since i have installed the lated Qtek Hero Rom i have noticed that it helps immensly to overclock to maximum 527 and minimum 383. i kno its a bandaid for havving less ROM than the real HERO but im concerne about extended overclocking on this device.
i would like to know if others have overclocked with good luck and not had any problems with their 32B magics and Mytouches.

When i normally used a Hero, I always overclock my device with the same configuration as above. These days im just using remodded I/ON build to get a faster device.
The new kernel (2.17.401.2) has been released and HTC have made some change to clock frequenses.
Code:
# cat scaling_max_freq
528000
# cat scaling_min_freq
384000
Any discussion on whether it is okay to overclocking or not should be finalized if HTC themselves overclock their own ROM.
528 is not overclocked. It is the chip spec. Going OVER 528 is overclocking.

The phone (HTC magic 32a) always freezes up or restarts after some time if running at 528MHz (max) but i have no problems when running at 384Mhz (max)
I has a sad.
Any thoughts appreciated? faulty hardware or is this common?
HTC magic 32a
I have tried many roms.
hofo, RA, misc hero, cyanogen and more.
Got no such problem with my 32a magic running myHero!
ok, thanks for the reply.
I guess I just have faulty hardware.

Im running my overlock widget @ 528 MIN, and 528 MAX. pretty much running it as the fastest speed available on my 32b. Works flawlessly
Ty for reply.
Now tried latest myhero 2.0.2
Running without freezes for 2h
Min&max 528MHz
So it seems to be Rom related??
As we all know, our Heros can be overclocked to different maximum frequencies depending on how lucky we are. So, I'm starting this thread because I'm curious as to how various Heros overclock.
To start off, my Hero is stable at 730MHz. It's the North American 3G version issued by Telus in Canada.
I was running at 710MHz but that was the limit of the kernel.
749 MHz, the limit of the kernel. But the phone runs faster on flykernel at 749 than another one I had at 800
GIYF 10 char
Well,I am a lucky guy obviously! My Hero can overclock @768 and be stable enough, but as the Gallery app crashes at this frequency(dunno why) I use it @749.But maximum overclock?800 MHz for a little less than a minute!
768 max, 19 min
Iirc
I have overclocked etc phones before but I am reluctant to do so on my hero (original ROM 2.1 intact). If I may ask, is it setCPU being used to overclock? Does the phone need to be rooted?
My Hero, and the XDA app, made this post possible.

Yes, the phone needs to be rooted in order to overclock.
I personally use Overclock Widget but I think SetCPU works as well.
710mhz works fine for me. 748 is very unstable and keeps rebooting
Running @ 748 on 3uk bought about 5 months ago.

Just got 768MHz running. Not sure how stable yet, time will tell. XD
Well I can only manage 698 I can push it to 710MHz but it locks up if I put any strain on the CPU (forcing SetCPU to actually ramp up the clocks past 698).
It sux to be me I suppose
My kernel only lets me overlock to 691 Mhz (EzHero default kernel). Where can i get a kernel wich allows higher values?

Dev needs to create or edit the kernel to allow higher values. Kernels are rom specific.
Running stable at 710mhz on a 5month old Hero.
Seems that anything higher than that, and it would just freeze or become incredible unstable!

ditto that
691 is max stable. 3 months old European Hero.
710 starts eventually loop boot animation.
I found that there is little to no difference between 691 and any above.
So I keep mine at 691.
currantly 156>710 i can push it up to 756 but a tad unstable. but been running at that for over a week now..
vallain 12 1 year old hero gsm
Mine is stable at 653 mHz... However it's almost a year old (it's birthday is 7. of august)
I got a vibrant and gave my dad my 32b w/ cm6 installed which can be oc'd to 576mhz. Is there a faster oc kernal for the 32b. i know the 32a can be oc'd to 710mhz. Thanks in advance for answers
Nope. There's a thread made by the author of setcpu that shows the effects of different frequencies on the CPU used in Dream/32B Magic (32A uses a different CPU which overclocks better, apparently). 576 made a slight difference but anything over that didn't improve the benchmarks at all.
Thanks. I had a feeling this was the case.

Hi All,
What is the best application for Overclocking HTC Magic 32A.
HBOOT : 1.33.0010
CPLD : 12
RADIO :3.22.20.17
Android version : 2.2
Mod Version : CM6-FroyRedux-V1.9.5
Base Version : 62.525.20.18H_3.22.20.17
Kernel Version : [email protected] #92
Build number : FRF91
i would like to over-clock my device.
please advice.
SetCPU

I agree, SetCPU. Free for xda members.
Thanks for the reply. I already tried the SetCPU but i'm not able to find the good performance.
Do you know any other good application.
The program doesn't really have anything to do with the phones performance. If your not getting good performance, get another kernel.

Don -
I've been through a few posts about kernels on the MT3G (I'm running a Fender/1.2 on NexTouch3g which I tried due to a suggestion you made in another thread) to improve performance.
At this point she's not as fast as my Optimus T (I know, Adreno 200 + 512MB ram is going to make a big difference) and would like to know if you have any suggestions on where people who think overclocking (the person who posted here originally, and myself... I figure OC = faster) is the solution about where to read up on which kernels work with what, etc. It's generally (at least for me) confusing...
Any feedback would be appreciated... either try/read XYZ, or just deal with performance the way it is.
Thanks,
_m
I honestly couldn't delve into the details of how OC'ing works for these phones. Overclocking doesn't always mean faster. Perfect example would be my phone. I started OC'ing shortly after rooting it, and had SetCPU set to "On demand" mode (which means it kicks the clock up when in use and lowers the clock when not) with it peaked at 614 MHz. After a few months, it went down the drain. It got to the point that I can't overclock at all. I can install an OC kernel all I want, I just can't install use SetCPU to change the clock speed to anything besides the default 384 MHz. If I do, my phone comes to a crawl. If you really want to get into the deep deep details, I would talk to ezterry, dumfuq, or pershoot as they're the guys leading the kernel forefront for the myTouch. Alas, about mid week I'll be trading my myTouch 1.2 for a new LG Optimus T (thanks to T-Mobile being ignorant) but I'll still have my wife's to screw around with.
I'm running GingerYoshi right now on my 32B and its great. But I would like to get a lil bit more performance out of it. I'm overclocked right now to the max of 614 and its stable. I'm just wondering if there is a kernel out there I could use to get up to 710.
I don't think there is a kernel which enables overclocking to 710, but even if you find one, it could burn out your processor. Don't forget that your processor's official max is 528.
I used SetCPU to push my 32A to 710mhz, with no problems.
