Android Debug Mode/USB Tethering on XV6800

hey everyone. long time forum lurker, few time poster :/
i have the XV6800 Titan, unlocked and running DCD 4.1.2 currently with Cricket services working in full. From the MicroSD i am running the recent Android release through the Haret.exe software
Cricket WAP requires a proxy server configured for Android to use WAP. i'd like to access the phone from Linux/Windows through telnet or USB in order to configure the sqlite3 proxy and enable WAP on my phone, however the device only charges and does not appear to be mountable or as a serial device in either Gentoo Linux or Windows XP
has anyone had luck with accessing Android from USB? does anyone have a local (from the phone) method of configuring the WAP proxy? perhaps a simple command line option i can run from the phone?

FYI the Cricket WAP network i am shooting for is 172.28.178.197 (Portland, OR area) on port 8080 requiring a login ('[email protected]', password 'cricket')

i have tried the this from the terminal (Message key on top left of Titan) only to receive a 'Web page not available' error
Cricket network does receive an IP in Togga, but seems not to hit the proxy

ok, tethering is a no go apparently. that should be fine since there is a Terminal Emulator in Android under Development Tools. i can su to root and run sqlite3 from there without the need to use the Android SDK (adb shell)... or so i believe
i am not trying to configure the Cricket proxy server via sqlite3 as explained here
still no luck so far (i get 'SQL error: not an error' ), but i FEEL like i am getting closer!

Cricket - Vx6900 Gps "help 911"

I have a VX6900 that was Flashed to Cricket, I have GPSViewer, Google maps, HTC GPS tool, & Quick GPS. each one see that i have a GPS card but I have never gotten a lock on, I have followed many treads, but I still can't get the GPS to work on my phone. please Help

try gps toggle
my sister flashed her sprint version of the touch to cricket and she uses gps toggle to turn on/off the gps receiver. i suggest that you only have google maps and gps toggle installed, and nothing else. give it a try and let me know if it worked out for you!

I also have mine flashed to Cricket. I have never got a GPS lock on mine...

So anyone have any ideas??

Install Ryans diagnostics on ppc
Install QPST on computer
Install htc drivers on computer
Put phone into diag mode & connect to computer. computer should connect and find new device
run QPST configururation and add new port till you find your phone.
Now in QPST run from top menu start clients service programing.
Select phone
Read from phone imput spc/msl code from the grabber.
Then enter 000000 in the service programing field.
Write to phone
now while in QPST lets get your GPSone ste up for cricket.
Go to the GPS1 tab and uncheck all the boxes then recheck them.
then enter the following
pde ip address 117.29.223.11
pde port # 8080
pde transport IP
Position calculation mobile
Write to phone
close out
I would recommend now to flash a custom ROM here is a link to one of mine. http://www.4shared.com/file/135174580/27254c16/VOGUIMG.htmlinstall on a FAT32 formated 2gig or less msd card and rename to VOGUIMG.NBH THEN INSERT CARD AND PUT PHONE INTO BOOT LOADER AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.
You will need a cricket PRL to load through PST setting.

Do not try to open a data connection untill you have cricket service on the phone.

Just a couple notes to have Email and push services work you MUST have the $15.00 HTML plan on your account and your phone must be listed in the system as a QA4 Evoke.
GPS may Require priming unless you use Ryans Googlemaps.cab

My GPS is working, But I had help there a guy in omaha that did it and it's running nice.

Good glad you got it running Also if you wanted push email to work there is a program called funambol that works ok with cricket.

hi i am tryin to get the gps running using your fix but all of the links are not working when i click on them but just to tell you what im working with i have the sprint vogue flashed to cricket and im running the new nsfan wm6.5 v16 rom and when i try gps viewer i cant find a fix, so is it the rom maybe cause my radio is 3.42.50....so can you point me in the right direction cause my phone is amazing but the gps is a setback and this is something that i really want spent weeks looking for something so thanks for all of your help

I apologize for that I don't know why they don't work here is the GPS1 setting that need to be entered in QPST. Your radio version is good to go for GPS.

Wifi connection problems.

I am trying to connect to my university's wireless.
We have two different wireless ssid's that i can connect to with my laptop.
The first, called UBC is unsecured, but when you connect, it takes you to a web page where you enter your username/password.
The second, called ubcsecure, can authenticate with either WPA2 or WPA ( it shows up as WPA2-Enterprise).
The encryption method is AES for WPA2, and TKIP for WPA.
EAP type: PEAP v0 , Authentication protocol is MS-CHAP-V2
there is an option for mutual authentication using a certification server:
secure.wireless.ubc.ca
I am unable to connect to either using the stock HTC magic ROM, the HoFo community rom, and most recently, myHero 1.0.1
I have tried editing /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf to include

Data wipe.
Try to reset your phone's basic settings.
It could rebuild the information necessary to acquire the specific IP from their connection.
Manually entering the data couldn't hurt either. This is something that usually I would consider consulting the school about. Privatized internet connections could cause a number of issues for those seeking to utilize Wi-Fi.
The NAT settings might be too strict to support a handheld device.

i m here in ubc as well with my htc magic 1.5
when i'm trying to connect to ubc,, it keeps requiring the ip but doesnt connet
and ubcsecure doesnt even show up!
is really frustrating not being able to use internet in universityyy..
i thought by activating the wpa enterprise will work for the ubcsercure, i guess not??
will any of the heros rom work??

Dream. Theres a version for the Sapphire. Maybe give it a shot? ubcsecure still working here.

Did you use the UI setting or you edit the "wpa_supplicant.conf" file manually?
would you please send us your "wpa_supplicant.conf" file or its ubcsecure part? it would be the great help to have a working setting.

I used the UI that came up during first boot. How can I get to that file?

the wpa_supplicant is in /data/misc/wifi. But considering how it works using the ui settings, i dont think changing the config file will work...but please still post it.
I also tried replacing the wlan.ko from the jesterblur rom... and doesnt seem to be compatible with magic which is apparently normal because there is a patch for magic users that fixes wifi apparently. I will try the wlan.ko from the fix soon probably to see if it works.

I'm at UBC with the same problem (I can't even connect to the regular UBC network). I went to the UBC help desk and they basically told me that they don't support android at all. The funny thing is I can connect to the fatport network with no problems but cannot connect to ubc, ubcsecure or eduroam networks on campus. I'm currently runnning on Cyanongen 4.2.4 (waiting for 32a kernel to upgrade to 4.2.5) on a rogers htc magic.
Anyway, the point of this post. If anyones interested in meeting up at UBC to find a solution to this problem it'd be great. I'm hoping we can eventually create a package of some sort that'll fix any android phone but lets focus on fixing the current prob first.
Also @fnkaze - aren't the dream and sapphire the same thing?

Er, i think the dream is the G1 and the sapphire is the G2 aka the rogers magic... well i think the dream has a differnt wifi driver? maybe.. thats the problem
I think the reason why they dont support android is because the stock rogers rom doesnt have native wpa2 support i think.... but the custom roms should have it.. the hero rom does have it... at home my wpa2 wifi works fine
I can also connect to fatport, i think the eduroam is also using the same thing...tho ive heard eduroam seems to work on the rogers rom at different univeristies..
I still have yet to try the jester rom wifi driver tho, ill try it soon...

Thanks for the clarification. And the reason eduroam works at other universities is because the WPA encryption settings are based on the uni's actual/main wireless network. So at different universites the authentication protocols might be a bit different.
What phone do you have? The dream or the magic? The jester rom doesn't work on my magic.

i have the magic, but i think it should work on the magic, they also have a seperate patch to get Wifi working for the it.. so im assuming its possible..

So yeah, Concordia University in Montreal has the same WPA2-Enterprise and this is how I got WIFI to work on my Magic (with HoFo's Sense UI ROM, would still probably work with a rooted 1.5/1.6 ROM)
In fact it will probably work with any rooted Dream or Magic
Remember you need your phone to be rooted for this to work, you will also need to have the drivers installed for your phone from the Android SDK.
- Go into recovery mode
- mount the /data/ folder

- With ADB Pull the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file to your computer (in this example it will go to the tools folder where you have your androidsdk)

- Make a backup of your conf file in case you mess something up
- Edit it and add in the configuration settings given by your University for Linux wpa_supplicant.conf files, so in your case

Honestly that person at the helpdesk probably doesn't even know what Android is. If they says they don't support Android at all, well using their logic any Linux distro using wpa_supplicant.conf isn't supported which OBVIOUSLY isn't the case.
And no the Dream and Magic are far from being the same device.

Ok, I just finished installing the sdk, fixing udev to recognize my phone etc...
The problem I'm having is that everytime I run:

Ok something really wierd happened...I pushed a new wpa supplicant file and the rebooted the phone and it stopped seeing wireless networks! But ubcsecure showed up as a known network. If I long press it an 'forget it' I can see networks again, but still cant connect to any ubc network?

Is there anyway I could use by ubuntu wpa_supplicant settings? Anyone know where the file is on Karmic? b/c I cant find it at all

[Q] I can't access the internet via Data Connection

I have recently installed the DFT ROM om my HD2, I want to sync my contacts using my Windows Live account.
I got this message every time I tried to access the network data connection:
"can't connect
We're having a problem connecting to windows live. make sure you have good reception. if you do, the problem may be on the other end. wait a little while and try again"
and if I tried to access gmail:
"Not updated We're having a problem connecting to m.google.com. try again later.
Error Code: 80072FA8"
I tried both data connection and 3G connection.
does this ROM have such problems? what is the best ROM to install instead of my current ROM?

All the other roms are directly based off the original DFT rom. Only major difference would be the chevron is built in. Was fantastic for me since I had all sort of connect problems with chevron. I would use a rom that has that built in.
As far as data goes you would probably have to enter your apn. I had to. Or an easier way would be to load a rom that had chevron built in and download HTC Connection Setup from the market or sideload it and that should straighten that out.

I just purchased a mytouch 3g 3.5mm jack (unlocked) for my wife to use on our centennial/cellularone plan and cannot get past the registration to start using the phone - how can I get this phone working?
edit: Tried google here and web for ways to skip - no luck
I am on mobile web plan.

Ok so why can't you get past the registration? The google one? All you need to do i create a gmail account and it will let you use the phone!

I have a google account already - my problem is I can't get data to work. I'm using the same settings that work fine on my lg incite (wm6.1) so I either need different settings or a way to skip registration.
I tried to use google sdk to turn on wifi but i am completely lost after install.

UPDATE:
Found out my settings are for WAP only not http and most android phones do not support WAP only internet. called my provider and added the android internet plan and put in settings as they gave them to me - no go. Phone DOES accept sim card and has full signal at my house but cannot connect to data. Because of this I cannot do the first google registration to be able to use the phone. I have tried twice to install the sdk to my laptop (vista) with no success so i cannot use the wifi fix. Is there any other way to do the registration or to bypass it. (4 corners will not work - tried for thirty minutes)

I'm running EZGB on my mytouch 3g 3.5 mm. I remember enabling wifi to register my gmail account to my phone. See if you can do that. Please PM me if i can help in anyway. Maybe you can flash EZGB on your phone, if you have clockworkmod recovery, and we can walk through it.

I got the sdk running on my 8 year old linux desktop so I'm gonna try to activate wifi.
update:
Every time i try to type in adb(anything) it says not found so I just tried "adb" says not found even though I can see it in nautilus file explorer.

Found how to make terminal open adb - just drag/drop in a terminal window - now my device will not connect to the pc.
Anybody have any ideas?
Can I install a rom that has wap or will let me register over wifi? Without being able to access the phone the first time?

OK I got the sdk installed on my vista laptop and htc sync installed also - how do I make adb recognize the phone so I can turn on wi-fi?

my carriers tech support team found out how to modify the standard settings to make it work - i would post the modified settings here but google pushed 2.2 froyo update to it via wifi and it lost the settings - but it works now
