jelly bean.... POSTED HERE)
This would allow you to connect to the phone via a network share. its \\YOURPHONE .... or \\YOURPHONEIP
MTP is a pain in the ass imo. However, if you use the latest version of Ubuntu or its derivatives it should detect automatically and let you copy and paste files normally similar the mass storage behavior. Samba is an alternative, but tend to be slow.
I found this QtADB manager that has been discontinued, but work pretty well to transfer files using ADB, tested working perfect on linux, but issues while on Windows, but could be my phone, YMMV: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683223
It will need the adb and aadt file which you can get from the Android SDK package.
The problem is, I don't want to copy files off, I want to directly edit them like I was with my Galaxy S2 and Mass Storage.

I'm aware. It's just unfortunate that mass storage is one of the biggest things I use my phone for. Guess I'll have to swap back to the common old garden memory stick.
