In Italy we have had problems with vodafone (i purchased my nexus one in USA ).
First problem, inside the box they replaced the original headset wich has the music control, with a motorola one. Now after a lot of protests they agreed to sent to all who purchased the phone the HTC headset.
Second, they are blocking the vocal search. I don't know what's the problem, but looks like they are blocking the vocal search because is recognized as VOIP traffic.
Anyway in Italy is sold with eclair and not Froyo.
Hope to see news tomorrow.

Doubt it.
More Froyo release date info....
ben1010 said:
Hi everyone,
I feel your anxiety, and though I'd love to give you all a definitive date, that's not possible, because there is no date. What I mean is, it's not that there's a Froyo release ready to go, and we're holding it back, or waiting for the right time to release it. That's not how it works. Software development is an iterative process, and each release candidate goes through extensive testing. Sometimes, the testing exposes issues introduced in the new version, and the release gets delayed as a result. And so, although we know that we are pretty close to having a final build, we won't be sure of the release date until it arrives, and at that point the release goes out to the public without any further delay. It's a bit like a baby -- the delivery date is a best guess, but if the baby has other ideas, we all have to wait ...

Sucks to be right but if you didn't see this coming I don't know what to say.
Nothing to do now but sit back, relax and wait.
P.S. What we saw at the I/O wasn't really even that close to the final release candidate. They were just being overly optimistic and hurried to give Apple something to worry about. Can't blame them though.

They seriously got a date 6/23 for the desire to be upgraded. But not for the n1?
This is bull. The thread makes it sound like n1 will not be the first to get the official 2.2......
This is BS if this is true.

I hope that is the case..you may be mad, but some of use like Desire 10x better than any standard N1 Rom, cyogen Roms. In fact, 2.1 N1 standard Rom is unusable IMO. If you don't have full Exchange support built into your mobile device, you are not a serious consideration for being purchased with huge numbers of people, particularly in the enterprise.
The interface, options/features of the Desire Rom for these apps like calendar etc...is way ahead of the standard Google stuff for N1.
Also, I have yet to find a way to add a standard POP3 account in 2.1 or 2.2??? Just Exchange and Gmail are the options..that is sad. Desire has this built in standard as well as IMAP.
Plus the interface is just slicker and refined in Desire IMO.
I thought talk was later in the year for Desire though?? Not in a few weeks?

Email app --> Accounts --> Add Account --> Manual Set up. The options are POP3, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Seems pretty straight forward......

I don't see how it could be with the comments here (6/9 by ben1010):

If there's no final Froyo build then I don't see how it could be passed to HTC to throw sense into the mix. I also don't see HTC releasing an RC as their final build. I'd say the 6/23 date is speculation assuming they get a final build by X date.

Google is having a hard time activating the hologram projector. Give them time.
Seriously though, I think MFG's are finally participating in the AOSP project, which is why the projected dates for other devices are so near and the nexus update isn't out yet. The AOSP code may not be out yet, but everybody in the OHA is privy to the code before anyone else. For example the Droid froyo builds that are out.
This is an awesome thing that all devices appear to be updated withing a similiar time frame. It pretty much means Android is being taken seriously.
Cyanogen needs to join the OHA. =D

is it possible that the Hero update is being held back due to the fact that Google have yet to officially release Android 2.1. Surely HTC would not be able to bring it out until this has officially been unveiled?
The Milestone/Motorola Droid shipped with 2.0 before it was "officially" released.

That doesn't really make sense because HTC adds features to the android version its using. They didnt chang 1.5 to 1.6 when they put sense on it. So why would they do the same for 2.1? I think 2.1 is android 2.1 with sense on top.
Then again you may be right!

Interesting article suggesting that Spotify might be included in Android 2.1, with google stumping up some of the subsription fees. Possible announcement of something or nothing tomorrow...

well normally i really prefer HTC devices and i really love HTC Sense too. But if HTC always takes this long to give us Android updates, this might change. Maybe having an NexusOne is better after all, because of the faster updates.
I'm thankful that HTC wants to update directly to 2.1 instead of 1,6->2.0->2.1, but slowly it's getting frustrating since there are more and more apps which are not supporting 1.5....

Froyo - a few weeks away

Froyo will not be released today according to the Android Developer Blog and Google Press Release. Likely in the next few weeks.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/android-froyo-with-some-sprinkles.html
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/05/android-22-and-developers-goodies.html
"As I said at the beginning, Android 2.2 will be here soon, and some devices will get the update in the coming weeks."
Nexus One update in June, no doubt. What a great update, I can't wait!
If only they'd do some battery work and redo the interface; it would be perfect.
Man if they can give away 5,000 HTC Evo's to people there, they should have given Froyo out to every one else that was at least watching the keynotes on youtube... T.T
Thats weird, I have been reading that it will be available to Nexus One users today as an ota update. I thought the waiting thing was for all the other phones. If I cant get my hands on some Froyo, its gonna be a long few weeks.
Not sure how reputable this site is, but they arent the only ones saying it. and if its on the internet, it must be true.

Not hugely impressed by this to be honest. After being screwed around by HTC with the Hero (which, interestingly, I note is still on 1.5 and will be for the forseeable future) I bought the Nexus One for the precise reason of being first in the queue when updates are released.
Unfortunately, if you're a Nexus One user I wouldn't get your hopes up about a release any time soon. If it was going to come, I imagine it would have been ready for the keynote. The Evo 4G is now Google's favourite toy and I should think that's the only way to get FroYo now.

I think the issue is that blog says the ROM is out today when in fact it is the SDK and NDK. A ROM can be cobbled together from the SDK as is being thrown around twitter, but it is not stable.
Hopefully some developers (CM) start to play with these tools and get us Froyo-lite.

N1 is still going to be first - The Evo runs Sense and will have to go through HTC before it will get a ROM release. I'd put good money that the OTA for the N1 will be available first.

Christ, a little dramatic don't you think? Froyo was announced mere hours ago! And Google employees have said that devices will be getting it over the next few weeks and they demoed it ON THE NEXUS ONE! Why do you believe that we shouldn't get our hopes up and that the Evo will be the only way to get it now? Are you seriously that depressed, or is this just another troll? I can't tell.
The SDK is here today, and I'm sure Google is working hard at polishing up the firmware update for the Nexus One and will push it out in due time. No need to panic yet.

Google Officially Updates Us On Froyo Status – FRF72 Was Not Final,

Hey guys,
Just dropping in to let you know that the FRF72 build that is floating around is not the official update. The Android team is feverishly working to get a final version out the door, but like passion-ate has mentioned this will only happen once a release candidate meets our quality criteria.
Since today is the Summer Solstice, we know things will be heating up a bit so hopefully Froyo will be on its way shortly. Thanks for your continued patience!
-Ry Guy
So… that tells us… not very much but we now know 2 things:
* FRF72, which was the latest official leaked Froyo build, was not the final version (we kind of already suspected that)
* and Froyo is still not ready
cool, thnx for the info
And so the wait continues...
Then again if the google guys think that FRF72 still doesn't meet their standards... could be a good thing.
I'm expecting the OTA'd Froyo to have the option to take over Apple's servers and Ddos them to pieces.
watch, we will have waited all this time for froyo and instead we get gingerbread. (crosses fingers and hopes)
Good to know...seems like Google is taking QA to a new level!

I agree, its tough to be mad since we already have it anyway. But I'm with you I'm intrigued by the delay, not put off by it. Hopefully google will not be too embarrassed to announce what caused the delay.
Re: Google Officially Updates Us On Froyo Status – FRF72 Was Not Final,
I'm still excited, they work hard at Goggle, I'm sure the official update its going to be great when its ready.
I think we should have stick to 2.1 till the official froyo comes up,it's good to see that Desire to N1 Roms are active again
Rodriguezstyle ROM with FRF72 us amazing already
Fastest, smoothest Android I've ever used.
Cant wait for 75
So FRF72 is not the final build. What will be in the new build. Is there a list available what items is not met yet in the FRF72 build?
All this time I always have a feeling that froyo is being delayed due to flash! My thought is that they are waiting for the final flash build to optimize froyo for it.
Adobe has released Full flash 10.1 to android androidcentral.com/adobe-releases-flash-101-partners
so dont think they are waiting on flash anymore
and whilst waiting for flash to be ready they thought. "Hey, let's watch some korean drama and worry about gingerbread later"

Froyo 2.2 Coming Soon as per Sprint!
Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in near future.
As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future. It also will be available as an upgrade on the recently launched HTC EVO 4G.
With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory.

Yup finalizing hopefully means that its done and just tweaks left. I would expect to get it some time in July.
Awesome! I wonder who will release it first though, Sprint or the devs at XDA
I expected something like this as Fridays the return deadline for the first wave of Evo buyers.
Smart would be to actually HAVE Froyo out a few days before that date...like maybe in Monday expected OTA?!....as the effects are significant with Froyo.

HTC works fast . A Google developer said that it would take even less time to implement Sense into Froyo 2.2 since it was mainly native code that implemented into froyo. Or something like that.
As much of a naysayer as I'm going to come off as, experience (while limited) makes me think closer to end of August or early September. There's no ETA ("soon" is prety vague) and I remember how long it took to get an OS update for the Hero. That coupled with the fact that HTC hasn't released the source code to the current version (much less the new version being promised) makes me think "Soon" will be a few months (which *would* be fast for them )

Froyo Status Update - Can anyone read Korean?
How can anyone be sure that is a real email? I mean why would samsung execs, or anyone else that might make decisions upon receiving this news need the particular screen shots attached. Do they need a screen shot showing the version to believe it!?
That seems more like something the community would do..... Call me cynical.

Hmmm ... ITs taking time to be released worldwide .. . probably lost in Translation from Korean to other languages
Could the release of 2.2.1 for the Nexus One have caused an extra delay?

Every day is painstaking as I wait for froyo... Mainly I want HID support, but I don't wanna flash to the beta leaks yet.
Surprisingly all the leaked builds suddenly seems to have stopped after JPK! I wonder why Samsung keeps us all guessing and dying here out of anxiety...is it really hard for them just to say what they have on their minds?!?! Even if they slip on the date, they can atleast keep us posted....not like we'd eat them up for slipping a date :|
hmph!
All this waiting is gonna give me a heart attack... At this age!! come come oh sweet flash! :-D
Look at the date on the korean mail ....
2010/09/27 ..... What happened since then ?

Samsung rep in norway said middle of october. "Next week", but if its this week or next week is not clear. Personaly I can wait another week without problems. My phone with jm2, no root, no lag fix have no lag to speak of, gps works fine and battery behaves nicely too.

On a Side Note:
Unfortunately I could never RESPECT HTC being an OEM for HP and many other brands, still it could never develop products which really appeal me. Samsung on the other hand came with some of the firsts of times like Voice Dialing, Super AMOLED to name a few.
My only complain about Galaxy S is the lack of touch sensitive middle button which could have acted as a trackpad! Also, lack of physical keyboard pains a bit, but I hope Android can really come to terms with Windows Phone which is limited in flexibility like iPhone. Android has their own problems being on initial stage.
Please excuse for dragging the discussion to another angle, however, I believe Samsung is also in infancy like Android while HTC is gradually maturing (though long way to go, not sure if they will ever make it).
With Galaxy S, Samsung made the right move, at the right time. They just need a good development team now to improve their software platform, features and flexibility of this phone atleast in terms of multimedia and performance (the features which best suit this phone).
Sorry for the long post, however I hope Samsung and we at XDA can really work wonders to this phone atleast in terms of multimedia support and features like simultaneous recording and playback of HD Audio (24bit 96kHz) which I believe this phone is capable of including call recording option atleast through a third party app. Hope this could be realized by the Froyo release or further updates, or through the capable developers of XDA.
