New Android Website! Need Feedback! Please - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi, I am working on a new site with some of my buds...
Since we all have HD2's lol we will start here. The plan for this site is to help you with your android hacking. Like I said we will start with the HD2 for right now but eventually expand a whole lot. We want to have Android latest news and phones, help the community out. Maybe have forums eventually for other android devices in the future. Who knows where this idea will take us, but we want to focus on helping out the community. In no way we will be competing with XDA, but for Newbies is not easy reading thru all these phorums; or they are just lazy lol. We currently have a writer, graphic designer and a Mod freak to start things off. We want to know what you guys think, feel free to discuss and overall: What would you like to see on the site?
The site shall be called WWW.ANDROID4LIFE.COM and it goes live real on 3-1-11
You can preview the site now! Here: http://www.wix.com/casademipadre777/android4life
Leave comments/questions/concerns/feedback/ ++++++
Thank you!

Very good site. Fantastic for beginners. Layout is easy to see and format throughout is good. Continuity also good.
One thing I will mention is that the transition effects between pages may be a burden for some older legacy computers and people running a a poor connection. Perhaps having a feature to avoid this would be good.
Good work man

Thanks. I'm glad you like the concept, and you are right... Pure Html sites are better but they lack on data stability, which is why we are using more flash sites. Besides they are more simple and I am a flash freek lol. This site is more for our generation and you need a good internet connection jaja! But we do have a link to update your browser flash player, we hope that helps some people. I really appreciate your feedback and trust me your suggestion is kept

it appears like its a NAND flashing method you are building here
you should specify that, as we know the other method is via SDCard in Winmo 6.5
also you should highlight the importance of the very basic and foremost first step of all
flashing HSPL3 (2.08HSPL)
then, MAGLDR
then everything else follows.
just my polite suggestion, very nice website BTW

Thanks jigners, we are thinking of adding a seperate tab for the SD Method for those that follow. But you got it right we are Emphasizing the Nand method. We will talk about this in the Video Tutorials along with all these major important steps, thanks!

Asshhhh.
Oeh, ok i try start at first things. It will be hard for you to understand but i give my best.
Never ever dont think this way - i have new and good pc (laptop, tab or smartphone) and my friends have too. So i create website, fun yes.
Real life is other. 65% people use older pc-s. Even more, think if someone goes to this site with hd2 and winmo, what and how he then see this page. This ugly and today outstanding flash IS NOT good way make good website. I'm serious.
REMAKE IT NOW.
About design.
I liked it. Littlebit mottled but not hurt everyone.
Site visitors counter today also out. Just place it bottom and hide for itself only.
I recommend to you get better some php based cms and attach your design. Then your site will be gotten on fly. With hd2 winmo and 3G. As you want bring beginners to site.
And one hint more. Think again about site content and main idea. Why? Week ago i seen on HTC site HD2, today not.
I dont want claim or blame you. Just these opinions i got whe i looked to this site. I thinked itself many times that hd2 needs some special site for helping xda devs work better and not waste time for threads named like these examples just gotted at this forum: [Q]Help needed Please, problems, HELP!

I understood some and thanks, we will work on making a back up for those that use older pc's lol. Thanks for the tips too, the datat that flash sites produce is awesome. The "visitor counter" feature that you mentioned is built in on the url as soon as you click it, the features of flash sites. We certantly want this to help people and make it easier to see, thanks... I hope we don't become like that site that you mentioned, that just disapeared lol...

We have added a tab that in the future will have the G2 hacks!

In "Download" page you put only NAND builds. I think, links to some modern SD builds also must be present on download page.

Looking good. I would change the background color to android green . +1 on a non-flash link site.

serious effort for WM6 on iphone

serious effort for WM6 on iphone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hello all!
i was recently gifted an first generation iphone, i hacked it and unlocked it and played around with it. i was not very impressed, the hardware is awsome but the software, i find to be lacking.
at any rate it has sat in a desk drawer for a month or 2 and then i read about that faked video with wm6 on an iphone. i thought to my self why not give it a try? its not like i will be able to buy that touch hd from htc that i wanted...
so i have been doing some research and it looks like there is an arm processor in this thing, which gives me hope. i plan to use a few open source utilities such as ibooter to get an environment on this thing for wm6.
i am wondering what advice people can give me, who have hacked newer versions of WM onto an older device, what to research, what to expect or useful utilities; i have little experience with the bowels of WM.
this will be my first attempt at something this grandiose, but i have surmounted greater challenges in the past. i am not asking for help, however i am more than willing to work with anyone else who is interested.
please keep non-constructive criticisms to yourself, if people didn't try things every time there was doubt we would still be living in caves.
thanks
-ash
Good luck! I've got to say the iPhone would be WAY more appealing to me if it ran Windows Mobile. If I were you I'd maybe try and contact some of the ROM cookers in the older device threads like the Blue Angel forum.

I saw somewhere that a Norwegian hacker did it some time ago, it is quite sad, but it is sexy to see WM running on wide screen

I just saw the video...that was cool. Looks like you got your answer there ashrond.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that video is fake, look at the very begining he manages to turn his i-phone on by just tapping on the screen. sadly it's propably just some kind of slideshow presentatio. too bad would have been nice.
Doh!!!!!
Stupid Fake Video!
Threads like this makes me sad, users making threads on this subject to be taken serious and fail to provide any type of commitment to achieve any goal to this subject. what im trying to say simply is... let the god damn roms chefs make threads like this and not the "omg i need WM6, on a toyphone"... i wanted wm6 so i got a phone with wm6 on it. not a god damn phone with ipod crap on it.

ps thats the video that i was talking about being fake and giving me the idea to attempt this.
Well if ure serious about this, u could get a piece of advice from users such xplode, mamaich, bepe, tuatara and many many others (speaking as Blue Angel user).
Also, u might rather look in some iphone hacking forum. Furthermore, mind that iphone is quite a closed platform, so it doesnt have any documentation, besides some rev-eng done.
Anyway, there is little chance u will achieve this, and the amount work what is in front of you is more than u might expect. No man could do it alone, in one life.
Srsly, only way to do it, is to steal iphone blueprints form apple, and u will......
w8, didnt u say ur name is Bond?
People may flame you because they are 'die hard' WM fans, and anti-mac or w/e, but I must say that I wish you the best! If somebody were to do this, I would probably end up getting an iPhone. The only thing is, I don't like not having a QWERTY keyboard.
I most likely will have a WM phone for the remainder of my life / cell phone using (unless something really awesome comes out), but I love how smooth and 'error free' the iPhone is. It's just not for me w/ the current OS because you can't easily expand the iPhone as easily as you can a WM phone.
Dear dip****,
Clearly your lack of understanding about the real related undertaking about what you asking is beyond your grasp. its like hopping on a BBS and asking for some guidance on how to do heart surgery, sounds simple... open the chest cavity and do some poking. its not as simple as just droping an app, if it were that simple as to dropping ibooter... then all the 100x groups would have already done it and taken credit for it. i really wish scrubs like you never used the internet, clearly your terrible propaganda on trying to make people believe you would be elite enough to carry such under taking. as i reflect...
ROFL "ibooter to get an environment on this thing for wm6." while you are at it, try using a bios disk to start up the MAC OS on your computer...
you have no ****ing clue what your even up against... at least i am a hardware hacker. what the **** have you done other then post. "i has a dream for WM6 on ipod" thread? Ill learn to read if you learn to stop being a dip****.

Unless it absolutely cannot be done and it is proven that it cannot be done, why not let people keep on trying. Let them learn what they need to learn to give it a valid attempt. It would be a really intersting to see done; however, I fear that there may be some legal iussues if you are flashing WM to an IPhone - You will have to ensure that you are using a legal registered copy of WM wouldn't you? When we are flashing our current devices we already have WM on them so it is kind of a grey area since we already paid for WM however, putting WM on an IPhone which never had WM????? I don't know.
I say keep searching for your answers though until you can prove or find proof that it cannot be done. GOOD LUCK with your efforts. It may be an incredibly difficult thing to do, or who knows - Maybe it won't be that difficult if you have some kind of breakthrough.
I really can't stand it when people start assuming that they know other people and their "Qualifications" when they don't know a thing about them really. None of us really know anything about each other except for what we may publish in our profiles. Gotta have some faith in people sometimes and stop making assumptions.
Closed this thread.
This is getting out of hand!
The ONLY way to port WM6 is by writing new drivers for the iPhone.
It's not impossible, but it is a monstrous task.
A new thread is only allowed when serious steps are taken regarding (re)writing the drivers.
(So do some investigating on platform-builder!)

Programs you use

Hey everyone - now that many people are getting the HD (through the post, shop, stealing, whatever) I was wondering what programs that people are using.
If possible, please also state what the app does. eg;
Coreplayer - multiple-format video player.
Also, please post in Beards' topic with version numbers, screen resolutions, etc!

That tells us what programs work, not what the programs do and why people use them.

Jon,
All you need do is go to the topic and ask......
Yes, the topic does list software titles working/not working but there's nothing wrong is posting anything specific about a specified program.
In fact I personally would recommend it.... The more information available is so much better.

This all stems from the fact software is a total mess on windows mobile - even looking at the biggest sites like clickgamer and handandgo none of them have support for the HD yet. As soon as microsoft bring out their software store the better - that's one thing apple got very very right with the iphone.

At the moment it's a total minefield in ascertaining what does and does not work.

There, edited the first post. People can post in both topics. I think it would be interesting to see how many people, for example, used LunarTilt or that iPhone GUI - Beards, with your topic, if someone sees Coreplayer 2.5, they may not bother to list any other interesting apps they use.
Thanks for the link Acelister.
If I find anything of interst applicable for this topic I'll pass it back on to you.

one major problem and handicap windows mobile will have over the iphone.
The mobile osx is only one device (iphone), so it is a lot easier for developers to create and optimise software for the device, as for wm the developers have to think about the many different devices, thus full optimisation isnt really possible, that is why not all programs will run on all devices.
cor blimey - didn't mean to start anything off here, sorry!
The thread of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442663 is fantastic, and very much appreciated.
If I ever catch up with you guys who have been playing with WM for years, and come across an unlisted app that works, please be assured that I will add to it
However - as a noob, short of Googling each and every one of them to find out what they do (ok, some are pretty obvious!), I have no idea which fall into the categories of "kinda vital" through to "dead useful if you want to do something dead specific".
What I was really hoping for in this thread (and I guess supersquash in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446128 and Philo25 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445543) was a sort of 'starter for 10'.
Looks like between the various posts we're getting there though, so MANY thanks to everyone
Well I've never really gone out of my way to install anything on my Touch Elf, so this was pretty new to me too. I've been getting the hang of it though.
I've installed:
Advanced Config (changes various hidden options),
Capsure (screen capture utility),
Coreplayer (video player),
Klaxon (alarm),
Total commander (better than File Manager),
SPB Mobile Shell (makes the Today screen look completely different),
iFonz (makes the Today screen look like the iPhone).
Those are all easily found using Google.
Nice one Sir - good to see there's a few of us in the same boat!
sounds like a good starter list - now I just need to start Googling where to get these from...
LOL - wife's gonna love me for the next few weeks...
I'd best start earning some brownie points fast before the HD actually arrives

I'm a new member with Questions about my HD2

Well, it's more than just questions.
I have the HD2 and I really enjoy it. Think it's a great piece of hardware. WM6.5 gets the job done for the most part, but I can understand some of the concerns with the OS. It's good to hear that you guys are already working on WM7 and the port to this phone!
Truth is, I put my coin in google's corner, so I'm hoping that Android finds its way into the HD2 via T Mobile.
I'm a bit tech savy, been involved with computer animation and can build computers as well. I thought I ask about the learning curve when it comes to development on PDA's such as mine. With the drop of Android, I flirted with the idea of learning code.
Is Android Linux based?
You guys hear anything about Android getting a port to this phone? I've done the google search and can only find the sprint version of HD2 with Android installed. That does nothing for TMobile customers.
I read up a bit on XDA and they appear legit. My concern is code being used for identity theft. Anyone have bad experiences with XDA and the software that is released here for share? Does the software under go some sort of QA before it's provided for download?
I have no problem with donations, trust is what earns my donations...fair enough, right?
Ultimately, I really like this phone and look forward to further enhancing it...I hear XDA is the place to be!
Thanks guys/gals.
FAQ's and sticky threads are your friend as is google.
Try reading abit, get a feel for the site.. Then ask..
Yes Winmo7 is being ported to the touch HD, though at the moment it's sluggish due to lack of graphical acceleration (and not really something i"m excited by since it doesn't have copy and paste and no multitasking. IMHO it's really more like an iphone/toy meant for none-techy people).
I don't expect an official update/ROM for the HD2 with android to ever be released by htc/tmobile. However, I would be surprised if one wasn't ported by xda from other devices (like nexus/evo 4g).
Yes, android is unix based. (develepment done in java (for upper stuff) and C (for lower stuff)).
Anything you download and install from xda you do so at your own risk. However, I would argue that the risk is minimal (almost none existent) as long as you follow directions and read posts. The only thing that can brick your phone is a failed radio/SPL update/change. Anything else can be cured by a hard reset.
(and what kable said)
As unfriendly as my reply may seem, for a "tech savvy" guy you asked several questions which would have been abundantly answered if you properly used the search tools of the forum, or if you simply browsed through the most active threads

Thick skin...you grouches don't faze me
I've been through the site a bit, what can I say, life outside of the computer caught up and I got a little impatient!
I'm still reading through the forum. Have yet to find an answer to this question.
If I install Android on my HD2 (US), something goes wrong...will I be able to do a hard reset, or reinstall WM6.5?
I really think Android would benefit more out of this hardware. It seems as if everything Unix based always requires less resources and gets the job done!
I also would like to know how I can uninstall these game demos that are eating up space? Will this be a registry edit?
I feel as if Android would FLY on this device. WM6.5 is getting the job done, but it's to late for Microsoft with me. I've used Linux for some time and I just think it's better. Huge supporter of Linux!

oh, no grouches intended (and the "I have a life" excuse is old )
There's no way to install Android on the HD2, currently, that's why you couldn't find on these forums how to uninstall it from the hd2
Game demos were not included in my stock rom, if you're using a customized rom from a carrier, then either you find and delete the relevant files, if that's even possible, or you flash a clean custom rom from the rom dev forums which includes onyl the necessary software... but then again, I know all this info because I found it on the forums

Look at you, browsing through forums and stuff. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you.
Thanks for the info. I do have a custom ROM from TMOUS. Has games like guitar hero, prince of persia...more bloated ware. I estimate about 30 mbps of used space.

If they allow you to uninstall the games this is how you would go about it:
Go to the settings tab in Sense -> menu(lower right corner) -> all settings -> system -> remove programs.
Now the other option would be to flash your current rom to something faster and less bloated. T-Mobile US Rom Development Forum
I definitely recommend you read the Stickies before going about flashing your phone. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Would suck if you brick your new HD2 just because you didn't! This is what these forums are for despite what some members might claim.
As for your other questions yes Android is Unix based and is probably going to be available for the HD2 sometime in the future(don't ask when). There's already a dual boot app so when Android becomes available switching between the two operating systems should be a breeze.
Welcome to the forums and enjoy your new phone!
Hi,
A bit irrrelevant to reply here, but I did not any other place. Have been following this forum for quite sometime. Been around with windows mobile app development for sometime. But what really interest me is when people from this forum tweaks Rom image or port to other harware. Here things look quite easy. Is it really easy? I saw one single person tweaking a ROM image and porting to different hardware?
Hope I have not offended anyone.

If they allow you to uninstall the games this is how you would go about it:
Go to the settings tab in Sense -> menu(lower right corner) -> all settings -> system -> remove programs.
Now the other option would be to flash your current rom to something faster and less bloated.

Thanks. And no, it only allows me to uninstall apps I've installed after the initial setup. I've been through system files and the sorts and I can only find icons and other "blah" that's not the actual install directory. I show all the hidden files and still, can't find it.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Android. Don't need the dual boot. Just a solid port with solid drivers.
Sorry everyone for the irrelevant post again.
I was hoping that someone will reply saying - "porting ROM is not a big deal, this is how you do it"

Epic fail.
one thing that has been alittle pain is how the albums are viewed. i created an album for videos, yet when i view I can't have a name of the file visable, just a thumbnail. that doesn't work well at all. works fine with pictures cuz what you see is what you. videos start with a black screen; becomes a guessing game. am i missing something?

anddroid on HD2. is it Possaoble?

I had my hd2 for 2 months and i love it. But, im getting very disappointed that it's lacking in apps and community support unlike the andriod and iphone os. I see poplur apps that are available for android and iphone but not wm. i am starting to wish i never got the hd2 and really wish i knew about the evo thats coming out soon.
on top of that i see the phone on ebay has really dropped in price to about £270 ($411)
so is it possible to put android on hd2?
Wow
Before you get blasted for making a post and not searching let me give you some advice, Search! There are a LOT of threads about Android on HD2, it's not there yet but it is being worked on. Really, type Android in the search bar and you will see all the threads asking the same thing, good luck

Your luck i just dont have the energy today

If you used the search functions (like most people) you would find your answer.
If you did this simple thing you would find that at this time, its not yet possible, HTC have the best group of developers on it but are having some trouble with the porting or something.
I'm just a few days away from being able to use my HD2 as a micro-oven

I bet your cooked ROMs will taste delightful!
Off: I succeeded in using my HD2 as a condom yesterday! Took me ages to port every bit of information...
On: Let's assume you haven't read the forum rules, thus you wouldn't know about the built in Search function. There`s Google. Why not Google for something (such as "android on hd2")? After all, it`s much easier to type and to read than typing a long post on a board where you need an account and where you need to wait for others to answer your question...
At least he searched the price of the HD2 on ebay...
i bet you guyz are unfriendly , help him if not *********** ,......,
anyway its still under development and needs some time i can say its 40 % to its full

It also really surprised me to see the price of HD2 drop down so quickly. Maybe mostly because not so many people can get on well with HD2, which is the best phone I've ever bought.
Easy on the flaming guys. Im sure he understands now. For all u know, u might just drive someone away from xda with negative thoughts......where as this is one of the most helpful community.
Like yourself I'm a new HD2 owner. I can understand why you might think there's a lack of apps for our device, when devices like the iPhone have 160,000+ apps. However I've found four different GPS nav apps out there (Igo, CoPilot, TomTom and Garmin), an app to make a flashlight out of your camera LEDs, a registry editor, a voice-dialler, a metal detector, a decent file explorer, a media player etc etc etc. The question needs to be asked, how many media players / file explorers / gps apps do you need on your device? For me, one of each is more than enough. Many of the iPhone apps are just double-ups of the same functionality.
After getting my phone I spent the next week on XDA searching for apps, themes, tweaks and games, trying them out and working out what works and what doesnt.
My HD2 is now running and looking mint, and I've got more games than I know what to do with. As the others in this thread have already pointed out, you do need to take the time and use the search function.
As for support, you couldn't be more wrong - it was the emmense wealth of knowledge of XDA-developers that gave me the confidence to buy the HD2. It will take you time to find the info you're looking for in these forums, but the answers are there, and you'll end up with a superior phone to the iPhone if you're prepared to give it a chance.
Drop me an email on [email protected] if you'd like to know where to find the bits you're after.
Not only he did not serch .. but hes speling sux too. !
This is one of the funniest Android response threads that I've read lmao. At least the repsonses were good natured and not hateful like some other threads have been. And I hope the OP didn't get scared away, he should think of it as his initiation. And Im sure a lot of Senior users had at least one noobie moment in the beginning.
When I had my Shadow/Juno and started modding my first post was "where is the windows folder"

i hate to correct you but if you refer to an old question, please provide the answer with it,
thanx

ROM for particular needs.

Hi all.
First, biggest respect and thanks to everyone for spending their time and putting their input in this source of information. I know, that my question can make some people irritated and trigger some flame and negative response. I have read silly questions like “which rom is the best” and smth and understand this... I have gone through number of threads and hundreds of posts, searched but did not find answer in questions concerning me and maybe some other people. I’m using my phone not just for fun but for business as well, so I have no time to do it and keep it as testing platform... I’m sorry for this, and I think I could help developers with donation instead of testing various roms and posting of mine experience here. So, I’m just asking for useful advice, pisstakers and people having nothing good too say, thanks but maybe u could just not flood up this thread. Ok, let’s go...
Can you tell me your opinion about the NAND rom which would suit these needs best. I'm searching for ROM with the best productivity and stability. Saying productivity I mean flawless synchronization with MS outlook contacts and calendar (necessary) and preferably tasks as well at first... And stability and battery drain, also as many features as possible working as bluetooth, tethering, email, etc, etc..
As we know synchronization with MS outlook is weakest side of android yet, although some handset manufacturers making their software to resolve this issue. This is seems not most important thing for most people here, because after searching it looks there is something like white spot on the map about his.
I have my Dell Streak on android froyio 2.2 as my first android learning thing, before I was winmo user... I really like android as better and more perspective OS comparing with dying winmo, so I would like to make my HD2 android which is my business phone more... When I reflashed Dell Streak with froyio 2.2 I lost sync ability with outlook. With help of this forum I installed Deja Office which resolved sync problems.
And now, having read many posts I think I would like to go for gingerbread version, but there is nothing mentioned about synch with ms outlook even there is said that USB SD card mounting-unmounting is not working properly... Deja Office works this way by mounting-unmounting SD volume during synch, so it may not work with gingerbread...Should I go for another one rom? Which one? btw HTC HD 2 with 512 MB (non T-Mobile)
I don’t know, give me some info please and then I will help with donation to developer which rom I will find best for me. Sorry again for trying to get it ready from you instead of testing myself every rom here, but as I said, everybody can make it’s own different input in this board.
Thanks

I agree, but no need to call anyone a retard.
In hopes to add something to this thread other than uselessness, if your looking for something simple and great on battery life then give tytungs gingerbread ROM a shot. Most Sense ROM's are not the best on battery but they aren't terrible on battery either. Anyways, good luck on finding the ROM for you.

Thank you very much motoman. This is the first at least more positive and constructive response... But mine biggest issue is the best synchronising with MS outlook. And I posted this jjust because after reading lots of posts and threads I find almost no information about this.

You sir have a great mentality. I should follow your example and go rob a bank so I can get millions of dollars.
Jokes aside.
Try a sense rom, I find they have all your professional needs built in.
Tethering will not work on any android build, for all of them you have to download a separate app for it to work.
I don't see why a gingerbread build. What siginificant advantages does it have over Froyo?
Since you have a 512 HD2, get a squashed sense rom.
Also, dude please don't under rate our devs by implying they are simply people here to make a profit. They're not gold diggers, atleast in my opinion.

I will consider this, thanks. Although I really like android freedom in apps and in generally after trying it, but if it won't get what I need out from this why not...
Next person to use the word "retard" will receive a nice ban....if you have nothing helpful to say, then don't post anything.

Yes calling someone that isn't very nice.
Edit: Hope Q&A helps you. I couldn't really tell you any one rom for ms outlook cause I don't use it but like motoman said tytungs rom might help. I think cmylxgo has great battery life Imho.
Edit 2: hyperdroidgbx might be another good rom for you to try out.
