Hello
I'm looking for GPS application that will allow me to save to file (or sth) my current position as a GPS dump (the same as VisualGPSce does). I don't mean logging path I'm walking but one particular point.
Can anybody help?
Every moving-map software should be able to do this, it's just setting a waypoint to the current coords. I use Pathaway 5, but there should be free alternatives.
Thx for the answer.
Yes, I know that every navi application can do things like that (it's called POI), but I need something faster, simplier - run, mark (yeah yeah, GPS fix, I know), quit
Have you tried footprints?

Hi all I am running TomTom 6 on my Spv M700, are there any add on programmes I can use to log a journey. If not I am thinking about buying a GpsBug that will show the route taken on Google Earth Maps.
Many Thanks
there are plenty of apps which do what you want!
try noni gps plot(freeware) or other commercial software like 'Run GPS', 'trackpal'....
they keep a track of variables like speed altitude plus lots more and can be imported to Google earth. just do a Google search for em
I use Miomap3.2 on my trinity and you can log your rounte onto any map you have, this helped me back track a taxi's route that he toke accross Bulgeria so i could get back in a hire car, Perfect! plus its alot smaller than TomTom, Give it a try sometime
You can try TrackMe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667). It does all you want (I think)
I use GPSplot ( http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php )
to track and export to google earth. The site indicates also how to create a google earth background..
i personally use Run GPS, its for training, exercise etc it even handles multiple google maps with zoom function as backgrounds for tracking! you enter your personal info and it calculates how many calories you used etc.. don't know how accurate that is tho!
Thanks for all the replies, I am trying to run a tracking/logging programme while I am running Tom Tom 6. I don't expect to see the log on TomTom but would like to access the route afterwards. The problem I am having is my Orange Spv M700 that has Gps internally will not allow any of the splitter progammes to split the Gps signal between two progarmmes.
i.e. allow Tomtom to run with track me. I can run track me but not have TomTom running at the same time.
Thanks for all your help guys.

check this link out!

Thanks for the reply. Event Logger is not compatible with TomTom Nav 6. I have since managed to split my Gps port and I am trying some of the other programmes suggested.
Again many thanks to everyone.

I suggest you to buy an external data-logger device, like Wintec WBT201.
You can adjust how to log, e.g. every second, all 5 meters and so on. And you trinity donĀ“t have to be on all the time.
After your journey you can sell the wintec.

How exactly did you manage that?
I wanted a Gps logging programme/tool that i could use all the time not for a 1 off journey, I managed to split the port on my M700 by using Gps gate. Unfortunately I purchased a programme called Navio which logs journeys in Nmea format, using this and my tomtom at the same time slowed up my M700. I can use both at the same time using Gps gate but as I have explained everything runs very slow and tomtom locks up now & then.
This is just wishful thinking, but if I put it out there, maybe someone will think up/know a way to make it happen:
Wouldn't it be nice if we had a way to pass a given Contact's address to the GPS app of your choice?
Does anyone think this would be something they could code, or know of an app that can do this? I'm not tied down to a particular GPS application, and would be willing to look at other Contact Management apps as well.
Cheers,

It seems that i was able to do this on my old blackberry with telenav installed so i don tsee why it would be that difficult to do it on a windows smartphone.
I use nav4all which enables me to do this easily. It's ram intensive, but works very well. I have been using it for months, actually and it has some very nice other features, such it's ability to recalculate your route if you take a wrong turn, etc.
Live search will do this
Doesn't TomTom do this ?
Tom Tom does this and I'm pretty sure google maps does this as well
First, a little clarification. I found instructions on here to install to a bigger microSD card and followed them. =)
I installed two programs:
GarminMobileXTforPocketPCwithGPS10_41001wBeta.exe
and
GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42050w.exe
Anyway, what are these? When I try to go to Garmin's site, they have mobile 10, mobile 20, mobile XT, for laptops, for PDAs, etc. What the heck do I even have? How do I stay updated with the latest version (I figure someday they'll fix the time bug that mucks with system time if you don't get a satellite lock)?
Then some other, random stuff (for background, I have a 260W as well);
1. Will XT (or whatever version it is) take custom vehicles like the 260? I created a vehicles folder and put them in there--same procedure as 260--and nothing...
2. Where the heck are the "my locations"? I'd like to keep the 260 and XT somewhat sync'd. (just copy a .gpx file on the 260)
3. on the 260, I can tap the car, and then save that location as a favorite. How do I do that on XT?
4. On XT, I can't seem to modify "my locations". I want to delete garmin europe, but there's no 'edit' button like on the 260. Can't rename either.
5. I tried to load a location on with live.com and it claimed to have done it successfully, but it didn't show up in my locations. I have softstick software that makes my storage card appear as a thumb drive, and I was using that (as the 260 also appears as a thumb drive). Why doesn't that work?
All in all the interfaces are pretty similar, but I was hoping for them to be identical. For instance, when the 260 can't get a satellite lock, it has the option of a demo mode to pretend there is GPS signal--great for setting things up while still inside. aaaah well, I guess. This is my 'play GPS', so it isn't a huge deal.
Anyway, thanks.
bump.
Anybody?
Hello,
I have not been able to find anything about my problems in the search except for the GPSBot which I am currently trying.
I realized problems with simple GPS tracking with Ozi (Version2.19) and Tracky - both registered versions.
Actually I am not that sure anymore, how tracking with Ozi 2.19 has to be performed, because the new design is driving me crazy, but when I realize to do so, it continously stopps tracking without any information or actions from my side. Same with Tracky.
TT7 btw is working absolutely fine. No problems with lost signals or stopping the navigation.
I use Bepe 093.
Any other proposals for a good GPS-tracker (only) ? I would like to have my soaring logs saved somehow as GPX files for further use and to archive. Doesn't matter if Ozi, tracky, or whatever sw to get it.
Any ideas ?
thanks in advance
Best regards
Holger
I used a trial of GPS Tuner the other week which worked well, I tracked a hike up Great Gable in the Lake District, worked good. but I did loose GPS while it was in stand by once and after that I just kept checking it every 20 mins or so. Seemed ok after that. then Exported the track file straight into Google earth at home.
Lots of other usefull functions too, only thing I would say is that it is quite a comprehensive app and I ended up using 2 batteries, in 7 hours.
I am testing some other tracking programs at the moment which are just tracking only. so hopefully lighter on the battery. Reperion05 & WMMiniGPS not actually tracked a walk yet so no info on these yet.
Thanks M8
Thanks a lot for the hint. I will try these two, also.
I hope it works.
I found a feedback that WMMiniGPS on Diamond would not track altitude. For soaring of course thats mandatory information ...
As far as I have more experiments how these two work, I will give additional feedback.
Best regards
Holger
Your welcome bud, I hope you find something that works well for you, I will be looking into the altitude issue as when climing mountains it is also important. I really would like to use GPS Tuner again but think it may be too power hungary for the Diamond battery. I will know more when I have tested the other programs.
Try here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps.html
This is were I got the 2 free apps that I have yet to test.
Rich
So far no success
Hello,
I checked
Reperion05 - I cant get it to work
WMMiniGPS - seems to work without the height :-( ...
CHTi - not getting it saving in GPX or KML format, dont understand the SW
VisualGPSCE cant save GPX or KML
MapWelt (based on etk) - cant find diamond internal GPS
MapNav (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
TrekBuddy (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
Actually Tracky seems to work ok, with BotGPS, but its such an overkill and battery drain ....
A simple and small GPS tracker app would be great ... no fancy design, no maps, only GPS record setup (all X seconds or > xkmh, ...) GPS status, Start, Stop, and directory to save the GPX or KML files ....
I would do it myself if I could .... Is there a free Visual basic development environment for CE with an easy GPS interface ? then I would give it a try ...
Hi Holger,
I use NoniGPSPlot freeware on my Diamond. It works pretty well. To save power NoniGPSPlot provides the option to switch of the display (Options/Tools). If I also switch my phone to flight mode (phone off) the battery survives tracking for about 4h.
You find NoniGPSPlot here --> http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
Hi
I always see a "GPS tool", "quick GPS" and all these stock apps in every cooked or stock roms, and i don't really know what are they for....
QuickGPS is actually a very useful utility. Use it to download up-to-date files to speed up acquisition times.
They were useful as hell on devices with POS GPS. I'm looking at you TP1 & 2.
can you guys give me some examples of which apps will work with quick GPS???
Presumably it's any app that uses GPS managed by Windows. This is a wild, uneducated guess, but I think Windows manages most of the GPS functions, and would factor in AGPS and Quickgps for whatever program calling on it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Quick GPS informs the interface where to search and lock into GPS-sats. It is updated every 6 days.
It has nothing to do with any program using the GPS receiver it just helps the receiver to lock in as quick as possible.
