Empty ROM - HD2 General

would it be possible to have a rom based on t-mobile US BUT without any programs in it. so just the OS n sense only? so it's gonna be fully customizable..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628948
download it
load into it your base rom (2.13 for instance)
untick the progs you dont want from the ext section
build and flash it
done! Take you about half an hour to an hour.

wow....
thanks.... if i use it is there an option to modify stuffs in it? for example.... boot screen, themes n stuffs? i mean will i get like full access to modify it?

not point and click, no, theres nothing available like that, but yes you can add all your tweaks and such directly by editing the files directly.
have a play, you don't have to flash it, just have a look around the folders and you will see everything that is on your phone will be there so you can for example replace all the icons with your own.
best way is to have a look.

Is A New Android Sense ROM coming out Tomorrow?

gamesquare dot co dot uk/desire.htm
has listed that a new v5 update is coming on the 21st of July that has a bunch of fixes. But there is no way to download it . anyone have any idea where I can get a ROM that i can use daily. PREFERABLY stock 2.1 or 2.2 but whatever is stable and ready for daily use will do. Thank you all for your answers ahead of time. REALLY want to get rid of my iPhone and get an HD2
I have read something that there is an Energy Droid ROM that NRGZ28 dropped but cant find it or his directions. There is way too many posts and threads here to find things sometimes.

Just scroll down. The link is in the V4 section. It says "download"...
Well I should have asked, are the UK dl and the twitter Dl links just SD run roms or do they fully take over the hd2 and run alone wiping winmo? I'm not interested in dual boot. serves no purpose in my opinion.
None wipe WinMO at this point. The twitter links are generally patches for developers or anyone who wants to experiment with the version theyve downloaded. Best you can do at this point is donate to the developers suport, time, and money and they will be done soon.

If anybody would bother reading, what NRGZ28 has posted, or the readme in the download ..
From Readme By NRGZ28
This package is a combination of a minimal WM ROM made by me (NRGZ28) and the latest "Desire" V4 Android build for the HD2 made by Cotulla! More info can be found here http://gamesquare.co.uk/desire.html
In order to run this on your HD2, you have to copy THREE files to the root folder of a storage card and insert it in the device. YOU CANNOT RUN THIS WITHOUT A STORAGE CARD. If the OS detect no storage card, it will shut down automatically. Now...
Copy "data.img","rootfs.img" and "system.sqsh" found in the 7z archive, to the ROOT of your storage card.
These files require about 400 MBytes, so make sure you have at least that much available on the card. A class 4 or Class 6 card is recommended for best performance.
If you find that you don't like this ROM and want to get back to your regular Windows Mobile ROM, turn the phone off (press the End key inside Android or simply pull the battery) and hold the "Volume Down" key on the side of the phone, as you're turning it on with the red power key. It will bring you to the multi colored bootloader screen, where you can plug in your cable and flash your favorite ROM.
1. Sugggestions
- Choose the HTC Sense interface on startup when you're asked what you want to run. It runs better.
- Go to Settings / Wireless & Networks / Mobile Networks / Access Point Names and push the "windows" key on the device to get the menu to pop out. Here you can add the access point for your provider. For example, it's "wap.voicestream.com" for TMobile USA. You can look this up easily on XDA. This is a required step to get DATA services in Android.
- The "windows" key is your menu key in android.
Enjoy and be sure to thank Cotulla for his hard work on this !!

Ya thats all I could find, what you just posted.
Don't expect to see a stable daily use ROM any time soon. Try looking around at the other devices that have Android ported for the last year. Do they have a flashable ROM ? Nope........! Don't expect one for the HD2 anytime soon. If you want Droid as an every day OS go get an Android phone. That's really your only solution.
Does the new Desire build have to have the newest zImage also?
Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to connect your phone to your PC in Desire v5. You don't get the "Mount phone" option in the notification area.
Also, native camera app doesn't work, as it forces you to use the optical trackball to take a pic, but HD2 doesn't have optical trackpad. CameraMagic works fine though.

Ditto. I can't seem to get to gamesquare's website either...
internet not working.....
how do i get the internet and my voice calls to work properly.....I have android up and working, just having those 2 issues
Here we go. I DL'ed the zip, and unzipped it. I do not see a ROM to install? I was under the impression that this would install a basic ROM + Everything needed to run Android (except I have to copy the 3 files to the SD). Does it not. Do I have to install a basic ROM myself first, and if so, how do I then make this Android work on boot?
Anyone? Maybe fast help? (I'm leaving work soon and wanted to do it before)...

Making a Gingerbread NAND ROM for HD2

Ok, I'm loving Gingerbread, but m-deejay has been including Cyanogenmod in his recent builds, which I don't want.
I'm REALLY keen to work on my own Gingerbread build...but need pointers on the steps I need to take.
I want to use a clean custom Nexus One Gingerbread build, such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885784
Then I'll have to replace the Nexus drivers and stuff with the HD2 ones...this is where the problem starts...how do I know which files are needed for HD2 specifically?
And then I need to add/remove apps etc to customise it?
I don't want anyone to hold my hand, just to at least point me in the right direction, as finding this information seems to be very difficult, unlike Windows Mobile cooking, which has lots of good tutorials...even though I'd expect that to be the other way around
I taught myself WM cooking & dev, but this is a whole new ballgame to me....
Appreciate any help I can get...
I'll happily donate a few $ to anyone who can help me get a stock build going...
No one able to shed ANY light? Give me ANY pointers?
Like I said, I'm willing to donate $ if I get help to get a ROM built...
Good pointers!!!
Have you tried with this tutorial?
SEE THIS!!!
This is the best step by step guide, and there is everything you need to port/make good working ROM for LEO.

Yea I saw that, thanks...only problem is that it's an old build, and it's miui.
Where do I find the latest drivers etc? And how is a NAND build different? How do I package up a NAND ROM?
I was thinking the very same thing but when I started looking into it I got put off by the complexity and the time it would take.
Have you thought about just modding MDj's ROM, stripping it back to bare ginger and replacing the bits we dont want, this might be easier that building one from scratch.
Yea, it's a possibility...but I won't learn as much doing it that way...and I'd rather try to create my own than use someone else's hard work as a base, if you know what I mean.
I have time, and am willing to learn as much as I need to...I just need some pointers...there are plenty Android HD2 chefs now, surely one of them is willing to help out
It's really not that difficult. I didn't really like the CM mod either, so created my own stock rom. I'm now at the point where I got it all working. I don't mind to give you a helping hand if you really are interested.
I'd love to see this too!

Hey,
yes I've VERY interested...I'm hoping to get a stock-ish one together with my own little touches...maybe release one if I learn enough about it.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated...
Even to start with, a list of the basics...ie get ROM dump, extract xyz, do this...anything at all...
I just got back from a swim at the beach to relax, intending to come back and try to figure it out on my own with what help I can get from that page linked above...but if you have managed to get one together, thats even better
This might be of some use for windows users (I've successfully tried extracting MDJ's Gingerbread system.img with it).
http://android.modaco.com/content/z...-boot-recovery-system-userdata-kitchen-ready/
yea extracting is easy...but I would prefer to use a clean build to start from, rather than m-deejays...trying it using the guide in the link above with the Nexus S dump...having to use some donor files from m-deejays build though...still trying to get my head around it all
Well I gave it a quick try using the above guide, and it gives "NAND Kernel Open Fail".
I used m-deejays kernel, and put all the relevant files into the correct directories before making the system.img, and i put initrd.gz and zimage into boot.img, so I dont know what I did wrong...?
You don't use system.img on nand. You need to create a yaffs.img. Which I've never done before. I've only made builds the sd way, not nand. Maybe all you have to do is rename the .img after you create it. You should jump on irc, room #htc-linux-chat. You would get your answer in like 5 secs;p
NAND ROMs do use system.img, have a look in any NAND ROM, you'll see system.img, boot.img and the flash files.
Yaffs is the filesystem...I created the img files with the "mkyaffs2image" command.
(As per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897940)
I've made all of these but get the damn kernel error...it can't be difficult, lots of devs have released ROMS...surely someone is willing to help?
I'd rather not go into irc, as thats the dev channel isnt it? Dont want to be a noob popping in asking hwo to cook Android for the HD2
i think what would be a cracking idea is if someone were to create 3 "standard" kitchens for anyone to download and start modding with.
kitchen 1) desire / desire HD with NO mods
kitchen 2) Froyo / gingerbread with NO mods
kitchen 3) Froyo / gingerbread with Cyanogen included
they should just be 100% stock but able to build a fully working rom. This way everyone can start to learn, and its always easier with a complete kitchen and just as educational - moreso as you get to see the correct layout for files / directories and all the correct tooling is already in place.
I will add to davids "donation" pot if someone were to make these available, whatever david is willing to donate and i will add another $20 (US) or £15
Whether they be Windows or Linux based kitchen does not matter to me, but i believe that android being open source these resources should be made available
G
Your right, not thinking clearly from all the jack daniels. You do need yaffs tools to mess around with the system.img though...#htc-linux is the dev channel. #htc-linux-chat is where you go to ask questions. Devs don't even go in that channel. Just chefs fire the most part. That's where everyone goes to learn how to build.

Yea, something like that would be handy...but even to start with, I'd just love to know the basic processes needed to get a basic Android build running on the HD2, without having to rely on someone elses current build.
I tried the link above, and it did sort of help understand a little of whats going on...but this stupid kernel error is preventing me from knowing how my test build works/or doesnt work...
I mean I had too use m-deejays gingerbread dump to get some of the driver files etc from...but where does he get them from? Thats the stuff I dont know...
It's obviously not overly difficult as there are so many devs pumping out HD2 ROMs...would just love one of them to share the secrets
Cash - not sure ... depends on how much help I get, but I'm willing to donate along the lines of US$20 or so...

Is it possible that the img files need to be created as ext4 rather than yaffs? I know gingerbread runs on the ext4 system (where froyo ran on yaffs2) but I'm not sure how this relates to building the rom.
Nah, don't think so...not accroding to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897940
Ive tried a few more times but am still getting the kernel error...so I cant even test if my build works or not as it wont even boot...so very frustrating...
Lets break it down........
1st
Here's a brief intro I did a few days ago read it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897940&page=2
The above goes for any .img used with DAF, they are yaffs2 images.
2nd
The sensible option for a clean build would be an existing stock gingerbread rom on a sister device. AdamG just happens to make the cleanest Desire roms around. I've had my eyes on this build for a minute, check it out and see if this what your looking for. Oxygen v2.0-RC6
3rd
I've been able to unyaffs disect, reassemble and get some 'customized' roms running. They flash, boot, & work great.....but I lose root permissions. lol
I was acutally doing this with the 1.6 NAND rom of MDJ that came as a single.img
That particular file was just system.img & boot.img yaffs2'd together. After I disected it I was able to unyaffs the 2 images and edit/modify change kernels, etc. etc. The only problem I have run into is the root issue.
Conclusion:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be glad to help out any way I can in porting a ROM worthy of our devce
Any serious inquries can be directed to my inbox for private discussion on gtalk .
I'm no dev and am in no way claiming to be. I do have some findings and that's why I'm offering my help. Cheers

[IDEA]Custom ROM Apps

Hello,
I am a software/web developer. Lately I had an idea to make an interface for easy CWM Rom Modifications. Basically like online rom editor.
The program flow is simple.
1. You upload zip rom from your computer, link or choose one from server.
2. You modify basic rom features. Possible functions (some):
add/remove/replace apps
custom launchers
build.prop editor
add/remove/replace fixes/updates
3. Once done you can download, get qr code, share, upload to rapidshare, megaupload, etc
I can make such thing in a week and ready to use. Questions is, would anyone use it?
Personally I can find it useful for me because i switch roms daily and i prefer launcherpro instead of stock, custom wallapepers, etc etc. So instead of installing each rom and modifying it locally you could do it with few clicks from your browser, even possibly from phone itself.
But once again, does that sound something that you would find useful?

It's a great idea dude! I'm a web designer/dev too. Anyway love the idea, this will open up the possibilities of trying new roms every time.
I'd too use it.
It's the idea, I was dreaming of.
Best of luck !
HECK YES
oh boy yes totally yes.
this type of app would help immensly to any1 who wishes to barebone there favourite rom.
help us in keeping our cwm smaller ie 5/150/10 etc.
mod roms to our taste.
cut out fonts we dont want.
apps we dont want or use.
ringtones, alarm sounds, notifications, system sounds etc we dont want or need.
insert our own apps.
hell yes brilliant idea hope that you do create and bring this project to fruition.
A++++++++++++ on idea and creation.

I like the idea, however, with ROM dev's in mind, i would not make it so one can share the ROM they uploaded. I would make it so the person who uploaded the ROM they can then download it after their modifications were made. I just know that some ROM devs wouldnt appreciate their work being passed on and shared without their approval, a lot of devs dont like mirrors being created and even though the user modifies the ROM, its still not their work since the code is the developers. But yes i would like something like this. i already have a batch file set up that just adds the things i want.

Well, after many hours of trial and error, testing, and confusion I'm very proud to present the first open beta for Blackhole Build-Your-Own Rom on the HTC Thunderbolt.

That said, if something does go wrong I am not responsible for loss of time/money/data/sanity/limbs/life that results directly or indirectly from the use of this Rom. Please enjoy responsibly.

Visit Androiddoes for FAQ's, a list of the latest Rom Manager updates and the official error reporting thread. Also you can find info on how to get early access to the Rom if interested.
Great! So all of this will be linked to Rom Manager? Meaning, we get the ROM there as well as choose what will go on it and then flash? Or, do we grab the ROM from a link provided, and use Rom Manager to personalize it?
Also, is the kernel going to be a separate flash based on our needs or will you include one (or some choices) in the Rom?
Thanks for your work!

The Rom will be in Rom Manager as well, so you'll select the Rom option, and it will give you a bunch of different lists to choose one or more options from, such as:
Music - Stock or AOSP player
Browser - Stock or choice of market browsers
Launcher - Sense, LauncherPro, ADW, GoLauncher, etc.
Stock apps - Add back any removed apps you may want
Theme - Select from available themes (added with permission of creators)
Kernel - Pick the kernel you want with the Rom (added with permission)
Mods - choose which mods are preinstalled
(These are just examples and may not be available right away, or ever)
Blackhole aims to be an all in one experience.
I also try to make it easy to try different things and modify the Rom after it's installed. Every option that you can choose when you flash the Rom for the first time can be chosen later to change things up. These options even work on most other roms too.
Thank you for your question, I apologize if I've been a bit too long winded.
Nice. I already see you in rom manager. Looking forward to try it when rom manager access complete. Thanks.
loved blackhole on the fascinate.. can't wait
So just going through the motions in Rom Manager I can see that this thing has great potential. Was this made originally for Galaxy phones? Seems to be a lot of options for Touchwiz and de-binged apps? Is there or will there be options for sense items. I personally like using sense just all the verizon stuff de-bloated.. I know it is work in progress and looks great. This weekend when I have time I will give it all a go and see how it runs..
Can't wait to see how this grows. Will be a nice option for people that I know that are not really good at setting up custom looks on their phones. Reminds me of Adamz Smoked Glass on the D1 back in the day when he made setup files in recovery to choose what you wanted.. Again awesome work..

Yes the rom was made for the Verizon Samsung Fascinate first, and I'm using that manifest to work in the Thunderbolt options more easily.
I plan to have all of the Stock apps including sense, widgets, themes, wallpapers, etc. available eventually.
I actually took my inspiration for this rom from the Droidmod installer from my D1. When I upgraded I saw there was nothing like that for the fascinate and decided to make it myself. It just kinda caught on from there.
I loved your Blackhole rom on the Fascinate. Its great to see you put one together for the T-Bolt!

Not sure what a log cat is. I tried it twice wiping both times and had no luck

Have you tried downloading it again? could have been corrupted or incomplete download. What's the file size for the one you flashed?

The size was 142MB
If anybody tried to download from rom manager, I had some issues with my manifest, it's fixed now, so if you get an error just exit Rom Manager and try again, It'll start from where you left off.

That's the right size, so it's not an incomplete download. Try flashing the Stock Dexodexed build and then install Blackhole from Rom Manager.
Cool! Really need the Corporate email option to be installed
And, is wifi working in 1.0?
Thanks!

New Galaxy Tablet 7.0 - want to root it.

Just picked up a new galaxy tablet 7.0 (8GB) about a week ago. Great device so far and love it. I just can't stand the preloaded bloatware on the device and the space its taking up. It's currently running version 4.0.4
I've read up a bit up on ROMS and rooting the device. Seem pretty comfortable with it just have a few questions.
1) Do I need an SD card in the device in order to root it?
2) Best rom out there? Appears like the most talked about rom is the Cyanogen Mod 10?
No you don't need an SD Card but you may as well get one as you will need it once you start making nandroid back ups. Your tab fill up quickly ! Not to mention media and apps on top of that as well. Bigger the better to be honest.
No such thing as the best ROM, Once you are rooted try them all out and find one that suits your needs. I love AOKP M1( link in my sig) as you can customize it more than CM10 and has better features IMO.
If you dont want to customize it , try a deodexed stock based ROM with all the bloat removed, ROMSWELL makes some cool ROMS. Search the DEV section of this forum.
As i said its a personal choice , so flash them and try them out. Wont cost you anything apart from some time..... If you need help just ask and someone will give you some advice. Don't forget to flash some GApps ( Goggle Applications) as they are not normally included in a ROM due to copyright issues.
Most of all have fun.
Oh id go for a JellyBean based ROM , nothing wrong with ICS , just the latest version out (4.2 is around the corner as well with some cool new stuff )

Thanks for the info! So the 4.0.4 is not jelly bean but its ICS?
How can I not download Jelly bean.. when I try to do an update it says its the most recent one..
I did see that some ROMS allow you to OC the device, so squeezing that extra little juice out of it I wouldn't mind either
Yeah you're trying to update "stock" and its not been released as yet to the general public.....So flash a custom ROM (once you have root)
Once you root , forget about Samsung updates as they wont work any more, But the XDA community devs do that for us much quicker than Samsung does !
Heres a rough guide from Codeworkx (CM10)
First time installing CyanogenMod 10 to your Galaxy Tab 2, or coming from another ROM:
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM10 ZIPs to your internal SDCard ( or the external SD Card )
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM10 zip from internal SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from internal SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET
- Reboot

The ROM you are running is Ice Cream Sandwich, comes as a "stock" standard on our tabs, CM10 and AOKP are both JellyBean, Some other customs ROMs are as well. Both are under/over-clockable and both can use custom kernels as well. Both VERY stable and have very good support threads by the devs that compiled them.
How to ROOT your Tab
ClockWorkMod recovery
CM10
AOKP

Thanks for your help! Great info there. Are any of these ROMS more complex than the other? I just don't want to get into it too deep or too complex and having more of a issue getting things up and running properly or are these all the same complexity when installed? ie.. customization etc..
Aokp is very similar to CM based ROMs. They are as easy to set up as a stock ROM, only they allow for more tweaks than a factory ROM. The only thing that you have a to do with a custom rom is flash gapps(Google apps) usually in the rom thread. Read, reread, and grow a pair. The fear will turn into a high that draws you in. There is a reason that the term crack-flashing was born. It is very simple to do it on this tablet. If you have any trouble pm me, or post here, and I will walk you through it. I just did it a couple of days ago for my daughters. Good luck

At first try stable roms like AOKP JB milesone 1
As JeramyEggs said , just jump in and get wet ! They are all pretty much the same , I just prefer AOKP as I can customize it a little bit more than the others. I really dont like the way CM10 handles the navigation bar , where as AOKP lets you do as you wish to it. And I like the toggles it uses as well.
Dump stock what ever you do, Dont get me wrong I love the Samsung stock ROMs as they look stunning and the widgets are top class. The music/video players are quality. You will also gain some space on your tab as well. Stock ROMs are around 750MB and custom ROMs are normally under 200MB
Stock has no theme engine as such , that means if you want to change the way it looks ( other than wallpapers) you will have to start decompiling some system .apks ( Applications ) and it gets a tad tricky messing with .xmls.and getting it all working again.
With the theme engine in place you have 100s of themes to choose from ( over 500 in fact) and plenty of mods you can flash as well, You can even edit themes either online or on your PC with some XDA made applciations ( I use "tickle my android" personally to make themes / Edit apks like widgets n stuff )
CM10/AOKP are always being updated ( But AOKP has stopped development for the moment as I mentioned above , until 4,2 is ported) CM10 has a preview build out already. Both ROMs have a ROM control option to pimp your device up as well.
If you look through this thread , you can see most of the main ROMs and what we all do with them.
I tend to flash most of the new ROMs just to try them out. When I'm done messing around with it all I do is boot into recovery and restore my nandroid back up and I'm back to the way I was .Its kinda like system restore on a Windows PC.
Get stuck on anything , just ask as most of the forum members are all pretty cool and more than willing to help out.
My advice is......GO FOR IT !!11!!!1 What you got to lose ?

Reading some of this stuff I am overwhelmed. So in order to backup the device up I need to root it first?
I will start with the HOW TO ROOT YOUR TAB thing now and see how far I get..
So I started last night and let's say didn't get very far. Downloaded the neccessary files but for some stupid reason the Kies software (needed to install this to get the drivers installed for the tablet so I can transfer the contents to it) was not installing.
I left my laptop on during the night and it never finished installing the software. I obtained it right from the Samsung Support website.
Any idea what could be causing this?
Also, once I do get this software installed so that the device shows up under Windows Explorer so I can drag the neccessary .zip files to it. Is there a specific location on the device I should place the files on? I do not currently have a SD card in the tablet.
Oh and my device model is a GT-P3113
So I managed to install Kies.. Guess it was getting hung up on .NET framework 4. So I just downloaded and installed myself and then tried the Kies thing and it went right through the install.
So now I should be good to actually see the device in Windows Explorer once I plug it in.
My question still remains, any particular spot on the device I need to place the .zip files for rooting?

Anywhere you can easily find the tar.md5 file on your windows drive, the*cwm-root-gtab2.zip goes to*/mnt/extSdCard which is the root, don't place in a file. I rooted mine via http://rootzwiki.com/topic/25228-how-to-rooting-gt-p3113-step-by-step-updated-07182012/

Okay.. so /mnt/extSdCard is if you have a SD card in the device.
But I do not have a SDcard, that is why i am actually asking does it matter where I place the files within the tablet internal storage due to not having a micro sd card.

Hmm.. On my first post in this thread I asked if I needed a SD card to root the device and the reply I got back was "no you dont need one"

Well, do your own research. There is a table of contents in the 7" dev forum, go read the rooting method there and also in the general section. Also, I'm not responsible for what others post and, you can ask the other guy how he rooted his without an sd. I recommend reading about rooting before doing it. I will say this is the easiest device to root.
So I managed to root the device. Was pretty straight forward once I got going. I installed AOKP milestone 1 rom as per someones suggestion here saying it's stable. Overall it does look nicer now and smoother only a couple of questions.
1) I took a backup or the stock stuff before doing anything after performing the root. Now I noticed all the data is gone lol.. Is there anyway to get the data back? Mainly the game progress and all the other stuff?
2) I see AOKP has a theme function under it's settings, currently there is only 1 listed. Where does one obtain themes for it? It's not in the Play Store, is it?
3) Saw the overclocking option also, does that mean the overclock can be pumped up to 1200mhz?
Guess my main question now is whether or not I can get that data back lol..
If you performed a factory reset after flashing your custom ROM, which you should have anyway, I'm sorry to say you have lost your data.

Sure did.. Oh well now I'll know at least and look into the actual backup apps to backup game progress.
The .zip files I put on the table prior to rooting, like fix-recovery, the clockwork mod file as well as the actual ROM, can those be removed off the tablet now?
I played around a bit last night and I found the THEME Choose on the Play Store and I saw themes.
