Whos picking up a Slide today? - myTouch 3G Slide General

Im prolly picking one up on my lunch....Ive been stuck with my broken Cliq for too long.
How many others are picking up today?

I did! and i'm loving smoothness of the phone

Yea, Im really not worried about the latest and greatest, I just want a stable phone that does what it supposed to, and does it well. From what Ive heard from people that already have one, this phone pulls it off. That, an I have a pre-req of a physical keyboard, which made me not a big fan of the N1...should have mine in a couple hrs

I picked mine up already and Im impressed by the speed, but the touch screen is dare I say too responsive, when hitting the harware keys at the bottom of the touchscreen it somehow always does something on the touch screen not intended, and swype always picks up the wrong letter,I swear you barly hover your finger over this thing and it senses touch, kinda anoying, other then that my only complaints are that I set up my faves and after reseting the phone I had to do it again.I like the ui and the sense widgets but could do without the bubble icons and the bloatware,I mean for having 512 internal memory only 130 was available to me stock, and after puting about 7 apps on it's already down to 100,I mean christ my original mytouch is running 2.1 with 20 apps and I have 250 mb internal left without apps to sd.Hopefully some roots this and I can remove all the tmobile crap that you cant even use over wi-fi anyway.plus 2.2 is supposed to open twice the memory and add apps2sd support.the camera could be better, but all in all the phone is very fast and responsive so I wont complain too much, but will take some getting used to as I still love the original mytouch and it's lightweight design and the touch response seemed perfect.2 more complaints though is the slide out keyboard, not a smooth transition, feels kinda roughopening and makes a horrid noise, and the 4 row querty will take some getting used too,and the battery cover removal is assnine I can see it breaking easily.well thats all for now, will share more if I find anything intresting.

Picked mine up today. Not sure if I like the Faves app on the phone, but I'll play with it and see.
Only thing I'm noticing is that I get "The process com.htc.bg has stopped unexpectedly" message about every 10 minutes while messing with it.
Im still adding apps to it, so I'm not sure how it will react once it starts getting loaded with processes running.

the faves widget is fine but the app itself is kinda hokey, not terribly practical.

I've had mine since early April and still LOVE it

I would pick it up if there was some way for me get it at the 129 price.. I already have 2 tmobile lines, mine, and the wife's.. dont wanna pay any more a month than I am arleady paying, I dont see the need to IMHO.

My lord... your punctuation is terrible...
I am thinking of grabbing one this afternoon. I also have a pre-req of a physical keyboard, so being with T-Mobile has made me stick with my G1 for this long. My only gripe is the number keys do not have their own dedicated row like the G1, but I can probably get over that.
I also am just looking for a stable phone. With the G1's limited internal memory, I was left to rooting and hacking it up, and it's all getting on my nerves. I am ready for a solid working stock phone that also has a physical keyboard, and this looks to be the one to use. It even has a 3.5mm audio jack to boot!

Picked mine up today, as an early upgrade from my busted G1. SUCH a good call. It runs smoother than I ever expected, the browser blazes, and the only gripes I have are the weird bubble icons and the actual Faves app.
Also, much to my surprise, Flash is installed and working on the phone, though most of the video websites I use don't work. However, being able to see the full national geographic page load on a mobile device... well, let me tell you, it's refreshing. I can't wait 'til they release the Froyo update.

Might be a stupid question here, but does anyone know how to change the wallpaper for the lock screen? I feel like I've tried everything.

It's pretty simple, but you have to do it through myModes. Hit the menu button while you're on your home screen, then go into myModes. Select "Change your Mode" and while you're there, you have options to change your wallpaper and lock screen, as well as whatever else.
Good luck.

I was gunna pick it up today, but the lady on the phone told me if I hold out till the 26th i'll hit my 18 month period on my contract and it will drop $50 in price. Gunna wait till then, my G1 still works.

Thanks slobatch. I think that's about the one place on the entire phone that I hadnt remembered to look at until you mentioned it.

Just got mine. The Genius button works pretty well, but I've never used voice recog stuff ever since it's been around on phones, so not sure how much use it will get.
I do like it's speed. Just trying to get the feel for it currently, but so far I like it.

I've been about half and half on the voice recognition. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Really picky about some things

I use Dragon dictation for voice input, and for those of us to speak the Queen's English well, it works. Awesome!

Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide

The Voice so far has not failed, its seriosuly has to be the best voice controlled app ive used. Its been dead on in calling, and hicupps a tiny bit for text...which is all ive used it for thus far.
Gripes?
The sides the the keyboard are edged, they really should have been rounded (I can see myself taking a dremel to it lol), it gives it a minor uncomfortable feeling, but Im also comming form a Cliq (its leaps and bounds from that phone) so my hands are prolly still "formed" to it.
The phone as mentioned before...is a beast...and he potential it has once its been rooted is going to be fantastic. Now if we can just get a dev to pry their eyes from their noobN1s (thats right mikey, im lookin at you ) and take a look at it. The bloatware and stuff isnt much concern to me, because it will be taken care of once its rooted.
What would set me nice till then is a docking station, and a slim gel case..other wise..to me, its the best android phone w/ a keyboard tmo has to offer.

I picked one up this morning and I am glad I did. They nearly sold out before I showed up (20 minutes after the store opened). Right now I am in the process of reloading my music and CoPilot software while my fiance is napping. She is beyond tired of me testing this phone out today haha!
Mini-Review:
So far it has been very swift and almost too responsive. The phone part of it is very well done and the "linking" structure to hook up your social networks to contacts is very intuitive. Faves....meh. It has potential but I'm not seeing it yet. There isn't too much "bloatware" that concerns me on this phone that I have run in to. The keyboard is GREAT but I can see the concern in regards to the alphanumeric section of the keyboard being confusing. You get over that after a few emails though. My only gripe at the moment is that the market has been really slow and wonky but the same thing happened when I bumped up to 1.6 and 2.1 with CM5 on the G1. The market should be smooth in the next day or so. I'm sure the influx of everyone redownloading their paid apps is not helping. Ok, sorry for the randomness but I just thought I would throw some thoughts out.

i have to agree about the faves, bloatware and the 'odd' keyboard lettering....i also experienced the market being slow though i must say, the 3G has been 'blazing' in nyc...using the speedtest.net app i've consistently hit speeds well over 2 meg!!!!!

If you were disappointed once, do you come back again?

Ok my fellow nexus one lovers... I had a Nexus one for about a month, and upon first opening the phone, there was dust, so I immediately got a replacement. I thought it was cool that next day when I show up at work, they had sent me my replacement so I was quite suprised on the service. Anyways, the phone was great, loved every aspect EXCEPT when texting, it wouldn't register my delete, and instead, a stupid smiley... in a way, I was getting pissed cause google was "smiling" at me when I was trying to do something else.
So my question is, I really want to go back, or wait for the HD2, but I feel the nexus is a better fit, especially when I use almost all the google features... but the texting/screen issue is a factor... I know people all over have this issue, and there isn't a resolution yet (that I've found) so what do I do? Wait? Suck it up and get it again? What are your suggestions???

It took me 3 phones to get all my issues fixed. If you're worried about fast customer service, get a phone that is supported directly by a carrier (Mytouch3g, droid, etc).
I have a good friend who just got a droid after being a huge crackberry fan. He loves it.
The nexus one is a pilot program so there will be growing pains to endure.
In terms of the touch issues watch your other fingers around the edge of the touch screen. I notice whenever my screen goes wonky a finger that shouldn't be touching the screen is.
Keep in mind you can get other keyboards than the stock that are agruably better anyway.
Good luck and thanks for supporting Android.
Didnt realize you were talking about screen issues, since using Cyanogen I havent expierenced them, but I dont know if they've been fixed for regular users.
hmm I didn't pay any attention to it after I rooted/flashed cyanogen... guess I'm going to have to think about this one a little bit. but overall I loved it. Do you guys think it will be fixed.... someday?
Well its an issue that theyve been made well aware of on their support forums so I would assume theyre working on a solution, I dont know why they wouldnt be.
just curious, but are you using the stock keyboard?
No, im using better keyboard right now and use smart keyboard and swype from time to time, just like to mix things up every once in a while, I type so fast on this thing now that smart keyboard and better keyboard have pretty much made swype useless to me. Smart Keyboard is free in the market and Better Keyboard is like 2 bucks and is pretty similar but is theme-able which I like. I also dont use auto correct or suggestions or any of that stuff so I dont know how they work for those.

Smart Keyboard and Better Keyboard are really just the stock keyboard with minor differences and more customization (but nothing innovational), if you really want to enjoy your typing experience - I suggest installing the HTC_IME, the typing creation cooked up by HTC for their Sense UI phones.
Nothing really beats it, I don't see how anything could. Swype though, is lovely.
I still feel like I type faster on smart or better keyboard, it could be I just havent gotten used to HTC IME yet, i used it all the time on my mytouch but ive just gotten so use to these keyboards that I dont even have to look to type, like typing this whole thing for example. I guess in the end its all just personal preference.
whats the "htc ime" ? link? seems interesting

Thinking of Selling my HD2, any suggestions to keep it?

I know you guys have seen a million of these threads, i thought my thoughts on this phone would change. I have taken a lot of your suggestions. I have Flashed the phone, to try to get rid of the laggyness and freezing. I am running RSTG Sense UI rom, and while the phone is a little faster. I am still getting freezes, restarting, it never properly updates facebook/twitter/weather, without freezing. I really want to keep this phone, but the allure of the nexus One is starting to become too much, especially after watching my buddy pick up a Droid and playing with it.
I just want to know what i am doing wrong, i haven't installed any programs on this, i have a few albums, the pictures that came with it, basically what i am getting at is, i did not put anything on it, to make it this sluggish, 15 mins before i decided to type this, my phone froze, i tried to check an SMS from the GF, and couldn't get past the unlock screen, it just keep freezing.
I am open to suggestions, i want to keep this phone, but it sounds like Android for the HD2 will never happen, from what i heard, its still a good year away, and even with the release of the EVO, we still aren't promised to get an android release for the HD2. I am able to deal with Winmo, i have a touch pro and a fuze, hacked/flashed to death. So it's not entirely winmo.
I just need to know whats a good ROM to run, i have the utmost respect for all the devs that cook these ROMs, and put the time and effort into making them, but i need one that is going to make my phone stable, and not crash. I went through a lot to get my Dream phone, only to find out, its been a nightmare since getting it.
So i am turning to you guys, what can i do to make this phone a little more stable. Please spare me the usual crap talking. I am asking because i really want to keep this phone, and i have tried the flashing. This phone should be butter and not hiccup this much.
Any help is appreciated and wanted. Thanks for reading, and i hope i was clear enough. I read these forums everyday, so please don't tell me to search, hell my GF hates that i got an HD2, cuz i lurk here 24/7, i wake up and go to sleep reading XDA lol.
Get a nexous one
get the nexous one
The HTC/Sense SMS app is the cause for most of the problems of this phone. Disabling it completely and using the Windows SMS app would prevent much of what you're describing. Regardless of what ROM you use, if you use the HTC/Sense SMS app, you're asking for trouble.
I have the Kumar Premium 1.5 and don't have issues. Once in a long while, the phone will slow down, but then it's back to normal. I also use MMTaskManager and cleanRAM regularly to make sure I don't have lingering things in memory that could take up resources since I've been downloading and installing apps more than usual.
But, that said, I say get the Nexus One. If you need someone else to convince you to keep the phone after you've had it for a while and already tried a few things, then my guess is you'll find some other niggles about the phone that will irritate you down the road. Better to cut your loses and get the Android phone.
Good luck!
Well Divx movies, 4.3 inch screen and its a phone that you can browse the internet...Is it perfect.....Hell NO!!!!!!! Does it have to be restarted all the time..Probably 5 times a day if your running apps. It freezes all the time. I run custom roms. Is there a better phone? Not until EVO with android. By that time Skyfire will be out of beta for flash support and maybe the kernal further along supporting more video formats... I had the NEXUS loved it.."i lost it".but to slow on tmobile. Now i have a 4.3 inch screen i cant go smaller only larger.
I will try to disable the SMS setting and use Windows, and i agree, once you have a screen this big, its really hard to go smaller, thats why i posted here. I just want some tips on how to make this thing run properly. A phone with these kind of specs, should not have these kinds of problems. A little slow down here and there is understandable, but the constant freezing/restarting is annoying.
I don't want to just get rid of it, maybe i should try another rom after i change those SMS settings.
Any other suggestions on how i can make this phone perform the way it should be performing?
i really want to keep it.
Oh and i always use task manager.always.

That's what she said
try another ROM, and try disabling some of the tabs in sense you don't use. Sense is the biggest culprit to crashes in my experience. No matter how powerful they make the HD2, if you keep a resource hogging piece of software running perpetually, it will slow things down. I close the tabs I don't use to minimize the performance draw. You can also try turning off the weather animations and the weather screen altogether. The weather animations are only fascinating for about a day anyway.
Trying another ROM is always a good route. I've used Kumars and Energy so far...both are very stable for me, and hardly ever crash.

Thanks for the reply, i was thinking of using Kumars, i keep hearing great things about it. I don't want to turn off the weather animations cuz they always amuse me lol.
i am using engery rom the apr 9 regular 21898 very fast and stable rom for me so far.
after use it for 2 days just find out most the crash was cause by opera mobile 10 so i either change to the opera mini 5 which almost the same with the opera mobile 10 or i need to EXIT it competely. and by the way did you hard reset you hd2 after flash to the new rom? it will help for the lacking issue too
Turn off the security code on the lock screen! That thing mucks the phone up and slows it to a snail. My wife's was constantly freezing with that option on.
Also search here, download and install QuikMenu 2.8. Set the XButton to close on short tap and minimize on long hold. Then set it to close Activesync. Then go to pg 2 and make the size 16 or greater to make it pretty. FYI QuikMenu only works with roms that have the Start Menu on top. If you use one with the Start Menu on the bottom use Xtask. Having these programs will eliminate tons of programs running in the background but give you control over which ones will and won't.

If you're going to try Kumar's, he's coming out with a non-HTC Messaging version of his 1.6 soon. I'm waiting for that and his Titanium version that doesn't have Sense at all to try.
I've heard that the Elegancia w/o HTC Messaging may be an option as well.
Well, if you do decide to eventually sell it...
I'd strongly suggest investing in another Android handset. Perhaps the upcoming, myTouch Slide. It's quite a marvel in comparison to the original fan-favorite, the G1.
The build quality is excellent too, most likely it will feel, "less fragile" and easy to snap than our HD2. LOL!
^^lol no i am okay, think i will stick with the Nexus One, its the phone i always wanted, just decided to wait, because i knew the HD2 was coming soon. Thanks for all the tips guys, i did get an interesting offer, a Nexus One and 200 bucks. it;s tough, thats a nice chunk of money and a good phone lol. Still thinking about it.
I do know i need to try another ROM, this one is slowing my phone down like crazy, i haven't have to do 3 restarts in a day, in a very long time, since my early TP days. but i will try everything you guys recommended first.
I hate to say it but I have the exact same feeling about this phone... I'm Sitting on the fence between selling it and sticking it out. I really just bought it for hardware reasons thinking it was gonna slap it to my TP2 but I'm more into the Android OS. Granted Windows can DO a lot, Android has a market place that I don't have to waste that much money on. In A lot of ways I wish this was a nexus one lol
Currently I'm using the T-Mobile My Touch (rooted) / TP2 - NRG ROM / and now the HD2 - NRG rom blah blah blah

HD2 is the best phone ever. If you are really into it you will feel its power. I like cooking ROMs myself and I really enjoy the feeling of tweaking the phone just like it was made for myself.
Well, to be honest, HD2 is not suitable for everybody. If you want a cellphone that is easy to use, then it may be good to get an Android phone or an iphone.
I bet people who love HTC and Windows Mobile mostly are not afraid of software issue and willing to conquer all the problems. They will eventually make this phone work for themselves.
I remeber testing my frieds winmo 2003 back in high school and getting my first HTC wizard, winmo was beautiful back then I have had 7 winmo phones and You get use to reseting the phoene 5 times a day and dealing with other crap
however when the android came out and it completely change everything Now there was another option (I hate the iphone I think its over priced for a stupid friendly phone that's missing a lot of things that ny PPC2003 was already capable of doing) soon I have to go back to android
YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME unless you can deal with the laggingnes rebooting 5 times a day apps that are not compatible with every winmo phone all on asuper expensive phone (lol with the same money you can get a N1)
i dont understand why everyone keeps saying this phone lags i have had this phone for 2 weeks now and has only frooze up on me once. the only time my phone reboots is when i install a program that is recommended reboot after install. i dont get any laggs what so ever i am a power user from web to games to music videos pictues gps on a daily basis and trust me i know what it is dealing with lagg is because i hated the tp2 it would freeze up everyday take for ever to load programs always error this error that. so i think maybe you should exchange it for another one maybe its that phone.
also maybe it could be that when i 1st got the phone i did all does registry tweak that boost the performance on the phone in the general thread. maybe you should do hard reset and then the registry tweak.

That's a very good deal. I'd be all over that if I weren't using my HD2 as my work device. Hell if I ever ran into a Nexus One for 200 bucks, I'd sell my iPhone in a heartbeat.
Honestly, unless you really need WM functions, and if you can live with a smaller screen, the Nexus One is the way to go. The screen on the Nexus One may be smaller, but that AMOLED screen is lovely....very deep blacks, even though the colors are a little over-saturated. Can't wait till that technology comes over to full sized TV's.
It was quite a change going to the HD2. I sat in the store playing with one for 2.5 hours before I decided to get the HD2. I knew it was going to be a learning experience coming from an iphone to WMobile but I could see straight away the amount of personal customization this has over the iphone. I personally cannot see how anyone can even compare it to the iphone as some do.
I spent nearly 15 hours in the first few days getting to know how to navigate through the phone and the file structure and redoing itunes. I read some great tips on this forum, such as formatting SD card and making all songs Mp3 so as the music player would not freeze and it's not locked up once. It's like a personal computer in my hand next to the iphone. Since I was still on a 2G iphone, the HD2 is so much faster, it's not even funny. No lock ups unless I do not restart after software install or mods. It seems that I have the latest tmo manila. My phone works great and the screen is incredible. It doesn't fit in my pocket like my iphone did but until there's an organic flip out holographic screen of some sort, it's the price I'll pay for the size of the screen.
Took off RTSG(sp) ROM and installed KUMAR's, i must say, Kumar, you saved this phone, your ROM is amazing, i haven't had any problems with it besides a little lag when i go to the home screen from time to time. Man this made me love the phone even more.
Did get an offer off, 400 dollars and a Blackberry 9700 brand new in the box. I was tempted because of the money, but in the end decided to keep my HD2. As long as it keeps running like this, i am satisfied. It's nice when everything is working the way it should be. thanks kumar, and thanks to the rest of you guys who responded to my thread.

Thinking of switching from a G1 to HD2, worth it?

Hey all,
I am thinking of switching from a G1 to the HD2 but still deciding. I like the fact that I can easily load things in to it from my pc (apps, updated ROMS for the OS and all). Does the HD2 have things like that? I liked that my G1 can play nes and snes games and such.
Only thing I do not like on my G1 is the battery life, but then again any phone with a nice big screen is going to have ****ty battery life. Anyone have experience with the battery life?
Just want to see what kind of apps, hacks, and what not there are for it before I get one. I see it has a 1ghz processor, so wondering what it actually is capable of : )
Thanks guys,
Dan
(P.S. I dropped my G1 in water 3 weeks after I got it, so for the last year I am glad its even working at all lol)
I'm sure all those things are capable on an HD2, i currently don't have any games like that..........yet. But depends on how much the battery means to you, just browse the forums, you'll find lots of posts about "****ty" battery life. For me, my battery is fine. Depends on usage. As for "hacks" farthest I've gone so far is Radio and ROM flashing, which i think I'm becoming addicted to it... any more in depth hacks or warez, have to look somewhere else.
it really just depends on what you wanna do with a phone and if ur willing to use task manager on the phone a lot. I found that closing apps via task manager will help you avoid lock up problems other people are having.
i also came from the g1.
but if u like android so much, i say just wait for another android device.
Android does not equate to WinMo.
Both OSs have problems and advantages over the other.
If ur not sure, i suggest you play with a friend's HD2 or something.
I also suggeest you use the task manager when trying it out because you will probably just complain that its laggy, unresponsive and buggy if you don't use the task manager wisely.
Using task manager goes with out saying, it is a windows phone after all : P
I purchased "advanced task manager" for my G1 and use it all the time, so I am used to that anyways.
Android is neat and all, but I am really liking the youtube review and such I have seen, and what this phone can do. Especially since my G1's camera is so ****ty, and it has no headphone jack, which was a huge mistake on their part. : \
I came from the G1 too. I felt the G1 was a bit slow. Also, my G1 battery life seemed horrible. Probably around 12-14hrs before 10%-0% without too much use. Maybe the battery was old. The HD2 is currently giving me much better battery life and I use it more. I barely used the HD2 today, but it was unplugged at 9am and now it's almost 7pm with 82% battery left.
I miss the notification pulldown and the better app integration with it. With gtalk on WM, you have make about 3 taps after you see the notification to get into gtalk.
I miss the power and news/weather widgets from Android. I don't think there is a gvoice app for WM. I would have liked to be able to use gvoice since I finally got an account a couple of months ago.
I also miss the physical keyboard (a little) and the Android onscreen keyboard implementation a little. The WM onscreen keyboard is a little tricky for me since there are a couple of areas that if tapped on hide the keyboard or change it. I think it should be a long tap (instead of quick tap) to activate those annoying functions.
I never use the app store too much on Android, so I don't miss it.
My reasons for the HD2 was the faster processor and huge screen. Also the ability to play any video format.

it really just depends on what you wanna do with a phone and if ur willing to use task manager on the phone a lot.
I also suggeest you use the task manager when trying it out because you will probably just complain that its laggy, unresponsive and buggy if you don't use the task manager wisely.

x2. you can pretty much do anything on the hd2 as you can do on the g1 but differently due to the differences in OS. i find it harder to customize the original rom on the phone vs. the stock g1 where more apps and tweaks are readily available whereas on the hd2, you gotta dig deeper (look no further then xda) for certain .cab files that are not in the marketplace or the open market to proceed with certain theme customizations.
yo, peben! this is ryan lol, good to see you posting here too.
It is worth it just for the camera, which is leaps and bounds over the G1, I had a G1.
The screen size makes it better. Bigger is better says my wife.
Beware!
Massive stability issues.

I dropped my G1 in water 3 weeks after getting it a year or so ago. Instability is one thing I am used to. I have to pop my battery out at least twice a day. My camera doesnt turn off when I close it and just sucks battery even more horribly then the phone does normally.
Ear speaker works when it wants to, same with loud speaker.
If it is anything better then that, I will be happy.
** EDIT ** Also, is it possible to transfer contacts and what not from my G1 to this easily? I have a good few.
I came from a G1 as well and it has been well worth it for me. Yes the operating systems are different but I can do just about everything now that I can do on my G1 and its, in my opinion, more customizable. Even though I loved it I don't really miss anything about android, in fact I was getting a little bored with it. Battery life for me is much better, multimedia options are better. The speediness, ram, rom and speediness are also huge pluses. Various people have had various experiences but I never had any freezes or other issues with my using stock or custom roms.
I came from the G1. For the first week I thought I may have made a mistake.
I was VERY VERY wrong.
HD2 beats the G1 in every way.
The only thing I miss is ease of finding apps and Google Nav.
The truth is though that Copilot 8 is real Nav system (you don't have to be online to use it). It's just not integrated with gogle maps the way I wish it was.
If you love your G1, stick with it. If you want the best phone on the market,,the HD2 is where it's at.
You'll have to lean how to make all the settings and customizations (there are WAY more ways to customize than the G1) ad get used to using Google to search for apps instead of the marketplace.
After that..you'll LOVE this phone.

I do miss those apps!! Coming form Nexus one.
I have navigation in my car, so the only thing I really do with my G1 these days is text, weather, and occasional youtube because it does not do much because of the water damage. I take pics with it sometimes and upload to picasa, but they look ****ty.

I've have the g1 and also a hd2. the only thing I really miss is the apps for Android and ease of finding them. I never used the marketplace (it sucks!) except for like a browser or to DL or a Facebook app or something . to bump up to the hd2 is definitely worth it. specially comin from a g1. when I got it I was amazed at how quick and responsive it is. but I missed Android too much and ended up getting the nexus one so now I switch back and forth lol. if u don't think ull miss the OS all that much its deff worth getting. battery life for me I could make it bout a eight hour shift before it'd go into the red but again I was surfing the net on that thing all day at work ...days when I wouldn't power use it the battery wasn't too bad . also with the HTC sense it really covers up the Windows pretty good. and there is a emulator app for it ..nes snes genesis ...with multitouch !
*edit*
one more thing. u can sync ur Google contacts with the hd2. life saver :]

Also coming from G1. I really loved Android and my G1 but when I saw the HD2 I knew it was over. Android is a great OS with a ton of apps, but the phone was just too slow to really take advantage of Android's capabilities.
I was planning on getting a Nexus One eventually, but I always like to try the phone out in the store a few times to see if I really like it at far as speed and ergonomics. Not having Nexus Ones in stores really hurt Google here IMHO as I probably would have gotten one.
I can say for sure that the HD2 is ultra fast with NO LAG for me. I can listen to podcasts, use navigation, switch between apps all with no freezing like I had with my G1. Plus I see way more "oohs" and "aaahs" when I use the big-ass screen in public.

I came from G1, trust me well worth the switch. Processor speed and screen size combined with swype make it great. I was not in love with the idea of no keyboard, but have adjusted

Well, I installed swype on my G1 just to test it out and I really like it, but now I already have it on my G1 so its not the biggest selling point lol. But so far everything in this thread is telling me its the right phone to switch to
Another G1 to HD2 person. I do miss android and hopefully soon we will have a port for the HD2.
But, the hardware is super. I love this phone. Great camera, great call quality, large beautiful screen, fast, plenty of customizations, many rom's to switch to if you want.
The more I think about this phone I would like to have android, but only as an option for the apps I like. Otherwise, winmo will do.

hows everyones slide running

just wondering now that the slide has had a couple days of usage how is it running for every? is it still fast? any fc's? any other wierd problems popping up? im just asking cause im thinking of getting one but want to know if there are any problems with it.
I personally wouldnt trade it in for any phone out on the market right now. I would take this devce unrooted over any current android device on the market. Once it gets rooted...it will be unbelievable.
Being that I require an actual keyboard, its not a hard decision, but its far exceed my expectations. There are quirks that bug me...like the pull down notification. Having the recent used applications in there was a pretty stupid idea when its x5 easer to hold Home down.
You know theres some asshole of a sr. software engineer that pushed for that to be included + sizes to be the way they are, and someone under him going "i told you so" user interface issue like that dont just go over looked, it couldnt be more blatant.
But if thats all I have to complain about, Im in pretty good shape. This phone is nearly perfect (for me)
I got the chance to play with an Incredible today. I let him mess with my Slide. His had a bigger screen and a nicer display, but my Slide was MUCH faster than his phone, even with all of the bloatware.
I just noticed the Incredible was real choppy when going from window to window and in the app drawer. I was expecting much more.
hey all
i read a lot of these forums here on xda but dont really post too often.
ive owned the G1, MT3G, Cliq, Cliq XT, HTC Hero, and have had enough experience with the Samsung Behold II to say I wouldn't let someone give me that phone... having said that.
i have had the mytouch slide for about a month now (ha, only now ((since launch)) can i speak of it)
i dont use any task killing manager app whatsoever.. literally.. ever..
this phone is butter.. the 512 ram and the QCOM 7227 really help this thing glide... it has also been confirmed by HTC that it will receive the 2.2 Update. for that.. i cannot wait.
I'm loving this phone, and I'm the type that can always find fault with phones. Its as snappy as ever.

Mine has been running great, no fc's, still super snappy and I am figuring out how to get everything to play nice together (htc mail with gmail app, my custom ringtones, etc) I am still quite happy and impressed, although I would dump this in a second if the supersonic came to tmo.
Btw, holding home still brings up your recent apps (but I'm sure you already knew that!
K
Mine is butter as well. No slowdowns while running multiple apps.
I do wish the HW keyboard was a little more functional; autocorrect without having to turn off swype and maybe a directional pad. Its not bad though, just have to get used to it.

I bought mine on Tuesday have widgets on every screen.speed an responsiveness is top notch and this has the fastest web browser I've used on a mobile device to date.my main complaint and the only thing that really bothers me is watching my internal memory dither to nothing as install apps and themes.I'm currently at 50mb and that's with only a few apps and some themes installed.froyo can't come soon enough,if I get apps2sd I'll be fine with this phone.however if we don't get an apps2sd solution soon I'm afraid I'll be getting rid of this.storage is definitely a deal breaker to me.
Absolutely wonderful. My G1 screen was starting to die, and not having another HW keyboard choice is what forced my hand. Thought I would be getting a mid-range stand by till Q4 of this year, but I have been pleasantly surprized. It's small/thin, yet extremely potent for what it is. And though I'll probably be one of the few, the Espresso Sense UI is nice. I would simply like custom control over the theme. /agreed @ once we get root, this thing is gonna soar.

Phone is quick as hell. Way better than my G1 in its prime (rooted and unrooted).
One thing that isn't working is hotmail. All other email works (exchange, yahoo, work) but hotmail doesn't work with stock or K9 email. Is Microsuck hating on Android?
Four words (faster than my HD2) are you sure this phone doesn't have a snap-dragon processor or is wm6.5 and sense is just that much slower than android

Definitely blame stock WM6.5. I tried the HD2, and while I know I could have vastly improved performance by installing custom roms, tweaks, etc, I just didn't feel like putting that much effort into a WinMo 6 phone when we know that later this year Windows Phone 7 is coming. There will never be a major update for the HD2, which is sad considering the hardware is magical. I loved everything about that phone except everything that ran on it. I'm very happy with my Slide, and to be honest, it's a lot easier to hold than the massive HD2.
I've had mine for 24 hours now, and I can say Advanced Task Killer is a must.
When I first opened it, I had 36mb free. I scrolled through the list, and noticed that not only was every app I had ever run present, so were some I've still never run, actually, almost every app on the phone!
I started killing them one by one, and when I killed Twitter, my free mem jumped almost 60mb! After I killed everything else, it's like a new phone. I LOVE it.
I'm a die-hard WinMo guy, I actually was in the store *just* to buy a Touch Pro 2 or HD2, and wanted only to give the MT3GS a try because I could return it and buy the WinMo phone later.... Nope... I love it....
I've had mine since launch day and haven't used any of the task killers.....usually around 50 M free (damned GPS memory hog programs) and have no problems with lag.....quite unlike my G1, thank goodness!
I came from a nexus one and can I love this phone the speed is roughly the same and I love the keyboard also coming from the n1 all I can say is that the reception on the n1 is terrible this rocks
Mines is running so smooth and the on screen keyboard is great! I don't like how they changed the usb port instead of keeping the same one as the mytouch that I had so many chargers for. Not a deal breaker though.

Loved this phone. I switch from a g1. Which feels so big aftedr having this bad boy in my pocket. Adv task killer is a must and the g1 seemed to get a little better service. But the swipe text is awesome. I never hardly even use the slide out keyboard.

well so far 2 days use and honestly both myself and my brother agree. We love this phone I would not trade it in for anything out right now at all. The speed has been constant the phone is just solid in general and I really love mine so far.
I love how the phone works so far but the 3g reception has been horrific compared to my g1

Verizon LG G4 Screen Responsiveness - BAD

I was under a family plan with Sprint until today with my old Optimus G (yeah I don't upgrade often). I work in a warehouse and was on the upper level, and my friend who I love so much for this pushed me and I dropped the phone 25 feet and the screen went to oblivion.
I've always been dissatisfied with Sprints cell reception so I decided to switch to Verizon and get a new phone, the G4.
Got back home after switching over, powered on, made a few calls everythings great. Then I had the opportunity to scroll down a page. Lord have mercy.... My Optimus G kept up with my finger 20x faster than this phone does. The lag between my finger movement and screen movement is unbearable.
I couldn't find anything online so I disabled dual window and it helped a LITTLE.
So I came here looking for help and advice as this phone should be performing MUCH better and give me a much better experience.
Other than this I absolutely LOVE this phone
Also no screen protector. I find myself tapping hard or twice to register it.
No such issues on mine. Sound like a hardware problem.
No issue with mine. A few threads went over this problem too. People had to swap out their phones
I believe it is all the Verizon bloatware installed on the phone. I disabled all of the bloat applications or any that I would never use and also got rid of the LG widget on the home screen. It is noticeably faster but there is still bloat that can't be removed without rooting. My Nexus 5 was honestly faster but we switched from AT&T to Verizon because the service at our house with AT&T sucks.
I don't think it could be a hardware issue because when I open apps it opens them insanely fast with no delay, it's just scrolling
Could it be because I'm not using the stock launcher and instead Apex Launcher?

Nope its not the launcher. Its something buggy with the software or just the way the IPS screen works that can hopefully be patched via an update.
I was having major issues when I started using the phone but I disabled dual window and also sort of changed the way I used the phone by making sure I'm pressing it firmly.
I would be returning that phone. If it's doing it after a fresh factory reset, there is a problem. Mine is very responsive. No problems with lag or touch/tap.

This is a known thing that has been talk about in many threads..lg knows about it..it also only is happening to the us variants...it's most likly a software problem so we will just need to wait for an update..or for too an the aesome devs to work there magic an see if they can't fix it
I disabled a bunch of bloatware (but not all of it, not sure what I will use) and it is already night and day. I've had a rooted phone without bloat for so many years I had no idea that bloatware would make that much of a difference. It is still a little behind my finger but as buttery smooth as it is I won't complain.
Thanks for the input guys!
Could it have anything to do with the temperature of my hands? They're pretty cold right now

Agreed. Not a single problem with my G4
I'm also hearing late June for VZW update. Maybe fix some issues.
Well after work I went to the phone and it was snappy as can be. I suppose it needed to warm up or something. But now it feels like a lizard gliding on ice.
Thanks everybody!!!!
Cannot wait for a safe root to come out. Although I would be wasting 10 bucks a month for insurance I assume right?
