Considering shifting to HTC Evo 4G from X10i - EVO 4G General

Hello;
I am considering shifting to HTC Evo 4G from X10i. What do you friends here suggest?
Also I heard about issues with HTC's 8GB SD Card. Is the problem solvable with replacing it with 3 party Micro SD Card?

I would read the other thread about the Massive Defect(NOT)...but read it nonetheless.
Formatting the card seems to resolve the issue. A third party card would work just the same.
A Non-Issue which people are making an issue about it.

That means it's ok to go with it.
How is the music player of Evo compared to iPhone? X10 really sucks when it comes to music.

I have solved my slow HD2 issue

Hi guys,
I have been struggling with this issue since I have bought this phone, but today I have solved it. When it slows down , I have checked the task manager and it says the manila.exe was eating 98% of the memory. I tried everything, then one of my friend needed my memory card and I gave him mine and then suddenly my HD2 went back to race car situation. I played with it 3 hours nothing changed so that concluded that memory card was defective. I have formatted it nothing changed and bought a new one. Now everthing is perfect. I cannot say this is the solution but it solved mine. You may try it.
Good luck
Bro, thanks but this problem has been answered before.
Its known that the micro sd m2 slows down the phone.
so basically the memory card it comes with is trash and you'll have to replace it or keep your phone running slow?
Didn't work for me.

i am not sure what class the sd card is that comes with our hd2's but i experienced the same thing. i just upgraded to a class 6 8gb card and the difference has been huge for me in terms of performance.
actually just your average class 4 SD card would make the phone perfome WAAAY beter.
I remeber when I purchase my HD2 and notice that it came with a 16GB class 2 card I was actually disappointed so I started using my 8GB class 4
So what ur all saying is that the major cause of phone lag is attributed to the cheap memory card?
Going to a class 6 from the garbage class 2 that came on the phone made a huge difference for me.
it will also improve the battery, especially for the people like myself that use the phone as an MP3 player. The battery drains so fast when I play music even with screen off....Im gonna look into a better sd card. It sucks though, the pack a craptastic Class 2 sd card and a small ass 1250 battery to power this massive screen. That still baffles me.
we shouldnt have to buy these
we should all just call tmobile and complain or take it to the tmobile forums, we all paid good money for these devices, last thing i need to do is go by something my phone already came with beacuse tmobile decided to cheap out.
When I got my phone I immediately swiched it out with my blackberry 16gb card. Everything T-mobile is trash except for the phone itself, I wish Verizon or AT&T wouldve gotten it. Coverage is behind horrible in my city with T-mobile. LOL

It's the write speed. They all read about the same. It's fast. But writing to them is much slower so they class them. You'll see a little number next to the company logo on the card. (2). The class 2 isn't horrible, but they had a batch. I used mine for a long time with no problems. But I did upgrade to a class 4 and things were better. Class 10 is the fastest that I know of but they are pricey.
Wow, i feel stupid for not knowing what the different classes were.
thanks. i'll be getting a new memory card soon
I rebooted my HD2 a couple of times because it was running SLOOOOW. Didn't understand what could be causing it - so using the dotfred task manager I discovered that for some reason Microsoft Voice Command was eating 100% of my CPU time...ha. I disabled voice command and all went back to normal. I rebooted a couple of times & re-enabled voice command and it seems to be ok now.
yeah the hd2 is a really great phone, the only thing keep alot of buyers away is the lag/freezes ): I think rooting and putting a custom rom will also solve it.

OH HELL! There really is a lil "2" icon on my sd
But then... It was pretty fast like 2 weeks ago for me. now... it just slowed down... i have two "class-2" cards 2gb and 8gb ones, and 2gb is actually much faster rotfl. I just having troubles with BROWSING my files on card cause even my "file explorer" lags when i do >.> So yeah.. it used to be better..
and yup. i hard reseted my phone and formatted my cards. didnt really helped me.
i tried replacing my memory card from class 2 to class 6. it still hanged
i still have to wait for the text message/s to arrive before i can resume doing anything on it

The only only reason, i didn't buy one.

Ok this is not another i hate nexus s thread, but it's just my own opinion, on my only main issue, with the nexus s. I know to most of you, this will not be an issue, but for me the lack of a micro sd slot, put me off. I went into my local Carphonewarehouse and they had them in stock, i admired it and what a beauty it was, and ofcourse i new before going , it didn't have a micro sd slot, but the temptation was too much. I made the same mistake, when i bought my 16gig iPhone, and by the time, i had tom tom installed, which is over a gig, in size, fifa is also nearly a gig, and so are most of the racing games, i was fast running out of memory. By the time i had my music on the phone, it was already grasping, for space. I also like some android apps to download YouTube to watch later, and i also have a tendency of keeping my over 3000 plus family photos and video,s on the phone,so the 16gig, is just not enough, in the long run. I have an iPhone 4 32gig, and even then i still have to constantly uninstall and install apps mainly games, due to space, so for me this is the deal braker, and am struggling to understand why they left this out, because with the explosion of gaming due to come to android, the lack of expandable memory, will be a right pain, mark my words on this one.

You can't compare app sizes on iPhones and Androids. iPhone app sizes can range from 5megs all the way up to 2 f'ing gigs.
Android apps have a limit of 50megs.
I actually have an iPod Touch 2G, 8gigger, Mod Edit: Talk of Pirated Content, and I'm not even up to 4gigs of it filled. I did have an iPhone 3GS 16gig a year ago and had 4 GPS apps, and I only used up about 8gigs.
You have have some real issues or an app hoarder if your 32gig iPhone is running out of space. (Unless you use it for music too)
But since you're having space issues still with a 32gig why have an iPhone at all? It has no expandable memory either. Rather weird you're bashing on the Nexus S with no expandable memory, yet you have an iPhone 4 32gig with no expandable memory and also having space issues.
Also btw, on Android, you can upload all your pics to picasa, and they are all accessible from the Gallery app at any time.
EDIT: I think this complaint about no microSD card is the worse microSD card complaint I've ever heard... comparing it to iPhone apps.... sigh.
remember that the 1gig of space for apps is not the 15 gigs of space as an SD card, so Fifa may be extremely large but the initial app is installed on "phone memory" and the extra is downloaded to "sd card"
The lack of an external SD card is bothering me less and less the longer I have the device. App space is a non-issue IMHO as they just don't require much space. While it would be nice to carry my entire music collection around with me, I wouldn't be able to do it in an acceptable format anyway as I have something like 120GB in FLAC and ultimately, I don't generally need to have more than 20 or 30 albums at hand.
All of this will be moot once Google launches their music service. Haters like to point out that streaming isn't a solution due to 5GB data caps, but I stream Last.fm in high quality mode an average of 4 hours per day and have never hit my cap.

20-30 albums at hand ! I find even that too much. For me it would be 6-8 albums that I m currently listening to wanting to listen to. Thats more than enough for me for a month long period Then swap them
the missing microSD support does bother me quite a bit, as I'm a heavy user. (16 GB of MP3, 1.5GB of Apps, not counting my collection of 720 HD movies, now i can't have all of that after switching from SGS, due the space constrain)
but luckly having a true unlimited internet over 3G/HSUPA it's a little bit less of a worry, but i'd still prefer to have access to Removable storage.
So i started this topic in DEV http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885837
if they can unlock the USB to allow and mount external HDD & or USB memory sticks, then we'll be in good hands
Does anyoneknow if the NS as a sd card inside the phone or if its using nand memory?
If its a microsd inside, couldnt we swap it if the phone was taken apart?

I don't even use my iPod anymore. I only said that as an example, and I hate Apple and only have an iPod for testing and experience, not for personal use. For the Android, I've actually bought tons of apps. The refund period for the Android helps with making purchases too, too bad it's 15 minutes now though.

16GB limit is probably the most limiting factor of the NS. That and the lack of a notification LED too.
NAND is supposed to be "lightning" fast but my experience with copying files to and from the NS is that it is way slower than an SD card. I know there are some tweaks out there to speed it up but still.
I wonder if the internal access for the CPU and apps is as slow; if so what is the advantage of NAND over SD?
Joe
I see no big issue with the amount of memory and lack of expansion. Your looking at a very small group of people that need more memory build in. 16gb is plenty for the majority of users.

I'm not sure why people keep creating these threads? We really don't care why you didn't buy a Nexus S. We did and we know all about your reason and it didn't bother us as much obviously.
Per forum rules, don't get XDA in trouble; please don't talk about pirating apps, games, or movies. Thank you, and enjoy the holidays!

Milestone 2 music issues

Hi guys, just bought this phone and albeit its awesomeness, i've been experiencing some sound issues.
When I listen to music, some of them in random parts just stutter for a fraction of second. Its not much but happens quite a lot and that annoys me. It happens with connected music player and winamp.
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
Reformat the microSD card in your computer, then add your music back.

I've just formatted the SD card and it still stutters. Swapped my 8gb card with my brother's 2gb one and it keeps stuttering. I'm afraid the problem is the phone...
I dont know what to do...
(I'd appreciate If anyone could move this thread to the milestone 2 section. Thanks in advance)

No SDcard... is it really that big of a deal...

So I see this conversation taking over a few other threads. I am not trying to play clean up I just think we need a thread for it since it is a heated debate.
So no SD card... What to do... some say online storage and others say OTG.
I currently use both. I am on Sprint and running the Epic 4G Touch. I am lucky enough to be on a WiMax area so I can take advantage of the unlimited data that Sprint offers. But even with that I still use OTG.
If I take some pics and vids I usually start putting them on Picasa and Youtube pretty fast. This keeps my internal 14Gb memory a little more open for new pics and vids. I have an 8Gb SDcard and it is full of music. to this date I have only ever ran out of space once and I was shooting a 30 min HD movie on top of what I had not cleared off. I then started carrying a 32gig USB stick to help alleviate the lack of space but even that can get cramped so I have a 500Gb 2.5" hard drive and it works very well so far.
The other thing I have done, because we all know that Youtube recompresses your video's, was setup an Android on a stick TV device with an FTP server. Attached to that guy it a couple 1Tb harddrives. I can throw my vids up there as well when in a crunch.
As you can see there are lots of options to replace a missing SDcard slot that can only ad 32Gb of space unless the company paid the extra buck to allow 64Gb. That to me is still limited and I find it just as easy to OTG some movies off and on my phone as the USB sticks are easier to manage than opening my phone up to remove the Micro SDcard and put it into a USB adapter.
Again this is not a deal breaker for me as there are far to many options to a SDcard and some are way more convenient.
No SD is not really a problem for me, though a 64gb version of the handset would have been welcome, to many others aswell. I know one is due to be coming to the uk but not soon enough for some.
Not an issue for me as I have very little music/pictures on my phone and just apps.
USB OTG is more than enough for me

No big deal at all for me.
So all in all looks like a non deal breaker for most. But there are a lot out there that refuse to buy it because of this omission. LOL
I really hope that the 22nd is the date for the US carrier's because this baby will be in my pocket that very day!
It's not a deal breaker for me, the thing I like about the sd I'd if something happens to the phone how would you get your backups, photos, etc. off of it. I plan to keep it backed up to my computer or ex hard drive. Just saying

At the end of the day, the only people that will struggle are those who are used to using devices with a lot more storage.

For me it's not an issue at all. I used to only believe in sd card storage but then I started to realize I've never even filled up an sd card to it full capacity and I've only ever had an 8gb card so 32gb is more than enough for me I can't even see my self getting close to 16 gb.
Not to mention I've had an iPhone for about 2 years now so I've gotten used to not having an sd card anyways.
with my phone history realistically whether the phone had memory card or not I haven't even used 11gb of memory ever! especially when I get bored of things I delete them. I have a 32gb memory card (29gb was free space) and I still have 23gb left! and I have tonnes of videos and music and pics on my memory card. Just generally if I want to watch HD content etc I put it on my laptop which has 750gb hard drive plus a bigger screen to watch things on.
In terms of backing everything up, my most important things are backed up on my laptop and my memory card and memory stick so even if the phone was to die, I would have everything available anyway as when I take pics and videos etc I put them on my laptop then memory stick or memory card. I suppose having a card slot makes thing easier but i am not fussed. Have had xperia S, One S and One X with no memory card and hasn't bothered me.
Never took the SD card out of my Nexus One in almost 3 years. So to me the SD card is pretty much just a potential security problem, I don't care about that at all. A removable battery is nice, though. This is actually the only real problem I have with the HTC One, that the battery is not removable and it doesn't have a waterproof-excuse for this like the Xperia Z.
I've been saying this since the One X was announced last year. Is it a big deal? No. Simple.
In a year or 2 there won't be any expandable memory. Apple made it a standard years ago and clearly survived. I hate to compare to them but it's a simple concept that works.

That's mainly because they increased the internal memory. With greater onboard memory it does negate the need, plus switching is just clumsy.
I'm coming from a 16GB iPhone 3GS and never filled it.
I'm just glad HTC went with a 32 and 64gb variants. Because if they would've made the one with just 16gb storage capacity, I don't care how good the device would've been, I still would have not consider it.
I rather have an sdcard slot. But with a 64gb internal storage, I'm good with.
I have a 32gb in my mytouch 4g and I'm already way over half of storage taken.

The smartphone obviously isn't a replacement for a desktop (or media content server), but is sure has become a replacement for all the other portable computerized devices we used to carry: PDA, GPS, camera and mp3 player, etc. So, what kind of storage would one need to replace all those devices? Camera storage of 8 - 16 GB is not unreal for a collection of photos and videos, and music player storage of 16 - 32 GB is not uncommon for a collection of music. That's pretty conservative these days.
And ya, cloud storage is great, but c'mon, let's be realistic, we want all of our music and video content available locally so that when we don't have connectivity (like on a plane) we can still access our collection of music and videos.
32GB is almost NOT enough for many users. It is good that a 64GB version is available. I only wish the 64 GB versions were more readily available.
With ~ 25 GB of user space left over on a 32GB phone, that's not enough for me. I could make it work, but I would have to make some serious compromises about what I would have to leave out of my music collections, just to add a movie or two to watch on a trip.
An SD card slot would have solved the whole thing.
Just because Apple makes lots of money selling products targeted to users who care less about options than your average techie, doesn't mean it is a good idea to copy them.
I'm seriously considering the HTC One, but the lack of SD card and battery replacement has ALWAYS been a negative point against the whole prospect. The screen resolution is a plus, but they are starting out with points against them with the SD card problem.
And I really don't understand why they would do that.

DAC skipping

Has anyone had the DAC frequently skip? I noticed it doing it frequently and then shut it off and it doesnt happen. possibly could be lag on my 200GB memory card but i didnt have that problem on the V10.
Same problem here. Especially it was noticable at first day, i am experiencing less now, but still experiencing this. I hope for good suggestions.

Yes, i even use fat32 formatted sd card which i used with another dap before v20. Now i am formatting it on LG V20 as exfat, will it be helpful? I never experienced this kind problems with my previous phone Meizu Pro 5. my sd card is Lexar 200gb.

Same problem, very infrequently. However, your question is interesting. Could the problem possibly be because it's traveling from the card instead of the internal storage? It really shouldn't matter on a phone with these specs, I would think?
I never noticed the dac skipping on my first v20 or my third replacement v20 but i did notice it on my second v20 replacement device... Mine would skip on pandora and soundcloud but i figured it was T-mobiles network so i never complained. But i find it interesting that its happening with music already on the device. ?

I reformatted my sd card via V20, still experience skipping frequently while using both player pro without dsp and stock music player.
