I'm not sure but it could be a setting on your PC. I noticed this while offering pictures from an iphone4 yesterday as well. But I have preview and thumbnails turned off.

yes clockcycle is right.
this is purely your pc, nothing to do with your phone. you need to enable the checkbox to preview photo's depending ony our version of windows. sometimes it's not enabled by default.

Previews are enabled , what my pc shows as thumbnails for my pictures is the logo of the windows gallery :/

Reasonably sure its because of the MTP protocol, the N4 is not mounted like a normal USB stick

Hmm there's big post about this issue on the phandroid forums, it seems its windows faul't , the window explorer doesn't show thumbnails in MTP mode, which is the only mode the nexus 4 connects to the pc since it has no sd card, so no solution AT ALL :crying:
I'm curious to see if on mac you can view the thumbnails , anyone here with a mac that can confirm it?

Try connecting the nexus 4 as a PTP

iPhoto not loading my pictures

Hey,
When I plug my phone into the Mac, it is recognized and iphoto opens up, but under the "<MT3GS>" there are no photos showing.
My nexus one was awesome, plug it in and all the photos show right up in iPhoto.
Anyone have any ideas. Or, anyone not having any problems at all with iPhoto and it just works fine out of the box?
this could work:
http://vowe.net/archives/010622.html
make a symlink to the camera folder
some how did not work for me (yet)
So the phone isnt detected as mass storage on macs then?

No. Ace42 said that the phone is detected as mass storage, but that iPhoto doesn't find any photos to import from the storage device.
iPhoto doesn't sync with Nexus S

This didn't work for me on my Nexus S either. Bummer. Has anyone managed to sync Nexus S with iPhoto?
EDIT: But this worked! Yay! http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/g9hbg/problem_iphoto_wont_autoimport_photos_from/

[Q] How do I connect my Nexus 4 to a Windows PC, so as to transfer my files ?

How do I connect my Nexus 4 to a Windows PC, so as to transfer my files ? I cant use LG PC Suite V, even though its a LG device ! So my question is it possible to manage my Nexxi with a pc suite, Like I used to do it with my previous android devices ? :cyclops:
This is my first Nexus device(which is by far the super awesome device i have ever had), so please dont mind if I am missing something very obvious.
Just use a USB cable and connect your N4 to your windows PC. You should be able to transfer files using window explorer.
As far as I know all the suites you are talking about are made by the manufacturers for phones running their own UI's, Sense, TouchWiz, etc. I use Windows Media Player to sync music, photos and videos with my N4. You can also just drag and drop files into it if need be. While WMP doesn't quite do all that a suite does, backup is one thing, it is sufficient for what I need to get done.
If both the pc and cell are connected to wireless use airdroid. Cant get any easier than that.

Definitely airdroid, it works like a charm.

Yes. I did that, but nothing came up i could not browse through the phone memory.. Although there was a eject nexus 4 in the right bottom bar ( like it comes when you connect a pen drive or an external hard disk), but i don't see nothing connected to browse in my computer.

Try installing the drivers from pda.net. They will allow you to transfers the files. You can also use - WMP, iTunes etc too.

If you do a search on pdanet, you'll see it's an app that has almost every freaking driver imaginable.
Did it finnaly ! I could connect it VIA AirDroid with USB tethering ON. Just like wireless connection, Airdroid supports connection via USB too.
Actually you should be able to just plug it in and browse the phone through windows explorer (kinda like a usb hard drive). Dont think air droid is necessary for usb.
Especially since you have the option to eject it from your pc i don't think its a driver issue.
I once had a similiar issue to yours and what i did was go into settings > storage > the menu button (the 3 vertical dots in the upper right) > usb computer connection > and check MTP. For some reason it was not checked.

Yes, but the actually problem, some time ago I had installed the ADB drivers, thinking that I had to install some driver to connect my device. Yesterday, Saw that this caused the problem and neither the windows media player nor the explorer could browser through the phone memory.
After uninstalling that driver for good, I could connect easily, although it shows as a media device and I cannot get to see the list of folders in explorer, hence I started searching for AirDroid using USB. And Voila !!
So let me get this straight... I just bought my Nexus 4. The last Android phone I had was a Galaxy Nexus, and I could simply open Windows Explorer, and drag n drop any file I pleased. Simple.
Now with this phone, I can't do that. For example, a zip file, keep getting the error "Cannot Copy Item". This is with MTP on. I haven't tried the cable that the phone came with, but would that really make a difference? I tried different folders too.
Am I missing something?
UPDATE: So I tried a new text file, and it worked... My zip file was 11mb. I'm guessing it only recognizes certain file types in MTP? If so, guess I'll have to use something like AirDroid
I can see most of the things that are on my phone from the desktop, but it seems like a lot of stuff is missing...
I checked in the connection settings, MTP is selected, and on my desktop I selected "Show hidden files". I can access the N4 from My Computer, and I see a lot of folders, music shows up fine. But for example I can't see web pages that I've saved using OffBrowser. From the phone I can use the X-Plore app to view the files I have in the phone's memory, and from there I can see that OffBroswer has saved over 250 MBs worth of web pages. But when I try to drag-and-drop them to the desktop, Windows Explorer tells me the OffBroswer has 1 byte of storage in use.
As I said, I made sure to show any hidden files, so why aren't all of the files showing up. Anyone have any idea?
EDIT:
Same with the Opera browser. I've been saving a handful of webpages using Opera Mobile and I wanted to copy them onto my desktop, but they don't seem to show up in Windows Explorer, I just see a lot of TMP files in the Opera folder.
Screw it. I just use Airdroid now. So easy and great features.

this might help : To connect nexus 4 to computer via usb:
plug in the usb , connect usb to phone . it will display the charging icon as battery will be charning. Go to settings -storage -on top right you will see 3 vertical “square dots” click it will say “usb computer connection” then it will give you two options a. MTP and PTP. Simply select MTP and you are good to go. It will now show nexus 4 as a usb drive on my computer.

I can't copy files onto my phone or my sd card.

The usb options only show Media Device and Camera. When I had my Samsung Exhilarate it gave me the option to mount the phone so I could move files around, but this isn't letting me and I haven't found a way to do it yet.

Setting it to camera mode will allow it to be detected as a Storage device so you can then see the drive and move the files around.

Only MTP and PTP Why no UMC?

Hi All. I completely hate the MTP and PTP feature. The connection is always laggy and I battle to transfer files across in any mode. Is there a way to get to UMC (Mass Storage) only? I have been trying to copy over a videos and it states 1 hour to copy a 700MB video. I mean WTF? I just re-installed W7 so it can't be the PC.
When I try to add files to it. The MTP just disappears and then the files stop transferring. This is very annoying.

I always use airdroid (from the play store) to transfer files...no cable involved, and it tends to go just as fast or faster in my experience. It's also really easy to use from any computer (no special software on the client is required, just a web browser)

No way airdroid is faster than a usb3 connection. Anyone would like to compete? Let's test a 100mb file transfer and see who wins.

Alas, I made that statement without revealing that I have only USB2.0 ports on my computer...
Since ICS, Android has removed UMC mode from the phones. It's really annoying since I would love to mount the drives, but alas, haven't figured out a way to do it. Maybe ADB?

Manage photos, music and other files in Nexus 6P?

After connection thiis phone with the usb cable it came with, looks like there is nothing I can do in the Nexus 6P folder (windows does recognize it), I can't see, create, or manage anything like I used to. Do I need to unlock or root this phone first?
Thanks.

Thank you so much! I was looking for this option under Settings --> Storage & USB, where I think it used to be, but couldn't find it.
One more question, how come I don't see the photos I took with the phone in the Pictures folder?
Edited: NVM, just realized that it's another folder.
Sigh, so stupid of me.
