Link to GPS app from Contact List? - Mogul, XV6800 General

This is just wishful thinking, but if I put it out there, maybe someone will think up/know a way to make it happen:
Wouldn't it be nice if we had a way to pass a given Contact's address to the GPS app of your choice?
Does anyone think this would be something they could code, or know of an app that can do this? I'm not tied down to a particular GPS application, and would be willing to look at other Contact Management apps as well.
Cheers,
Magus1972

It seems that i was able to do this on my old blackberry with telenav installed so i don tsee why it would be that difficult to do it on a windows smartphone.

I use nav4all which enables me to do this easily. It's ram intensive, but works very well. I have been using it for months, actually and it has some very nice other features, such it's ability to recalculate your route if you take a wrong turn, etc.

Live search will do this

Doesn't TomTom do this ?

Tom Tom does this and I'm pretty sure google maps does this as well

Google maps as gps and tracker

Hello friends...
so exist googlemaps api and stuff... many people knows how to use it (not me =/) so i was thinking.. would some one make one program that do something like this:
http://www.nseries.com/index.html?l...diaries#l=campaigns,n82,urbanistadiaries,home
i mean, every now and then you upload the position of your mobile google maps and it tracks your path thru the world....
something like this .....you want the basic version which is free. and a little How-to here
there is also trackme, produced by the good folk here that does the same thing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667
Thank you guys...im giving a try in each one...
just a last question... i was hopping that any of theese programs use the google maps triangulation position for localization... this happens?
i dont have a gps system.... =/

GPS

Just out of curiosity, does the herald have a built in GPS? is it possible to unlock it to use a GPS prgoram Like HTC GPS Tool?
Also Is there a way to get Voice command to work through a blue tooth headset, IE talk and listen through it?
There isnt a build in GPS on the Hearld, you can use an external one or Google Maps has a triangulation system which may or may not be very accurate
Is that a mod/app/rom or a website? Anyidea where I can find it? I've searched for "google" and "maps" but as you can imagine thats turned up quite a but of useless information.
http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps/index.html
Its a program that you download from Google. Kinda like Google earth but for ppc and its more map organized instead of roaming the world.
Awesome, thanks for the help on that oned =]
YW, Glad to help
Just my quick 2 cents. I use Google maps and it works good. I put in the address and it gets me where I need to go pretty close. And for a free app, you can't beat that.

Turbo GPS http://www.turboirc.com/tgps/
My Motion http://users.bigpond.net.au/ian_pendlebury/mymad.htm
Noni Gpsplot http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
Compe GPS Pocket Land http://www.compegps.com/
Pathaway http://www.pathaway.com/PWWinMobile.htm
RunGPS is a really cool app for this. A friend of mine uses it and is really happy with it.
http://www.rungps.net/
You can upload your log files and even compete with others that can follow a route you uploaded or you can download a route from somebody and copmpete against him.
Or you can just follow the same route everytime and see if you improve your performance.
Its great, try it!
thanks for all the answers/links! I will try them out
some of them looks pretty good!
once again, thanks!
Do I have to pay anything for using the gps or downloading the maps with google maps with run.gps?
Rungps license is 25,95 euro. It has very good support. New versions every month. No problem if you switch to another phone. Tracks downloads etc. are free. I've been using the program for quit a long time and it has really great possibilities
I´ve got Run.gps now too but had not enugh time yet to test it.
(Is this grammar right? )
Thx for the Answer.
And I don´t know how to install maps. Maybe I should read the manual at first.
Try...

I use GPS cycle computer for the same purpose you are looking for. I love it, it's a really great app. Most similar apps I've tested where unnecessary huge. But of course, that depends much on personal taste and needs.

Global Navigator (Google) - Anyone on HD2?

Hi guys, since I use the GPS with the motorbike, I'm looking for a software that has a good PC planning tool in order to easily plan routes and waypoints.
The best I've found to date is Garmin with its MapSource... BUT ...I came across the Google GPS, which, obviously, with Google Earth, Maps, etc., would be even better than MapSource.
So, here the question: anybody with experience?
- Bugs?
- Lags?
Thanks a lot in advance.
I don't know if using Google GPS to plan a route would make any difference to this, but Google downloads chunks of maps, as and when it needs them. If this wasn't done before the journey, you may end up following a dot on a screen full of "please wait" images.
I'd make sure about this before even trying it, to be honest.
I do agree with you, but, since my biggest need is the PLANNING, I would need to download the maps first anyway, as required by the Garmin.
I've just checked the CoPilot site, and it mentions pre-trip planning on the feature page...
http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/features.asp
Looks like I'm gonna recommend you try CoPilot, which comes as a 14 day trial on the HD2.

Map Program that runs from the SD Card.

I'm looking for a Map program that runs from my SD Card so that I don't have to wait for the maps to load.
Is this possible for googles maps?
What programs can do this? will they have location/GPS.. and/or touch zoom for the screen?
Let me know.. I'm looking for something badly (and I'm not familiar where to look/find programs like these). If GoogleMaps can.. then I'd be satisfied with that.. but if you've got something better... get it to me..

CoPilot runs fromt he SD card, but that's a $30 navigation program, not just mapping.
Is there any GPS programs that we can get for free?
I do lots of traveling sometimes in areas that have very limited or no cell service so programs like MS Bing and Google Maps don't work here. I eventually settled on Navigon which stores a completes set of US maps on the SD card and will work regardless of cellular coverage. It works really well and turns the HD2 into what you would expect from a dedicated gps unit. Only downside is the cost, it's $90 but then again you get what you pay for.
somebody's gotta have a hacked copy of one of these programs, or have developed one themselves.. all I was is what THOMPSD is talking about.. a map app (or program) that will run when I DON'T GET ANY SERVICE..
I travel a lot also, so I need something, but I'm not going to pay $90.. I'd just buy a GPS for that..
EDIT... error

This is not a warez board. Copilot is $30. Since google is apparently to much for you to handle two other options are Navicomputer and Opensteetmaps both available on XDA when you bother to do a search.

you don't have to be condescending. I obviously don't have as much experience or "know how" as a lot of you guys, hence the reason for my questions.
I don't see why I would need to buy a program to get maps installed on my SD Card so that I can view them instantly (without loading them from a network)... also, I didn't know what "warez" was (but I just googled it to make you happy).
I guess what I really would like, would be to have googles maps PRE-LOADED on my SD. I just want to be able to find my location if I'm out of cell service (or whatever provides the data used to load google maps).
Thank you guys so far for your recommendations. any other info, etc will be greatly appreciated.

Both of the apps famewolf mentioned above will come very close to that (and are free), they just use a different map source. The second one he mentioned is actually called OpenMobileMaps, but it does use the OpenStreetMap.org's database. Here's the link for that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597957
Now, I googled "caching google maps" (on the full 'net, not just xda), and the 3rd link that came up was this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351001
I have no idea if it'll work on the HD2, but I think it's the closest possiblity available to exactly what you're looking for.
Also note that if you want stuff for free, you're going to have to do a little work. You will not find the easy installed, easy setup, works perfectly and exactly as you'd like it too apps that you can "sometimes" find in payware apps. With free apps, the more complex the app, the more fiddling and setup you'll have to do on your own.

My tone was sharp because you started out by asking for "hacked versions of these programs" and not for freeware/shareware. It's also generally considered polite to do a search via XDA first before requesting aid...you get even more help if you say "I did a search and found blah blah and blah but they are not giving me exactly what I'm looking for...anyone have more suggestions".
Another alternative that might work for you, but only if other folks are submitting map updates in your area is http://www.waze.com/
"Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road.
100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. "
Garmin Mobile Xt runs nicely from the 16gb card that came with my HD2. Preloaded the North American Map onto it and even some other bluecharts, hiking maps and a couple of EU cities.
Mobile XT uses the AGPS chip in the HD2 and picks up satellites fast. It stays connected farly well. Only thing it won't do is speak street names.

I'm not new to XDA or PPC, but new to GPS software, jargon, and usage. So forgive me noob question, but I've been reading for days and still a little confused. Features and limitations and jargon on all these sites gets overwhelming. Basically, I'm looking for a GPS software that runs from SD as well, but with 3 more important features/questions:
1. turn-by-turn voice navigation for car use
2. load offline topography maps for hiking, maybe even geocaching/tracking w/altitude, speed, distance, etc.
3. search engine or preloaded POI searching
I understand iGo, TomTom, CoPilot do the car nav and I understand Navicomputer, OpenMobileMaps, and Litetrack do the offline maps and geocaching, but is their an app that does both. I think from the above post z3Bum stated Garmin XT does this so i'm wondering if I missed the big picture and all the 3rd party GPS apps have ability to view and load offline apps and maybe even have geocaching and tracking with all the distance, altitude, etc. goodies. And if so, do the 3rd party apps allow you to load only their maps (if they have them) or can you use maps from other sources?
Do I have to use 3 different apps to achive this (Google Maps = search, TomTom = voice turn-by-turn, NaviComputer = offline geocaching/tracking) or can I do all this with one app? I've been reading and learning for hours and a couple of days now, so I might just be burnt out and everything jumbled, so I apologize if this is an dumb question, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks and hopefully I have not taken post to far off topic.
Edit: got Garmin Mobile XT and it does everything I need it to do. Had to use a little workaround found on XDA to allow me to view multiple maps with Mobile Xt (city nav maps + topo maps) and now I'm happy as can be.
