PHX Metro ROOTER

I'm so incredibly frustrated with being unable to get my phone past the loop stage of the rooting that I am now reaching out to anyone local in the metro phoenix area that HAS ROOTED their slide and would be willing to help me root mine.
Payment can be arranged.
i would love to help man, i have done 3 of my own and have 1 non rooted for the pending update... i would do it for u in a heartbeat but im in oregon. when eugene and i first started tooling with this method, he had some issues as well as i did so we know its not the most friendly root we ever seen.... i dont use the loop method. that was created for the incredible as an option and implemented in the slide process after i got root. i did a manual loop that seems alot easier to me but have had mixed reactions. i highly doubt ur willing to let that thing outta ur sight so i cant say send it to me, but if u want me to try and walk u through my original method to get adb in recovery add me on gtalk ([email protected]) or send me a PM. im willing to help as much as i can... CR
Edit:nevermind. Thought about it... drank another beer, realized the update.zip Sig problem.
I know this might sound dumb.
What about a phone call, and SSH access to your computer???

[q] noob tube to root or not to root

Hey all,
Have some extra time today and i'm thinking about rooting my hero...
I'm not as tech savvy as the crowd that runs in these circles, nor do I have the experience or knowledge to do anything except ask for help, which is why i'm apprehensive to begin with...like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim.
I've been scanning this pool for about a week though and there seems to be some very cool things, primarily tethering and tweaks that can get a guy more than 4 hours of batt life.
Any comments out there fer a guy like me? Or am I just wasting your time and mine? Any of you suggest the best ROM for someone not looking for a hassle? How about tether?
BTW...I'm not a total leech, I would be willing to help with a donation if the **** works.
Thanks guys, many of you are incredible in this sandbox that you play in.
You should totally root; it gives you MAJOR speed improvements and such. Cyanogenmod 6 is also very nice and smooth . You get to really customize your hero, to the exact way you'd like it! If for some reason you don't like it, just RUU back (google it, hehe)
Hoped this helped you a bit!
Oh, edit:
CM6 has tethering built in.

Go for the root..then the fun really begins..
2.1 or 2.2...you will have to figure out what you want..
I went 2.2 and don't miss any of the sense stuff, but since I am rooted..I can always change back if I wanted to. Go take a look at all of the cool screen shots of what folks have been doing..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584379 That should ease you feet into the pool..it did mine..
Good Luck

Noob question

So since mytouch was updated to 2.2.1 is it worth rotting still?
My old mytouch was in pretty bad condition so i never decided to root it... Well it fell in a big puddle of water so im filed a insurance claim and will have my new one Monday. Seeing as it wont be in such beat up condition do you think its worth rooting?
What are some of the benefits from gaining root? Not much of a phone hacking guy lol.
Know my way around a computer very well just i do not know what kind of benefits you will gain once ur root your phone.
I'v seen many links on how to root it not sure which one will be the best as most of them seem a bit old. Not sure if i will get another original mytouch or one with the 3.5mm jack
Not much of a reading guy are you either? It would really only take you 5min to either search here or google benifits of rooting, reasons to root etc....
But, if you cant do that, Id stay away from trying to root yoru phone because you will probably just end up bricking it and blaming it on a hard working developer

Amazing!...now what?

I recently purchased a brand new htc G2 and it is amazing. I can see why people develop for it; the potential coming from this thing is absolutely phenomenal.
I know what I want to do to this phone but I don't know where to go to and who and what to read up on. Cyanogen mod came up so much and I read up on a lot of his stuff but all seemed so complicated due to me just starting to figure out all this stuff.
I would love to know where to start out with this thing so that my g2 would be the best g2 for me. Any recommendations as to what to do to it, read up on or easiest way to understand rooting and how to do it?
Also I was thinking about what widgets and wallpapers u guys can suggest for convenience use. It would be much appreciated
Thank you

This was the easiest method, and the one I used to root my phone.

Welcome to the fold and prepare to be impressed with your new phone.
Read, read, and read.
And when you think you got it? Read again. Rooting is fantastic, but can get hairy. So make sure you are 100% comfortable. But have fun unlocking the full potential of your phone!

I read before buying it. I still am reading.
From my permarooted overclocked HTC G2 with cyanogen 7 nightly via XDA app
I'm completely satisfied as it is, mostly cuz I've never held a genius fone before. I have been reading intently about rooting but have never been...with it, if u know what I mean. It is a hard concept but hopefully that link u sent me is good. Also. Can u guys recommend cool widgets and apps?

"Top free" and "top paid" sections in the market are good places to start
I rooted a few days ago and used the process at theunlockr.com it was pretty easy to follow the instructions cause there was also video to go along with them. Probably took about an hour to do and was well worth it. Check it out.

Pretty much use this and then download ROM manager, search Cyanagonmod 7, and you're good to go. You'll learn from there.

Uhmm, you're gonna build an auto-root for the Xoom?!
I'm the proud owner of a rooted Droid running UD7, and have rooted friends' Droids, too. But STILL, I read the instruction in the root Xoom "how-to" in the dev forum, and I can't for the life of me figure it out enough to have any confidence what so ever while trying it!
-It's the same thing as when root came out for the Droid; there's the "know wtf it all means" crowd getting pelted with redundant Qs from us "can't figure it out" guys!
-So what's the usual donation for this?
I'd probably use one instead of ADB.
alright, so who wants to test it out?
I'd love it. Then I wouldn't my settings and apps.
Mike
I'd love to try it as well

Just got my wifi Xoom today, so yeah, definitely interested!
im just used to saying "Phone" from modding so many phones.. -__-
lol bare with me..
Does it wipe data and unlock the radio? I'd like to try it but wondering what unlocking would do to my Verizon account and I've installed and setup a lot on this thing and I'm having trouble locating a good pre-root backup app.

Just curious, do you have a xoom to test it on ??
Honestly, I'm afraid to go first.
I would assume this is for Xoom 3G and not Wifi only?
Someone point me towards a good backup program for unrooted Xooms so I can backup all my apps and configs and I'll go first
keep in mind that the wifi and 3g xooms appear to be different when it comes to rooting...
I hope you can get this to work for the Wifi version. I never learned to use SDK and adb commands. Used Unrevoked for my Dinc.

Its not a bad thing to learn ;-) and its really not that difficult to use adb.. people are just so damn lazy in this day and age.. its like "what I have to type something?!?! I can't just click something?" Lol god you younger people would have flipped if all you had was dos when you were a kid like me. Hell back then everything was on 5 1/4 floppy disks Lol
I'm taking classes (I'm 35) and the professor asked the class if anyone remembered before there was an internet.. 3 people raised their hands.. lol so if people now a days can't remember when there was no internet its almost impossible to think people know what it was like before windows, when everything was command based.. me I'd much rather type I to a prompt then click a button
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Gosh, thanks for that.
I do remember DOS. I also remember when my school got the new TRS80s during my sophomore year. I remember learning BASIC.
I also remember having to sell my prized posession, a beautiful Fender bass, to pay my rent because my landscaping job wasn't paying me well enough. Thank God I found the part time job shoveling **** at that horse farm. It wasn't so bad because it's cool at night.
Nuttin' like shovelin' **** for five hours after a 10 hour day baking in the sunshine smashing your finger all to hell building rock walls.
What I DON'T seem to remember are any times when I had a spare thousand bucks to set fire to.
Now from all that you might gather that I'm just some dumb ass laborer with no need to even HAVE a Xoom, let alone root the thing, but I'm not. I've hacked my Canon cameras, my K1m, my Droid, and now I want to take my Xoom to its limits.
What I DON'T wanna do is turn it into a friggin paperwieght for my desk (...yes, years later I now work at a desk).
I agree with you that there are a lot of lazy folks these days, and being 8 years your senior, I've witnessed this regression more so than yourself. However, I don't think "lazy" is nearly as accurate as "fearful" is for the true description of folks here looking for a sure-fire way to root with the least amount of possibility of catastophic failure.
Sorry for the rant, but this has always been an issue for me from guys that share your perspective on this.
