I've had a hunt thorugh the forums but can't find an answer on this one...
When I attach my SPV M600 to my PC via a USB cable and ActiveSynv kicks in all looks well - all my synchronisiation works like magic.
Unfortunately I cannot then use internet explorer on my PC - it can't connect to the internet.
I presume my PC thinks it should be using my phone to connect to the internet - is there a setting I've missed to sort this out ?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
It seems this is something to do with ActiveSync 4.1 using TCP/IP to connect.
My internet explorer seems to be using the new lan connection to attempt to reach the interent.
Anyone any idea how I stop it doing this ???
Turned out to be my Internet Explorer's connection settings.
I'm set up to use an automatic configuration script (on my PC at work) - if I change this to use a proxy server all works ok...
hello...iam trying to connect my wizard to my PC using WIFI so i can use the internet connection of the PC on my Wizard.....iam able to connect the PC and WIZARD and even access files on the PC using the WIZARD....iam using a ad-hoc connection as my PC is equipped with a wireless network card (dont have a router unfortunately)....both the Wizard and PC are assigned static IPs(when i use DHCP on the Wizard it just refuses to pick up an IP address).....the issue iam having is i simply cant access the internet through the PC even though INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING is enabled on my PC and i know a netwrok connection between the PC and WIZARD has been established because both devices can ping each other...am i missing something???....thanks in advance for any help
do you have a firewall? you could try turning it off for a few mins see if thats causing problems.
if it is the firewall you can usually add the card as trusted.
i know norton stops all sort of things it shouldnt.
not using any firewall.....anything else ? what about connection settings on the WIZARD ?

That can be the problem. Do you have connections setup? If I remember correctly, you need at lest one setting setup. Who is your carrier? You can find cab files in this forum to make it very easy for you.
My wife is using a T-Mobile MDA at work and her job uses proxy to get network access for their desktop computers. We're using T-Mob web plan (T-Zones) and use a proxy setting to access to the internet. But when she connects her phone to her desktop, it changes her current connection to the companies proxy and port info. She really doesn't need to access the internet while connected to ActiveSync, so how do I keep ActiveSync from changing the proxy settings? Or is there a way to have both proxy settings and switch automatically? It seems like Active sync will change the proxy info of whatever connection is set in the phone when connecting. Any advice would be appreciated.

i think you need to have one setting only!
you can try to disable the advanced network connectivity for the active sync at work! go active sync - file - (make the following settings)
this computer is connected to - work network
uncheck the two boxes below
that what i do for my work computer - hope this useful
best wishes
Thanks... I had the same problem with my HD2 but your tipp is working for me... nevertheless, as long as my ohone is connected via USB to my work computer the GPRS connection is down, so I can't receive mails or surfe the internet with my phone and its normal GPRS connection - any ideas how to do something about this?
I use my ActiveSync at work to synch the Outlook calender entries but also to charge the batterie at the same time. Until I used your settings I had to modify the proxy settings (delete proxy) every time I disconnected the HD2 from the PC. Now that this is solved I would like to use the time having my phone connected to the PC to use the internet as well - as it is working when it's only connected in harddisk mode...
Thanks in advance!
DW!
Hi,
Is there a way, to only use GPRS/UMTS connection while the device is connected via USB? When I'm connected via USB, my Hermes tries to use the ActiveSync connection for Internet, which won't work (company proxy), so I want to have UMTS connection, but still be able to remote-control via USB...
mine use gprs when i choose my isp in settings->connections->connections-Advanced-select network
even when connected to activesync
hm, I have for both settings there "E-Plus Internet", i.e. my provider... still it doesn't connect. As soon as I disconnect USB, it works.
then i would try unchecking enable advanced network functionality
in usb to pc in connections
still the same... doesn't connect

On the PC head into ActiveSync, open up the Connection Settings for the device in question, try unchecking "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC".
Disconnect the device from USB, then reconnect and sync, then try to access the internet on the device.
hm, I thought exactly that option should be checked, because it says "allow wireless connections while connected to the PC". Nonetheless, I unchecked it, dis-/reconnected it, still no go.
Is this because you dont have the net on your PC?
Maybe your provider doesn't allow tethering. I.e. using the phones internet connection whilst connected to the pc.
You can use PDAnet ,download trial from here
http://software.palminfocenter.com/product.asp?id=4237
this will allow you to use the internet whilst connected to the pc, but this will also mean the pc can also use the internet of the phone, i am not sure if this is exactly what you want, as you dont indicate the reason why you want to be able to connect to the net on the device. Anyway using PDAnet, you will still be able to sync, browse and use the device as you normally would, as well as access the internet on the PPC and PC.

There is internet on the PC, though behind a proxy with auth (and some blocked stuff). Since the proxy auth isn't RFC conform it seems, using the internet connection on the phone doesn't work with most programs (i.e. weather updates), some programs even don't have a proxy option (and the one from "connections" doesn't work either). That's why I want the phone to connect itself by UMTS, while I still can remotecontrol it with PocketController. As everybody already said, it should be possible.

mh, the PC shouldn't use the phone as modem, that would violate the security restrictions here badly. I'll try PDAnet and see if I can restrict that.
Edit: PDANet also can't connect. could it be possible, that it is some Windows policy on the Desktop preventing that?
Can you turn Data Connection off in CommManager on the PDA?

hm, not really....
I am interested in this as well.
I have the Titan (Sprint Mogul) and would like to be able to connect it to my work computer VIA USB and be able to charge the phone and control it via MyMobiler but the phone should use its EVDO cellular connection for the internet. Instead it appears to use the internet that my work computer has which blocks certain sites and ports for IMAP and POP.
I would like the phone to be able to check gmail (via IMAP) as well as go to any website I would like.
Hi
Could anyone tell me how to set the HD and PC such that the HD can make use the internet connection via PC during in Active Sync.
settings->connections->connections->advanced-select network
pick my home network in the dropdownbox or whatever the non isp
network connection is called on your device
in settings->connections->usb to pc make sure
Enable advanced network func is checked if you use usb
and if it don't work your firewall is most likely blocking it
Some stranges, I can connect to Internet at Home's PC but I can't connect at Office's PC. My Office PC set proxy server to browsing internet.

As stated by Rudegar above, you'll probably find that your work has a firewall set up so you are unable to access internet through your phone using usb cable.
Is it possible to by-pass the firewall setting at PC or proxy server?

You would need the access codes from your IT department
