Is there any way to have the HD2 sleep after it's been idle for a couple minutes? When not connected to usb, it sleeps fine after the configured time, but on usb, it never goes to sleep. The screen only dims.
I think, by default, the screen will stay on for 30 minutes when connected to power.
this settings doesn't help?
Well i think this is more a feature than a bug... Imagine you are transferring big amounts of data to your SD-Card via USB and the HD2 would go to sleep, the SD would disappear and datatransfer would be stopped. The same would happen while you are syncing your device...

Agreed. I guess thats just how the HD2 is. Maybe I'll just charge it on the regular wall charger.
that's not to say you can't decrease this time or just press the power button when ya plug it in 2 turn off the screen.

this was the answer i was thinking about
or, are you saying it powers off fine when connected to a wall charger and acts differently if connected to a usb data cable?

That's it. And it's normal, as when connected to a computer it's either for activesync, disk drive or internet sharing, and in any of these cases you wouldn't want it to go to standby randomly, so it doesn't.
Just press the power button.
I'm interested too.
If I press the power button in my Leo while connected to my PC via USB, it sleeps, but then it turns on again.

When I updated my 8525 to WM6, I haven't been able to connect to active sync...
I plug the USB cable into the phone, and with active sync open, and all that happens is the light glows orange for about 2 seconds then shuts off. The charging icon disappears also. When I leave it plugged in, when the screen blanks out the orange light comes back on, but it never connects to active sync. When I turn it back on, the light goes out and I'm back to square one.
I plugged it into the charger, and it charges fine, so I know it's not the port on the phone. I've tried this with multiple cables and different chargers and nothing... Don't know what to do.
I have it sync with Exchange for my corporate emails. Could that have something to do with it?

One of the bloggers on Droiddog.com had the EXACT same question. Yes it's possible... read her method here:
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/06/nexus-one-power-button-failure/
Basically:
Plug the phone in– USB or AC works fine.
Wait until the charging light comes on.
Remove the battery, while leaving the phone plugged in.
Replace the battery.
After about 3-4 times, the phone should boot.
i need to know if i can turn it on via usb command, ive already called in for the device swap.

it worked!!!!!!! fourth time it started right up. thank you so much you saved my life
if you take it out and wait till right after the charging light goes off then put it back in it seems to start up a couple seconds later!
Glad you got it up and running. Sorry I misunderstood the question.

Is there a way to prevent the Vibrant from unmounting the storage every time I plug in a USB cable? I don't need to transfer files from my power plug, and when I want to charge my phone from my computer, it stops my media player/everything else until I go turn the USB connection off. Super annoying.

Menu>settings>applications>usb settings
There is a few different options, you can try each to see which works the best for you. Probably Ask each time would stop any automatic stuff from happening,. But its up to you.
That's what it's on, and it still does it.
AHA! It's not the droid system at all, it's DoubleTwist.

Yeah I had that problem too when I "had" double twist installed
Winamp app

The application Winamp Beta has the same way to solve this problem.
Is anyone having this problem. I have an a70 250gb when I push the power button it stays lit even in deep sleep. My battery drains completely overnight. I don't want to power off when not using for short periods of time.
I had the same bug as well with my 25ogb, but for some reason after a full reset it seems to be gone...
I thought at fist a program might have caused it, but i've reinstalled the same apps and i don't have this problem anymore..
I too recently developed this problem where the LED light stays on and keeps using power when in standby. I thought it might be some app I'd installed but thought it might sort itself out so after a week without improvement, I did a Reset, without result (except for losing another 32MB to the Swapfile). So then did a Reinitialise, also without result. To be clear, I didn't install any apps and still the thing won't go to sleep anymore. Any idea's?
Well looks like we're at a loss... I got the same bug on my a101. Battery drain isn't too serious though, but still it just boggles the mind.

I have the same problem and it happened around the same time my USB port died.
I've been waiting until the shop where I bought it has stock again to return it for repair/replacement. I think this is related to the USB dying.
It's happening the same with my 101. The led stays on when it goes to sleep, even after stopping all the processes using the Archos OS Monitor tool.
After a reboot seems to work OK; the led turns off in standby mode after five seconds more or less.
I haven't used deep sleep yet.
Maybe some application is causing this?
I installed only a few apps and firmware is v2.1.08:
- Aldiko
- Angry Birds (of course)
- DroidWall
- ES File Explorer
- Google AppsWidgetsoid
- SiMi Folder
- Zuma's Revenge

Have you checked the right tab "Wake locks" in the Archos OS Monitor?
Yes, I did change to this tab once and the list was empty. It appeared and disappeared a process very fast, so fast that I couldn't read the complete name
Good hint!
I get this sometimes on my 101, but a reboot seems to sort it out, Its got to be a process or app running in the background I think.
The best answer on the ArchosFans forum was :
My gut reaction is that you'll see this happen when you have the USB host problem because that issue happens when the power regulator chip in the Archos dies. And nothing can be done other than an RMA with Archos.

I verified this and my USB port was indeed not responding, so I've swapped it at the store and the new unit is wicked
Re: Power Button Staying Lit (Possible Fix)
Ok here's what I did after checking that the USB port was not the issue(worked fine with a usb flash drive). Check the following location
Go to: Settings-->Location & Security-->Use Wireless Networks
Description lists it as "See location in applications(such as Maps) using wireless networks)
If it is enabled, disable it. I turned it off, went pack to my home screen Soft press the Power Button for Standby Mode and the power LED is off within a few seconds.
Worked for me, Hope it works for you
Yeah, I have the USB host problem too, and it does seem like that is the cause. Argh, I don't want to go a week without my A70. D:

Confirmed. Hell, didn't know that would work O_O.
Thanks!
No luck for me - it was already off, and toggling it on then off didn't help, even after a reboot.
Nothing in the wake-locks list, and my host USB port is dead.
I see an RMA coming.
