Hi there,
I'm new to this forum - and new to the whole Windows Mobile idea as I'm normally an avid Apple fan but I do make an exception when it comes to the phone as the iPhone (as of yet) is quite 'useless' when it comes functionality and flexibility compared to a Windows Mobile device.
In either case, I've recently flashed my MDA Vario II and, after having used Black Satin for a day or two, put on Schap's 3.60a WM6 ROM. The only reason i did not like Satin was that it combined the inbox/outbox for MMS and SMS messages (knowing my luck I'm sure there would have been an easy way around that).
Right, ever since I put on the WM6 ROM and installed a few other applications, such as Spb's Mobile Shell, Spb Weather, etc etc the phone seems to be incredibly sluggish and slow. I did a full re-set and then installed one application at a time to see if it has something to do with a particular bit of software. But I don't think that's the case as the phone acts pretty slow even with nothing installed after the hard re-set. But now, after a few days, it takes, for example, around 15seconds to show the Windows directory using either File Explorer or Resco's explorer. The start-up progress, especially the transition from the Splash Screen to the standard Home Screen is incredibly slow and happens in stages. It then takes about another 30 seconds for the keypad to come up, asking for my PIN.
I've been running all sorts of utilities such as MemMaid, PocketMechanic and SKTools to make sure that the device is in 'mint' condition but, if at all, this made little change to the overall speed.
I expected the phone to run slightly slower under WM6 compared to WM5 as, strictly speaking, the TyTN, as I understand it, was not designed with WM6 in mind - which may be the reason why a lot of providers here in the UK do not offer a WM6 upgrade. However, the phone has become uncomfortably slow and sluggish so is there any way to speed it up or is this a known issue with WM6 on the TyTN?
Also, not sure this is the right forum for this but I also tried to set up Direct Push and it works fine - only problem I have is that it does not seem to support WiFi (it does when I check manually but as soon as I utilise the Direct Push function, the phone insists to connect to the 3G network). Now this is not necessarily a big problem as I've got an unlimited data plan but when at home I am using WiFi and there is little point in having both switched on, WiFi and the Data Connection as that does drain the battery. Again, any ideas to solve this would be appreciated
Thank you guys
Hello mate,
Not sure why you are having the problems you are having. Anyway I run Schaps on my Tytn (see my sig), together with SPB products without any problems at all. The whole lot is rock solid.
My suggestion would be that you re-flash your device with the combination of ROM and Radio that I use, given I have confirmed no issues. If that works then you have at least proved your device is ok. If it doesn't work then your problem lies elsewhere, probably with the device.
Strong advice - make absolutely sure you have done all the things and taken all the precautions outlined in Mr Vanx's excellent guides (see here http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/)
I will track this thread to see how you get on.
Cheers
WB
Hello there...
How was your device under Satin? I am running Satin on an 8525, and it runs ok. Black Satin is also a WM6 rom. I am running HTC home, pocket breeze and iLauncher. SPB tends to let it slower, but not that slow for sure.
I suggest you read through the specific thread of Schaps 3.60. I am not sure, but i once read a few posts, and if i recall correctly, there were some problems with the version. Either that or 3.57... don't know for sure.
I also suggest re-flashing with a different rom. Or, read through the Satin thread here at XDA-devs or at 4winmobile, and there might be a fix for the mms/sms thingy. Then go back to Satin. There is also the Black X going on, but I think it is still beta...
Just don't forget to follow Mr. Vanx precautions, specially installing HardSPL v7, if you don't want a bricked device.
Let us know how it goes
Hey there,
Thanx for replying. I have been thinking about re-flashing the ROM but to see if that helps. I have been playing with the phone a lot so I may have somehow done something which I shouldn't have - whatever that may be :S
Can I ask ... in your sig you state that the 1.50 Radio is very buggy - what are the issues with it, cos I am using that one and was wondering if that could possibly be related to it?
Thanx for the replies guys. I've decided to re-flash the ROM and, it seems to be working fine again. I actually think the phone works slightly faster now as it did under the T-Mobile WM5 ROM. I haven't updated the Radio and stuck to 1.50 as I've read somewhere that it's working fine for the UK (lemme know if I'm wrong - they say there would be a noticable improvement in 3G reception, but I haven't seen that, but I dont seem to have any major issues with 1.50)
So, fingers crossed the phone won't slow down again - which I guess it shouldn't and I'll be careful what I install on it, making sure I have the latest versions of everything.
Thanx again for all your suggestions
Flipside,
Radio 1.50 caused me loads of problems; dropped calls, not being able to make a call for no reason, people not being able to reach me even though the phone was on and in an excellent signal area, having to reboot to get the radio to switch on, etc, etc.
Have not looked back since i went to 1.47. The lesson learnt for me was not to jump at the latest radio rom, just because its the latest. Latest does not necessarily mean best for ones particular circumstances.
Cheers
WB
Hello all, after trying out a lot of ROM's you guys cooked and sticking to one I like best, I still have some wishes left with regards to the Polaris, and that is: Is there a phone-app that really works without delay? All (including the factory based) phone-apps i've used have a delay, and it is quite annoying when you want to type in a number (because it still is a phone!) and this is showed with a delay on screen. This gets worse when more memory/processor is used by apps, but without any fancy stuff it is already quite frustrating at times.
Anyone been on this quest so far?
WM 6.1
Did you upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 ?
The phone feature is much faster
Yes, i have a M2D rom install (shekar's) and its fast and reliable. Phone is however annoyingly slow, as in all other ROM's I tested, so I blame the Phone-app. Am I looking in the wrong direction?
I'd be interested to see how many of us upgraded rom on new Pure.
Which rom you used, performance improvements, battery life, problems etc.
Did you back up stock rom?
Andy
I'll usually run the stock rom for a few weeks then start playing. I'll be watching this thread!
What I have noticed is that on a lot of the popular roms, you'll see things like "landscape/rotate will not work", or you will see nary an ATT person in there, but lots of euro TD2 owners, etc.
I have the WWE AT&T Pure and had it stock for about 4 days and decided to flash to !Amen!'s R5 Ultimate ROM which had the new TouchFlo 3d 2.5 Leo interface. As much as I liked the new interface it was sluggish and I had a few bugs that kept me from liking it a lot. I then looked into "TESS's 3.6 WinMo 6.5 TouchFlo 2.1" ROM and switched to it and haven't looked back. It's coupled with the new radio and all it's signal goodness. I have had no issues with this rom and have thoroughly tested everything from data, tethering, bluetooth file transfer and stereo profiling, wi-fi strength and connection, gps, overall interface response time, multitasking, and video playback to the kicker -the battery life (which I am reporting is excellent, a full day of heavy use and it's at a little over half battery). All worked and I am proud to bring you the good news that if you are looking for a solid ROM to flash to then head to TESS's release thread for info. on his ROM and it's glory.
flashed my pure to energy ROM within 30 minutes of getting it, so while i cant comment on battery life, speed and stability is much better.
did the new rom affect your ability to use 3g?

ROMs do not affect the radio so AT&T 3G will still work. Flashing a Radio would probably not change it either since the bands are in the chip and changeable by software. But don't take that last part for fact.
I have a Pure...running the latest stock htc Euro WWE 6.1 ROM until the official htc 6.5 ROM is out. Good Lord, when will it be here? I tried the official 6.5 ROM on my Touch Pro 2 and WOW!
FWIW, I noticed that I know have an H instead of 3G in the signal indicator. The AT&T ROM is so full of crap I just couldn't stand it. I am not big on cooked ROMs because there always seems to be something that bothers me...
Had my Pure for over a week now, played with stock ROM for only about half a day before replacing it with a cooked one. Tried multiple ones during my past week and here's my findings:
- Dutty's R4 (and R5) [WM6.5/Manila2.5]: The first one flashed to replace AT&T stock ROM, I really liked it for almost all the aspects. However, push mail sometimes does not push (which happened to Dutty's ROMs on my Diamond as well before) so I have to give it up.
- EnergyROM Leo [WM6.5/Manila2.5]: Pretty fast and stable, but the interface is not my cup of tea, and battery drains pretty fast on mine, so this one didn't stay too long.
- Tom Topaz Leo R2 [WM6.5/Manila2.5]: Very nice ROM, stable and fast, close to stock ROM in terms of interface (not too many customizations). Quite similar to Duttys but without the push mail issue. Battery life seems to be fair. This is the one I'm staying with.
- TESS 3.6 [WM6.5/Manila2.1]: A lot of people says it's good but didn't appeal to me. Forgot what was the exact issues but there were a few, so it didn't stay too long on my Pure.
- Nataly 3.0 [WM6.1/Manila2.1]: A very nice ROM, super fast and clean, just that it's a 6.1, I do prefer 6.5, so I switched back to Tom's ROM. But after a days use of this ROM, I liked its simplicity and performance. I'll probably try it again once the 6.5 version is released. Battery life is said to be super on this one but I didn't have enough time to test out. From my one day's experience it seems to be pretty good.

Which HardSPL did you use to flash the ROMS?
on this one Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL my AV shows a virus and deletes it
I used the stock ROM for about a day, but like most everyone else, I don't like all the extra junk that AT&T puts in there, so I flashed right away. I first used the EnergyROM Leo, liked it well and may go back to it. However, after reading the benchmark spreadsheet, I decided to give Dutty's R5 a try, and have been happy with it. I like the eye candy look of the EnergyROM better, and generally, I can't tell much difference in speed between the two, though Dutty's benchmarks much faster.
Strangely, I found that the stock AT&T ROM was the most error-prone. I got a lot of Windows error messages (shell32.exe, I think) with it. I've managed to lock up both EnergyROM and Dutty's here and there.
I can't say much about battery time at all.

There are no viruses at all. Just turn off you AV and DL it. Do you have Norton? For some reason Norton sees it as a virus a lot. AVG did not for me. But there is no virus. Or I'm sure there would be hundreds of angry TD2 owners and you woulda heard about it.

Tried just about every rom available: energyrom, Showdowline's, Dutty's, and TESS rom. Out of all of them the TESS rom drains my battery the least and is still the most quick in response and rarely locks up or lags. The others have manila 2.5 and I just don't think the pure can handle it unless htc or att comes out with their own version for the pure/td2.
Ahh I can't wait until I get my Pure and start crankin out builds.

What do you mean "bands changeable by software"? If I'll install radio from Europe, will HTC Pure start support European 3G?
AT&T Pure results
I've had pretty good success with several of the most popular ROMs on the AT&T Pure, including TESS, Dutty, X-Treme2.V5, and some of the less popular ROMs too.
What I've found, though, is that in many of these ROMs there is a dialer glitch and a close-button glitch that probably is unique to the Pure.
The dialer glitch: When a voice call comes in, it seems that a third of the time, you cannot use the slider to actually answer the call. And when the call does answer, there is major lag between sliding and answering. I have no idea what causes this, but I've been looking for a ROM that doesn't have this glitch and haven't found one yet.
The close window glitch: This might or might not be unique to the Pure, but in a lot of ROMs, the close-window X in the upper right corner has a graphical glitch. When pressed, the highlight graphic actually appears to the left of the button, rather than beneath it. This is not a functional issue; it's an aesthetic one. But it crops up a lot in the ROMs that I've tested.
I also installed a reduced AT&T Pure ROM listed in another thread, but that was a work in progress and had broken aliases scattered around. I actually like the blue AT&T Pure interface, and I'm hoping that somebody will take that stock ROM and do a nice speed customization with it to cut out the bloatware and make it more responsive.

If it's anything like the prior gen diamond for ATT, you will want to find a rom WITHOUT a slide to answer add on.
They were 100% not compatible with the phone, and did exactly what you described.... well if it even connected the call after waiting a while.
Most of those rom cookers are aware of the problem with the prior gen, maybe if you are having a problem, mention it AND mention you are on ATT. Looks like history is repeating itself.

Intersting. But isn't the slider the default for all dialers in Manila/Sense? This means I would have to go to Titanium to avoid this bug I guess -- unless there's some dialer mod that can patch a Manila/Sense slider. All the Manila/Sense ROMs I've tried have had this slide dialer.
Oh, and by the way, it's not just the slide itself that seems to be causing the problem. Actually pressing the physical send/talk button has the same effect when answering a call. That is, about a third of the time, it won't actually answer a call at all, or does connect but only after lagging for four or five seconds. Really annoying stuff.
Ths send/talk button issue might be related to the dialer glitch you're talking about, but I haven't done any testing with a dialer that doesn't use the slide-to-answer. Haven't seen a ROM that doesn't have the slider in the dialer.
Yup in my prior gen case, it was also the physical buttons. Sounds exactly the same!
The ONLY one that would work was a stock ATT diamond rom that someone took the bloatware out of, and left the stock answer buttons.
Is the slider modified in any way in each of these roms?
Do they use another slider in place of the manila slider?
Usually they give a list of the oem rom and the added or modified applications.
Sometimes, and actually a lot of times, they base their work on a euro rom version and call it WWE, that may not have the right drivers or whatnot for the ATT specific hardware.
It really does sound like the same issue all over again. But I'd ask in each of the rom threads and hopefully you'll get a quick answer!
Just finished some testing on Dutty's new Holy Grail ROM, and the results are good. Called my phone 20 times, and answered with the slider 10 times and send/talk physical button 10 times. All slides/presses connected the call immediately with no lag whatsoever. So unless my sampling is too low to be conclusive (perhaps the glitch will kick in less than 10 percent of the time) I think this is the ROM I will use for now.
Unfortunately, the graphics glitch with the close button (the highlight occurs to the left of the X rather than beneath it) is in this build. Plus, the built-in version of Bing doesn't work/launch. But these are small sacrifices to pay for a great all-around ROM that actually answers calls when you press the button or move the slider. Woot!
I was on the phone with T-Mobile Support (611), regarding my HD2 and the issues that I am still having with this device. The rep. stated that T-Mobile is aware of the issues on the phone and that the 1st ROM update did not resolve them all and caused some new ones.
She stated specifically this new update would resolve the issue of the device hanging after you try to wake up the phone...also, the "unreliable data connection" issue is still prevalent (I still have this problem - and I have tried everything I can think of or read about). She stated that there are other fixes that they are working on to resolve with this new update.
I could not get a solid time frame, but she stated that it should be pretty quick, given that they issued the first one within a short time frame after the HD2 release.
Now, I'm not sure if this means an upgrade from 6.5 to 6.5.3, but I wouldn't count on it. I just hope it is released soon. This device is so nice and so awful at the same time. Constantly I experience little nagging issues that make using this device such a hassle.
Have you tried just flashing it to one of these custom ROMs?
No I have not yet tried the custom ROM yet on the HD2. I like the way the T-Mobile ROM are, I just am getting fed up with the "unreliable data connection" BS. Also, the phone (since the ROM update) has been running slow and I don't think that is acceptable with the 1GHz snapdragon on this device. My only other issue is that the speaker phone stops working because T-Mobile added some stupid software to the device. If you dial 611, the software pops up and tries to solve your problem via webpage and stops the speaker phone from working till you restart the device.
While that is a short list of issues, they are major issues in using the device. But I think i will wait till this 2nd update comes out...if it does not resolve my issues, custom ROM here I come!
I belive flashing NRG will solve your issues It did mine.
Which issue did it solve? The data connection issue?
Data and freezing as well not to mention the phone just flies now. flashing a new radio fixed reception issue
well I will give it a try and see if it resolves my issues as well. I figure we have about a month or so before T-mobile releases the 2nd update. I know I will not be able to last that long with these issues. It is just a pain in the a-- to flash ROMs every day...I'm not into doing it all the time. I would like to find a good stable ROM and run with it. It just takes too much time flashing and reinstalling all those programs and changing the settings to where I like them all (too much work).
Like I said it is a shame, i really like this device on paper, but in the real world is just has some serious issues. I thought i would get a year or two out of this device when i bought it, now I am already looking to swap this puppy out. I'm looking to see what is coming down the pipeline. I refuse to go with WP7 (feels like the step backwards with it limitations as compared to WM6.5 - and i don't want a device that clones the iPhone of 4 years ago)
Anyone other suggestion on custom ROMs?
NRG 21911 is very solid and you don't have to flash everyday it has xda uc and pim backup witch will back up and reinstall all your software I did it yesterday in about 20 min. I refrain from flashing during the week. the the first time it will take about an hour just read all you can on it. 670megs free space on device 13gigs on sd and 300 megs of free RAM
I'm downloading the 23121 Cookie Dinik Glass version right now...I'll let you know how it works on my device. thanks for pointing me in this direction, appreciate it!
tmobile rep told me the same thing after I had a warranty exchange, she said to expect the update soon as there are alot of people experiencing problems with the current software. Although to be honest after running Android on my HD2 I dont think I ever want to use winmo again.
are you getting everything to work with Android? i did not think they have a fully functional Android ROM for the HD2 yet
They're all the same...
My biggest complaint is the bad data connection. Paying too much money for crappy connection. I can't even get connection in my lower level of my house. I think every carrier and cell phones all have their own problems. My two co-workers, one with Droid and the other iPhone have similar problems. Droid keeps freezing 2 warranty phone exchanges so far and iPhone looses connection frequently. iPhone guy wishes his would freeze so he could get a replacement. So it's not just me.
Help me please
So i tried to install android, and on gthe web it said i needed to install hpsl well my phone had it set to 2.10 they stated i needed 2.08 or earlier so i did it but the install still didn't work !!! How can i return my phone back to 2.10 and still get my warranty back
android fo real?

i read on pocetnow that android is being worked on on xda. seen a couple of post too, but there is always some component not really working. is there an official android post where all the kinks are worked out? i would like to switch if thats the case. thanks.
Wow is all I can say about that NRG ROM....it is great! does everything I have been looking for, no data connection issues since last night (I'll report back on this issue as time goes by). It's fast and very stable (so far, but hell I'm impressed), and I did not even use most stable version the 21911.
The UI is great, I love the three pages of app slot, everything is within one or two finger stokes this way. It also gets rid of the apps that I don't want (ie TelNav, etc...) but keeps most of the apps that I do want...I can always install cabs for the programs I want from the official ROM. Plus it has cooked into it all those sweet tweaks and settings. Great work, I'm not even waiting for T-mobile to release the 2nd update any longer.
Thanks gtrplr71 again for suggesting this custom ROM, it's so nice, I don’t even think I will be trying out any other ROMs.
I would not get hopes up of a 6.5.3 upgrade. Could you imagine the Technical support nightmare if they had to troubleshoot 2 different OS versions?
This is one reason I think Android and Linux will really take off in the future.

There's a HD2 Android section in the original HD2 area (euro hd2 section).... but it is a work in progress. There are still a lot of issues and kinks. It will be a while before it works as well as a native android phone. But the progress they've made is unbelievable. It's great having both winmo and android on my phone.

your welcome don't forget to make a backup with pim backup to your sd card and use xda uc once you get things settled. Have fun!
how does the xda uc work? i could not figure that out, when I ran the app it stated that i did not have that file on my storage card...but it appeared there somehow.
Also, the incall record does not seem to work at all. when i lauch it (after I connect or before I connect a call) all I get is a blank lined page (note pad page).
And, is there a list of the added and removed apps somewhere? I could not find it in the ROM thread.
As for the 6.5.3 upgrade from T-Mobile, i don't think it will happen either and right now, after trying the NRG ROM...I don't care. I'm not even going to try the T-mobile 2nd ROM upgrade. Now with Android comes along on the HD2 (fully functional) then i will surely set up a dual boot situation on my HD2. That is like the best of both world.
(xda uc)-you wont notice anything different It will run and monitor the phone for new settings when you decide to flash a new build it will auto run and import settings and apps.

I am looking for a clean useable ROM.
I have tried a few now and cannot find one that works well enough to use day to day, the nearest i have had to a useable rom is mdeejay_froyo_HDv.3.4.1, however typing is useless and all over the place. I logged it but go no answer or fix suggested so I had to ditch it.
I have tried other roms who dont have problems with typing but they have all got there own issues, for instance, some dont pickup you sim contacts, some dont have internet configureable, some just are just too darn ugly to use.
dont suppose anyone can recommend anything for elegancia GTX wwe - 11/6/2010 - radio 2.10
I'm using hyperdroid without any problems. My requirements were a CM-based ROM, with a decent or good-looking theme and low lcd density (240 makes everything waaay too big imo), and hyperdroid has all this. Not too much bloatware either.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
The closest I've come so far is HyperDroid 1.6. It's ALMOST there. Occasionally, it falls asleep and needs a power cycle (pop out the battery) to bring it back to life. It also seems to persistently have trouble working with my bluetooth radio in the car. Playing audio works great, but it simply hangs if I get an incoming call or attempt to make an outgoing call.
Bluetooth is also somewhat dodgy with WinMo 6.5 so it might not even be Android's fault. The hardware is really nice so I'm hoping things will get better in a future release.
I have tried these, I cannot get any internet, doesn't seem to autosetup.
Try FroyoStone Sense v3.1, it works really well. I use VBNROM (minimal) and Radio 2.15.50 and it works just like a native android phone. Great Battery life too. Oh and you have to enter APN stuff manually, just google it.
I'm having quite good luck with Bangsters 1.5
Had to switch to rmnet because ppp connections were bloody useless. still having some slight data reception issues, but even with that a MUCH better experience than with my old cliq.
I've been using FroyoStone v3.1 with great success for a little while now, easily my most favourite and most reliable build I've found to date. Everything works, apart from the camera flash delay but that's pretty much universal on most recent (non-evo based) builds.
I'm testing Froyo HD at the moment and really quite like it, only problems I seem to be having could well be my fault (Titanium Backup might have replaced a couple of critical HTC components by accident)
shubcraft 1.5 is about as stable and complete as you are going to get. theres another 2.2 stock cm6 floating around too. however you would have to do something i know you hate. SEARCHING
FroyoStone 3.1 worked much better than others and seemed to be almost perfect for over a week. However, despite DarkStone's claims, by the end of the second week the screen freezes gradually came back, rendering the phone barely usable when walking. The PPP started getting stuck on upload more and more, adding to the problems list.
I should admit there's still no build that has all the functionality working flawlessly, unless you're willing to sacrifice some features, like camera, flash, G-sensor, PPP, music player, etc...

cheers for all the advice everyone, managed to get FroyoStone Sense v3.1 working pretty well, still no camcorder though which is a shame.
