The list goes on. This is truly a terrible device. If it wasnt for the times that things did work fully (rare) and the money I paid for it, it would truly be in the bin!!!
I have read the forums and even after all the hard work people have put in to try and isolate the problems, all of them seem to end up unconclusive regarding the issues I have. I am at my teathers end with this device (
How can the XDA people get away with this, surely they have been approacned about these things? And they say the 2i is better than the 2, blimey I dread to think.....
end rant, thanks for listening
a very disheartened XDA2i user
I recently got an XDAIIi and agree with your post, although 4 is understandable as you shouldn't really be using bluetooth on a plane
I think a lot of the problems are related to third-party software - it might be useful to compare lists of what we have installed, for example I tried out TomTom too and found it ruined the device's stability.
The multiple GPRS connection problem is probably caused by the GPRS monitor program that came on the CD. I had this problem, I uninstalled GPRS Monitor, and GPRS connects correctly every time now.
The camera software is completely flawed, each alternate horizontal line is interchanged before conversion to jpg hence the rubbish quality of the images. Not sure about the horisontal line, but in indoor evening light my XDAIIi was only able to take blurry silhouettes, probably a bug in the automatic brighness control. The camera driver seems to have been sloppily ported from a version for different hardware, and released untested.
The mic pick-up is terrible, and the AGC doesn't seem to make any difference, I get far more people unable to make out what I'm saying than with the plain XDAII. I presume this is another software bug in the AGC.
7 might actually be the bug with all pocketPCs - only the email account currently "open" will auto-download new items periodically.
Also the alarms seem even worse than on normal pocketPCs. As ever I installed WakeupTweak but this time I still missed alarms on a 60s wakup, and had to extend it to 90s.
I have installed Pocket Informant, TT3 (this didnt seem to make anything worse) and have a 1Gb Lexar SD. I did install the GPRS monitor but have since removed it. I think my SD card could be faster, but we keep making excuses for this device.
Re 4, well this was to experiment, as the TT3 crashing has been suggested to be caused by the phone changing cells, but being a Bluethooth GPS I needed flightmode on aswell as BT, which is just about possible but with no definded method other than to confuse it?!? Why the blue blazes they try to force these things I don't know!! I am hoping TT5 will improve this.
re 7. yes i undertand and accept that, but the last one I entered just wont do anything, but not too bothered.
So, as a phone, its rubbish (no speaker phone, crashes, bulky), as a camera it's especially rubbish, as a PDA its ok with wireless in the home, but so long as you dont ask it to do anything out of doors, or even indoors.
These appear on startup, they probably need updating, but not sure where to get the official UK ones

Look forward to hearing about other peoples gripes, next stage with me is probably back to the shop and probably an arguement with some o2 dude.
Perhaps I'm being picky, perhaps I should be happy about giving money away for nothing.
Just scanning through your posts about the IIi. I have had one for about 6 weeks now and haven't experienced any of the problems you describe (not complaining, of course )
I agree that the camera and AGC are not great, but mine behaves itself -- almost typed 'perfectly' there, but that's tempting fate.
I have TT3.07 & Alturion (via a Navman 4410), PocketBreeze 4.3, SPB pocket Plus (+weather add-on)various wifi scanning type programs (I'm a computer tech), a bluetooth neckset, not headset/earpeice and misc. other GPSDash type apps.
Added to this I'm trialling some VITO (navigation/remote/voicedialler) apps and about 300MB of MP3's on a 1GB Sandisk SD card.
My Rom versions are the same as tauria's -- I guess we should all have the same -- there aren't any upgrades/mods yet are there?
The only thing I don't use is GPRS -- don't need it!, otherwise its straight out of the box and saturated in utils and mahjonng/solitaire ( a techies life is sometimes a solitary one :wink: )
I can't offer any advice or help with your problems because I'm not experiencing them, just wanted to add my experience to yours as a sort of balance.
Is it possible you have a couple of rogue devices? or is it possible someone just crayoned an 'i' on mine before sending it out :lol:
Me again, I have rememebered that I performed a hard reset and opted for a corporate install, based on some posts relating to the O2 Active software causing problems -- do you have this installed?
I seem to recall there were several thread on this issue, so I went the corporate route to minimise problems.
Maybe that's an area you could look at?
blackfoot I was wondering if you could answer a question.
I just got my mobile phone number transferred to my XDA's SIM today so have used it as a phone for the first time, if i switch off the device (so it's a black screen but phone still active) and it rings it switches on but it just freezes (this only happens with pocketbreeze on the today plugin) I see the fact that the phone is ringing but the box doesn't pop up.
Is there anyway to make pocketbreeze not refresh its data when a call is incoming ? Or does anyone have the same problem?
I am sure I am missing something here, maybe someone can help.
When the Exec is connected to USB sync or power the Bluetooth will stay on all day no problem.
If I dont use the power cable or sync, it will turn off bluetooth after 15-20 min and refuse to connect the headset untill I go into the menu and turn it back on.
There seams to be some kind of power save kicking in but I cant find it in any menu.
Headset is Jabra BT250 9 (Works very well I have to say)
Any ideas before I get busted for holding the phone while driving?
Thanks
Steve
er..evey phone I have owned I have had to turn on the BT manually before connection to the headset. If you use the Func+"->" key it is very easy to switch on/off the BT. I switch it own in the morning and switch it off at night.
ukspeedtraps ..... I've found that too. I thought it might have been a faulty Motorola BT Speaker that I'm usung with it. But maybe its not. I sometimes have to reset the XGA Exec before it will pair again.
Known issue
This is a known issue with the WM5 ROM (I had the same issue on an XDAII running WM5). The Universal is much better on battery life than my XDAII was. Obviously, a lot went into WM5 and the hardware to maximize battery life. However, when the unit goes into standby, the bluetooth eventually get's turned off (even though the blue light keeps flashing). This is a bug and will hopefully be corrected in a ROM update. If bluetooth staying on is important to you (it is to me) then go to the power settings and uncheck the box which turns the device off after so many minutes when on battery power. Your battery will drain faster (but still tolerable) and your Bluetooth will stay on. Hell, the bluetooth staying on may be what is draining the battery faster, if so, it's hard to complain. Anyway, your device will generally respond better and faster as a nice by product of not being turned off.
PanaBax
@Panabax, I didn't this was a problem. I assumed the blue light meant BT was working. I did, for another reason, uncheck the power off box in the Control Panel.
The number of problems with this device is just crazy.

Do you really thinks so? I find the Exec as good if not better than any other 'First Release' device that I've had. WM5 is still buggy, well so is XP! No new device is ever free from odd glitches.
I have to say that other than a fault on my handset, that is now being replaced, the Exec is superb.
@Splatt, I know this is off topic but I have a Treo 650 and Nokia 9500 (and have had the Nokia 7710, SE P800, P900 & P910) and in comparison I do find that WM5 is more faulty. Just read all the problems people have had here and at www.clubimate.com - it is not good for such an expensive device (remember many people have paid the full SIM free price).
The BT problem discussed in this thread is a good example, I did not know about this problem and I only did not suffer because of a change I made. For a business user not be to be contactable, via BT, is unacceptable when my wife's FREE SE handset can run for 7 days (24 hours a day) and the BT works in the way it should.
its exactly the same for the time being with Blue Angel ...
with beta WM 5.0 installed, BT has been also turning off .... AFAIK its still problem of software, i.e. ROM version offered, hope future releases do solve that issue

In the US we have a system available in some cars called OnStar. The system, among many other things, is able to detect a crash and automatically contact emergency services. I guess cell phones are cutting into their profit margin because they've started running radio advertisements saying "What if you're in an accident and you can't reach your phone?"
Well that got me thinking... what if you can't reach your phone? And that gave me an idea... we can make a "clone" of OnStar.
Details
Many of our phones have G-Sensors. There is already an app out there to measure acceleration and G-Force.
We can create an app that you run in the car (perhaps hooked up with a car kit, windshield mount, etc). The app monitors acceleration/deceleration and G-Forces. When it detects a crash (instant deceleration and/or huge spike in G-Force), it plays a loud warning tone and displays a large "Cancel" button. If the cancel button is not pressed within a certain time period (15, 20, 30 seconds), it automatically calls 911 (or equivalent emergency number) and turns on speakerphone.
I can start the development of this myself, but certain things (e.g. the deceleration/G-Force measurement) I will need help with.
Before I start development I would like to gauge how much interest there would be in something like this.
I think it's a wornderful idea!
I can contribuite with the development if you need some help, but for the mathematics I suggest to contact some developer who already worked with such stuffs.
Marshall
The idea is good, but should be activated by user (i know, if he forgets...) : Imagine the problem if the device in in a suitcase or attache case, and the bag fall down (or is striked... )... The emergencies will be called just for a falling of bag... and the cancel button won't be seen...
I think this should be enabled (maybe by a profiler like G-profile or SBSH PhoneWeaver ???)
Anyway ,the idea is good !
that's definitely an excellent idea guys !!!!
I'm looking forward to this And if you need any help on the graphics, I can help you maybe
Surely a nice Idea.
To prevent false alarms a few other things could be taken into account, like sound level - If there is a sudden increase in sound level (crash whatever) or if it detected a "crash" it requires you shouting / using some voice command like features or whatever.
This is an phenomenal idea! Please do it. You guys could actually save lives with something like this. How many software ideas can actually save your life. Not sure if Onstar does this, but maybe have feature where, after it calls emergency assistance, it then calls your emergency contacts with message stating you have been in an accident and gives them your location if you have GPS enabled device.
No matter how much SE can piss me off, I have to say they did a good job with the last update R2BA020 .
I did fully charge my battery, did not use any task killer or such only kept adw launcher. With a normal use the battery last me a little over 48 hours I was at 10% when i devided to recharge it again.
-Around 2 hours of video
-4 hours of reading with Aldiko
-1 hours of internet
-Around 50 txt msg
-20 call 5-15 min each
-3 Pictures
-4 Hour of music while reading
-Email and weather widget run to update every hour
-Fancy widget running
-Bluetooth on all the time
-Gps and wifi was off all the time
Bottom line it’s impressive, now I really can enjoy my device without carrying a charger and searching for an outlet all the time .
I completely agree, the 020 firmware is fantastic. My usage differs slightly but even using Bluetooth to listen to Spotify all day didn't drain my battery. Neither did using my phone as a wireless 3G modem with Wifi tethering.
Well, yes, nice improvements but the WIFI is still using a lot of juice
wifi is confirmed using alot.
the phonebook is now kind of stupid...
when you click a person's name, their contact shows up, and when you tap their phone #...instead of calling that person directly it would bring you to the dialer screen with the # entered in and you need to press "call" to call the person...
i mean..if im in someones contact page and i tap their #..im pretty sure i want or need to call them....i really dont understand the point of bringing the dialer screen up again..pretty stupid on SE's part in my opinion
Well a quicker step would be to long hold their name and call them
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well, I've rooted my device yesterday, started using it massively around 3 or 4 am to reconfigure everything and now its battery is at 8%:
throughout all the process wifi was used for internet (when needed, of course), 3g/gps/bluetooth turned off.
* Installed a lot of apps, some using barcode scanner, some using appbrain.
* Synced with google
* Restored a backup
* Reconfigured a lot of apps
* around 6 sms
* tweeted 2 or 3 times
* 5 to 10 calls 10m~ each
* listened to music through the day (around 2 hours of music, simple last fm scrobbler was used to cache the data, didn't scrobbled yet)
* read a pdf book around 1 hour
* some random usage through the day, like checking online stuff.
* Since I go to work using the subway, the signal reception is quite poor, so the phone prolly was searching for signal during the day.
Even wifi draining a lot of battery, the phone battery was quite good for everything that I've done today.
Apart from the battery the whole system feels better, all the UI customizations done by SE are faster (timescape, mediascape, dialer and so on).
I can say, like all of you, SE did a good job on this update. I can't wait for the Q3 2.1 release. Seriously, I want 720p video recording so much
Greetings guys,
Whats the difference R2BA020 and B2FA020.
Thanks for your kind reply.

has anyone noticed any difference in call quality - in call volume especially
this was the thing i looked forward to getting the most out of this upgrade but no much difference i notice, still can't hear very well in any outside environment
i hope this issue becomes resolved...
I usually use headphones while outdoors, so I can't help here. Indoors it's been quite good, at least for me.

I was on fw 16 and it was a litter bit low but still fine, didn't notice any difference between 16 and 20 tho.
never heard of B2FA020 - Think it might have been a typo on someone's part?
Screen off while in call.
Not to start a new thread, I'll pin my question to this one. I've updated to R2BA020 (O2 Irl branded) and noticed that whenever in call the screen is not turning off, as it used to before. Did anyone else experienced this problem?
Regards, masterofp.
check your screen time out settings in the settings/ display/ screen timeout section.. it may be that it's reverted to a longer timeout period or to not time out at all.

Nope, still @ 15 seconds...
Though overall battery usage seems to be better with R2BA020 (Rogers), I've run into an odd issue:
When tethering via PdaNet, my battery drains at an alarming rate. It dropped 20% in the past hour. This wasn't the case before I upgraded (was using stock Rogers firmware before) - it would drain, but much more slowly, going from 100% to maybe 55% over the course of the 8 hours I was at work tethered. It's almost as if it's not charging at all via USB (or is charging much more slowly than before).
I checked, and the phone does register as charging while tethered. So I'm not sure what exactly the issue is. Nothing else has changed.
-edit-
Turned off PdaNet during a meeting I had today just to make sure my X10 is charging properly via USB, and sure enough it is (gained 12% charge over the hour).
after updating into R2BA020, my sim tool kit and play now were gone. Now, I want them back (especially STK). Does anyone know how to do it? My X10 is not rooted yet.
I'm pretty happy with the new Facebook app. It got rid of the "Camera" icon on the mainscreen and replaced it with "Inbox", which makes so much more sense.
My ringtones got reset, and I noticed that Astro File Manager lost a few file associations. I'm prompted for all sorts of default apps etc now, but it's just a minor annoyance.
I did the update through the Sony Ericsson PC Software. The first boot after update took a very long time on the Rogers splash screen. I was afraid the device was bricked for a couple of minutes. I guess it was just the first boot, and the Xperia was restoring all my user data.
Does anyone have comparison between R2BA020 and R2BA023? appreciate if it includes benchmarking between them.

yes, Am also facing the same problem
After buying an X2a in the USA in May and putting up with it's quirks, I've finally gone back to my old phone, a humble Nokia N95.
I thought I'd post a log of why I've made such a giant leap backwards in case it might prompt S.E. to do something about the X2 and the damage it has caused their reputation (I would never touch another S.E. phone again after this experience)
Here we go:
* The N95 gets reception in places the X2 doesn't.
I was happy to live with this and swap the sim card to the N95 about once a week when I was going to a poor coverage location, but that had problems:
X2 forgot all my ringtones assigned to people etc.
Battery on X2 would report as about 10% at the end of the day even though it was 98% when I turned it off and left it off all day.
* X2 is picky about how it charges
If you plug an X2 into a PC with no X2 device drivers etc installed, it chews the battery. You can literally watch it go down 1% every minute or two. I ended up taking a power pack to work (cos I can't install software on the work PC)
* X2 is slow
Worst manifestation is: phone rings, "answer screen" comes up, you hit answer - after 2 seconds nothing happened.
You think "touch screen must have missed my tap" so you tap it again.
In the mean time it's got the first tap and answered the call.
The "Hangup" button goes to the same spot as the "Answer button" - you've just hung up on your caller
In general though, you often hit a button and wait seconds for it to react.
Really poor user interaction design.
As a comparison, the N95 can sometimes be a bit slow (not as slow as the X2), but it shows a little animation or similar so you know that something is happening and the phone has heard you.
* X2 is unstable
I was using it a lot as a media player. Often it would just hang (normally when jumping to a new track)
- sometimes it would come back, other times you had to reboot.
In the last few weeks it was happening more and more and I found that I had to reboot twice to see the media.
(First reboot could see it in file manager, but not in media player. Second reboot was all good. This happened at least 3 times)
* Memory card issues
Like everyone, I had the memory card problem (and applied the fix).
Raised it as a support issue with S.E. - was told buy a new card.
Thanks to whoever found and made the fix - it certainly fixed my issue with the disappearing memory card.
* Volume level quite low.
It's usable, but now I, back to my N95, I'm amazed how much louder it is compared to the X2!
* 3.5" jack software driven.
Quite often I'd connect to a car system by a 3.5" plug, but the X2 played out of it's speakers.
Had to plug and unplug several times to make it work.
N95 works instantly everytime (although it always asks you what you just plugged in which is annoying...)
* Bluetooth
My handsfree can see the X2, but I cannot make or receive calls, so it's 100% useless to me!
* Video camera
I don't use the video camera much (only used it once) - result was very jerky. The couple of times I've taken video on the N95 I was impressed with the quality.
<edit>
* Voice control
X2 has no voice control at all. Vito voice dialer worked nicely, and their more general voice control app was ok, but no way to launch it with a single press.
N95 has voice control but it's crappy - you don't record your own tags, you have to try to imitate how the phone thinks things sound. It works ok, but I'd prefer to record my own tags.
</edit>
* Pro (just to even things up a little bit)
Reason I got the X2 is that the N95 kept rebooting itself when I visited New York.
The X2 (actually an X2a I guess) worked fine there and back home in Aus.
That's all I can think of right now.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used X2A?
Same experience about X2. But not anymore. I already change to X10. It is much better. Android is really different. Love it so much. Especially sending file via WIFI (Hoccer), chatting(Hanashi), WIFI tethering (Barnacle). Push email (Shangmail) and much more. Trust me, you will never bore with Android,especially X10.
Gunawan, GN Mutimedia & X10i
Those are the exact same reasons why I'm switching from the ****ty X2 to the Blackberry Torch. The X2 is simply obsolete and useless - can't even phone people or text message smoothly with the crazy lag. Requires you to reboot sooooo many times. I had to wait 10minutes to load a text message from the inbox...10 minutes...ridiculous. SE customer care doesn't or pretends they don't anything about the bugs that's evidently plagued this phone. SE and X2 can go screw themselves.
I might think about buying, depending on price I've wanted one to mess with for a while, not to use
What's everyone got with the X2? i scored mine pretty much new for $170US with a 16gb card, i just installed all the same fixes on this as i did on my x1 like the sms lag and no sms sent fixes as well as the memory card fix, also got it running at 1ghz and the phone runs great, hasn't crashed since i have had it and lasts a couple of days without charge on my mugen battery. Also the design is the best i have used the arc slider beats any other slide phones and the screen is pretty much flush and looks great perfect size at 3.2", x10 is too big for my hand end up having to use both hands to text, and doesn't actually feel like a real phone plus still on android 1.6. X2 has my vote.

It's a shame SE didn't manage to push one more FW for X2.
Definitely with some fixes it would have been one of the best WM phones ever.
But the stability issues kill the pleasure.
I use it and will do until I decide which future platform will be my choice.
It has the best design ever and SE custom interface somehow resembles... WP7 concept.
But there's no WM alternative for me.
P.S. However HTC Droid Z looks almost exactly like X2 now!
The X2 hardware is great - no question.
I even put up with the software for about 6 months.
The thing that made me consider going back to the N95 is that I got sick of swapping the SIM card between phones, coupled with the X2 losing all my ringtones for different people when I did switch the SIM.
The thing that finally pushed me over the edge is the media player freezing up then needing 2 reboots to get running again - this was happening too much.
I'll be on the N95 for another 6 months or so and then see what OS is flavour of the month...
In the weeks since I've moved back to the N95:
Good things on the X2
* Really miss the QWERTY for texts etc.
* MediaGo software was actually better than the Nokia equivalent. I'm just using WMP and MP3Tag which is a but painful.
* I had CoPilot on the X2, but I don't have nav software on teh N95 (might bite the bullet and subscribe to Nokia's service)
* X2 was easier to navigate. N95 has lots of stuff, but are they under "Apps" or "Utils" (or somewhere else...)
*Default N95 calculator is rubbish (used to have a 3rd party one that was much better - need to install that again)
Good things on the crusty old Nokia
* N95 has been rock solid (not one required reboot)
* Really love the fact that plugging a 3.5" plug in gets a predictable result. Straight away. Every time.
* Love the N95's dedicated media buttons.
<edit>
* It just works.
I thought of this getting out of the car after using the phone as a media player.
With the N95 I slide it open and push the stop button.
With the X2 I push the button to get it out of standby, push stop - wait a few secinds to see if it's going to stop (repeat until it actually stops)
</edit>
Other interesting things (probably tells you something about me ;-)
* Have not set the N95 bluetooth up again - but keep thinking "must do that"
I get the feeling you might have got a bad batch xperia x2 because i have never experienced the problems you have stated apart from the memory card issue which i resolved with a patch, i mainly use windows media player anyway when i listen to music, i very rarely use slide view as i am fine with titanium. Good that you like your n95, i had one recentl but sold it and bought the x2 for pretty much the same price as i sold the n95 for (not bad resale for a 4 year old phone), but n95 looks really dated next to the xperia and the screen size being too small and non touch made me change, although it is very practical and bullet proof, but i am a sucker for new tech and sony phones
