I too have same problem, i am in Australia, I have Purchased Xperia 10, and there is no Android Market Feature/App....
Pls, does anyone know how this can be put onto my phone... I just bought this Outright... and it appears to be waste of money atm..
to all that dont have market, just follow the debranding guide found here: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=195467
be sure to download the proper files for your phone. in the OP's case, its the X10i Generic UK (R1FA016)
to all don't have market place on your x10 or x10i or x10a.... pls. do not de-brand your phone for up-coming upgrade in a few months, some country they have dedicated firmware and version as of now there is an alternative application so could "slideme.com".... lol @@
the reason why you bought your x10 that doesn't have MARKET PLACE its because Google don't have an agreement or licence to include with the package in your country due to so many reason!!!!
as i mention above the "application" is the only thing that you can enjoy your x10..
hope i could help you out form this problem!!
sorry for my bad English lol...

I think the equivalent of de-branding for X10 is like changing your region in Samsung Galaxy S (i.e. from XSS to XSG).
I bought SGS here Dubai and was disappointed that I only have SlideME but since I changed my phone region settings (there is a tutorial for this in the SGS-I900 dedicated forums here in XDA Developers), I have now the android market and now I am a download demon... So far no problems encountered... I have read about de-branding as I am trying to help a friend of mine get the Android Market for his X10...
Note: No need to root our SGS I900 to do this useful trick...

Not sue why you bumped a month old thread to tell us about Samsungs in the Xperia X10 forum.
Ok so did you get the Market app in the end? If so, then how? and Did it cause any problems?
Would appreciate your help.
Cheers
You need to flash your phone with another rom . Look in the development section . It is easy and wont take more than 15 minutes

That might sound like a stupid question ... amm but where is the Marketplace app ? Just bought a HTC Magic today (HTC branded 32a) but i just can't find the Marketplace application ? In the list of installed Programs is zero :-(
yep, android devices in Indonesia are not GMS phone (the one that came with Google apps, and market.) Luckily, you can root your phone using this method :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548096
however, some say this will VOID your warranty. Good luck!
Ohhhhh , is it like that ? Gee actually i wanted to avoid to root the Phone in advance of the the upcoming Sense UI update but well ... think i gotta risk this step. Thanks for now
Update: Thanks a lot, worked perfectly for me :-D
Hey.
I got my xperia x10i from Dubai about 3 days ago. I opened my device up, and to my surprise there was no Market. I searched about and found out that Dubai disallowed the Market app in their devices.
I'm upset at the stores for not informing me about this disadvantage. I would go buy my device from the UK or even Canada if I knew. They won't let me return my device even.
So anyways, I'm asking all you Android smarties if I can somehow make my device into a UK version or any version that includes the Market. I'm willing to root my device or lose all my data. I haven't made too much progress with the phone anyways.
I heard about rebranding the device but I don't fully understand what this means.
All help would be greatly appreciated
Just de-brand it to UK Generic and all will be well again. Search it using Google or start with xperiax10.net, there's an article there about de-branding. Mine did not come with the PlayNow Arena and Auto Internet was grayed out, so I de-brand it to UK Generic. Hope this helps...

Debrand....
follow this tutorial on how to de-brand
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=195467
on the first step use the UK generic firmware (R1FA016)
after you have you have completed all the steps
then you can update your phone to the latest firmware (R2BA026)with PC companion

I'll check both the tuts and tell you how it turns out. Thx.
You could use the market enabler app to get the market from any region....
you need root for it though...
is there a change we would have root soon as the Arc wil be released ?
otherwise i have to go for the SGS2
We won't know til we try it! Shouldn't think it would take long though..

That all depends on how locked down the Arc has been. The X10 still hasn't had the bootloader fully cracked yet.
locked bootloader?
will the arc have a locked bootloader?
i mo more will buy a device with a locked bootloader.
Yes, the Arc, Neo, Pro and Play come with a locked bootloader. Can't see why SE would unlock it.
thats silly though... In that case, a lot of android/root lovers wouldnt buy the phone simply because the bootloader is locked.
For instance, I do not even consider the atrix a choice for a future phone because of the locked bootloader, I wish they let you do what you wanted with your phone, because they can always say **** you if you violate the warranty

Many are going with the locked bootloader now, even Samsung ( though developers managed to unlock in a short time )
Plus, you'll be amazed by the speed of 2.3 OS and its functionality, so I don't think we'll need Custom ROMs and rooting ( keep in mind that most users here seek those because of the stock OS being unreliable and very slow ) talking about all devices prior to 2.3 OS
+1 that was the main reason i rooted in the end... Still on stock rom on my x10 but had optimised for performance. Won't both doing that if the arc runs well.. I like the ui a well as the physical design.. That's why I choose SE over htc/ others.

That is for sure a fact for me as well and as you mentioned only reason to go with SE. (Sony in General).
Rooting will let you do more tweaks as much as possible and unless you are into playing with your phone deep, you don't need it. Hopefully SE will do a better job in terms of support than what they did with X10 and X2 and X1.

But what I'm guessing is that you don't really need titanium backup if you aren't flashing roms...
One thing I really really want root for is wireless tethering

True, but I like using it to backup unwanted preloaded system apps etc. before removing/freezing them Already have a paid license from when I was screwing around with the ROM on my IS01, and it's a little easier than digging around in the folders for the right apks.
And yeah, wireless tethering is a big one. No idea how I forgot about it.

In 2.3.3 wireless and USB tethering is standard, no root is need but of course root is very useful in other situations.

It's not so much whether the Android version will support it, but more whether your particular carrier wants to support or allow it
Let's hope unbranded/unlocked devices have tethering then!

Well, here in Belgium we have completely unbranded and completely unlocked Androids, but because of a conflict of Youtube with SABAM (the Belgian music rights thing), Youtube access is blocked (no Youtube app) on all Belgian handsets. Weird things happen, you never know!

As far as I know, Sony Ericsson is the only vendor that has firmware specific for Belgium. On the X10 for example you can only get Youtube if you manually install the APK from somewhere else. (X10 = 2.1, so no Youtube from the market anyway)
At the press event the people from Sony Ericsson said you can just install Youtube from the market on 2.3 (I think). In any case, I just ordered the Dutch version, it comes with completely generic firmware, and faster updates. Belgium was always a few weeks behind.
Think this has gone a bit off topic, but in general the arc should be an easy one to root, since it can be purchased with an unlocked bootloader ect.

What if you have a phone with unlocked bootloader: it won't update: OTA bricks the phone, PC companion gives an error.
So not for users with a unlocked phone eh?

relock your bootloader and do the update or wait for the ftf file for the flashtool
I'm on world generic and also no update yet
No update on AU Generic Xperia Arc either.
If this is any similar to the X10 2.3.3 update we will have to wait 2-3 days before they start being released for download.
I wonder if this is on Android V2.3.4, kinda doubt it though as it would say otherwise.
how about root status as well? will we lose them?

I have and i haven't
It's not on EMMA yet for Nordic Generic...
Usually SE announces updates online a few days before they start appearing on the update servers... It's good to hear they're really working hard on the software though!
I really wonder what they mean with 'new themes' for the homescreen... Perhaps we get to replace the default blue in all the menus?
And stereo recording? How, the Arc and Neo only have one camera on the back?
And oh yeah, since this brings the features from the September lineup (Mini, Mini Pro and Ray) to our devices, I also expect we'll be seeing native CRT On/off animations!
This firmware might also be 2.3.4, but I'm not sure... It's coming soon in any case.
Maybe they can use both the mics ?
(Doesn't the camera use the mic for sound input?)
Stereo audio,have two microphone
Well Samsung have lost the plot now
I contacted them only to ask when if at all we were going to get the Google video chat and this is what they said
"Samsung UK Hi ******, we're sorry for the inconvenience caused. 2.3.4 is not available for the Galaxy S, and it is unlikely to become available. You may have the 2.3.4 update as it seems to have been leaked on the internet, however, this is not an official or authenticated update and will cause problems with the handset (like not being able to download certain apps), as well as voiding the warranty. The Google Video Chat is available with the official 2.3.4 update although again 2.3.4 is only available with the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1"
This is what there telling UK Users
Kies updated there phones and you wonder why you get noobs coming on when this is what there telling there customers
Heaven help us
well they are right these are the leaked version and i dnt agree with them tht some apps didnt install...custom roms are always better option in using too many apps.
Yeah they didn't say the firmwares are fake, just leaked.
Have to agree the customer service is pretty idiotic to say that there will unlikely to be 2.3.4 update for the Galaxy S. There are beta firmware being made with that build so obviously Samsung is planning on releasing it at one point unless they are wasting money developing a software they will never release for a laugh.

INSANEEEE. Yep! I an many others in the UK recieved 2.3.4 through Kies, i think i got it in August!!! How can they still claim to not have released it, atleast admit they have an issue with Kies....unless we are meant to be beta testers and contact them when we have issues?? Is it possible??
Well my local service centre has JVQ and it can from Samsung, and i have seen his official firmware list and its the last one, I should him your comments and he agree there support is naff, Its now spilling over to the SGS 2, You can now update via the phone no need for kies, No instruction on how to do this so you contact them and they say its never been possible or will it ever be possible over the Air, And has to be done through kies.
So He phoned Technical and its the First tier support were the problem is, Secound tear has heard something for the UK as a fix.
So he contacted his dealer support and there aware of what's being said and they said that JVQ is a official Rom
On face book Now there asking me if they should escalate this
What dumb person have they set on here ?????
So does this also mean 2.3.5 won't be under warranty?
JVT should become official because of this.
It should be time to do something about stupid patents.
