In 2 or 3 weeks SE will realease a firmware update for 1.6 and it will fix some bugs of the phone, it will be much faster and the battery will not drain so fast....
Just wait and you will see...

Any link ?
The question is WHERE will they release it ? I live in Indonesia and here wasnt a single update yet :-( so maybe it's for Nordic Firmware only again.
I have a cousin who is working in SE and he said to me today that thing. That's why i know that...

yeah, i'm in the united states, will there be an update over here?
erm SE already said this 2-3 weeks ago lol, typical!!
They said this about 3 weeks ago:
"I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. "
Link
and now, 2 or 3 more weeks to go? huh
Same same... SE slow as hell - lots of talk, no action...
X10 will be my last SE phone, coz i hate this company so much. They don't even care about their customers.
It will be update for 1.6 not upgrade to 2.1 . . .

No they haven't, it said the next 'couple of weeks' from May 5th originally, however that would have placed the update last week. But reading it from today 'next couple of weeks' is nearer the truth.
lol, that is what they said 3 weeks ago, we will be lucky if we even get 2.1 this year.
New Firmware has heading to China

I can understand the dissapointment, i am to waiting for the uppgrade but still, SE is only doing what everyone else does. Like microsoft, blizzard etc, they just want to make sure everything is working 100% before release. If that meens breaking deadline then so be it.. i want a noticeable upgrade/update rather then some fast coffybreak job!

SE puts out a great phone that everyone knew had Android 1.6 on it, it then goes and says that it will update to Andorid 2.1 by the end of the year with the addition of HD video recording, and during the week that Froyo is released it states that it will update to later versions of Android after the 2.1 release. Yet people still decide to "hate" them and they claim to know that SE will never upgrade past 2.1 (despite SE's continued claims throughout the X10 development process that the phone will get updated during its useful life, and that this will be a break from the past). Despite all of this people "hate" them and will "never trust them again" etc. SE has not broken any promise to me regarding the X10 and all these prepubescent tantrums regarding Android 2.1 and 2.2 are just soooo annoying.

I agree with you. Back to HTC.
The only great thing about this phone is support from XDA developers.

If you squint to read the actual T-Mobile memo -- the first paragraph meant for internal consumption, not the quoted line to be given to customers -- it looks like the schedule for all end users to get the update may slip a bit past September (my emphasis):
The software update is expected to roll out beginning in September.

They say that because OTA updates are rolled out in stages. If they pushed a large update to everyone on their network, the network would bog. Also, this is to make sure the update is tested in "packets" of people, so if there is a problem with the update, only 1 percent of your user base will be affected.
OTAs usually take 2-3 weeks to roll out to everyone. So that is why they say "beginning"

I understand all that quite well. Just trying to get people's expectations grounded in reality. We should pay attention to what the memo actually says, not what we wish it says.
Many folks seem to be assuming they will get a "fix" in September for sure. What they can expect is sofware to "optimize GPS performance," whatever that means. And they might not get the update until sometime in October if the rollout begins at the end of September and takes several weeks. If it begins Sept. 1, it could be sooner.
When customers are dealing with 14-day return policies from T-Mobile, these distinctions are very important.

Well "optimizing" is what needs to happen. The GPS isn't broken, it just doesn't work very well. If it were broken, it wouldn't work at all. It does see your general location, however the performance of locating and tracking needs to be improved. Hence it needs "optimizing".
Actually in my case and a few others, the gps doesn't work at all. Never has a lock despite how many satellites are in view and how strong the signal is.

It's the last part of the definition that bothers me "functional as possible". If it's a hardware issue then they are probably going to try to make it as "functional as possible" on broken hardware and therefore is not really fixed. We will see....

Not OTA. Perhaps there will be a direct dl, but you'll have to wait for it.

The countries that have the I9000 have a different business model than the U.S. industry has evolved. The sales of phones and the sales of cellphone service in Europe are not so strongly linked. U.S. telecoms dominate the distribution of phones, and they provide updates to the firmware OTA. So U.S. Vibrant owners can expect to get an update that way.

so basically we dont need the KIES (?) for vibrant?
Stupid questions about this issue?
OK, I understand that things move slow in the corporate world, but someone please explain? I can understand there may be strategic reasons for releasing FroYo in dribs & drabs, but that will be to make something decent, better. But, does anyone have an opinion about the alleged GPS optimization, from the standpoint of it being ready or not? What I mean is: there's a lot of upset folks NOW because of the problem. "If" the "fix" is ready, why not release it now-ish? Does the target date mean that they're hoping against hope that someone in-house will figure it out by then? I'm sure a developer who knows inner workings of development teams can explain why? I guess the disconnect is: if the fix is ready, and they know approximately when it will be released, are they just doing testing between now and then? How many people times how many times a day times how many days or months does it take to "test" it prior to release? Just asking...

Now-ish is a month. The bug fixes that will be rolled into the update are done and the final update packages are being compiled and tested (dont want OTA Bricks now do we?) and being sent to the carrier, this will probably take a week or two, and then the carrier will take the update, come up with a plan and implement the plan to distribute it OTA to users. This will also take at least a week to setup, then about 2 weeks to complete (OTA push).
As you said things take time in the corporate world. If the carrier is getting definite news of the update (evidence by the internal memo) they've probably received news of the update and its delivery date to them now. So a week or so till they actually receive it. With this guess, I'd say we're still 2-3 weeks at a minimum out till the update is 'out', which is beginning/mid Sept, and that is if there are no snags.

To add on to this, it is easier to add the "optimization" to the already planned update then to release two separate updates. You reduce the load on the network, reduce the chances of OTA bricks, reduced complaints of multiple updates (most users don't like to spend time worrying about that), less overhead of testing and planning each update. It's a lot different than the modding community where we can just say "I'm not responsible for what happens. At your own risk...blah blah blah."

Someone here on the forum claimed that he has some internal information from Sony saying that the updated will pushed back to Q4 due to performance issues, and this new announcement reassures that the update will be released on Q3 as promised before.

I didn't mean old as in the passage of time but rather old as in that specific tweet had been discussed to death already. Was just trying to inject a quick quip before the hordes descended on the thread and flamed it into oblivion.
the announcement is very important. There has been a lot of rumors flying around the market. In this particular time, the consumers do need the official clarification instead of just guessing themselves. Thanks to SE UK for making the announcement again, which should have been done on the SE product launch blog.

Heh, airplanes take years to design, test and build. The 747 for example started development in 1965 before entering service in 1970.

More like taking the blueprints for a 747, building a new body but keeping the infrastructure underneath while adding a fourth floor. It's not as big of a task as building it from scratch but it while take considerable time to develop, test and then finally build it. Might not take five years, but getting it done it under two would be a massive accomplishment.
Just wondering if anyone has got the update yet? I checked mine this morning and it said up to date.

The 3.1 update for the Motorola XOOM™ outside the U.S. has started. Owners in Japan started receiving the update today (June 21). Owners in other regions can expect updates to start over the next several weeks until the roll out is complete.
Motorola has responded to the widely-expressed desire to have the SD card activated on Motorola XOOM. The 3.1 update for non-U.S. devices, in addition to many other improvements, also includes an SD card activation solution. Release notes for this update will be made available in each region. It could end up being that (few months)...proper English would indicate that several or a few weeks would be more than two weeks but less than 5 weeks. Two weeks would be a "couple of weeks" and "three to four would be several or a few" more than 5weeks would be more than a month (if more than 4 weeks were planned then they should use months or an actual number of weeks as a qualifier).
P.S. this was written with humor (writing work scopes today) in mind. We all know that they have a hard number in mind and a date to start roll out, but are being cagey for business reasons.
The information is somewhat misleading, I saw they were rolling out but not that it was only in Japan so far until later. Not sure why they bothered posting on the Moto Europe FB account when in fact the EU rollout hasn't started. It's pretty crap that none of these companies deploying Android updates can manage to do it at a faster pace!
I am quite sure that the rollout has not started yet and that Motorola is just trying to calm down their customers.
Why do i believe that?
I was among the first to buy the german version of the Motorola Xoom (offered by T-Mobile) and i am checking for updates on a daily basis.
Up to now the message is always the same: Your system is up to date (should be better named: There is no update for you, as the system is definitely not up to date).
Besides that there is no updated image that can be downloaded offline and applied to the device via adb.
When the Motorola Milestone received its update, at the same time the announcement has been made, the offline image update was available for download.
So go and figure yourself .....
Kind regards,

With all the devices Samsung's listed that qualify for 4.4 multiplied by the different radios (Wi-Fi, 3G, LTE) extrapolated over the dozens of different regions (CSCs) there are probably thousands of different ROM versions that need to be pushed. Samsung was feverishly pushing 4.3 out to the SGS4, SGS3, and N2 to have it deployed before the holiday selling season in order to sell more Gear's. It took months and the benefit was Samsung's more than their customer's. In all my time on XDA I've never seen a Samsung update pushed before there was a leak posted either on XDA or SamFirmware. In other words, it may be a while before your specific type of N10.1-14 receives its update for your specific region. But keep trying, someone's got to be first.
