i've seen the voice recognition feature for the nexus one and it's really great and useful (especially when composing sms messages i almost drooled watching the video lol)
is there anyway to port or get it on the HD2? or are there any apps that can do it?
isn't there anybody who can help with this ?
you serious?
Probably the fact that nexus one runs a completely different operating system with also significantly different hardware slipped you
The speech-to-text feature is AWSOME imo, and I would also love to see it on such a great device as the HD2. The voice recognition on Google Maps acctually works pretty accurate on the HD2, so speech-to-text might be a possibility for this device!

yea man i totally agree
i didn't really try the voice recognition in google maps, but if it's as u say it sure gives us hope to see such great feature on our HD2
I read of a nexus ROM cooked for the HD2 with voice recognition but didn't download it at the time, now I can't find it again
If anyone knows of it, please share.
there was a program around a while ago (german,i think) that could do text to voice, cannot remember if it could do other way round, voice to text...

Check this iPhone app out that was reported on by Engadget. Looks like a cool concept and maybe something someone is interested in integrating. Just sharing the info. Enjoy!

Basically for anyone that doesn't understand this it uses the camera input for the background so you can watch where your walking while typing. I think this can be done but no for devices with laggy cameras it could be done for them but I think it would be pointless. Such as the kaiser. (Though HTC camera 6.8 reduces alot of lag) Im willing to help with the UI
nice concept
lol,awesome
i might add this to my fim if its possible to hook the camera view.
I'm sorry but.... It's a nosense app!!I mean the only thing I would see behind the texting gaps would be.... THE GROUND
Think about it... when you're typing a sms you do it lookig DOWN to your device so the camera would record the ground!!!

This is true. Anyhow, I sure wasn't saying I wanted or needed this developed. I just wanted to pass it along to the community JIC someone was interested.
Keep the info coming in, ya know?
I WANT IT PLEASE would be awesome for walking and if you could use the flashlight too
I don't know how useful would this be... but it would definitely be cool!
The main use of this app would obviously be while driving or riding a motorcycle.
I've been laid off for about 6 months now and I've still been pretty busy with school work but my finals for summer are over next week and I'm already getting pretty bored at the house all day.
I'm a pretty good programmer and I've been thinking about developing some apps in my spare time to ease the bordum. Only problem is that I'm not very creative at all. So I was wondering if anybody had ideas on applications they would use or maybe even buy if were available?
Thanks!
If possible...
A Twittertab was requested on this forum.
Ahh a twitter tab built into manilla would actually be pretty cool.
Here you go...
Take a look at SRS WOW HD, emulate it and make something like it that will work with MS Voice Commander and Manila....
It is the one app that really makes a big difference to the way the device sounds when listening to music and is very good.
It now conflicts with Voice Command somehow and worse yet, makes your phone not wake up from standby.
That would be a worthy pursuit.....
Cheers

or maybe an app that changes your homescreen wallpaper maybe every hour or every day to some random wallpaper you have on your phone..
there you go, mate, tons and tons to keep you busy - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=454386
or use the new capabilities of the TP2 to make emulators for other platforms

I completely second that! Audio Booster cannot be compared with SRS WOW HD because SRS is waaaay better!
Id like to have some sort of twitter tab/decent app
A great FB app. Currently the ones we have now is pretty weak compared to the ones on BB/iPhone
Yeah I agree, Facebook & Twitter tabs in TF would be great (MS Facebook is rubbish)
I'll get started on a twitter tab come August 12th when I get my TP2
An ebay app that allows you to add watch list ending times as calendar reminders, and to be able to bid would be good. Oh and a decent Football app.

A working Ventrilo client for Windows Mobile.
Now there has been a program called Centrilo that worked with pre 3.x ventrilo servers and it was golden. Now that they updated the servers the person who made them became tired of the project and released the source code even for the Centrilo app he made.
Just google up Download Centrilo for Windows Mobile you should find it

Ok my fellow nexus one lovers... I had a Nexus one for about a month, and upon first opening the phone, there was dust, so I immediately got a replacement. I thought it was cool that next day when I show up at work, they had sent me my replacement so I was quite suprised on the service. Anyways, the phone was great, loved every aspect EXCEPT when texting, it wouldn't register my delete, and instead, a stupid smiley... in a way, I was getting pissed cause google was "smiling" at me when I was trying to do something else.
So my question is, I really want to go back, or wait for the HD2, but I feel the nexus is a better fit, especially when I use almost all the google features... but the texting/screen issue is a factor... I know people all over have this issue, and there isn't a resolution yet (that I've found) so what do I do? Wait? Suck it up and get it again? What are your suggestions???

It took me 3 phones to get all my issues fixed. If you're worried about fast customer service, get a phone that is supported directly by a carrier (Mytouch3g, droid, etc).
I have a good friend who just got a droid after being a huge crackberry fan. He loves it.
The nexus one is a pilot program so there will be growing pains to endure.
In terms of the touch issues watch your other fingers around the edge of the touch screen. I notice whenever my screen goes wonky a finger that shouldn't be touching the screen is.
Keep in mind you can get other keyboards than the stock that are agruably better anyway.
Good luck and thanks for supporting Android.
Didnt realize you were talking about screen issues, since using Cyanogen I havent expierenced them, but I dont know if they've been fixed for regular users.
hmm I didn't pay any attention to it after I rooted/flashed cyanogen... guess I'm going to have to think about this one a little bit. but overall I loved it. Do you guys think it will be fixed.... someday?
Well its an issue that theyve been made well aware of on their support forums so I would assume theyre working on a solution, I dont know why they wouldnt be.
just curious, but are you using the stock keyboard?
No, im using better keyboard right now and use smart keyboard and swype from time to time, just like to mix things up every once in a while, I type so fast on this thing now that smart keyboard and better keyboard have pretty much made swype useless to me. Smart Keyboard is free in the market and Better Keyboard is like 2 bucks and is pretty similar but is theme-able which I like. I also dont use auto correct or suggestions or any of that stuff so I dont know how they work for those.

Smart Keyboard and Better Keyboard are really just the stock keyboard with minor differences and more customization (but nothing innovational), if you really want to enjoy your typing experience - I suggest installing the HTC_IME, the typing creation cooked up by HTC for their Sense UI phones.
Nothing really beats it, I don't see how anything could. Swype though, is lovely.
I still feel like I type faster on smart or better keyboard, it could be I just havent gotten used to HTC IME yet, i used it all the time on my mytouch but ive just gotten so use to these keyboards that I dont even have to look to type, like typing this whole thing for example. I guess in the end its all just personal preference.
whats the "htc ime" ? link? seems interesting

Use a different keyboard if you don't find stock predictions good enough. I would count among the best, Swype, Ultra Keyboard, Smart Keyboard, Swift Key. There are several others I have not tried.
Of course tyranny of choice applies - you will have to spend time trying out the new keyboards whereas iOS there is no choice of what keyboard to use AFAIK.

Not sure that i understand, the actual keyboard is tied to the predicitive text engine ?
blindtype is the solution to the problem i'm referring to, unfortunately won't be available until gingerbread.
shame
I constantly see online people using predictive text that create HORRIBLE sentences that are iPhones so it's predictive text isn't so hot either. Plus, don't both iphone and android start with horrible predictive text that gets better with usage?

i simply don't buy that i'm sorry
i've been a long standing iphone user who only recently switch to android and the first thing that stood out was the poor predicative text as opposed to iOS devices.
Buy it or not, but it's a fact. Try going on a website like Yelp, where it actually tells you "posted from my iphone" and you will CONSTANTLY see horrible writing and just completely random words. CONSTANTLY. Actually that is mostly where I see it because I don't really know to many folks with iPhones.
And personally, I hate predictive text, but I used to do data entry and like to type things out. For me it is easier to just type out exactly what I want instead of using that stuff.

having said that, i'm very excited about blindtype
I was an iPhone user before and I can definitely tell you that off the bat, iPhone Keyboard\predictive text is alot better than Android. HANDS DOWN.
HOWEVER, however, however.... thats comparing Stock to Stock.
Since using, SmartKeyboard, Better Keyboard... and better yet... DroidX multi-touch keyboard on both 2.1 and Froyo builds, the experience is now 'comparable'. Not quite there, but I can type as fast on an iPhone as I can on my Dell Streak with 1 hand.

So your biggest different is only the predictive text. Ok let's say iso has better predictive text but its not as if android is really that bad, you can install 3rd party keyboard to improve it. Does it really bothers you that much.

It's not the keyboard but the predictive software that comes with it. Personally, when the time comes that I need a phone or computer to spell for me or tell me what I want to say I'll go back to reading books carved on rock slabs.

I'm simply asking a question for the sake of understanding, why are you getting so annoyed ? Its a sincere question.
Typing this up on betterkeyboard (no, it hasn't improved the predictive text)
I'm simply trying to understand, on a technical level, how a different keyboard will help ?

From Stock Android to Better Keyboard, its an improvement. So far the closest I can get to the iPhone keyboard (responsiveness and predictive text) is the Multi-touch keyboard from DroidX. I know what you mean about the iPhone keyboard and I can still say, nothing so far, beats it. All I'm saying is the DroidX keyboard is the closest I got.... so far.
I've always liked the core idea of the LightPhone 2.
A phone that has less distraction but is not a total feature phone.
The Lightphone 2 is great and all but mainly the price is what really turns me off.
A few other cons are lack of e-hailing apps(atleast in my country, e-hailing service like Grab and Uber are much cheaper than Taxi), lack of choice in messaging system(I'm not trying to live near off the grid here) and no camera(that can be actually used for taking pictures of receipt or scanning a document(I live in a between a first world and third world country)) .
I think that the Pixel is a suitable quick replacement for it.
It's just very cheap at this point.
The OLED display just makes sense to use a total minimalist white on black UI (yes I do realize the Lightphone uses E-ink but compared with an LCD based phone OLED just makes sense)
The Pixel has a bad processor intensive task, it will overheat doing nothing. Underclocking it would still be way faster than a Lightphone 2 and would still serve its purpose
and many more
...but only if there is a ROM built for that.
And for that I want to ask any experts here is it possible to just stripdown the Android 10 rom, mod the launcher for the UI, tweak how the notification works to achieve the above?
Did anyone ever make a ROM for this?

I still think the best way is if a dev suddenly want to make a Lightphone OS style custom rom for a Pixel
