So, I have decided to buy white X10 and I hope to sell this one soon. Now I want to backup all the things and settings, photos, phonebook etc. on my new phone. Can I do this: use My Backup Pro app and backup everything on SD card and then insert SD card in my new phone, install Astro and then My Backup Pro on this new handset and Restore everything ? Will I get everything just like on my black phone ?
And another thing, my black phone is not branded, white one is, what are the differences ? Will I have some stupid apps from T-Mobile or something ? If I debrand it, then I have like black non branded phone or it will have some traces ? Will that void warranty ?
Tnx for all answers
Anyone knows ?
I think My Backup backs up apps and data, but doesnt put the widgets/shortcuts back on the homescreens (wont be too much hassle to do it yourself!)
Your situation is similar to mine, I'm actually considering going from my white one to the black one!
I would be happy to make this swap with you if you are in Croatia ;-) I think that it should backup widgets also...havent tried yet...

Bought a 2nd hand Compact and was trying to back up my contacts to permanent storage in case I'm away and the battery dies. Checked all the boxes and all that happened is a load of contacts (hundreds) from obviously the previos owners backup spewed out and it took me like an hour to remove them all. This guy had contacts in every country in the damn world !
Is it possible to erase his contacts he has stored, obviously if I want to restore in the future I don't want his.
How can I make it save mine instead of restoring his ?

I think that when you turn permanent storage off and then back on, it overwrites the permanant storage contents with the current RAM contents.
If it works the same as on Himalaya you have to do more than just tigling the check-boxes:
Uncheck all boxes
Move the '#flashman.lnk' files (the # stands for A, C, N, T) from \windows\startup . Note that the name varies between devices/Windows versions, but should refer to 'flash' or 'permanent'. (need RESCO Explorer for this)
Soft reset
Delete the PerSaveBackup folder from 'Storage'
Move the '#flashman.lnk' files back to \windows\startup
Soft reset
Check all appropiate boxes
Youre done
Thanks for the help guys.
what did the trick?
Dunno, have no idea how to do either of these things.
I'd say get Sprite Backup. It's easy to use & backups\restores only your pim dara (& more).
I had a rom-upgrade & before it I used perm.save, tried it again after reading your post & can't find any old data. An upgrade probably wipes the data, take a good look at the rom-layout in the wiki, maybe it explains whether my theory is correct.
perm.save claimed that all data was removed after unchecking the boxes, difficult to find out without hard-reset, which I'm unwilling to do at the moment.

Permanent save works very good, and youll never miss a contact/apointment or whatever. It is a good addition to backups.
It is a pain in the ass when the storage gets corrupted (which happened to several people.
Hi everyone, apologies in advance for not being very tech savvy and for the dumb questions I'm bound to ask!
My Touch HD keeps freezing or just going extra extra slow and sometimes wont openn various things - then when I look at it half an hour later everythings open!
Anyhoo it's being sent off tomorrow under the warranty to be fixed. How do I make sure all my music, pictures, videos, contacts etc are all saved to the sim or memory before they get wiped?
My phone wont link via the USB to the laptop and my laptop doesn't have bluetooth (oldschool!)
Can someone please give me an idiots guide how to not lose all my stuff?!

Aside from contacts and their phone numbers, you can't really save anything else to the SIM as its capacity is extremely small. You'll have to get a program like PIM backup which will let you back everything up (contacts/texts/emails/music). Another way to do this is to download microsoft's myPhone (which is free) which will upload everything to a microsoft server and then you can download it all back to your phone. However if you have alot of large files (like ton of music) this will take a while so make sure you do it over wifi.
here's a link to MyPhone:

Have you tried a soft reset on the phone?
As said, Pim backup will do all you want, or get Sprite backup as well.
highly recomend PIM Backup
will back up will do everything you need but may be slow to backup your music and videos.
I would use total commander to search your my documents folder on the phone and copy across to the memory card.
Back up
Back Up - I use Sunnysoft Backup Manager (currently ver 4.0.0.2, build 07131)
This will back up any or all of your device based files together with any files on memory cards if you wish. I back up my phone to the resident SD card. Periodically I back up my SD card to my desktop.
The software works fine on the Touch HD. I used it after I had upgraded to the latest rom update. It must have saved me hours. It's a great comfort if something go wrong. The software keeps an executable file on the SD card, so you just need to run that to restore everything after a hard reset. Worth every penny.

Stef
i'm probably going to exchange my epic tomorrow for a different one. I know I'll have to reroot, but is there anyway to backup everything that is on there and just restore it?
I have titanium backup, but not sure if that will do it, I think I can just copy the folder onto my computer with all the apps backed up and then copy it back to the new phone?
or is there an easier way?

Thats the easiest way, titanium. I use the same backup between my nexus, hd2 and epic 4g. I just dont restore system data.
Copy your titanium backup folder to your computer and just copy it back to your new phone.

If you want restore to what you have now, no there is no other way.
titanium it will be then, that should be easy enough, especially if I just keep the sd card.
anything think it will be a problem to exchange if the phone is rooted? i'd like to just exchange tonight and really don't have the time to start figuring out how to unroot it. exchanging at rat shack if that makes any difference.

I returned about 4 rooted Palm Pre's to Sprint without a problem, FWIW.
Can one backup work across multiple phones? For example, if I do a full Titanium backup on my Epic, then take the SD card, put it into my Evo, and restore....will that work?
so back to this. I used titanium after exchanging my phone and it went okay except I lost my call history and text messages. is that normal for titanium? surely with people switching roms 5 times a day, there has to be a simple way to do this.
TMo's customer care was cooperative enough in promising to send a phone to replace my MT4g with washed-out screen, although they wanted $10 for shipping it.
It took a couple of weeks to beat my old 4g into submission so it now looks and works like my Nexus One, i.e., with temproot, Froyo launcher, Titanium Pro, Visionary, etc. These programs and associated data are backed up (.apk and data, as TP says) on my SD card.
How do I restore my new phone to the way my old phone was? At the least, it would seem you'd have to use Titanium Pro, but TP is on the SD card, not installed as an app.
Is there a way to run TP so everything comes back (i.e., the frozen programs still frozen, and programs like the launcher installed) the way it was? TP is such a great app I'm thinking it's my failing, not TP's that I don't know how to do this.
Hi guys! just received my s7 edge yesterday, and i already miss root..
so i'm gonna root it, but i need to get a backup first.
And here is my question; is there a backup program that backs up everything? and i mean everything, from my audio recordings to text and call logs, also my apps and homescreen layout with folders etc.
just like when you use smart switch to basicly clone your old phone to your new one.
Ok, i just realised that i could use smart switch to do this when i installed an SD card. im gonna let this stay here at the wall of shame, incase another n00b like me comes along. lol
