I have a Bell HTC Touch/Vogue. Currently running android in NAND, which has been fine for several weeks now.
My battery was low, and the phone turned itself off.
Now it won't turn on.
What I've tried:
- Power button
- Pull the battery, wait 20 minutes, put battery back in
- 2 different (and tested with a multimeter to have a charge) batteries
- Send+End+Reset
- Reset+Power
None of those makes it do anything.
No lights come on if I plug it into USB. Computer doesn't detect it at all.
The only light I can get to come on is the red led, if I plug it into USB without the battery connected.
This happened once before, and it eventually turned back on. But so far, it's not working this time.
Is it just an expensive paperweight now? Any ideas on what else I can try? I've searched, but come up with nothing I haven't already tried.
Well, tech support from Bell basically says I'm screwed.
Phone is out of warranty.
You can't get this plan (the $10 unlimited internet) on any other phone.
You can't get this phone anymore.
I don't have any upgrade credits for 2 more months and they won't give them to me early.
Best they can do is give me free voicemail and caller id ($12) on the $50 data/voice plan...if I buy a new phone outright.
$180 to get out of my contract.
I think it would actually be cheaper to buy my way out of the contract and get a new 3 year contract and a free/cheap phone.
That is, unless some miracle worker here can help me fix this one!
If I do get a new phone, any recommendations from Bell or Telus? I'd like an android phone.
ebay?
they can be pretty cheap, way less than $180 and keep the $10 plan.
If I get one from ebay, I can activate it and keep my plan, right?
As long as it's originally from Bell?

Yes, and you can get one for about $80-$100 and in good shape too!
I ended up talking to Bell customer loyalty department. I was dead set on canceling my contract and going to Telus.
But they convinced me with:
- their $50 data plan plus free caller id and voicemail for 3 years.
- giving me my upgrade credits now, so I got a Motorola Dext for $179 (on another 3yr contract).
Worked out cheaper than getting out of the contract. Plus I get to be rid of the touch. I'm sick of that phone.

What do you plan to do with the Vogue? I could certainly use it for spares if you are simply gonna throw it away.
There is private data on there. Bank passwords and such.
Since I have no way of wiping it, I'm not sure what I'm doing with it.
I suppose I could take it apart and send you everything but the mainboard, but that seems like a lot of effort!

That's ok, I really only wanted the back cover, battery and stylus.

I am strongly leaning on getting a T-Mobile Wing as opposed to a 8525, but I just have a few questions first.
1) You have to pay for 3G service correct? (I know that T-Mobile doesn't have 3G yet). I have heard of 3G sim cards. Is this like a PRE-PAID 3G service card, where I have fast internet access? Or is this JUST a regular sim card with the ability to have 3G service, with a monthly payment plan.
Is there such thing as a pre-paid 3G service card? (If so, I may be getting the 8525 instead). I mainly want to use wifi, but if I can get 3G via PRE-PAY/FREE then that would be good.
2) Is there a good strong wifi connection on the Wing? I heard the Wing has trouble connecting through wifi.
3) Why do people say there are troubles with the Wing running slowly? Is this because of the processor or because of the memory? But doesn't the Wing have the same amount of memory as the 8525?
Is there a way to decrease/eliminate the memory problems on the Wing?? I have heard of people installing certain roms to help with the memory problem.
4) The Wing has Push-to-talk right? So this means I will be notified when I get new emails/ messages in "real-time" correct?
5) Is the head jack a 2.5mm or is it embedded in the mini-USB??
These are some of my main questions. I am really contemplating on buying the Wing (or 8525). Could I get any quick advice as to what should I expect when I do buy it? Is there a preferred rom that I should install?
Should I get the Wing or 8525?? (On looks and feel DEFINITELY the Wing). I mainly want to use if for internet, Office suite, listening to music, and some games.
1. Not sure, someone smarter than me will have to answer that one.
2. I have never had any problems finding or connecting to a signal. Might just be the area I am in, but I have a good strong signal. Most of the time, I connect to the tmo gprs.
3. Out of the box, the wing tmo Rom is terrible. It has a horrible memory leak and runs very slowly. Multiple resets a day. If you look around the forums, there are a lot of different ROM's that can be flashed to your wing. These ROM's are cooked to speed up and make your wing more stable. There are a lot of good cooks now, and more up and coming. Also the ROM's get rid of all of the crap that tmo puts on the phone and adds some really cool apps.
4. By push to talk, I assume you mean voice command. Not sure about the tmo ROM, but there are a couple of different apps that you can install to get your voice command to work properly. Yes you are notified in real time about SMS/MMS, and email, if you set them up correctly.
5. mini-usb.
hey thanks for your response!
I guess I might as well go for the Wing (instead of 8525). I know the 8525 has the performance, but it doesn't have the looks, feel, spring-loaded keyboard, soft rubbery keys, and size.
If anyone else wants to comment I would greatly appreciate the input.

Ok, so I tried that and here's what happened..
I called the number you gave and I had to call another number instead. That was fine. If I can save over $200 doing all this, it's worth it. I eventually got in touch with the person I needed who delt with promotional codes and all that. I gave her my information and eventually the "Windows Mobile" promo code. She came back and told me the code was accepted and it worked. It was unusal though because she said every other time she's delt with a promo code, they come denied, but they DO work. In my case, it was accepted and she wasn't sure whether or not it would actually work for me.
It's kinda ****ty because I went through all this to get it for one reason. To save over $200 and not have to go to the store eventually and get this. I'm saving up for a down payment on a car at the moment and that's the reason I haven't went and got a Wing yet like I want to. But who can pass up on a deal like this? So it came to like $370-something for the phone and activation.. whatever else. If the promo ends up working, she said the money could be credited to my account.
Thing is, you have like 20 days to return the phone. Or I could refuse the package when it comes to my house and i'd be given a refund. Do I really wanna take the chance and keep the phone to see what my first bill is gonna look like? What if the promo code didn't work? Then i'm stuck with a $400 loss I don't want to take right now because I need the money for the reason I stated above. Or I could always wait for the bill and if it didn't work, I could call back and ***** to them and say the CSR said the promo code worked and it didn't take effect for me.
I'm not sure at this point, heh.

Well yeah, i'm paying the $300 + dollars for the phone AND activation. Once I get the phone in a couple days, i'm gonna call tmobile and tell them about what happened. The promo code got accepted, so I wanna know if i'm gonna be refunded my money and get the promo price/deal. If so, i'll stay with tmobile. If not, i'll send the phone back. From what I hear, tmobile has great customer service. So hopefully they do and they help me out or i'll just send the phone back. I took advantage of the promo offer because I wanted to save money and get a great deal. If I wanted to spend the $300 and something dollars, I would have went to the store and got a phone THAT day.
I got my wing with this promotion. it's $99 but $50 after mail in rebate. you have to order a data plan for the rebate plus you get a free bluetooth headset. it only comes up to more if you have to get a flex plan meaning your credit was kinda jacked so they want you to pay for your bill up front. either way it's a good as deal. anybody need the info on it just pm me.
I want to sell my EVO for an EPIC, but how do I go about doing so? If I can get $450 for mine + accessories on craigslist or something, then I would be left without a phone. As far as I can tell there are no cheap Sprint pay as you go phones to buy in the interim period of selling the EVO and buying the EPIC. I could go a day or two, but I don't want to sell my phone, then have to wait a week because they are all sold out. Any ideas?

If you absolutely do not have the money for the Epic, I don't know what to tell you.
I'm buying my reserved Epic on Tuesday. If I love it as much as I think I will, I'll begin to get my EVO ready for selling and take it to ebay. Seems like they're selling for an AVERAGE of $400 there.
I think a lot of folks are planning the same.
My local Craigslist is flooded with people trying to sell Evos.
Sell on ebay. Craigslist can be faster/cleaner because you don't deal with paypal/ebay fees.
But a good listing on ebay (Clear high quality pictures, in depth description, and adding in some extras) can add up to $100 bucks to what you would normally make.
I just sold my Nexus One for $540 on ebay. But yes, i've been phoneless since the 24th. And let me tell you its HORRIBLE.
I'd recommend buying a T-Mobile prepaid phone, putting $100 on the account, and saving it for situations where you need it/where you wouldn't take your good phone. Whenever I'm between phones, I can always fall back onto my T-Mobile SIM.
Put $100 into the account, get "gold rewards status". Minutes of any amount now last for 1 year without expiring. Add $5 in minutes annually/as needed. Enjoy the existence of an emergency line you can fall back on.

I sold my evo this past week for $450 on my local craigslist. Since then, I have been using my friend's old blackberry curve.
I've seen some htc heros on my local craigslist for $125 to $150 in mint (or even new) condition. If I didn't have this blackberry to use until tuesday, I would have bought one of the heros off craigslist and resold it for what I paid.
How are you going to sell it when the esn is on your account?
Grab a ****ty sprint phone off ebay for $5 plus shipping and esn swap that to your account, sell your EVO and pay cash for your epic. Should only be $100 or so net cost to you and that is better than paying an ETF and buying the epic on contract again.

cant you buy the epic on a credit card, sell your phone either through ebay or craigslist and pay off the credit card.
I just sold my Evo for 550 on Ebay with a lot of accessories, so yeah, I'm buying that sucker CASH! I really liked the Evo, its just that I really need the physical keyboard.

Back when I was transitioning from sprint to t-mobile, I pretty much used that system to protect my sprint phone. When I was expecting to thrash it, I always turned off my sprint phone and used call fowarding for the tmo number. But everywhere that situation presented itself, I barely got any service from the tmobile phone. In all honesty, youll be better off investing in a cheap sprint phone and switching your esn through the account settings than dealing with their tmobile's network
My wife went from the Iphone 3G to the Focus about 2 or so weeks back.... a few days after the new windows phones were released. I myself have a tilt 2 but was ready for an upgrade. We went in to look at the new phones and at that time they didnt know about the BOGO offer that was coming up for Black friday (and presumably running through out the holidays). She went ahead and got her phone. Today we went in and asked if we could still get the free phone. As she was still in the 30 day grace period we figured it wouldn't be an issue. Sure enough.... a quick call to the manager and I had the phone in my hand. The only extra I paid for was the Zag Shield.
I'm not sure WHAT had to be done to get it. Whether you needed to add another line etc but since we already had 4 lines on our family plan we had decided to add my mom on for her Christmas. We told him we wanted to add a new line as well although he didnt actually tie the new Focus to that new line, and it didnt get tied to my number yet either. I'm not sure but I do think you need to start a new line (which luckily enough we already planned on doing) to get the BOBO deal with AT&T. He seemed to imply I could get it for free too by using my upgrade status which was also open from the original purchase of the Fuze 2 years ago.
I figure if in the new year they release some newer cooler phones (ie one with the same size screen but has a keyboard) I'll use my upgrade for that and sell the Focus off.
So anyone who did get their focus (or any other windows phone for that matter) early and wants to go in to get their free phone go and and schmooze and you'll be walking out with the second phone in your hand!
Good Luck!
Windows Phone Buy One Get One Free | Windows Phone 7
confirmed by an att rep.... if youre within the 30 day period and are eligible or you add a line, they will restock your phone and resell it to you and you get the new one... just a restock fee, but well worth the free phone.... did mine this eve, took 10 min to get it done... good deal on a solid set of phones...
Good for you guys!!
I'm stuck so no deals for me since I'm not in the upgrade timeframe. Unless someone wants to sell thier free Focus for a nice holiday discount?
I had bought 2 focuses (foci?) at 2 seperate ATT stores about a week apart from each other. I went to one store and got the money credited back to my credit card. I then received a call from the second store and they told me they would credit the account the amount of one of the phones since they noticed I had bought 2 phones within a week of each other.
If someone wants to sell the one he got for free at a fair price, please let me know

That's fairly similar as to how I got my fuze... they had some promo going on and they had a programming glitch where you could put the coupon on multiple times... which I did. I got that phone for free. A year later when I got my tilt 2 my wife got it for 100 dollars upfront and then AT&T sent me a $50.00 visa gift card, so really the phone was 50 dollars. HTC at the time had this promo where they would accept ANY smart phone trade in when you bought a tilt 2 and they'd pay you 100 dollars. I sent in my HTC Vouge and they gave me 100 dollars... so really I got paid 50 dollars for getting a new phone.
Then once this promo came along, well suffice to say my wife just rolled her eyes... yet another free phone
Does this only work if you purchased it at a real AT&T store? I bought my focus at a 'CellularWorld' about 15 days ago.

I am just guessing that you cant get another one for free if you purchased it off contract...IS it only with a new line or contract to get the free phone?
I've contacted AT&T about this. You MUST get a new line OR upgrade an existing line that is eligible for upgrade. Since I want to give the free phone to my dad, they did say 2 things that kept my interest though:
they can be flexible on 'eligibility'
I can transfer the phone to my dad's account, as long as he's eligible and an existing AT&T subscriber
One other thing - gotta do it within the 30 day grace period.
How much each store follows these rules, of course, would depend on the store

Correct. Two-year contract and data plan are required on both lines. AT&T makes minimum $600 ($15 data + $10 add a line = $25/mo minimum) over two year period off you per phone. That's how they can afford to give you one for free.
I'm planning to upgrade my phone n get me a Focus, since it's BOGO deal right now. I'm wondering if this plan will work or not. Currently Im in a family plan and my dad is able to upgrade his phone too and planing to give the 2nd phone to him. however, since he's a tech noob im going to go head take the phone, but cancel his data plan so he can use his old phone. Then just sell the 2nd phone. do you think AT&T will allow me to do this, since my dad would not use the Focus.
My sister had done this before, she got an iPhone n hate it. So she use her old phone, canceled the data plan and sell her iphone on eBay.

I didn't even have to go through that much hassle. I told them I'd bought the first one in the last 30 days and they gave me a second one for free. They did charge an $18 upgrade fee on the line I upgraded but they didn't make me go through any "resell" or "restock" ordeal. They just put in a promo code for it and gave it to me.
Amazon is selling the phones for $.01 with a 2 yr plan.
For 2 qualified plans, that's a whopping $.02. Just a tad better than AT&T's BOGO deal.

Take a look at the fine print for things like the early termination fee. Don't fool yourself into thinking that Amazon is only making $.01 on the phone.
yep not only do you get dinged with an early termination fee from ATT but one from Amazon as well... I think Amazon's is bigger then ATT's actually. Not to mention I believe you only get that on new lines.... not ones you are adding onto an existing family plan. I could be wrong here.
A refurbished Atrix is $99. Saving $100 is good. But is it riskier? Refurbished phones are just phones people return within 30-days because they don't like them, right? So I'd have to be pretty unlucky to get a dud, right? I'm just trying to verify my logic here.
Also, I'm planning to upgrade to an Atrix through my mom's line, then I'll just put my SIM into the phone and she'll keep her phone. Will this work? Or do you need some new SIM card for HSPA+ phones? My SIM is more than two years old.
Id say do it, even if you get a dud, you can go and swap it out
regarding the sim, i think you will have to change it, because most were getting a new sim with the atrix, it shouldnt be a problem tho.
Costco. IIRC, they have it at that price, or near it, and give a better warranty/return policy. And a free car charger and p.o.s. pouch holder thing....
I know that isn't really responsive to the post, but I hate to see people waste money.
And a new sim is not necessary.

I buy a lot of refurbed electronics and to this day they all still work flawlessly. Check amazon, Got mine for 150 there brand spanking new. Regarding the sim-You will get a new sim with the phone and Att is very lenient about upgrades. My bro used my mothers upgrade to get an atrix so he could get rid of his iphone 4. He had unlimited data on his line and my mother did not have a data plan. they allowed him to use her upgrade and still attach it too his line with unlimited data. The atrix is a flagship device, they are willing to work with you. I recommend going to an actual store, makes the process easier.
Edit: They did however say it was necessary to used the new sim. I tried the one from my blackberry and it worked fine but, Att insisted i used the new sim. Might as well use the new one, doesnt make the process any harder. The sim is slightly different than older ones.
It's 99 at Radio Shack new. They we're running a deal for lapdock with purchase, but unsure of that n e more.
[Edit] agree with above post. Sim is no extra, at least at radio shack, and just just enter the sim 8901new bla bla number instead of your old 8901 sim number into att portal. Not trolling but one of my jobs is radio shack. Got the atrix n lapdock outright for 700 and unlimited everything for 20 a month so if u know anyone who works there the price is probably even lower =D

There are SIMs that don't support HSPA+. They are pretty old though. It's best just to get a new SIM rather than worry about it. They are free with each new phone anyway. At&t doesn't have any LTE tech out there yet, even SIMS chips.
Keep in mind that refurb phones only carry a 90 day warranty as well.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
It definitely wouldn't hurt to get a new free sim. Mine was a year and a half old and had been in an iphone and nexus one... I'm about 90% sure that for some reason I was having some data connectivity issues because of it. At least, customer support said to replace it and the issue magically went any.
Besides, no real reason not to get a new one.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I just had a "duh" moment. SIM cards are blank until you activate them. So even though I'll order the phone through my mom's upgrade, I can just activate the new SIM on my line. Duh. Never mind that question.
Both Radioshack and Amazon are offering the phone for $149 new. I think I'll go through Amazon just because I like Amazon.
Thanks for the replies, guys! Is there anything else I should keep in mind?

EDIT: Nevermind, just checked the Radioshack site. It'd be $269.99 for me. Wow.
A refurbed "anything" may have just been returned because someone didn't like it, or because it wasn't working. Either way it is supposed to get completely tested, repaired if necessary, and confirmed 100% working before it goes back out. So if a company is doing this properly you get a 100% tested and working phone. Except...
The new phone usually has a one year warranty, the refurb sometimes only 30 days. What's a warranty worth?
And no one will answer if you ask them whther you're getting an old used battery, or a new one, in a refurbed phone.
A refurb can be a bargain is there's some warranty and the price is right.
But if you buy the phone on your Mom's account, remember that price is usually only good if the phone is activated on her account, with a data plan, within 30? days. And she's going to keep paying that plan+data rate even if she stops using the phone. And contract renewal, if they require one.
Now when you put your SIM in the phone, AT&T will also charge you a smartphone rate, once they recognize the phone. You may or may not already be paying this, but they don't support all plans for all phones, so they may change your plan.

Considering I can get it for only $149 new, I'd say the much longer warranty is woth the extra cost. And brand new is brand new.
My mom has an iPhone 3GS, so she already has data; that won't be a surprise. Of course, me using her upgrade will throw out her unlimited data. But she hardly uses 100MB a month anyway; it'll actually save her money. I'll then get a DataPro 2GB plan on my line for the Atrix.
But are you saying that she'll have to actually use the Atrix on her line for the upgrade price to remain valid? I hope not. I thought that once you have the phone in your hand, you can do with it whatever you want.
I would agree that the longer warranty is well worth the additional vost.
You can activate the phone on your line using her upgrade. Also, she does not need to lose her unlimited data and you can get it for yourself if you have access to an iphone 2g.
"But are you saying that she'll have to actually use the Atrix on her line for the upgrade price to remain valid?"
I don't think they care is she uses it, but they will make her pay whatever the "Atrix plan price" is, i.e. a minimum data plan and possibly a minimum minute plan as well. IF she's already paying the "Atrix rates" they won't care.
That's what I've been given to understand, but your mileage with AT&T apparently varies with whoever actually activates things. One rep said I couldn't keep my old misers' voice plan I'd have to upgrade, another one said "You're good to go" with no changes. Either the reps are inept, FOS, or just plain nuts.
All you can do is do the upgrade in person, ask the rep about any rate/plan changes, and see what happens.

Check best buy they had it for 99$. You can use your mom's upgrade and then switch the phones around by calling customer service, you wont loose unlimited data. I just did this same thing

Whoa, thanks for the heads up! Best Buy still has it for $99.
Honestly, I don't really care about keeping unlimited data. My mom doesn't need it, I never had it, and I have no access to a 1st Gen iPhone. Whatever happens with that happens.
I think I'm set for information.
well, I just found a good deal at Verizon store, so I'm thinking to get one.
anyway, I haven't see the Verizon Xperia Play can use on Sprint (yet) ?
and the SIM card slot in R800x, is this phone a world phone?
thanks
oh, some might interesting in about the deal.
the phone without contract is about $600 or something like that.
but Verizon offers a tricky discount, sign up their month to month $30 mobile broadband service, then the phone drop to less than $300.
and after a month, the service can cut off, I might gonna keep it, because I can use VoIP(Google voice or whatever) app via their 3G, and for my regular phone, I'm gonna get one of mine "one charge lasts 3 days" phone out.
maybe not cheap enough, but I think its alright

lolwut???
Nothing in your post makes sense to me..
Retail price of the device from a Verizon wireless store is $449.99
2 year contract price is $99.99 online and $149.99 in a store with a $50 mail in rebate.
As soon as we (Verizon Wireless Sales Representatives) scan a smart phone into the system the minimum $30 data plan automatically gets added onto the account and part of the contract is when you have a smart phone on the account you have to pay the minimum of the $30 a month for the 2GB of data. You do not have the option to keep the phone on the account without being charged that data.
As for the other option for it being put on Sprint. Last I knew Verizon and Sprint like to keep tabs of every ESN/MEID that they have on file since it is the phone that is being activated and not a simcard. So as for it being activated onto sprint you would have to re flash the phone with a working Sprint ROM but if you want to do this the phone has to be rooted which is not available yet for the R800x and the phone has th have a cooked ROM with the Sprint activation permissions installed into it.
So lets say for instance you go into the store, you sign up for the 2 year contract, thats $150 that you had to put out. Then along with that you get an activation fee and a first months bill, activation fee is $35, Minimum your bill could be with 450 minutes, unl text and 2gb data is $90 before tax,
So far you are at $150 + $90 + $35 = $275
ETF for cancelling a contract with a smart phone is $350.
$275 + $350 = $625.00 not including taxes
So... to do your plan you can either spend $600+ to do it your round about way or just $450 from VZW themselves.
Answer any questions?
