I'm having some issues with speed. - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Device Specs:
Sapphire PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.19.26I
Rom: CyanogenMod 6.0.0-DS-RC2
My device seems to be lagging a lot, not always but i don't think its running as fast as it should be.
Ive turned everything off (gps, wifi, etc) all apps closed (using 'Advanced Task Killer' (ATK)) i get around 29m - 35m memory available which ATK told me.
Is this what i should be getting or should i be getting higher readings?
It may just be me being picky, but thought i would ask anyway.
Thanks
Chris

35 mb is nothing.......
i try to hover around 100 mb.... but i dont have too many apps installed either.
maybe 10 ish.

RAM and ROM are two very different things - althoug they both contain the word "memory".
I guess that's confusing

well thats what i thought. Any reason why im only getting this??
i have very few apps installed prob 10ish aswell
thanks
chris

you have a 32b which has the same memory as a g1/dream is why..
we have 100mb more on 32a boards

Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

Do you have it overclocked with apps such as SetCPU?
I have a 32b running CM5 also with 70ish apps and it runs well with very little to no lag at all by overclocking it.

what have you used to overclock?
I do have SetCPU but it seems to be making very little difference, if any.

how bad is overclocking the 32B Magic/Mytouch?

since i have installed the lated Qtek Hero Rom i have noticed that it helps immensly to overclock to maximum 527 and minimum 383. i kno its a bandaid for havving less ROM than the real HERO but im concerne about extended overclocking on this device.
i would like to know if others have overclocked with good luck and not had any problems with their 32B magics and Mytouches.

When i normally used a Hero, I always overclock my device with the same configuration as above. These days im just using remodded I/ON build to get a faster device.
The new kernel (2.17.401.2) has been released and HTC have made some change to clock frequenses.
Code:
# cat scaling_max_freq
528000
# cat scaling_min_freq
384000
Any discussion on whether it is okay to overclocking or not should be finalized if HTC themselves overclock their own ROM.
528 is not overclocked. It is the chip spec. Going OVER 528 is overclocking.

Android freezes when set to 528Mhz

The phone (HTC magic 32a) always freezes up or restarts after some time if running at 528MHz (max) but i have no problems when running at 384Mhz (max)
I has a sad.
Any thoughts appreciated? faulty hardware or is this common?
HTC magic 32a
I have tried many roms.
hofo, RA, misc hero, cyanogen and more.
Got no such problem with my 32a magic running myHero!
ok, thanks for the reply.
I guess I just have faulty hardware.

Im running my overlock widget @ 528 MIN, and 528 MAX. pretty much running it as the fastest speed available on my 32b. Works flawlessly
Ty for reply.
Now tried latest myhero 2.0.2
Running without freezes for 2h
Min&max 528MHz
So it seems to be Rom related??

[Q] what is the fastest oc kernal for 32b?

I got a vibrant and gave my dad my 32b w/ cm6 installed which can be oc'd to 576mhz. Is there a faster oc kernal for the 32b. i know the 32a can be oc'd to 710mhz. Thanks in advance for answers
Nope. There's a thread made by the author of setcpu that shows the effects of different frequencies on the CPU used in Dream/32B Magic (32A uses a different CPU which overclocks better, apparently). 576 made a slight difference but anything over that didn't improve the benchmarks at all.
Thanks. I had a feeling this was the case.

[Q] G2's CPU and GPU.

Hey XDA,
I currently have a MyTouch 3g 32B. Yeah I know, ancient, right? I'm currently looking to upgrade to either a T-mobile MyTouch 4g or a T-mobile G2 (aka Desire Z).
I'm into custom ROMs, radios, hboots, SPLs, kernels, you guys know the drill. I'm pretty dedicated to Cyanogenmod, and I've noticed that they only support the G2 right now, I haven't really heard anything about the MyTouch and CM. So this gives the G2 a big advantage over the MyTouch.
Keyboard doesn't matter. The front facing camera gives the MyTouch a little bit of an edge. I'm leaning towards G2 because of modding.
This isn't really a versus thread, as I have almost all the info I want from gsmarena.com. But I'm having a hard time comparing the CPU and GPU in the two phones. Not much turns up on Google. Obviously the speeds are different, but that doesn't matter much as I'll be overclocking it.
So which phone has a better CPU/GPU? I've heard the G2's GPU is currently the best, not sure how true that is. I will be using the phone for emulators.
The question: what does XDA think of the CPUs/GPUs? Can anyone give me the model of GPU the phones use?
Thanks!
Nick
P.S. Cross-posted to MyTouch 4g.
The CPU in the G2 is the MSM7x30, not sure of the exact model; the MT4G has the MSM8255. The GPU is the Adreno 205, I believe both have it.
EDIT: I'm rarely 100% positive, but almost so in this case
Yeah, the G2 and MyTouch 4G both share the same cpu and gpu. The only difference is the default clock speed of the cpu, 800mhz for the G2 and 1ghz for the MyTouch.

GPU, yes, but CPU, no.
The G2/DZ has the MSM7230.
The MT4G has the MSM8255, same as the Desire HD.
But bear in mind the G2's CPU has huge overclocking potential.

indeed very true
I have heard of cyanogen being on the mt4g by some guys on youtube. Haven't seen a vid with it on it. Only mention of it in video commentary.
If you can get cyanogen on mytouch I would say go with it. It has 768mb ram instead of 512mb with the g2. If you want to run any Sense roms then go with the mt4g. Sense is a memory HOG.
For now the G2 is the overclocking champ at 2.0 ghz. 1.5ghz and higher is commonly 100% stable for most of us. The mt4g has been seen at 1.7ghz stable. Not sure how common that is though.
Keep in mind that devs are still discovering both phones and there is still a lot more to be accomplished between both phones. If you can wait a bit to see what they come up with I would.

I'm running the stock Sense ROM on my DZ. No memory issues whatsoever, plenty of free memory. Sure, it uses up slightly more, but there's still plenty of free memory. I won't run any faster just because you have an extra 256 MB RAM free.
I was running villain and virt. There was just too many slow points even while overclocked. Once while navigating with music it left me with only 12 mb. Not that Sense isn't a fun rom to have, it is. But there's a reason why, from the factory, they put it on a phone with 768mb.
I'm sure they weren't aiming at making the mt4g a better performing phone. Just a similarly performing phone with a slightly more demanding stock OS.

I suggest that was a problem with those custom ROMs then. The stock Sense ROM has no problem with RAM.
Very possible. I forgot the DZ was stock sense. How much ram do you have free after a fresh boot? Most I had with villain was 120 and 160 with virt. Both sat at 80ish under normal use though.
Perhaps MySense is the reason they put 768.
At any rate, if I could get Cyanogen on the MT4G.. and I hadn't already bought the G2, I would. Similar prices and more ram plus higher stock clock speed. Even if I never used that extra ram, just having it there would be nice.

I have not long ago booted my phone, and I have 113+128 MB free according to the Running Services page.

[Q] Overclocking HTC Magic 32A

Hi All,
What is the best application for Overclocking HTC Magic 32A.
HBOOT : 1.33.0010
CPLD : 12

I agree, SetCPU. Free for xda members.
Thanks for the reply. I already tried the SetCPU but i'm not able to find the good performance.
Do you know any other good application.
The program doesn't really have anything to do with the phones performance. If your not getting good performance, get another kernel.

Don -
I've been through a few posts about kernels on the MT3G (I'm running a Fender/1.2 on NexTouch3g which I tried due to a suggestion you made in another thread) to improve performance.
At this point she's not as fast as my Optimus T (I know, Adreno 200 + 512MB ram is going to make a big difference) and would like to know if you have any suggestions on where people who think overclocking (the person who posted here originally, and myself... I figure OC = faster) is the solution about where to read up on which kernels work with what, etc. It's generally (at least for me) confusing...
Any feedback would be appreciated... either try/read XYZ, or just deal with performance the way it is.
Thanks,
_m
I honestly couldn't delve into the details of how OC'ing works for these phones. Overclocking doesn't always mean faster. Perfect example would be my phone. I started OC'ing shortly after rooting it, and had SetCPU set to "On demand" mode (which means it kicks the clock up when in use and lowers the clock when not) with it peaked at 614 MHz. After a few months, it went down the drain. It got to the point that I can't overclock at all. I can install an OC kernel all I want, I just can't install use SetCPU to change the clock speed to anything besides the default 384 MHz. If I do, my phone comes to a crawl. If you really want to get into the deep deep details, I would talk to ezterry, dumfuq, or pershoot as they're the guys leading the kernel forefront for the myTouch. Alas, about mid week I'll be trading my myTouch 1.2 for a new LG Optimus T (thanks to T-Mobile being ignorant) but I'll still have my wife's to screw around with.
