How many Evos?? - EVO 4G General

How many Evos per sprint store are they going to have in June 4th for sale?

probably depends on population density in that specific area, current sprint customers in the area, etc etc.
how about, they'll have more then 1, less then 5,000 per store.

anyone know how many Sprint made for this first release? You always hear iphone numbers but no one else seems to release their's

Availability !

Just got back from making the rounds to 4 sprint stores.
Two each corp stores/normal outlets.
At the one (corp) store I use they said that even if paying full price....ie, no upgrade no contract, they were only getting 10 each at the stores.
As I traveled to the other stores they told me without me mentioning the 10 per store thing, that they would only be getting 10 units.
My store guy says to go to Best Buy and get one and then come back and he will activate it and throw in a few accessories.
They ALL said that the big box stores would be getting more than the sprint stores would be getting.
I know this might not make those who have an upgrade eligibility available to them, but those like me who will be paying full price might need to know.
That's it.

You must live in the middle of nowhere, because the big sprint stores out my way (Baltimore) are getting way more than 10. The closest one to my house said 200 atleast on launch day.
Where do you live?
I checked at my local Sprint store yesterday. They said that they had no idea how many Evo's they would have. She said it could be 5 or 20. I'm going to another store tomorrow to see what they tell me.

Oh ****, dude. I'm in Greenville right now too. Where did you ask? I'm planning on getting mine from the Haywood Rd store. Let me know your results.
I'm just outside Chicago, NW 'burbs.
1 of the stores is a repair/tech center, they all said the same thing and I didn't say anything about numbers till they did!
But it would be hard to believe that ANY sprint store gets more than 20, that number of 200 sounds just bragish by the store clerk.
Best Buy in Naperville Illinois, states they will have enough for Pre-Orders with a cut off date for guaranteeing them of 28th this month.
I Went in some big sprint dealers in my local area in New Jersey. They all said that they wont know how many they would be getting. But they know whoever pre-order will most deff get theres before those paying full price or upgrade with no pre-order.
Most likly doing pre-orders on phones like this. They send in how many pre orders they got and just order that many. Same with the palm pre. people had to wait 2-3 weeks before they got another shipment in of palm pres.
Like the user said above i think they would just get about 10-20 and half of those or most will be for pre-orders. If those people dont pick they order up with in 2 days. then its just a first come first serve thing
Today I went to a Sprint store that's by my work (scouting a "plan B" store in case the one by my house runs out) and asked the following:
Q: Are you taking pre-orders for the EVO
A: No.
Q: Will you be opening early on the 4th?
A: No. 9AM like usual. (the one by my house IS opening early)
Q: How many phones will be here on the 4th?
A: Not sure but if you get here before noon you will probably get one. Probably not if you wait until 7PM.
Q: Really? Do you anticipate a long line when you open?
A: At the Palm Pre release there were 15 people already in line when I opened.
Q: Any advice?
A: (Laughs)If it ends up being like the Palm Pre release, which had as much buzz before it as the EVO, it will be crazy for a couple of hours and then dead.
If you come here around 11AM or noon there will probably be no wait.
So, it sounds like there's going to be more than 10 phones there on the 4th. This is a small store that's kind of off the beaten path so I imagine the larger stores will have more.
I've also got a guy at a Radio Shack that said he will put one aside for me if I call him in the morning of the 4th. He made it seem like I had nothing to worry about. I think I'm (sort of) covered but I am still worrying and obsessing about it
HTC's next super-phone should have a time machine built in to get me to the next upgrade.
yeah the store b y me pretty much said the same thing. the manager said around 100 phones. they are opening an hour early. he said come around noon and there should be no wait. he said sprint orders phones from numbers from recent launch dates. he said when the palm pre released the store got 90 phones and they were sold out by the end of the day. he said the evo has got a lot more attention so it should be around 100 phones this store will get. oh yeah, no pre orders.
watzone69: I checked 2 stores in the Pflugerville area this weekend with much the same list of questions...same replies. Come before the end of the day, should be ok.
Radioshack where I live said they are getting 10 phones plus the number of preorders they get.
Sprint is anticipated a large order. If you call most of the large stores they will not be taking pre-orders not because of the lack of interest. They are not taking pre-orders because they will most likely have enough to feed the frenzy for the first 4-6 hours.
The Droid Incredible was the same way. There wasn't a long line but more so of a steady pace that last the whole day. It was gone the next. Now nationally backordered.
Just get in a little early or call on June 3rd and make nice with a manager and tell them you would really like one on June 4th. I did that with the Incredible and they held one for me. I just got them to talk about the phone, how business, do you like the phone, etc. Then they said - "Hey look I will hold one for you, give me your name".
Don't spend your wheels worrying about it. You have to remember there are Best Buys, Radio Shacks, Sprint Stores and Independent resellers as well. Lot's of ways to get one.
The Radio Shack I went to said they haven't even had any inquiries about it. After I pre-ordered mine he said he would call the district manager and make sure they had it for me.

Best Buy would... LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I don't see any official, or even speculated sales numbers with a quick google search, but there were rumors of how many units were given to Best Buy outlets. (I think it was minimum 4 per store, and 75 per store that sold T-Mobile contracts.) There was also a list put out by Best Buy that showed what stores would have larger allocations. The one I went to was supposed to have a larger allocation from that list, and it did. I saw about 30-40 units in the locked cabinet when they pulled mine out (I was the first in line), so I'm not sure about the 75 per store figure. Granted, I went to a store in a ghetto location, so they may have gotten fewer units than a typical store.
I'm seeing reports of stores out of stock and even online back orders now, so you might be able to guestimate the sales count by counting how many Best Buys there are and multiplying by 4 or 75 as appropriate.

The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling!!!

At&t did not buy T-Mobile today. At&t announced its INTENTION to buy T-Mobile. This sort of thing is subject to regulatory approval and could take YEARS to approve, if ever. My guess is that its a move to inflate at&T's stock price because I don't think this aquisition would ever withstand anti-trust examination. Not to mention that everyone from Verizon to Sprint to Cricket will file injunctions to block this deal on exactly those grounds tomorrow. Relax.
LMAO at the thread title

Usually the company buying the other company's stock goes down.
ATT has made wise decisions to establish their position. Their betting on the Iphone was a solid winner and now that the cash cow is being milked by others ATT looks to continue growing through this acquisition.
This deal will go through and then Verizon will buy Sprint. Sucks, but it makes sense for these mega companies. It will suck for the consumer.
Your theory does hold merit except you're overlooking one MASSIVE detail. The negotiation terms.
'In the event of the deal failing to receive regulatory approval, AT&T will be on the hook for $3 billion to T-Mobile -- a breakup fee, they call it -- along with transferring over some AWS spectrum it doesn't need for its LTE rollout, and granting T-Mo a roaming agreement at a value agreeable to both parties.'
I don't think AT&T wants to fork over $3 billion and part of it's spectrum for a ploy.

I think on closer examination, you're a bit off-base.
One of the overlooked elements in this story is that AT&T has agreed to pay TMo/DT US$3 billion along with giving TMo very favorable roaming agreements, if this deal doesn't go thru. Trust me, AT&T fully expects this deal to survive scrutiny. Yeah, they'll have to make some sort of concessions, maybe even sell or give up some spectrum, and maybe agree to keep prices at a certain level for a period of time, for example, but they fully expect to be the owner of a certified preowned cellular 'net with about 34 million subs, in about 12 months.

I agree completly with bed red picking up sprint, especially if sprint goes lte, if sprint stays wimax then there is a chance for them to maintain their independance, but they need to start making money
The at&t mobil deal will go through, since verizion probably covers the same markets
Remember when big red bought altel, they had to sell the towers in areas, verizion already had towers, and there were no other towers, there was such a small number of markets affected I think like 10 or so

Do some homework - bell was broken up in 1984 because they were too big. Do you think the SEC is going to just give a do-over? And that $3B is about AT&TS operating budget for a fiscal quarter. If their stock price goes up 1/10th of a percent they will make that back. The purchasing company only loses stock value if they don't meet financial forecasts AFTER the buy. The information that AT&T will double its spectrum is almost guaranteed to raise their stock. Watch the ticker tomorrow. If ATT doesn't skyrocket when the bell rings ill be shocked. And it isn't a permanent thing. This would basically allow AT&T to borrow the money to improve their network from the market - INTEREST FREE. And Verizon will never buy Sprint. The biggest mobile company in America can't buy one of the other biggest companies in America. Never happen.
Regardless, only time will tell. My point is that this isn't a done deal. It will have to survive legal challenges from any number of government and private entities. I don't think it will happen, YMMV. And there is no way it will go through in 12 months. You can't buy a baskin Robbins in 12 months. So just relax.

That was 1984. Completely different regulatory environment today.
When's the last time the SEC or DOJ blocked a big telecom merger? Didn't happen when SBC bought then-Ameritech; not when Bell Atlantic/Verizon bought Alltel. Didn't happen when SBC and the old AT&T merged. Didn't happen when Comcast snatched up NBC/U recently, and Comcast is hated coast-to-coast.
And you can bet real $$$ that the regulators aren't going to block this one, today. They'll eke out concessions, and then the only question remaining will be "what color will the new logo for the successor company, be?"

VZW was forced to give AT&T some of Alltel subscribers. I believe that was the FTC's doing.
Correct me if I am wrong but in 84 ma bell owned most if not all phone lines, thus had total control over every phone. Vzw owns towers, and att owns towers, sprint owns towers, att would not be able to own all towers, and have complete control over wireless signal.
The funny thing is all the fiber back bone to the towers is probably owned by at&t

But the deal still went through. That's my point. The FTC, Justice, SEC all might have some requirements -- and yes the combined company might have to shed some subscribers. But not anywhere near what makes a real difference.
At the end of the day, right now, I put the chances of this deal not going to closing at way less than 1 in 10.
I think it will go through because AT&T has deep pockets. If it doesn't fall through they'll have to cough up money among other things. They are fairly confident that it'll go through. I work for AT&T by the way and have read many communications about this today.
If this merger can't go through, then all the Ticketmaster monopoly acquisitions shouldn't have either. That didn't stop anyone from declaring it illegal. As long as the buyers have deep pockets (which AT&T does) and "buy" out the people who decide these things, anything could happen. Companies can get away with anything as long as they butter up the right people.
*coughs* called it.
zomg! did some one say the sky is falling?

Sprint Must Turn Over iPhone Sales Data To AT&T To Help Defend T-Mobile Merger

Sprint has to hand over its latest sales numbers to AT&T, including sales numbers pertaining to its latest addition – the iPhone. According to Bloomberg, the court ruled yesterday that Sprint has to hand over sales numbers in order to help aid AT&T’s defense against a lawsuit attempting to block its acquisition of T-Mobile.
Sprint started selling the iPhone on October 14, which it later reported was its greatest day of sales for any single device ever. The logic is that since Sprint’s number are growing, an AT&T/T-Mobile deal obviously wouldn’t impact the carrier as much as it says it would.
Sprint is one of many who have filed suit to block the deal, citing that the deal would negatively impact its position in the marketplace. AT&T has reportedly pushed back its target date for completion of the T-Mobile deal to the first half of 2012. It originally had anticipated closing the deal during the first quarter.

Verizon Personal Survey Email

Boy did they pick the wrong guy to select to ask about Verizon and it's customer service evaluation. I don't have screen shots from my phone(thought about it after completing it)
But here is my response I had when I was asked why I wouldn't recommend Big Red and what they can do to change my response....
"Place more emphasis on the third party developers and customer's wishes. And pay more attention to online petitions. I can honestly say that with my recent upgrade I was More than seriously considering moving to a competitor! The Samsung Galaxy S3 locked bootloader debacle to name an example. Security and warranty issues seem false when it is said an unlocked version of the same phone will be added to vzw system but at a unsubsidized cost. I have every product Verizon offers. But not out of loyalty or even respect. In fact the opposite is true. This is mainly due to your policies and practices. Verizon products today are like Microsoft products of the late 90s and early 00s. I use them not because I would WANT to but because in my area your coverage is SLIGHTLY better than your competitors. And if you don't change the draconian nature of my experiences, YOU as a cooperation will lose out the moment your competitors catch up with your coverage. I.e. AT&T and Sprint. They booth have the same products (sgs3) but without a locked down bootloader. Soon you will too. But it is too late for me and thousands of others. Please keep me and thousands of your customers happy and placate our requests and petitions. You still have a chance. But it is fastly slipping by in this competitive market."
At the end I was told a Verizon manager will call me and personally discuss my responses. This was a few hours ago but nothing yet. I am hoping I get a call. I like to think I kept it cordial enough to merit it.
I want to see if any one else in the xda dev community got this survey as well.
Plus I think this is my first option thread. I'll return to lurking now.

I'm so burnt out on Verizon. I had Alltel back when it was Alltel and I loved them. The coverage was great and the EVDO speeds were good and customer service and prices were excellent. Verizon bought them out and I could just feel them put the vice grips on my wallet. Then they made unlimited data only if you had the plan but the minute you took it off it was gone. The prices were the same for less (if you were off of contract you could get an unlimited data and SMS package for $19.99 on top of minutes on Alltel and that was OK). The only reason they had for better service was that they have battery and generator backups at each tower that they could come up with. They had the fastest network in my old town but the minute I moved I got T-Mobile. Yeesh much better.

When I was Stationed in San Antonio, Tx back in the early 00's, Verizon wasnt as popular in that part of the country as Nextel or Sprint; but where i grew up in Central Jersey, everyone i knew was on Verizon. to mitigate the cost of calling everyone I had to drive like 45 min. out of town just to find the nearest Verizon store. Like i said in my OP, I dont use Verizon out of loyalty, despite my near decade as their customer, I use them just because they are there and the more reasonable choice. I think that might be part of the problem customer servicewise.
PS No Verizon manager ever called me back.... Too bad
