What kind of tethering gives the fastest connection? - EVO 4G General

Not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but I have no idea...
What will give the fastest connection to my laptop to run off of?
Wifi?
Bluetooth?
USB?

The least energy consuming AND fastest would be USB. A wired connection is almost always faster than wireless and in this case uses less power (though your phone will probably start charging off your laptop)

From my experience: USB first, Wifi second, Bluetooth last. I always prefer USB tethering if possible not just for the speed but because it didn't deplete my battery.

i agree.. USB->Wifi->BT.
with the added benefit that USB won't heat up your phone+battery like the other two.

Is there a y-cable for separate charging and syncing?

Hello forum,
After researching it for a while, I'm curious if anybody knows if there exists a "Y-cable" to enable charging and syncing at the same time but with 2 separate cables.
I really annoys me to start and stop charging from my PC everytime I connect/disconnect the usb cable. So, what I want to do is to have the wall-charger connected charging the phone in a constant manner, but at the same time to be able to connect to the PC and experiment with whatever I want to to there! Even rebooting the PC can cause the charging to restart, so I want to eliminate this behavior.
Can the normal HTC Y-cable for charging/syncing + headphones be used for this job?
p.s. Enabling the "Do not charge while connected" Power Settings option is not what I want to do. I DO want to charge the phone AND have it connected to the PC.

I don't believe there is a cable for the purpose you want. However, you can use Activesync over bluetooht and accomplish the same thing.
This might work. It provides power for Seidio desktop cradles but in theory it should work without the cradle.

The USB cable will go from the computer to this device and the other cable will go out the other side into your phone.
I do the same thing charge my Tilt and can remove my USB cable or leave it charging if I turn my laptop off.

On note the end of the USB is a male USB port and you need to change it to a mini-male port.
This looks like the one I picked up.

fello posters,
thank you for your responses!!
The bluetooth option is more elegant, but as it is software dependant (BT stacks) I feel almost certain that I'll run into problems.
On the other hand, the Seido option seems to be the one that feels more "natural" and will do the job. I'll look more into that...
Again, thanks for the responses

[Q] VZAccess

Does anybody know if there is an app for the GT10 to use a USB Cellular Verizon Card with it?
I'm going to find myself a GT10 today at Best Buy, since I'm an OTR guy this summer. I'm hearing rumor but cannot confirm that you can get Verizon network access without a contract for $20/mo, which would be perfect for what I need, but the Verizon USB card I have is provided by work, so I'd rather use it for the time being, since I won't need it come August.
Thanks for any information you may have.
Is the cell card a wifi hotspot? Because there isn't a USB port on the Tab, and the USB adapter isn't available yet (but I don't think it would work with that either)
There's no USB port on the GT10? Is it mini-usb or something?
It has a proprietary Samsung 30 pin connector and that's it.

That kind of sucks, but there has to be SOME sort of adapter coming soon....
There is a USB adapter coming, but like I said, I don't think it will allow the connection of a USB modem. It's meant more for connecting peripherals (cameras, keyboards, mice) and external storage (HDs, thumb drives)

Well, its gotta have power running to it at least. Surely someone will figure it out. Course... I could always just do the silly thing, run my laptop at minimum voltage off of the AC Adapter in my car so that I can use the wireless signal through ad hoc. Sounds like an awful lot to go through for the same effect, and I'd have to log back in every time the signal died on the road. What a pain.
Maybe I'll just see about the non-contract $20/mo thing if it still exists.
Why not just buy a Cradlepoint portable 3G router that accepts cellular USB modems instead, like the CTR35 or PHS300? Only $79. Plug in your work provided USB 3G stick and it turns into a wifi hotspot.

I'm having the same problem. The only thing that works is to unplug the device for a minute and plug it back in. I still looking for a permanent fix. Perhaps it is overheating or the antenna sucks. I'm thinking about opening mine up to take a look...
Not sure if this helps: I was able to kill the wifi by placing my hand over the android icon on the case for a few seconds (I did it a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke). It seems as though the wifi never reconnects after a drop and I have to restart the device to get it back.
More info: I have been powering the device from an empty usb port on the TV. If I use the included adapter, it seems to be a little bit less flaky. For example, I can cover the device with my hand and it wont kill the wifi.
ok thanks i will buy a new one MK809II this one worked only 1 day:crying:

I have a mk809 bought from Justop. I used an old mobile phone charger that outputs 1A. This is the absolute minimum as you should use a 2A power supply. I only use the USB port for a wireless dongle for my perixx keyboard/mouse.
A USB port from a TV will not provide the full 2A power supply - at best you'll get 1A but, more likely, less than that.
For all the others out there having strange behaviour and/or reboots/wifi drops etc have a look at the power output of your power supply and make sure you are giving it a reliable 2A.
A lot of problems with Android sticks have been solved this way.
Hope this is useful to someone!
ok but i only use the usb power that came with the mk809 , i am thinking of trying a wifi wireless usb dongle, do you know which one will work

USB or Bluetooth tethering for best battery life?

I have an Android car stereo that I can tether using WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB.
WiFi uses a ton of battery so that option is out.
What about Bluetooth versus USB?
Bluetooth uses the least battery, and I can connect it to a car charger allowing the phone to charge at a full 1A (or 2A?) maximum.
USB uses a bit less battery, but I must plug it into the stereo so it will only charge at 500mA.
Does anybody know how much battery USB tethering uses versus Bluetooth tethering?
Bt is a much slower throughput
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Even though bluetooth is a slower output, I'd still reccomend it over USB. It's always worked well for me

Will using Sidesync with USB degrade my battery?

I'm interested to use Sidesync to have my S8+ screen on my PC. Wirelessly, it's unstable as I use VPN a lot. The best is via USB but I worry if my phone is continuously connected to a USB port, battery may damage as it will do like a cycle of charge/discharge. Any idea, guys?
It should not be a problem, unless your phone is using more power than what it is getting out of the USB. Once your phone is fully charged, it keeps using the energy directly from the incoming electricity.
But if the discharge is greater, then I would definitely advice you against it.
The phones are pretty intelligent to say the least.
To add to that, your best bet is to use a true USB 3.0 or 3.1 Gen2 port to connect the phone - the latter if available. These ports provide extra amps to make sure the phone is getting as much power as it can use. Do NOT use a USB 2.0 port, as modern phones consider the 500mA max that USB 2 can provide to be the bare minimum needed to charge.
Thank you both
