Ok, I use Topix all the time, so I am used to speed and smoothness. (Thanks KWBR!)
But I am trying some WM 6.5 roms with Manila 2.5 and they are all so frikkin slow! But when they sum up the features of the ROM in their start post, it says tweaked for perfomance, smoothness, etc.
But damn, they are all so slow...
EDIT: Have a look at this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qj6Y7XnC4I
It's on a touch pro 2, but much smoother! Same hardware no?

But is the device a leo then? I believe they only do a PREVIEW of the Leo's manila, but just on a touch pro 2?
The ROM looks like EnergyROM
yep, its flashed onto a Touch Pro 2. Somehow Diamond2 and Touch Pro 2 look more responsive in manila.
i have blackstone and tp2 both with nrgz leo from 23-09-09 and i personali think the tp2 is much faster and way more responsive dont know how this comes
maybe because of different motherboard ot other chipset
try Dutty's Leo R4 at htcpedia.com....it works great on the HD, only thing is it doesn't have twitter
When I tried Miri ROM with Manila 2.5 all were slow because Manila 2.5: now I'm using Manila 2.1.
Maybe I'll try Manila 2.5 when Official Version will be released with few bugs.
D'rath
currently using miri's latest rom and it is quite responsive but with some minor bugs!! but still a great rom..
what are the Energy ROMs like?? i havent tried them due to complains about battery life i think!!
Forget WM 6.5 on Touch HD
Pfff, last week I was bored on an hotel room and saw a lot of new ROMs from Dutty, Miri, PDAviet, Laurentius26... I had tried ROMs from them for Kaiser, so I gave them a chance.
No way man, all WM 6.5 ROMs are so slow and diffiicult to use... in most of them something fails, QuickGPS / Power properties / Twitter tab / Opera 9.7 text reflow...
I'm back to HTC stock ROM and that's speed, and everything works as expected. I suppose Touch HD 2 with a CPU twice as fast and new drivers, can handle Manilla 2.5 better, but for the moment, I do not see any advantage...
btw i think there is speedy m2.5 on blackstone
well im using nrgz ''leo'' series and i have to say i can use it for everyday
(but tp2 feels a little faster)
not everything works ok as it should like i cant get my location to work(but i can set it up manualy so i use that for the weather on homescreen
installes zenyees cab(really thankfull for this) to disable htc messaging
and further i use the speedtweaks from wvga tweak
for the so called battery problem i get two days by putting the light on automatic and normal use 5 or 6 message and a few phone calls and a litlle interneting
so eveything is fine for me with nrgroms
And I am back again to Topix 3.0
The only ROM series that impresses...

I tried Dutty's Leo R4 ROM and found it to be a little sluggish for me, so I went back to Stock ROM like yourself, but then I thought I'd try Dutty's v4.3 WM6.1 ROM with Manila v2.1 after reading some good reviews and I'm glad I did - it's much better than Stock in my opinion and I find it runs quicker in everything.
Plus I quite like the new Calendar tab in Manila v2.1
MOD EDIT
Move to General Discussion as not related to rom development
Tried Dutty and PDAViet's version of Manila 2.5 with 6.5 and found them to be way to slow for everyday use.
Now i'm with the Energy ROM one and it's a lot better, it's faster and more stable.
people .. ive flashed almost every rom out there .. if u really want manila 2.5 try mirri winmo 6.1 with manila2.5 its much faster then any winmo 6.5 rom, but i am back to stock rom witn spb mobile shell 3 installed believe me ppl its much better graphically and responsive then is manila 2.5
vcespon: pfff, speak for yourself dude.
I would never go back to a stock ROM.
Manila 2.5 includes the HTC Twitter tab which is very handy for twittering. However, I prefer the Manila 2.1 Homescreen rather than the Manila 2.5 Homescreen.
Is there an HTC Twitter cab available that can be installed onto Manila 2.1?
I've been searching also but could not find anything
I'm also intrested for that cab-file
Have been using Twitter a my Blackstone with XannyTech rom EVO1.2 (of course Manila 2.5) ... and that was working fine.
btw, you can also use TWIKINI , it has no tab on the manila 2.1 interface ... have to install it as a standalone program.
http://www.trinketsoftware.com/twikini/
Try moTweets instead of Twikini:
http://www.panoramicsoft.com/mobileapps/motweets/moTweets.php
It's super-cheap and got really AWESOME interface! You'll love it... ^^
It got integrated, system-level notification and all feature mentioned in Twikini, BUT WITH SUPER-NICE INTERFACES.... ^^
+1 on motweets. i too really nj0y the 2.5 twitter tab tho. cant wait for some VGA features to be ironed out.
ok I get WM 6.5 and the newer verson 6.5.1 and most other acronyms and project code words but I missed the boat on what the heck is Manila?
I am thinking it is the HTC 3D style UI vs. the simple sliding bar UI that Microsoft provides but I could be wrong!
anyone know/share a link to what the heck Manila is?
yes manila is another name for the touchflo 3d UI
Thanks!
So makes sense. I installed the EnergyROM with Manila, then Optimal Champion 23502 ROM without Minila. So. I now I am looking for a 2350X ROM with Manila

..in the shipped rom htc sense 2.1 is used! Htc sense does not have the shortcuts @the home screen.
You didn't do anything wrong...
If you want the shortcuts you must flash a cooked rom!
...I was wondering the same..why dont we have the 3 short cuts on home screen with the official WM 6.5 for TD2 ??
and why using a cooked rom ? because it seems like the new HD2 will have the 3 shortcuts with original rom, hmmm maybe we will have somethin like an update on the offiial htc website for td2 ?
Shortcuts are in sense 2.5 and this is in some cooked roms only. Sense 2.5 was extracted by chefs from Leo rom I think. In stock wm6.5 there is manila (or sense) 2.1.

As has been said, Manila 2.5 (with the icons) was developed with for the next generation of phones in mind. Phones like the HD2 have better hardware to handle the extra funcionality. Remember there is a trade off between function and performance. If you have to have 2.5 then a custom ROM is your only option and to be fair most of them run better than we should expect considering that a TD2 doesn't have the power of a HD2. That's down to the skill of the people developing the custom ROMs, but for me running a Sense 2.1 ROM is a good compromise.
And i HATE the look of 2.5 so it's a no-brainer for me
Edit.. Just to add that the official WM6.5 update brings with it an outdated version, albeit 'official' version of Manila 2.1. The 'sense' version of 2.1 is something that again you will only get in a custom ROM. It is the official 2.1 with some updated components from 2.5 added to it. i.e Weather on the hometab clock. Depending on the chef you can find the balance between function and performance that suits you best. I'd personally prefer to have a Program tab (like in the Dutty R0 2.1 'Holy Grail' ROM that i use), than have icons cluttering up my home screen.
Thanks for your clarifications, I was wondering if there would be a possibility to use sense 2.1 but with old white and black old manila icons with the slider instead of the colored one in WM 6.5 ? like having a file cab to change that ? any info or help would be nice, thanks .

It's being looked into. Unfortunately it seems that most of the effort is being put into customising Sense 2.5 whereas Sense 2.1 is the ginger step-child which is being largely ignored. For the Sense 2.1 users, which i believe is the better option for the hardware spec of the TD2, we have to take what we are given. There are a variety of cooked ROMS using a 2.1 base that have a varying degree of 'Leo' apps cooked into them. (For instance i've seen some using a 2.5 HTC photo album on a 2.1 ROM)
I've been using MaxTTM to remove top and bottom curtains from the Sense 2.1 homescreen but finding 'components' to add to the app which do more than that is almost impossible for Sense 2.1. Again it seems that everybody is jumping aboard the 2.5 bandwagon. For example, if you are looking for a transparent slider that works with Sense 2.1 you can forget about apps like MaxTTM for now.
Is it possible to have the combination clock\weather on your home screen with window mobile 6.1?
They've been working on that forever... so far it seems you need one of two things... the first being WM 6.5. Second either a Sense 2.1 OR manilla 2.5 rom running. I dont know if they have made any sense 2.1 or manilla 2.5 for wm 6.1. To date, other then flashing to a rom that has those things I mentioned above, there doesnt seem to be a way to get the clock you are asking for.
I should actually point out there ARE ways of having the weather clock... however NOT in Manilla running over a wm 6.1 stock rom. You could try one of the many other UI's out there though. I know that PointUi has this feature... well one of themes/plugins has that ability..... most notibly the Sense theme.
You should give this a go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618063
Tried it myself and it runs very well indeed
