Weird black screen problem - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

Hi folks,
any help with this is appreciated since I can't quite explain this problem to myself.
I have a HTC Touch Dual - last working rom was the WWE Insomnia release.
One day the screen suddenly went black - phone still functioning normally.
Hard resets appeared to solve nothing, the screen remained black.
At home I flashed the Original ROM back to the phone and screen worked again on reboot. Phone continued to work normal for some time.
After going to standby (screen turned off) the screen didn't turn back on again.
Also hard reset didn't work.
As for now, everytime I reflashed the phone with any rom (Original & Insomnia) the screen worked until a hard reset or standby mode.
Phone is running with HardSPL.
Any suggestions how to find reason for the black screen issue?
Google didn't help that much - only hint I found was reflashing the phone twice with the Original ROM which didn't help a lot...

Exactly same problem!! Insomnia ROM and strange screen behavior! Will try to restore original ROM.
Have anybody fixed it?

Oh, I have the same problem. Don't know if it's a hardware problem or software. I have unlocked and flashed many times. I also was thinking about a bad flash.

XDA2 not playing ball.

Hi all,
Did a search on this, but hoping to prompt some new info on this.
While using my XDA2, running the latest WM5 from TofC via Buzzdev.net, with Tomtom it froze. Nothing too unusual with that, but this time the usual remedy of soft resetting it left it stuck at the splash screen. Same thing happend after removing the battery for a short while. I left the battery in, with it stuck at the splash screen, and the device became quite warm (as though it was working overtime).
Afterwards, I tried removig the battery again and then hard resetting. A couple of times, I have go it to boot MOSTLY, but the backlight will not come on (yep, I have checked the settings) and there are no sounds. Also, when it goes into stand-by, it wouldn't switch back on again.
I have since tried reflashing it with the WM5 rom (stuck at splash screen again), and flashing with the official O2 rom / radio (still stuck at splash screen).
From what I have read, it might be a battery problem, but I have tried charging the battery fully (in the cradle, not in the PDA) and nothing.
The battery I am using is a replcement from Ebay, the original is with a friend so not available for another few days.
Any fresh ideas most welcome!
Well, didn't expect too many replies
But academic anyway, because the 'brick' is fixed!!! After leaving the battery out overnight (not for the first time, I hasten to add) the XDA2 has decided to boot
It now has an XDA2s version on WM2003 (just thought I'd try it). Pretty sure though the issue wasn't ROM related, because it had been freezing at the same point with this new ROM.
So, anyone with the same problem on their device should not give up hope!

[Fixed] Screen white with multicolored lines

Everything works fine except that the screen is white with jumbled colored lines. I had MyMobiler running and I could see the phone perfectly from it and use it. A soft/hard reset will not work and I tried flashing back to button rom with no luck.
This happened to me before but I flashed button rom and everything went back to normal. Then it happened again 2 weeks later and this time I decided to try stuff out and discovered that putting backlight to nothing then putting it back on fixed the problem. But this time, nothing seems to work.
Any ideas? Should I try the method posted in this post? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424553
Aye, I posted that, and it is the fix of choice around here for that problem. Do it and all should be fine again.
Ok I will try that in the morning but I didnt think it was hardware related since I managed to fix it by flashing the first time.
Well, it seems to be a tempormental problem. Some people can "slam" their keyboard shut and it will fix it for good, while others have to take their phone apart to get it back to normal.
Thank god! I successfully fixed my display by flashing the original cingular 8125 rom !!!!
Now I have regrets about slamming the keyboard/'gently' hitting the display poor phone.
Ok I spoke too soon.. after the flash was completed, it went back to the messy display.. Well I know now that it is not hardware related.
Update: I had my phone plugged to the PC with USB and had backlight constantly on.. 3 hours later, the screen came back to normal... Hmm?
I have found a permanent solution for this. I have noticed this problem occurs when my battery is very low and my phone turns off right when I switch the phone on.
So to solve this, if powering on phone didnt restore the screen, just press the reset button until the screen fixes itself. It has worked everytime my phone had those white and colored lines.

I've got the same problem after flashing the ROM. The Phone goes OF every time it goes in energy saving modus. So I turnes of the funktion (Backlight of after xxx sconds) don't know exacliy how it is called in english. Now the phone stays on, but of course now the battery power went down verry fast!
If I touch the Power Button which do the same (Energy saving modus) the phone goes OF as well. Sometimes it restarts emediatly some times not.
this is not the sollution for the problem, but I think it would be nice to know if we have the same problem.
i've had the same problem. First it looks like slide2unlock caused this problem. I never used this program, and my elf worked fine. After using slide2unlock the elf suddenly started to auto switch off..
Upgraded my rom to the latest TESS (lite) and changed pagepool back to 4 mb => no more auto off problems
MY Problem is fixed too
Hi,
In the meantime I've fixed this problem as well.
I had an ELF ROM running on an ELFin device. Thought that the model name would be the Model_ID. ... Well ... now I know better.
One ELFin is brocken now (don't do anything, not even powering up or so), but the second one is now working fine.

Touch hd screen not responding to touch or stylus
Touch hd screen not responding to touch or stylus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In early February I upgraded my Touch HD to 6.5 from 6.1 and if am right it was energy.blackstone.21891.leo_Max. It worked for about two week and and then one day I struggled to get a gps fix on my tomtom. The next day the screen just froze with no response of any touching or stylus.
Managed to put the original orange rom back on it but could not cariberate the screen due to its not responding. I sent the phone to HTC UK for repairs but they said due to my having used unauthorised software the motherboard needs to be replaced and they were asking me to pay 168 pounds so they could go ahead with the repairs. I got the HD2 on a new contract.
Still love the TOUCH HD and was wondering is there another way of breathing life into this thing. Responds well to install new roms but the screen continues to remain frozen
Hello.
I have same kind of Problem.
My HTC had broken Screen, I had it repaired.
After it came back the touchscreen worked OK. Than I flashed it with the ENERGY Blackstone ROM.
Flashing etc was OK. Device started again and came to the Point where you have to tip on the screen to do the SETUP. But that did not work. I tried Softreset. Hardreset but No change of Problem.
Send it back to the repairshop and after I recevied it again the Energy was still on it and working.
Since a new ENERGY rom was out, I flashed it again . Result, Same Error, NOT working. To make sure that the ENERGY-ROM wasn't the error, I reflashed it with the Original HTC ROM.
Also this one does not work. It also comes to the point where I need to tap to do the Setup. Nothing happes.
When I attach the Phone to PC with ACTIVESYNCH, the Synchronisation works OK.
Any Help Any Idea ??
Probably you need to replace digitizer(touch screen layer, not LCD) Look on ebay for a new one.

Damn, I have almost the same problem!
I have used Energy roms for a year, without any major problem. I have installed dec. 20. NRG rom, and today it is completely messed up my HD. No response on touching the screen or pressing any button. After a hard reset the touchscreen alignment was came up, and the touchscreen is working, but I can't align the screen, it starts over and over again... and thats all. I cant do anything else with it. I have reflashed stock rom and spl, still the same.

same with me here... I also have got an EnergyRom installed. For more then one day now I get no response from the touchscreen. Everything else seems to work properly, e.g. the popups which remind me appointments are there.
Exactly the same here!
I installed energy sense last week, phone worked fine for 4 days then i came to use it and it didnt respond to the touch screen, however tapping the screen would bring back on the backlight?
I hard resetted it and also flashed a new ROM on, still the same, I found that it was responding but taking up to 5 mins to respond, i.e if you tap the first calibration point, after about 3 minutes the point moves, however calibration never completes.
I think the phone is scrap.

screen problem

Hi there,
Just wanted to run this issue past you guys with my htc tattoo. Basically, sometimes my touch screen just doesn't respond to touch input at all, the phone still woks using the buttons but that's all. its random as to when it does it and it can go a week or so working fine.
I've tried re calibrating it (when its working) but the problem still comes back. I didn wonder if the screen was faulty, but its not all the time?
Its still on the original (orange)rom, ive never put an unofficial rom on it.
Could it be a loose connection inside the phone, ive no other screen issues.
I have reset the phone back to factory defaults before but this doesn't stop the issue from coming back
Any help/advice would be great
Regards, Chris
