Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 XDA Wiki Page - XPERIA X10 General

Hi,
I've created a Wiki Page at XDA for our (almost) beloved phone.
Here's the link : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SonyEricssonXperiaX10
Please feel free to add some tips and/or tricks in this page with the EDIT button.
For the ROOT part, i suggest to list all the solutions that the devs could have and the result for each one.

Great idea!
I'm happy to see some positive stuff in all these whining and moaning in this (kind of unmoderated) forum.
It makes me happy, that there are some people that really like to do some work for the community.
I'd like to add some of my disassembly / spare part / repair device stuff if you guys like.
Unfortunately I've no clue how to do it, what is good and what not and so on. Never worked with a Wiki before, as I'm more the "handcraft" guy and less the Web 2.0 co-worker / lover...
Is there anybody with wiki experience, willing to give some helping hand / advice?
Unfortunately nobody helped in my Disassembly thread.
I know my gramma, phrasing and spelling is more than bad.
So I don't like to copy and paste it to an wiki...

hey McKebapp's, it would be great to have all the stuff from your thread on wiki, just click on the EDIT button and you can edit the whole text as well as add your own titles/subtitles etc...it's not that hard and i'm sure somebody will correct your spelling if necessary so don't worry, i'll check on you if you'd like

it was already written but with a display bug, thanks.

Someone might want to update the Wiki with information from the 1st page of Xperia X10 Rooting and Custom ROM Development.

Added a German review + edited "my" links a little...
Hope I didn't do it wrong

I added "Compass" in Connectivity...

- redirect to current wiki page added
- JIT install link added

More about 2.1 please ^_^, like LED did work only when the screen if off for example. Hope the wiki will become more of info. Great job.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

I edited the memory info. Specifically RAM info. It's 384MBs, not 256

It still show 287 MB at OS monitor app.

ur asking an awful lot from people. i can see however that you havent got the latest o2 update. go to http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html to update!
there is so much of this information on this forum that it isnt funny asking for it again.
I can see that you have only ever made 2 posts, so it would seem that your first forum is out of naivety rather than stupidity.
As such, here are some hints and a starting point for you. Please be aware, that there is quite a good search function if you take the time to look and can use the multiple fields to narrow down your search function.
You can also try the wiki ftp site if you just want some software and utilities to use. In the end though, you will find the best outcome and most stable device if you go and buy it.

Agreed, this has been posted a great many times, each trying to be the definitive post on all aspects of the Universal - something which I think is frankly impossible as no single post can cater for everything.
In the defence of somewhat overwhelmed newcomers, however, I do think it's time for x-d to be reorganised (how many times have we said this??) and broken down more specifically than just General, Upgrading and Accessories. There should also be beginners guides, for just this kind of thing.
@ brightming: the links provided above are a good starting point, read them all thoroughly!
Cheers
Ant
I've been (mostly) lurking here for a few months and I'd agree - it'd be fantastic to have 1) more specific/detailed forums under the Universal heading and 2) some well-written, clear guides for newcomers - particularly given the repetition and duplication of many subjects in different posts. An alternative place to have some good how-to type guides might be the wiki, especially considering that it appears to be underused at the moment. Any mods fancy tackling this?...

Hard-SPL for X2: Developer talk

Hi All,
It seems now that those guys who have developed HardSPL for the X1 are not going to get the X2. This leaves then no other options than to start creating the Hard-SPL ourselves.
Is there any open guides/sourceode etc available on any previous HardSPL:s? It can't be so difficult to hack this phone and change the essential parameters for getting in into the underlying filesystem...
If you know any links or direct discussions on how for example the X1-guys created their Hard-SPL, then please post that link here.
Thanks!

Yeah! Sounds good to me. Although developers do it for the challenge, sometimes getting them motivated by a bounty encourages them more! Just check x10, it has now been rooted and I hope one day our X2 will also be Hard SPL'ed. Got an x10 and an x2 so i guess i'm gonna play with x10 for now.

I am not sure if i sound a bit stupid, but since we know how to strip down X2 to bare Win 6.5.3, can somebody please "cook" (i mean perhaps assemble) usable CABs that would work on X2 and make the phone usable stable without the unnecessary SE craps? i guess that is a good general direction we would start before a genuine real SPL is available...?
itd be great if they could do it make an X2...

Sorry to bother you, but my spanish is nothing to talk about.. What's this thread about? Any specific message i should try to get translated?
Hi hertell.
I'm spanish and I'll translate you the post at HTCSPAIN.
The HARDSPL at the post it's for HTC models, not for SE Xperia, and it's so old, 2009.
If someone is working to make available HRDSPL in SE Xperia X2, I think that is a titanic work.
Thanks for your resume!
Again, if someone knows any docs or whatever technical info needed to get into winmo-devices, then please post such links here.
If i just find the needed docs that's needed for such tasks, then i'll try to create a hack for getting into the X2..
hi
In this web are new hardl slp for HTC JADE and windows mobile 6.5 i dont now if this program run in x2.
I'm sad ...

Guys and gals...
I've got a bricked X2, so things can't get any worse at present.
I took the advice which was displayed in another thread, and downloaded the Qualcomm QPST package.
x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/qualcomm/models/qpst/12051.html
I deleted the default comm ports in the QPST configuration tool, added both USB ports that were available, did the Volume Down + Power On keypress, connected the cable, and voila! The phone was recognised, and it was possible to browse through the phone using EFS Explorer. Using QPST Service Programming, I can view and edit a whole LOAD of stuff inside the phone. Wow.
I haven't dared change a single thing yet. I'm hoping someone can now contribute and we can begin to understand how to use this package to our advantage.

[Project] ---> THE Guide <---

hi everyone,
I made this thread to prepare for starting a new thread in the xperia x10 Forum, the thread will be called "THE Guide"
In Case you are wondering why i made a Project thread about it, that is the way i want that thread to be it can't be done by one member, So i need your help
WHY ?
i am tired of new threads people make about very old problem that were solved millions of times, every forum have one of these thread and we shall make this one the best one.
IDEA
it will include everything we can imagine,
My view is like this:
- 1st Post will be the Index, it will contain links to the different parts of the guide
- the next for example 2 pages, each post will be about a different topic, example:
--> Root Post will contain links to differnet rooting methods, FAQ, known issues, etc
--> ROM post, will contain links to ROMS - if any -, Dev in Progress, etc
i hope you get the idea..
WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:
- this thread will be always fresh and updated, and i can't make that alone, my time won't allow me to manage more than the index post and at most one other topic
- Anyone willing to join this epic Guide, write in this thread and tell me what topic you want to handle
- Any ideas about the topics are always welcome.
- you should have a decent amount of posts, etc.. ( i can't allow someone with 1 post to take part in this, sorry )
Posiible Topics that i came of till now:
- Branding/Debranding
- Rooting
- Market issues
- Battery problem
- themes, and related Howto's
- Dev tools, and related progress ( i think someone should arrange that for new Devs coming to help )
( those what came in my mind in just 2 mins )
BEWARE: THIS IS NOT THE GUIDE THREAD, AS SOON AS THERE ARE ENOUGH PEOPLE AND WE ARRANGE WHO WILL DO WHAT, I WILL CREATE THE THREAD.
so for now lets here what you guys think about it.

Good Idea. I just read PiLOT's post and I really do think we need to help people out that are as clueless as I was when I got my X10
I'll volunteer myself for getting the theme related stuff together. If nobody has already I'll get a list of the most important threads/how tos together.
Should I just post a list here and keep updating it?

New Android Website! Need Feedback! Please

Hi, I am working on a new site with some of my buds...
Since we all have HD2's lol we will start here. The plan for this site is to help you with your android hacking. Like I said we will start with the HD2 for right now but eventually expand a whole lot. We want to have Android latest news and phones, help the community out. Maybe have forums eventually for other android devices in the future. Who knows where this idea will take us, but we want to focus on helping out the community. In no way we will be competing with XDA, but for Newbies is not easy reading thru all these phorums; or they are just lazy lol. We currently have a writer, graphic designer and a Mod freak to start things off. We want to know what you guys think, feel free to discuss and overall: What would you like to see on the site?
The site shall be called WWW.ANDROID4LIFE.COM and it goes live real on 3-1-11
You can preview the site now! Here: http://www.wix.com/casademipadre777/android4life

Thank you!
Very good site. Fantastic for beginners. Layout is easy to see and format throughout is good. Continuity also good.
One thing I will mention is that the transition effects between pages may be a burden for some older legacy computers and people running a a poor connection. Perhaps having a feature to avoid this would be good.
Good work man

Thanks. I'm glad you like the concept, and you are right... Pure Html sites are better but they lack on data stability, which is why we are using more flash sites. Besides they are more simple and I am a flash freek lol. This site is more for our generation and you need a good internet connection jaja! But we do have a link to update your browser flash player, we hope that helps some people. I really appreciate your feedback and trust me your suggestion is kept
it appears like its a NAND flashing method you are building here
you should specify that, as we know the other method is via SDCard in Winmo 6.5
also you should highlight the importance of the very basic and foremost first step of all
flashing HSPL3 (2.08HSPL)
then, MAGLDR
then everything else follows.
just my polite suggestion, very nice website BTW

Thanks jigners, we are thinking of adding a seperate tab for the SD Method for those that follow. But you got it right we are Emphasizing the Nand method. We will talk about this in the Video Tutorials along with all these major important steps, thanks!
Asshhhh.
Oeh, ok i try start at first things. It will be hard for you to understand but i give my best.
Never ever dont think this way - i have new and good pc (laptop, tab or smartphone) and my friends have too. So i create website, fun yes.
Real life is other. 65% people use older pc-s. Even more, think if someone goes to this site with hd2 and winmo, what and how he then see this page. This ugly and today outstanding flash IS NOT good way make good website. I'm serious.
REMAKE IT NOW.
About design.
I liked it. Littlebit mottled but not hurt everyone.
Site visitors counter today also out. Just place it bottom and hide for itself only.
I recommend to you get better some php based cms and attach your design. Then your site will be gotten on fly. With hd2 winmo and 3G. As you want bring beginners to site.
And one hint more. Think again about site content and main idea. Why? Week ago i seen on HTC site HD2, today not.
I dont want claim or blame you. Just these opinions i got whe i looked to this site. I thinked itself many times that hd2 needs some special site for helping xda devs work better and not waste time for threads named like these examples just gotted at this forum: [Q]Help needed Please, problems, HELP!

I understood some and thanks, we will work on making a back up for those that use older pc's lol. Thanks for the tips too, the datat that flash sites produce is awesome. Looking good. I would change the background color to android green . +1 on a non-flash link site.

Thread Designing

This is starting as an idea, it is a subject to change depending on demands and evaluation from developers/users.
So, lately I've been seeing a lot of ROM threads with very bad grammar and lame designs that just make you want to leave the thread without even looking at what it's got to offer.
I was thinking of putting an end to this by designing threads for ROM developers so that the threads look sleek, cool and attractive. This would of course cost them nothing, rather than the time it would take me to design those threads.
Each design would probably take 2-3 days, depending on the requests (numbers and details of request).
Things I would need for the design:
Screenshots of the ROM
ROM name
ROM info
links to specific files
[*]Or, you could just lead me to your current thread, I'd take the info from there and transfer it to the new design.
This is what you'd get from me:
Better grammar in the thread
Better thread design
Overall feel of the thread
Better overview and placement of ROM sections (links, screenshots, information, changelog...)
Eventually more users of your ROM
Threads I've designed by now:
Alzbac's DonutHD
Just like you said, it is indeed very hard to read a very messy thread, and I always end up not founding what it is about, and where to get it.
This is a very good idea. Good luck.
good one man...
I'll ask you when i need for my rom

Nice Idea!
Hope a lot of developers that got problems with their english ask you to help them. Good Luck with your "project".
Someone read my mind.

I would however suggest that changes per version be shown in detail.
"detail as in... all changes."
Developers may be allowed however to with hold some rom superiority changes.
To allow the rom DEV to fairly claim some fame for his work unless he feels the requirement to share the details of his finding A.S.A.P.
Screen shots is a must have.
The page should use thumbnails to dump stress on XDA and other servers... and allow you to click on them for a full view. "unless pictures of rom are already quite small."
The page should better reflect the quality and effort of the rom..
Hell knows... i put effort into all my posts.
I don't quite understand...

Please don't get me wrong, but I've read your post like 4 times and I don't quite understand what you're trying to say. It must be because of the stress from school and lack of concetration.
Anyways, you said "changes per version be shown"... version of what? I don't design ROM's, I design threads, that make finding what you want in a specific thread easier. There are no versions in thread designs.
"Developers may be allowed however to with hold some rom superiority changes."
Developers can ask me to change anything they want after I've shown them a design of the thread, such as font type, font size, colour and stuff.
"Screen shots is a must have."
I could include this into my project, but the developers that asked me to design them a thread get the text codes for the design, which they just copy-paste to a Reply Box and just press Preview Post, from there developers can see how the thread would look like. If they like it, they just press Submit Reply and overwrite their previous thread text with mine.

Ummm... I don't know what is wrong..... is it me... or is it you... idk.
A almost good example of a ordered rom thread.

Wish I had thought of something like this! I agree some of the threads actually hurt my eyes to look at (sorry but it's the truth! ahah)

I know I was talking about the scattered layout and big pictures that don't actually work that appears on some of the threads.
Another good example of a good rom thread..
