I'm so incredibly frustrated with being unable to get my phone past the loop stage of the rooting that I am now reaching out to anyone local in the metro phoenix area that HAS ROOTED their slide and would be willing to help me root mine.
Payment can be arranged.
i would love to help man, i have done 3 of my own and have 1 non rooted for the pending update... i would do it for u in a heartbeat but im in oregon. when eugene and i first started tooling with this method, he had some issues as well as i did so we know its not the most friendly root we ever seen.... i dont use the loop method. that was created for the incredible as an option and implemented in the slide process after i got root. i did a manual loop that seems alot easier to me but have had mixed reactions. i highly doubt ur willing to let that thing outta ur sight so i cant say send it to me, but if u want me to try and walk u through my original method to get adb in recovery add me on gtalk ([email protected]) or send me a PM. im willing to help as much as i can... CR
Edit:nevermind. Thought about it... drank another beer, realized the update.zip Sig problem.
I know this might sound dumb.
What about a phone call, and SSH access to your computer???

Just wanted to put this out there, this is an idea space
Couple ideas we may get going:
* Someone leaks a working Engineering / Test Build
* Find a leak in the HTC Sync software (it has to use root to do the internet sharing)
What's been tried:
* Writing to /cache or /data/local
* Mounting system as rw lol
* Anything and everything with Fastboot
* A few other things that I can't think of right now
Has anyone tried flashing the engineering leak via gold card method? My guess is... our best bet is the internet sharing. The question is how to exploit it...
Personally, I gonna try via htc sync. I already tried fastboot with no luck too. I'm not as savy as you guys but may be dumb luck will be on my side today.
Why does that internet sharing have to use root? pdanet and easytether dont?

Well I havent even figured out how to get it to share the internet. Sync works but no internet sharing yet. May be I can try something in adb... thta is a good point. I used to use pdanet all the time before root on my G1. Hmmm.... I guess we'll have to see. Im gonna keep trying. Maybe Wes might have better luck. Im not giving up. I need a good android phone w/ kb. Not returning yet...
I believe the tmobile champions slide had a test build on it prior to slides launch,at least the guy at my tmobile store said his phone was running beta a week prior to launch, unfortunatly can't find any dumps.he was talking some crazy stuff about his friend already having a patch to oc the cpu to 800mhz.

That sounds about right. Oh god, champions slide?! Does that mean there are two different types of boards? This might complicate things a bit. I dispise when manufactors make two different types of boards for the same phone model. This is G3 and G4 all over again in the wizard subforums. I hate HTC sometimes, lol!
Don't worry sino8r, a champion is just the t-mobile term for a member of the marketing team that gets early access to a model to train the retail associates. They got a slide just like the to-market one, but it had a beta build of Eclair w/sense etc.
Not crazy 12 different boards for one phone.... At least I don't think that's the case.

I'm curious of this myself. I'll try it, F it, I'll send back if bricked. Where can I get the leaked build?
Its a no go on the gold card boys. Was loading for a while, then checking for a while, then right back to boatloader with no options to flash. This is based off of this leak.
EDIT: If there is another image to try, i will, just let me know.
Anyone try the method being used to root the Incredible?
This may sound silly, I haven't had the chance to really sit down and mess with stuff yet. However, with the adb shell, and the eclipse ide, is there anyway to make a mock version or virtual machine out of the slide, and then blast the hell out of it without fear of bricking?
In talks with hykuro he thinks the unrevoked method should work on all unpatched phones.

Tried the unrevoked method, with 6 shells spamming adb, and rebooting for 30mins no go.

god I wish he'd help a bit. He knows his stuff. we need to offer him and Paul some donations or something.
I am willing to donate some cash to the cause.
If anyone is willing to handle the pool, I'd throw $10 at it.

And i have a hot $20.... C'mon, if we all get on this it would be worth their while.
I got some chedda on it.
Yeah, I'd be in for $20. If we get root on this thing I'm going to be thrilled. I wish I could do some of the work, but I'm a complete n00b with development, so I'd not be much help.
But I'm good for some money.
I definitely have another $20 on it if someone will get root.

Uhmm, you're gonna build an auto-root for the Xoom?!
I'm the proud owner of a rooted Droid running UD7, and have rooted friends' Droids, too. But STILL, I read the instruction in the root Xoom "how-to" in the dev forum, and I can't for the life of me figure it out enough to have any confidence what so ever while trying it!
-It's the same thing as when root came out for the Droid; there's the "know wtf it all means" crowd getting pelted with redundant Qs from us "can't figure it out" guys!
-So what's the usual donation for this?
I'd probably use one instead of ADB.
alright, so who wants to test it out?
I'd love it. Then I wouldn't my settings and apps.
Mike
I'd love to try it as well

Just got my wifi Xoom today, so yeah, definitely interested!
im just used to saying "Phone" from modding so many phones.. -__-
lol bare with me..
Does it wipe data and unlock the radio? I'd like to try it but wondering what unlocking would do to my Verizon account and I've installed and setup a lot on this thing and I'm having trouble locating a good pre-root backup app.

Just curious, do you have a xoom to test it on ??
Honestly, I'm afraid to go first.
I would assume this is for Xoom 3G and not Wifi only?
Someone point me towards a good backup program for unrooted Xooms so I can backup all my apps and configs and I'll go first
keep in mind that the wifi and 3g xooms appear to be different when it comes to rooting...
I hope you can get this to work for the Wifi version. I never learned to use SDK and adb commands. Used Unrevoked for my Dinc.

Its not a bad thing to learn ;-) and its really not that difficult to use adb.. people are just so damn lazy in this day and age.. its like "what I have to type something?!?! I can't just click something?" Lol god you younger people would have flipped if all you had was dos when you were a kid like me. Hell back then everything was on 5 1/4 floppy disks Lol
I'm taking classes (I'm 35) and the professor asked the class if anyone remembered before there was an internet.. 3 people raised their hands.. lol so if people now a days can't remember when there was no internet its almost impossible to think people know what it was like before windows, when everything was command based.. me I'd much rather type I to a prompt then click a button

Gosh, thanks for that.
I do remember DOS. I also remember when my school got the new TRS80s during my sophomore year. I remember learning BASIC.
I also remember having to sell my prized posession, a beautiful Fender bass, to pay my rent because my landscaping job wasn't paying me well enough. Thank God I found the part time job shoveling **** at that horse farm. It wasn't so bad because it's cool at night.
Nuttin' like shovelin' **** for five hours after a 10 hour day baking in the sunshine smashing your finger all to hell building rock walls.
What I DON'T seem to remember are any times when I had a spare thousand bucks to set fire to.
Now from all that you might gather that I'm just some dumb ass laborer with no need to even HAVE a Xoom, let alone root the thing, but I'm not. I've hacked my Canon cameras, my K1m, my Droid, and now I want to take my Xoom to its limits.
What I DON'T wanna do is turn it into a friggin paperwieght for my desk (...yes, years later I now work at a desk).
I agree with you that there are a lot of lazy folks these days, and being 8 years your senior, I've witnessed this regression more so than yourself. However, I don't think "lazy" is nearly as accurate as "fearful" is for the true description of folks here looking for a sure-fire way to root with the least amount of possibility of catastophic failure.
Sorry for the rant, but this has always been an issue for me from guys that share your perspective on this.
Buying my vibrant on Monday. Am not new to flashing however its going to be with new hardware all around. Pretty sure the root process will be a breeze. I'm familiar with Mac but this will be the first time using it for modding so any tips for that would be appreciated. Know about TT backup got it covered. Need to know will CM7 due in the ROM department for little tweaks like led notifications. Know I can check the changlog but come on guys were all pals right. Any noob/news flashes I might need to know other than that much appreciated.

First off make sure your getting a vibrant 3g, not a 4g. The 4g has minimal development support and the roms will not work vice versa.
You said your familiar with a Mac? Doesn't that mean you own one? If so then no ODIN for you, which is the software you need to put your phone back to stock... So go pick up a PC.... Jeez people and Macs these days... jankkkkk.
Further, CM7 is pretty good, it's stable for me and a whole slew of people..
Here is my link on a guide on how to put CM7 on the vibrant, assuming you know how to at least root and use an android phone minimally, doing everything shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes max.

Root vs tethering
Howdy all If you want Tethering but are afraid of losing your warranty Tmobile and HTC released an update for the myTouch 3G Slide.
It allows Mobile Hotspot and USB Tether and WIFI Calling. Cool Eh?
It wont let me post the link cause I havent posted enough yet ha ha.
