Do you have your finger/thumb over the proximity sensor while your trying to type something?...that would turnoff the touchscreen.
The proximity sensor is located at 2 o'clock position on the 'n' in the Sony Ericsson logo on the front face of the phone.

Hi guys,
During the call I’m setting off bunch of application by accident. The manual says it suppose to be a virtual protective shade over the buttons and only “keypad” and “End Call” should be accessible. But in fact anything I touch is working. What to use to disable all buttons during the call?
Thanks
P.S. installed apps:
Duttys task manager 2.1.1
Montecristoff HD2Tweaks
TC
Cookies home tab 1.7
chainfire 3d driver patch

I see the small holes/sensors left to the LED. What do they do? How do they block the keys?
on other hand maybe i disabled something in HD2Tweaks and it can be restored back?
Thanks
the proximity sensor will know when the phone is to your face during a call and turn the screen off. make a call and put ur finger over the sensor see if the screen turns off
sensors
One is light sensor to brighthen or dim screen, the other is proximity sensor to turn off screen during call, so you don't touch any with cheek,or ear.

There's a sensor thats suppose to turn your phone screen off when you put it close to your face. Do you have anything blocking the sensor next to the ear speaker? or maybe a cheap screen protector going over the sensor. I've also heard long hair can mess up the sensor if you don't push it behind your ear before putting the phone up to the ear.(Don't understand how that would effect it, though) Or did you change any settings that effect the proximity sensor?
I've never heard of a "virtual protection shade"... where did you read about that?

user manual page 58:
During a call
When a call is in progress, a shade covers the Phone dialer’s onscreen buttons to prevent accidental taps. Only the Keypad and End Call buttons are active.
To access the onscreen buttons, slide your finger down, starting from the top of the shade. Use these onscreen buttons to put a call on hold, dial another contact for a phone conference, enter notes about the conversation, and more.

Okay so u have the phone up to ur ear while the keypad showing. When u remove it away from ur ear it says "tap twice to unlock". What is the point of this? The screen is locked when up to ur ear and unlocks when away from ur ear.

My iguana prefers the Samsung Galaxy S. Bloody Samsung faniguana
It's a pain that it does it when using Bluetooth and the phone isn't near your face. When I call a company and get the automated press 1 2 3 etc having to double tap first before each selection is a huge pain.

Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of minor annoying features like this one with X10. Got used to them over time :-(.
Maybe, SE implemented this because the proximity sensor is not working like they wanted it to work. Frankly, if the proximity sensor does it job like it should, there is no need this extra step. The whole phone functionality of X10 is probably one of the worst I've seen among phones I used.
One other problem with X10 contacts is if you use large file size images for contact pictures, it doesn't down scale them I guess even for the small thumbnail images shown in contact list. The entire address book crawls to load. If you downscale the contact image file size manually and re-assign them, you can see the load time of contacts much faster.

no ill explain as ive tested this.
when the keyboard is down below ie hidden then the prximity sensor kicks in. when the keyboard is up ur less likely to have the phone up to the ear so it locks after a set time savinf the proximity sensor this actually makes it a feature not a flaw as calls centres can be navigated easily i e. u have to listen to 3 menus with butten presses in between you can press button and press earpeice to ear and it locks stopping you from pressing anymore buttons

ahhh... good to know. Still kinda annoying. I'd prefer the proximity sensor to take care of everything.
Still tested different NAND-Android Roms on my HD2 but got still a problem. If i make a phone call and the screen turns black while calling i press the endkey to end the phone call. But instead of turning on the device, the screen stays black and i need to pull the battery and restart the phone.
If i make a phone call and use the free speaking funktion, while the screen don't turn off, i got no problem when ending the phone call.
I don't know what the problem could be, but it seems, that the thing has to do with the sensor who turns the screen on and off. But i don't know if this is the problem and/or know how to fix this problem. Like i said, i tested different Android Roms formated the SD-Card, deleted cache and all the stuff, but nothing fixed this problem. :-(
28 Views and no one with this problem? :-(
There are 2 other threads discussing this issue already. Here is one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946012
Issue lies with the light/proximity sensor. Could be defective hardware. Could be incorrect sensor drivers. Could be dirty sensors. I have yet to take mine apart to check for dirt on sensors. Blowing into the led/earpiece opening seemed to help. I notice if it doesn't come back on I can hold a very bright light (ex: cigarette lighter) about an inch away and the screen comes on as long as the lighter is lit. Sometimes it stays on.
thanks for your answer. seems to be more things to test and maybe solve this problem. Thanks!
THANK YOU Agoattamer!
Your link helped me to solve the problem! I just cutted a little piece of my screen protector, where the proximity sensor is, and got no more freezes after the phone calls! The screen protector still got two holes for the light and proximity sensor, but this seemed not to be big enough. Anyway, thank you a lot for your post!

I also tried a a lot of different NAND ROM and I had also this problem and I can't use Android efficiently. Now I am using hyperdroid ROM ( first GBX now CM). With this ROM and sanity app (from market, with correct settings you can find with trying) I almost solve this problem. ( probability of 95 % I don't get this error)
hey guys! i found the solution goin through the market!
download an app called "Sanity" theres a free version in the regular android market.
go to the settings > general > check "Reverse Proximity" (This will give you some warning about not using it if you DONT have a buggy proximity sensor). Check it anyways. Then go back to preferences then click "Proximity" scroll down and uncheck Turn off screen and leave leave the Turn on screen checked. this will force your phone to stay on during calls so that it never has to go through the proximity phase of calls this no more black screens. Hope this was helpful ^_^

When you place the phone near your ear when you are calling someone the proximity sensor will turn off screen light,is this the case?
Hello, in my experience, this happens if you installed some skins that sometimes conflicts with other system programs.
And so it sometimes goes to block or crash when using the phone call, sometimes when it comes into operation on lookscreen.
To understand skin: skin various widgets, widgets CHT, taskbar, etc..
The advice I can give you is to do a hard reset if you can not do proxy conflict.
First i would like to thank you for your response.
The phone turns black immediately after push call button or push the contact button.
I already tried a hard reset.
I'm sorry: you did a soft reset or hard reset? very strange .... your rom is cooked or original stock?
You do not have any spare housing that protects the phone and could cover the sensor? stupid question. but it is very strange.
Problem is solved. The glass has been repaired and the repairman has forgotten to remove a strip that covered the sensor.
Thanks for your help
OK! sometimes it happens .....
There is a phone problem with CloudyG2 2.2 which is G3, I am having the problem of when I put the phone to my ear the whole screen turns off, how do I stop this, also the other problem is during the call I now have to swipe in order to use the number keypad, how do I disable this too, both of these are annoying as hell and I have looked into settings and nothing is there, is there an old LG G2 phone apk I can just install to replace this or is their a fix.....thanks in advance.....

Well when you put the phone to your ear during a call and the screen turns off, this is the proximity sensor working. This is not an issue or a problem, rather a feature of pretty much every smartphone.
I very rarely need to use the keypad during a call so I can't help you there I'm afraid.

that's not a problem - that's a feature on most devices... (proximity sensor that detects when the device is near the ear)
with a screen turned on - you'd probabbly press some buttons while in-call
with the screen turned off - you won't...
i think this feature can't be turned off - maybe some apps can control that (search google play for "proximity")

as i recall - the stock dialer always had the number keypad invisible when in call...
try some other dialer apps - maybe they behave differently...
Yes it's the proximity sensor, I will look for the stock dialer, I don't like the annoying slide to unlock when trying to use the number pad as well, that's a feature I just don't like, so I will look into other dialers and the stock dialer as well, thanks.

you got my post wrong - you DON'T need a stock dialer but some 3rd party one...
