Hi
I always see a "GPS tool", "quick GPS" and all these stock apps in every cooked or stock roms, and i don't really know what are they for....
QuickGPS is actually a very useful utility. Use it to download up-to-date files to speed up acquisition times.
They were useful as hell on devices with POS GPS. I'm looking at you TP1 & 2.
can you guys give me some examples of which apps will work with quick GPS???
Presumably it's any app that uses GPS managed by Windows. This is a wild, uneducated guess, but I think Windows manages most of the GPS functions, and would factor in AGPS and Quickgps for whatever program calling on it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Quick GPS informs the interface where to search and lock into GPS-sats. It is updated every 6 days.
It has nothing to do with any program using the GPS receiver it just helps the receiver to lock in as quick as possible.

I know this has been hashed out a number of times, but I need to reassert the efforts of this forum on accessing the aGPS coordinates in many of our CDMA pocketpcs. The link below refers to a program for symbian UIQ phones that allows access to the aGPS for navigation.

If this exists there MUST be a way to access the GPS coordinates on our phones. Ideally what we need is a way to create a softGPS that would output GPS coordinates to be used with 3rd party navigation software such as TomTom. I have heard that the output format for aGPS is different than with proper sat-based GPS units. Perhaps a program such as GPS Babel http://www.gpsbabel.org would assist with that. I will gladly ante up some money to anyone who can make this a reality (and I'm sure I'm not alone!) Thanks for reading this far down the page!

I have TomTom which is great. The GPS pins you down to within a few feet of where you are. Fantastic.
Assisted GPS (why they call it that beats me as it is definitely NOT GPS) has to determine where you are relative to cell sites and I'm not sure that it is going to provide an accurate enough fix to make is useful for navigating.
While there is a mysterious GPS section of the OMAP chip that runs an HTC wizard, I don't think there is definitive information as to whether it is actually used in these devices or not.
aGPS Hack on Tytan/Mogul
I, too, am eager to figure out how to get this to work. In theory, once we get access to the tower aGPS info, we could create a library that converts the tower format into standard GPS feed format and "fool" Google Maps, etc. into thinking it is accessing standard GPS feed data.
This would be immensely helpful, even if we can only get general location accuracy (+- 1 mile).
VIto FindMe lets you send your location via an encrypted SMS to a friend also using Vito FindMe and then allow them to input the co-ordinates into Google Maps to see where you (and they) are at that time.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-vito-findme.html
Downside is the fact that it appears to be currently working with "Pocket PC Phone Edition with built-in GPS receiver". May have to wait for the possible GPS unlock later this year to test it with our Moguls.
Just as info...
Hi, i've already post it on the gps unlock thread, but for someone who wish interesting free navigation soft... Get a look at
http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/index.php
If you like vito, try Vito smart navagtor, that combine all the Vito tools...
And may be Tracky will interest you.
Also Navizon and Reperion may be tryed.
In fact when i've got my P4000 the tech supp, was tolding me that the gps chip of my device was not locked-up, and that i should found and 3rd app that fit my device....(that techn was less knowing than me lol)
So i tried many app.
Gpspassion may also be an interesting forum for info about gps...
Wish will help you, to dicover the gps interesting worls.
P.S. in community that you're looking for (net tracking) you'll find tools like registring for you and your friends point of interest like: automatic speed radars cameras, speed limits( the soft will advise you of over-speed), many other geocatching funny tools.

Advantage get localisation in city or subway (like subway maps) were some other gps failled, but in regional area it"s really not the better one's 'cause it need cell towers)
yea but taht VITO FindMe doesnt work with 6800 tho
Does not work with 6800 yet !!
True... Mentioned it in my post. There might be a work around to get it to work though and considering the talent of the forum, I am sure someone will find a way.
FindMe generates position errors of up to 150 metres when I try it. i think it may be miscalulating the lat/long in decimal from the lat/long returned by the GPS. GPS is OK with all other GPS apps I have run on my Kaiser (v1615).
Apart from that it's a great app
Hello,
I have not been able to find anything about my problems in the search except for the GPSBot which I am currently trying.
I realized problems with simple GPS tracking with Ozi (Version2.19) and Tracky - both registered versions.
Actually I am not that sure anymore, how tracking with Ozi 2.19 has to be performed, because the new design is driving me crazy, but when I realize to do so, it continously stopps tracking without any information or actions from my side. Same with Tracky.
TT7 btw is working absolutely fine. No problems with lost signals or stopping the navigation.
I use Bepe 093.
Any other proposals for a good GPS-tracker (only) ? I would like to have my soaring logs saved somehow as GPX files for further use and to archive. Doesn't matter if Ozi, tracky, or whatever sw to get it.
Any ideas ?
thanks in advance
Best regards
Holger
I used a trial of GPS Tuner the other week which worked well, I tracked a hike up Great Gable in the Lake District, worked good. but I did loose GPS while it was in stand by once and after that I just kept checking it every 20 mins or so. Seemed ok after that. then Exported the track file straight into Google earth at home.
Lots of other usefull functions too, only thing I would say is that it is quite a comprehensive app and I ended up using 2 batteries, in 7 hours.
I am testing some other tracking programs at the moment which are just tracking only. so hopefully lighter on the battery. Reperion05 & WMMiniGPS not actually tracked a walk yet so no info on these yet.
Thanks M8
Thanks a lot for the hint. I will try these two, also.
I hope it works.
I found a feedback that WMMiniGPS on Diamond would not track altitude. For soaring of course thats mandatory information ...
As far as I have more experiments how these two work, I will give additional feedback.
Best regards
Holger
Your welcome bud, I hope you find something that works well for you, I will be looking into the altitude issue as when climing mountains it is also important. I really would like to use GPS Tuner again but think it may be too power hungary for the Diamond battery. I will know more when I have tested the other programs.
Try here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps.html
This is were I got the 2 free apps that I have yet to test.
Rich
So far no success
Hello,
I checked
Reperion05 - I cant get it to work
WMMiniGPS - seems to work without the height :-( ...
CHTi - not getting it saving in GPX or KML format, dont understand the SW
VisualGPSCE cant save GPX or KML
MapWelt (based on etk) - cant find diamond internal GPS
MapNav (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
TrekBuddy (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
Actually Tracky seems to work ok, with BotGPS, but its such an overkill and battery drain ....
A simple and small GPS tracker app would be great ... no fancy design, no maps, only GPS record setup (all X seconds or > xkmh, ...) GPS status, Start, Stop, and directory to save the GPX or KML files ....
I would do it myself if I could .... Is there a free Visual basic development environment for CE with an easy GPS interface ? then I would give it a try ...
Hi Holger,
I use NoniGPSPlot freeware on my Diamond. It works pretty well. To save power NoniGPSPlot provides the option to switch of the display (Options/Tools). If I also switch my phone to flight mode (phone off) the battery survives tracking for about 4h.
You find NoniGPSPlot here --> http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php

hi,
you can try these..
Turbo GPS http://www.turboirc.com/tgps/
My Motion http://users.bigpond.net.au/ian_pendlebury/mymad.htm
Noni Gpsplot http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
Compe GPS Pocket Land http://www.compegps.com/
Pathaway http://www.pathaway.com/PWWinMobile.htm
RunGPS is a really cool app for this. A friend of mine uses it and is really happy with it.
http://www.rungps.net/
You can upload your log files and even compete with others that can follow a route you uploaded or you can download a route from somebody and copmpete against him.
Or you can just follow the same route everytime and see if you improve your performance.
Its great, try it!
thanks for all the answers/links! I will try them out
some of them looks pretty good!
once again, thanks!
Do I have to pay anything for using the gps or downloading the maps with google maps with run.gps?
Rungps license is 25,95 euro. It has very good support. New versions every month. No problem if you switch to another phone. Tracks downloads etc. are free. I've been using the program for quit a long time and it has really great possibilities
I´ve got Run.gps now too but had not enugh time yet to test it.
(Is this grammar right? )
Thx for the Answer.
And I don´t know how to install maps. Maybe I should read the manual at first.
Try...

I use GPS cycle computer for the same purpose you are looking for. I love it, it's a really great app. Most similar apps I've tested where unnecessary huge. But of course, that depends much on personal taste and needs.

Hello
I'm looking for GPS application that will allow me to save to file (or sth) my current position as a GPS dump (the same as VisualGPSce does). I don't mean logging path I'm walking but one particular point.
Can anybody help?
Every moving-map software should be able to do this, it's just setting a waypoint to the current coords. I use Pathaway 5, but there should be free alternatives.
Thx for the answer.
Yes, I know that every navi application can do things like that (it's called POI), but I need something faster, simplier - run, mark (yeah yeah, GPS fix, I know), quit
Have you tried footprints?
