Replacement for QTek 9000 - Nexus One or Motorola Milestone? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hello,
I'd like to replace my QTek 9000. Which of these two phones would you choose?
- Nexus One
. Motorola Milestone
Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages to buy them through a contract, rather than unlocked?
Thank you

Go for device with qwerty keyboard, from this two this is Motorola Milestone

I decided to stay with trusty HTC and got Rhodium, I´m quite happy with it

..
i wouldnt upgrade! =D!
however, id say a HD2 is nicer than both of them. Android is all web-based ****, it's horrible without data. and i believe an OS should be self contained, not dependant on the internet for every function. even calendar doesnt work without data on android.

I could think on this as a better candidate to replace Uni than milestone

Think we have the same tastes Orb ......

I went to the dark side* (well, no, I am lying, it's not really) and.... got Xperia X1.... IN ADDITION to my Uni and LG Prada. Must say, I am quite pleased. With my choice.
Played with X10 today - lovely, but just not lovely enough to make me WANT! madly.
* I bet you all thought I got an Iphone! Hahaha

My chain of collected and kept WM devices: O2 XPHONE IIm, Imate Jam (Magician), K-Jam (Wizard), SP Jas (Breeze), JasJar (Universal), Touch (Elf - still think it was the cutest little phone I ever had), LG KS20 (got TF3D ported and thought I can die a happy girl) and SE Xperia X1
All others I fixed for other people, played with and gave them back in exchange for money I also have TYTNII waiting for holidays when I will finally get to fixing it.

That´s a nice collection dear
I never thought of you with an iPhone
I´m quite satisfied with Rhodium but will like a bigger screen and faster processor, that would be the perfect upgrade!

If you hate your universal or if you wanna buy one...

If you hate it :
I've bought myself a NOKIA E61 few days ago and I can say : no Windows Mobile powered phone, including Universal, is even in the same league as E61!!!
If you're fed up with a size and weight of an universal, if you want a RELIABLE and excellent working 3G/Wi-Fi enabled smartphone then look no further.
I was using Windows powered PDA/Phones and smartphones for last few years and now I still can't get used to not having to soft reset my phone AT ALL, that the battery lasts THREE DAYS, that it doesn't hangs up with no reason, that IT JUST WORKS the way it should with brilliant reception and call sound quality.

I know that maybe I shouldn't say that on this forum, but as an EXEC user since 2005 I just know what the problems with them are.
And if you wanna buy an EXEC:
Mine is for sale
Used, boxed with all accessories, factory unlocked, Windows Mobile 6 installed and running
plus brand new spare battery
plus 4GB Mini SD card with SD adaptor !!
COLLECTION ONLY IN LONDON!!!
Please PM me with your price offers.
Wait few more days or weeks and You ll see how reliable E61 is. My friend bought it few months ago and he have problems with it - mainly with not answered calls and signal drops during conversations. I ve checked many different mobile platforms - standard Symbian, UIQ, pocket pc and palmos treos.
All of them have their own problems. And I always considered windows as the most unstable platform but it really turns out theres no difference. Even few days ago We spoke with my friend about his nokia comm. 9500 and problems he have with this phone.
Seriously - I think those devices are too complicated for now to be absolutely flawless. Such a geeks like us can play with them, upgrade rom countless times etc . but if You need something strud buy normal, simple phone.
In fact I am also tired of endless small problems in my Universal and I am considering to exchange it with IE Motorola K1. Of course I am not completly out of mind and want to buy additionall Fujitsu P1610 as a "neccesarry" addition.
Best regards,
Piotr
I like Symbian phones, but as phones, for PDA devices you still can't beat Windows Mobile.
It's comparing a bicycle to a car, yes, for short distances, they are both good, and in city areas a bike will get you there faster and cheaper, but there are some things you just can't, or at least wouldn't want to do on a bike.
Every device has it's place, if you're so happy with the E61, I would suggest you were using the wrong device for your needs for a long time, rather than the PocketPC's not being very good.

how true... how true... I've had an HP h6315, and now an iMate JasJar... Ever since the HP, I can't get along with an "untouchable" screen! I even put my fingers on my friends Sony Ericssons' screen before I say "sorry for the fingerprint, man, I though I was a touchscreen" ;-)
The Nokie 6270 is pretty good, especially with its VGA camcording @ 30FPS with digital zoom! Wish it was more "PC-like" and "touchable" ;-)

Need you opinion on the HP iPAQ hw6955

I have had a Dopod 818 Pro for 3 years now and would like to make the switch to another phone. I might want to switch the a Kraiser, but Rogers is offering this phone for $350.
For hw6955 owners, since there is no upgrade future for this phone, plus other issues...would you have bought this phone again?
I think this one is a great device. U should buy it IF you can stand to wait forlonger process time. It lag a lot.
i have one new locked to rogers will sell it for $500
then if you see a better phone and want to upgrade sell this one and get upgrade
It lags a lot?! That's not good! with 416MHz I thought it would have been really snappy.
This is my recommendation on the HP 6900 series. I've been using the phone for almost four months now and I have been very happy with its performance. Compared to a Treo 650 (my previous phone), this device has been very stable and reliable. I have tried installing numerous applications and I practically never experienced problems with it. Being able to use skype on this phone has likewise been an awesome feature. Also, you can do numerous tweaks to further improve its performance.
The complains I have though are as follows:
-The qwerty keyboard is clunky
-Battery life will not last you more than 10 hours after just a few minutes of wifi use combined with several phone calls. My solution to this, I bought an extended battery from Amazon.
I hope these helps...
Alvin
Thanks for the comments, Rogers offered me a free HTC 621, so I'm going to take it
Awsome PDA
I went from the i-mate JASJAR to the iPAQ hw6955.
The hw6955 is an awsome device if you know how to use it properley.
It does not lag, unless you install all your programs into the main internal memory.
Solution: install programs on a mini SD card and reserve the internal program memory.
Battery usage: crap if you use it constantly, better get an extended battery.
Standard battery power is 1200mAH.
Better off getting the extended battery which is 1800mAH
I wonder where to buy the battery? Is it original?

ENJOY
As for your original question, I for myself can not find justification to pay more for the "new" devices
I like the 6900 it has almost everything, the most stable device you can find and it has good quality of hardware
as for 3G communication take my word for it that you will find a lot more converge of unsecured WIFI network then you will find good 3G network
(I'm talking worldwide)
As for WIFI communication = mainly free
3G = most chances a lot of money

agree with you, the 6900 device has it all... if the new 914 would be a VGA 480x480 scree, that would get my attention, but now, i dont think so.. will wait 1 year and see what they put out then

Athena 2, Thoth, thoth 100 - When will it be available

Good day,
I am a current X7501 user on ATT in the USA and wonder if anyone has an update a to when the next Athena will become available in the US that will work on the ATT’s wireless network?
Of course asking HTC got me the usual "We will be glad to assist you with this question.... unfortunately we cannot comment on yet to be released products"
Anyone have anything they would care to share?
Also curious if MS Voice command will work with WM 6.5?
Thanks in advance for your response(s).
Claude H.
I have read on the internet that HTC have scrapped plans to make the Toth (at least as we know it as a 5 inch device). The HTC Leo is supposedly its successor and a 4.3 inch clamshell device. I hope I am wrong but that is my understanding.
I heard the same thing
So sad! I've been saving my pennies for its supposed release this year... we'll see :\
I <3 my athena!
I mentioned this before based on my observations...because of poor sales of the X7510...HTC might be reluctant to add a successor to the Athena line. You can't blame the public, HTC's designers are stupid to think that a few additions to the X7510 will make it a hit. Not to mention their stupid idea of taking off the hardware buttons and joystick design.
The HTC Leo...according to others will probably have a slider keyboard. To be honest, I prefer a clamshell type. Nonetheless the specs are marvelous. Let us hope the device actually will be mass produced then released to the public, and not just be left on the drawing board.
I still am hoping that HTC will release a proper successor to the HTC Universal with a powerful processor in clamshell design.
Thanks for the info.
I am looking forward to a large screen WM HTC phone to replace my x7501. Leo or Thoth seem to fit the bill at the moment. I did not see any other large screen WM phones about, so HTC it is.
Anyone have a clue as to when either might hit the sales channel and/or if ATT will pick up the Leo as an offeing or not.
I did not find any info on ETA for either phone on the net.
Thanks people for your input n this.
BTW: Did you all hear about WM 6.5 including "TellMe" voice command software. Too cool.
Thanks,
Claude H.
Claude H.
Anyone have any more news or infor on the Thoth or Leo?
The HTC Leo doesn't appear to be a clamshell, and I doubt a keyboard, but September may reveal more info and whether there will be a Thoth.
I suspect that the Thoth if it does come out (and I hope it will), will be the same specification as the Leo, but of course the larger screen, but the larger battery is the greatest benefit.

Do you have any news?
I am waiting for the Thoth... I hope they will release it and I hope it will have normale audio in addition to stereo speakerphones... I have an Athena 7500 and when my bluetooth ends its battery I am always lost... the size of the Thoth will make it a killer app!!
It would be a smart move for HTC to reconsider development of the Thoth 100. They seem to have been ahead of their time in maxed-out, big-screened mobile os gadgets game, I.e. now we have the iPad, the maxed out iphone, the dell mini 5, the maxed out android, the samsung mondi, the maxed out winmo classic, all pretty much filling in the nitch that the Athena, the maxed-out winmo professional pioneered.
Now would definitely be a great time for them to remind us of this fact with the Thoth 100, marketted as the original mega-convergent device that's also, as was always, still a kindle killer.
C'mon htc!
Yeah, I am really dissappointed that we didn't see something at CES. Maybe the Euro mobile phone world congress? It is less than 2 weeks off...

I agree Omni could have been a Univeral replacement but it never made it...
Yeah, too bad
But now hope HTC will do something!
If not I am seriously thinking on move to Tsosh K02....
There is no real device to upgrade. I have tried three devices, XDA Flame - very good, but without keyboard, Touch HD - nice display, but no power (Qualcomm), hard to control (no buttons, no dpad), no qwerty, Xperia X1 - nice, but to small and no power (Qualcomm).
Touch Pro 2 has not jack 3.5, has not flashlight for camera, has not so big display as Uni and has not so big keyboard as Uni . And yes, there is gps.
I think HTC Leo with hw qwerty could be a solution .
Yeah, perhaps the touch pro 3 that is a line with keyboard can be a good succesor (if HTC launches...)
If not tosh k02 looks promising
Please vote!
a friendly bump!
It has to be the nokia N900 for me - I use my uni as a portable Linux box with UMTS/GPRS always on internet access and i've been waiting 4 years for a another phone with good linux support, display res >= 640x480, qwerty keyboard and 3G/HSPA that still fits in my pocket (so no netbooks)

not very good looking keyboard, but I wonder if this is only a prototype?

Ya i also thought but then will there be great rom cookers like we got here for HTC... probably not... so best option stick to HTC or lear how to cook yourself
and here is what could be another successor...
looks better than tosh KO2
Yes it looks much better, but what is it?
Brand?, mockup?
It´s not a question of learning to cook ROM´s, it´s the limitations of hardware on our beloved Uni´s
We have great Chefs here and I´m quite happy with their ROM´s

Well it's intel's first shot at the phone market ... finally intel comes into phone market... the specs hasn't been confirmed it says intel atom processor, sd slot along with 2 usb host. 47 buttoned keyboard, with tracker ball... well it's most likely be Rodhium 3 than uni-2...
18 cm * 5cm * 2 cm... mobile phone?
HTC HD2 !
Guys !
I am mesmerised by HTC HD2. I am finding it very difficult to resist. What is your advice ? How long should i wait before i get one ? Any changes expected in firmwares after 1rst release ?
Uni will continue to remain with me.
Leo is great but if no hardware keyboard is not an option for me
I would wait 6 months and sure HTC will launch Touch Pro 3!!
By now I can happily wait with a Touch Pro 2

I just put battery in side and connect to Internet.
Device is great, solid construction (I also have HTC Legend), it is fast, but without multitouch
Can you, please, confirm the presence of AWS (WDCMA-IV) 1700MHz band support?
BTW Android v1.5 was Cupcake, your X10 is running Donut.
PS: I don't give a flying f*ck about multitouch, it's a classic gimmick with no use for me - I prefer to be able use my phone with one hand instead of having to perform some two-handed gymnastics nonsensical gymnastics, only to gain nothing but lose safety when, say, I'm riding a train or driving a car or walking with my daughter holding her hand.
Tnx for correcting me, so where can I check AWS?
Well, I am playing with X10 for few hours, and I think that the main problem is 1.6 Android, in comparation with Legend (which I have) it is slightly slower. This can be seen in putting widgets.
What you see is the "Donut lag" - it is a common problem among Donut-based devices.
After someone releases a 2.x port it should be gone.
Well, we will sit and wait and I will continue to use my HTC Legend, hope to see upgrade rom from SE on 2.1
I know they will, it's only the question of when...
Retail version review from Stuff Mag:
anyway, they say that SE UI is pretty laggy...
Congratulations on your new device beetleman! Glad to see you went with an excellent choice. Hope you can include some more pictures soon.. Have you tried changing the background at all?
Thanks but I won this device and also HTC Legend, last week (what can I say, best week in my life- HTC Legend was in press conference, and SE Xperia x10 on SE event- I am ICT yournalist and editor in chief of Croatian e-zine about smartphones).
So I am very lucky, but as I said, it is good device, with big potential, so in comparation with Legend, Legend has smoother UI (HTC Sense) and implementation of services, but all thanks to 2.1 Eclair, so we wait update on X10.
Today I got him, so I will play with him a while, so we will se how it goes..
my main concern is TFT screen, because AMOLED screens are much better.
