Was presently surprised to see a "H" instead of a "3G" on my N1....Could it be true...finally HSPDA+ as was promised in the beginning of January! I cannot connect, but instead get a data plan error from the website. Edge and 3g work without problems so I am assuming they are testing...
Can anyone else confirm?
Ill post a speedtest result once its up and running
If you're rooted and running Cyanogen's rom, that's why you're seeing the H now. He added that to his rom when the phone connects to HSDPA. So it doesn't mean anything has changed with the network.
Apparently there is a Data Outage for N1 users and T-Mobile...
This topic: T-Mobile internet just stopped working on my N1.
Some glitch with N1's...reboot solved
And yes you were right about the H, its not my H+ One can still hope

Lol... that data outage was days ago man. I think it's in your interest to hang out in this forum and read thoroughly prior to posting anything. So far you haven't posted anything that we haven't already discussed. No offense, of course.
Well it wasn't days ago in South Florida when I experienced it today....
MOD EDIT - Rude remark removed
I've been having problems like that everyday with the internet saying that i need a data plan.Just reboot and will be ok.
Thanks man...
I also read you can switch it to Airplane Mode then back to fix it...
Germaj:
I am in Orlando, but the HSPDA speed should been going for awhile.
I noticed the "H" immediately after flashing cyanogen's mod because he coded it to actually show the "H".
His rom does not actual increase the speed though. It just helps differentiate between the two. Possibly you were in a location that did not have it though.
As for data outages. I definitely noticed the big drop out on Friday, but there was another one yesterday for me at least. Shorter though.
This has been discussed already but, T-Mobile has not launched HSPA+. That should be later this year. As for HSPA, its turned on but there has not been a significant increase of bandwidth to the sites so you will not see the bandwidth on your phone.

I noticed an issue switching between 2g and 3g that even rebooting fixed but only until it switched again (moving locations etc). It wasn't until I went into 'network operators' and reselected my network that the issue fully resolved. Worth a shot if you're still having issues.

You're right on both counts. But nobody likes redundant threads either. It would be nice not to see the Nexus forum turn into another Dream forum.
Anyway, that being said, the Florida data outage was fairly short-lived in comparison to the one from a couple days ago. Floridians got off lucky, it seems.

I love my Epic. Just switched from Verizon and have found I roam a lot on verizon. Which is fine, but when I'm home it's half a bar or sometimes no bars at all but still sprint. Time without a signal right now is 97%. This is draining my battery and causing me to drop calls. Is there a setting to prefer use of strongest tower regardless if it's roaming? If I roam to Verizon it's Full bars.
Thanks,
See if you can get an airwave.
why would you switch to verizon when it has no 4g?
@rawsoup. So 4G does exsist?? Not available here. I was curious if there was an app to use strongest tower regardless if it's roaming. Wherever I go it's always half a bar with sprint. So calls will connect but then they drop. I guess I'll just get an airwave for my house, work and the grocery store.

hmmm. thats funny what area (not specific address, i'm not a stalker) do you live in?
I have to agree with OP on this...the ability to flop over to roaming would be awesome. It's amazing..this same post has shown up for a ton of different phones throughout the years and the first response is always "why?".
I live in Queens in a basement apartment, 15 minutes from Manhattan. If I go outside my building, I get 2-4 bars service. Depending on where I leave my phone in my house, I get 0-1 bars, 1 if I'm really, really lucky and have been a good boy all year.
Currently, without paying stupid amounts of money for an airave (I don't even make that many phone calls, just need to be available for work), I have to turn the phone radio off, load up sipdroid to use with my gizmo5 account, and rely on google voice completely. I don't get texts, but since I have GV I get those texts and that suffices for now...but it's a lot of work to simply be able to be reached.
Verizon has 5 bars in my apartment. I shouldn't have to pay sprint whatever ridiculous amount they're asking for the airave hardware and the service when sprint already has roaming deals with verizon, and I pay for these roaming contracts in my monthly plan. I should be able to switch over to roam in my house for the off chance that I do get a phone call, and so that my battery isn't drained completely by two hours of trying to aquire sprint's signal.
The Palm Pre had a roam only hack, and it was beautifly done. Can someone get the ball rolling for an android app? I know there have been three billion posts in relation to this feature on android...but it would be really, really helpful.
I agree but airwaves hve been mostly free for people calling in needing help with ****ty service inside. Especially if you can be nice but still be fcirm with pleading your case.
Now sometmes new accounts need to wait 90 days for new free hardware to establish payment history and if you don't pay your bill or in general are a pain in the balls don't expect them to help you.
However many people get them without the monthly fee and free hardware.

Sweet, just what I'm looking for. Thanks!
I guess if I root my phone, sprint won't let me return it with their 30day worry free program. I guess I'll just have to just trust it works. (unless there's a unroot option)

Wow. You people need to stop wondering why and just answer the question. Clearly OP doesnt have any type of good signal.
I live in the bronx in a basement apartment and i get 2 bars if im lucky. But its always switching between sprint and verizon killing my battery, lagging my phone and dropping my calls. F the airwave. I had force roaming with CM6 on my hero and would use it when im home and get full bars with no interuption and then switch to sprint when i step outside my door where i get full bars.
But anyways, nah i dont think the epic has force roaming yet...when someone ports CM6 over it should have it.
You can go into settings/wireless & networks/ mobile connection and set it to home only and it should be able to hold onto that 1 sprint bar you have and it wouldnt constantly switch to vzw and back, killing your phone.
It sucks. I remember i would hope i started roaming before i got the option for force roamong lol

And yeah roaming is free and unlimited on verizon. But apparently theres a data cap of 300mb on 3g and unlimited 4g roaming (which is bs cuz sprint is the only one using WiMax) with the 4g phones....but im not entirely sure...

Just so people know, there is an app in the market called "Roam Control" that allows you to force roaming on your Epic. Disclaimer: I am the developer.
Otherwise, with HTC phones, you can run CM6 which has the roaming option built in.

Yeah, right. Something about pigs flying?
I live in a medium size city and going outside of it you loose data signal. US Cellular always picks the signal. I hope the ruling means they have to share 4G signal which is coverage by 3 carriers already here and Sprint does not.

Nothing in that article states that it's going to be 3G.
"Mobile Internet" is so vague that it could be as basic as feature phone web access. You may not think "mobile internet" can be 2G but it most certainly is.
It does state "voice roaming", then "internet roaming". I'm absolutely sure you would have a hard time surfing the web with 2G signal. Haha

Nothing states that Sprint has to give you 3G access to it though. Just look at the PRL now...most VZW access is 2G only when Sprint could make it 3g.
Sprint keeps it at 2G so you can still pull data for a few things but don't eat much watching streaming video all day.

2G is data. It's just slow. "Hard time surfing" only in the sense that it'd be tedious...not impossible.
I can force roam right now and pull sufficient speeds for Google Navigation and browsing of non-graphics heavy websites.
Thread cleaned. If you want this to stay on topic, keep it about the OP's topic, not about a user's signature.
Sprint isn't affected by this. They already have a deal with Verizon. This only affects the smaller companies such as Metro PCS, which use the exact frequencies and infrastructure as Verizon

I haven't read the total ruling...but I bet it has nothing to do with frequencies and network protocol. It is up to the other company to provide a handset that has radios to communicate with the roaming partner. Kinda like how the Epic will not roam on Cricket and Metro PCS AWS areas.
Verizon has been sharing their network......Just about every time you roam it's either VZ or Altel which is owned by VZ as well.
Try modding post 4, which has jack schit to do with this thread, not to mention the intentional ""look at me i'm not only a post whore, but I just got my 3rd cell phone so you should see them all....and yes I have mommy's permission to post since I'm only 12"

I bought Roam Control for a while but ultimately I need to roam at my office. I got no sprint signal inside the building. Before I got EVO I had a moto q9c and it roamed on verizon just fine with about 4 bars. My work cell phone is also verizon and I got the signal in my office but it is 1x signal.
Anyway, with roam control. I forced my EVO to roam but it will not connect to anything. Always says no signal..........
The problem is not that roam control does not work. It works when I am not in my office but I am not sure if it is roaming with verizon or US cellular. I might not have USC signal in my office but for sure I got verizon signal.
Thoughts???
Thanks!
Verizon roaming with RC works on my EVO... might want to reach out to the developer (https://sites.google.com/site/roamcontrol/faq... last entry on the FAQ). He's very helpful / responsive, I worked with him on creating the Locale/Tasker integration.

I was about to pull the trigger on buying it. But the latest review said it had been updated to force a license check upon use. So if your Sprint signal is weak enough that it can't complete the license check, the app will not run. You're put in the catch-22 of wanting to roam because you don't have a usable signal, but the app that will let you roam won't run unless you first have a usable signal. I'm not buying it until either this is verified as false, or removed.
LOL - I just checked it in the market and he's updated the licensing so it only checks for a license the first time you run the app. Update the app and give it another shot.
I have updated my PRL. I also updated the App. No hope here

Incorrect....I have Roam Control, and I use it 4 days a week when I'm at school because the Sprint coverage on my campus is abysmal to say the very least. It works great.
Then something is either wrong with my phone or ROM. I can't get it to change to home only or roaming. I can easily check since i have evo deck.

Is that force roaming to Vz? Maybe you started getting spotty Sprint ownwd EVDO coverage. Forcing 3g only could be putting you on Vz towers.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Doesn't EVDO Only disable voice calls?
This would also be a good way to save battery without losing all data connectivity.
3G/EVDO uses a lot of power. If you switch this setting to CDMA only you will force the phone to only use 1x. The data rates will be slower, but acceptable enough for most notifications and light things like facebook.
CDMA - 2G/1X Slower Data greater battery life
EVDO - 3G/EVDO Higher speed data, battery hog.

Hybrid OR CDMA only are the only options you should choose here folks.
CDMA only WILL produce battery life savings though. Your data will be slower then molasses rolling uphill in December BUT it will be sufficient for emails.
It's a very nice find either way just on that fact alone. Back in the motorola days this was a very popular battery saver mod. Disabling EVDO and forcing it to always be 1X.

The EVDO radio and CDMA radio are two different radios I believe.
When you put EVDO only you're probably seeing JUST your 3G signal which might appear stronger.
CDMA only you're seeing just your 1x/voice/sms signal.
Hybrid the signal bars I'm sure just average the two out...
That's how I "think!" it works... could be way wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if a new PRL fixes this... seems to be area specific, I have great signal for the most part...
Also, fixxer, I know you've been having horrid battery life. I'm sure the low signal is causing this as the lower the signal the more power the radio is going to be given to try and maintain the signal.
Try CDMA only and use WiFi whenever you can (also be sure to set WiFi sleep policy to never). 1x uses significantly less power then 3G... although it's to slow to be downloading big apps or loading really complex web pages, it would however be great for general notifications. Give it a shot and let me know if it helps your battery at all!

Could be a prl but i still think it needs a radio. This phone is set to wcdma when it should be cdma auto prl. Hopefully we get a fix or ota soon. My battery is better today since i flashed a stock rom and kernel. Not great but better.
I gave the CDMA-only option a shot, no incoming phone calls at all. Switched instead to EVDO only, and calls seems to be coming through better in an area where I had maybe 50% success rate for incoming calls when running unmodified. I'll leave it here for awhile, so I know when someone is actually trying to call me.
This is horribly frustrating, I suffered with poor AT&T service for years for the iPhone and never thought I'd be wishing I hadn't changed carriers. I could maybe justify the shoddy call coverage if data was at least fast, but it's not. I'm giving this another week, and going for a return and possibly switching carriers again.
CDMA only setting for calls/texts paired with 4G for data seems to work pretty well.
Since EVDO only mode seems to prevent receiving calls.
True test will be when I get home, 1930's brick building that has been raising hell with calls.
