Am I the only one checking for updates every hour? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

For some reason I find Myself more excited about this update than any other in recent memory,

With all the devices Samsung's listed that qualify for 4.4 multiplied by the different radios (Wi-Fi, 3G, LTE) extrapolated over the dozens of different regions (CSCs) there are probably thousands of different ROM versions that need to be pushed. Samsung was feverishly pushing 4.3 out to the SGS4, SGS3, and N2 to have it deployed before the holiday selling season in order to sell more Gear's. It took months and the benefit was Samsung's more than their customer's. In all my time on XDA I've never seen a Samsung update pushed before there was a leak posted either on XDA or SamFirmware. In other words, it may be a while before your specific type of N10.1-14 receives its update for your specific region. But keep trying, someone's got to be first.

Yea, I'm excited, but not that excited. Once someone here says they have gotten it then l will get excited and Check every 5 min. Until then, its business as usual.

I'm hoping this will come sooner as the carriers are not involved in the rollout. I really like my note but do find it to be a bit laggy and would like to have a more fluid experience.

Well, you shouldn't check every hour. I've been waiting for MK1 OTA since early November ...

I'm on frequent mind numbing multi-hour conference calls and this is my alternative to PC games. I also travel internationally a lot and when I do I'm off the board for weeks. I'll leave it up to you as to whether the latter's a good thing.

Samsung has to say that there will be an update, otherwise no one will buy it. Thankfully we have devs who actually care about making the most out of the product. I'm not hating on Samsung. Every OEM does it.

Manufacturers usually don't announce something and take it away. If they don't want to offer something or aren't sure they just say it's "under consideration." For months sometimes. In addition the U.S. carriers have all published a list of Samsung devices to be updated and all the G-Tabs other than the original 7" are on it. If Samsung was just kidding I'd doubt they'd take the U.S. carriers down with them.

So true. I've had the same experience with different manufacturers, and they are pretty much the same, depending on which device you choose. As soon as they have new products on the market, they tend to put other products on the backburner. Sad but true. Only thing you can do to create a difference, is complaining to the manufacturers again and again, and not on forums.. that want do nothing for nobody..
Still put my two cents in Samsung.. so we can get a working camera

Dont forget you will have to UNROOT to get the OTA when it is released

If only it would please them to stop competing with LG for the Delayed Update Award, we'd be in business.
What freaks me out is we still havent seen a single leak.. while its by far the most popular 1st gen Android tablet.
The only reason I see for this is "a" build exists, it isnt being tested anywhere but in Samsung very own labs;
Not a single carrier or anything close to it has yet got to test it on its network. =(
I dont see it poping up on my tab overnight even if Bell says I should be hopefull. This is going to be a long summer.
Guys, you'll get your update, the TAB 10.1 is a popular device and all the 2011 line got the update or is getting it...
See my situation :
- My Tab 10.1v wil NEVER get updated.
- My EU Atrix will probably NEVER get updated while the US will get the update...late 2012.
- My wife's Ray got the update : it's filled with bugs, features that are not activated (auto light, auto flash) and it's super slow although the device is barely less powerful than the Nexus S.
So shut up, spoiled kids...
I hope Samsung will not act like Motorola.

That would put them well over 2 months late. When they first announced it they said 1Q which would of been March. Now I feel they are sitting on the update until the tab 10.1 v 2 has had some time to sell. They are basically the exact same hardware.

Well IOS has hardly changed from the flat basic OS it was 5 years ago so updates are easy, but at least Android keeps giving something new even though Samsung constantly mislead everyone.
I bet they based this on the highly unreliable story on cnet

It's not like anyone should be surprised. Pure Google phones aside the Android OS updates system is absolutley ridiculous. It always has been and there is zero signs of that changing.
When you buy an Android phone you should really be buying on the assumption that it is not going to get the next version of Google's OS. You may get a few minor updates from the manufacturer but not the next version upgrade of Android. You should plan to be hapy with the OS it ships with for the 1 or 2 year life of the phone. If by some miracle it does get upgraded to the next Android version it's nothing more than a bonus.
Think like that and there will never be any dissappointment. If the latest and greatest OS beamed to you on or around day of release is high on your priority list you're on the wrong platform.
The latest leak is pretty solid. Sounds like BS me. Because I know everything you can rest assured it will be officially released before October.

If they delay it for a month to really work on it to iron out the bugs, you're still not satisfied because it's delayed. Oh my God, it's delayed, the world must come to an end now!

After trying to get a straight answer out of anyone at Samsung USA I am not betting anytime soon. If it happens by the end of this year I will honestly be shocked.
After going through the new christmas advertisement, i have a feeling that the update will definately come on or before 25th dec.
I think samsung wants to cash on shopping time, and put in a new advertisement in front of ppl to get that feel good factor for this tablet.
I really don't think they have any other reason to hold this update back from 8013 users otherwise.

That advertisement is posted on the Samsung mobile facebook page. The one they use for international users. If you look at the Samsung Mobile USA facebook page they do not even mention the note 10.1 AT ALL. It is all S3 Note 2 and the tab 2 10.1 It is like the note 10.1 does not even exist.
You would think with all the tech sites that someone could get answer about the 8013 but nothing to be found.

good point. The 8013 and 8010 are basically identical hardware wise, but it seems the 8013 has so many issues, including slow updates and problems with getting palm rejection on ezpdf reader. Had i know all this, I would have definitely gotten the 8010.

So the question remains
So.... With all that has been said the question still remains. Where and when is the update? There was a time, just recently, that you could not turn on the tv without seeing a Note 10.1 ad a thousand times. Now it is only occasional. They have moved on to the note 2.
You would think that with all of the tech sites and tech people that someone would know somebody at Samsung that would have an answer.
Why so silent about the 8013?
Is it an issue with the apple suit?
Are we just spoiled and impatient because we were not first?
You would think someone could figure this out.
It's a great question. You would think that with the 4th iPad, TF 700 as closest competition in the US they would get it out asap. They've pushed their GS3 with JB on almost all carriers in US (correct me if i'm wrong), their Note 2 had JB when released and almost all got the new update with more multitasking, all that's left of their top 3 would be the GN 10.1.
As an earlier posted stated some misgivings about the 8010 and 8013, i thought they were identical in hardware. The only difference methought, was some of the applications that were on the Note 10.1. Part of the reason other countries got the JB update I thought was 1.) They had GN 10.1 released to them before the US, 2.) Had cellular support 3.) Beta test for any hiccups. I've never known Samsung to have huge issues with their updates (except on cellular which is more carrier related and the 1 incident that could essentially wipe your phone with a html link) but i thought maybe some of these carriers made a big stink BEFORE their contract with Samsung saying they wanted JB by [certain date]. I know if Samsung doesn't get it out by that date they get fined or charged per day - but this is all a guess on my part. I can see the new 8020 getting JB before it gets released, because it's newer and has LTE. All i can think is that sadly this time around their wifi didn't get the update 1st.
If there was someway i didn't have to change my csc and essentially do a complete wipe on my 8013, i would upgrade to another version of the JB. If all i have to do is Odin the pda file of the UK version then i'll do it - i am getting anxious as all of us, but i refuse to lose my data this time around (yes i know about TI, i just prefer not to have to do it).
Perhaps we should write to the leaders of XDA and see if THEY can get a response out of samsung and post it on their main page. That or androidcentral. Android central posted when germany was getting the "premium suite" upgrade that it was a slow roll out - which made it seem like it was hitting all the different countries/regions separately and over time. Technically i guess this is correct, but i'm wondering if they just repeated what was written elsewhere or from the PR which didn't explicitly say whether it was just for germany, etc. (Although then the UK received it, etc.)
What us Wifi users are waiting on is when the 8010/8013 suite will be released from us, and so far, thanks to the success of the GN2 and GS3, we are what seems to be one of he last of priorities.

It almost has to be a legal issue with Apple at this point. Portions of the trial are still ongoing so Its quite possible the Samsung lawyers are blocking anything that could fuel the fire, especially since Apple specifically moved to add the Note 10.1 and Android 4.1 to the lawsuit.
Sad that Verizon was faster on the s3 than Samsung was on their so called "flagship" product. Never thought that would happen either. At least I now have JB on something
Then why would Samsung continue to release updates to their US carrier partners such as Verizon with the gs3? The premium suite is essentially the same across the board with except of UI and how its implemented.

Although this news is leaked from the company's insider, it may be true. This news may be highly disappointing to many. Here's the link. Go ahead check it out.

jelly bean 4.2.2 is definitely the latest that i expected.
the s2 is too old but still good.
morover the most of us will get a new phone very soon because of the contracts.
and this phone will get android 5 or higher in the future.
Gonna upgrade to another manufacturer i think...since the uk galaxy s4 will be a snapdragon based model and not the octocore we were hoping for...key lime pie will be nice.

Or at least let the community do their job...
I totally agree, and don't understand the attitude of some people here... I didn't buy the phone just to replace it at the end of contract. It's still working perfect and I don't see the need for a replacement. Samsung should just let the community handle the updates if they are to lazy to do it themselves.
S2 till it dies, and when it does, another s2.
Fu*k it, I'll buy a couple s2 when they get 300 bucks cheap here (It's still at 600 bucks unbranded, 400 branded, crazy).

Dude they updated it from 2.3.6 up to 4.1.2 and they will update it to 4.2.2. Some Galaxy devices havent got any update. Just some bugfixes.
I hate samsung for that, but i love touchwiz and their hardware

Ok, chill out now, no need to get sentimental.
I really wanna see 5.0 and what it's all about, I'm somewhat skeptical on the gigant upgrade that would represent against JB.
If a couple of devs make it work with no issues on their ROMs I don't see why we can't lobby up and ask for that update.
I mean, samsung devs vs xda devs...I'm sticking with our troops.
One thing's for sure, if the galaxy nexus gets it, I'll burn tires right in front of Samsung.

As stated by GSMArena website there will be no Android 5.0 update for Galaxy S2 and obviously should apply to the variants too.
Although this news is leaked from the company's insider, it may be true. This news may be highly disappointing to many. Here's the link. Go ahead check it out.

that's too bad..
Yes, if Samsung would now release all the sources (required by the license) we could keep upgrading our devices on our own. The S2 community has done a fabulous job, and we would get some disaffected devs back if we had all the sources. This is still a great phone. I'd hazard to say that there aren't many (any?) other 2 year old phones that still run this well on the "latest" software. I agree it might be still going strong in 4 years. Due to Samsung's intransigence however I think my next has to be Nexus. But it's hard to justify giving this up. Despite a faded screen, and reduced capacity of the battery, it still screams smoothly!

Lollipop coming to NA Galaxy devices NOW

Hey Guy,
I have a friend that works for the mobile division of BestBuy and he saw an email that Samsung sent them that says Lollipop should be released within a few days. The email doesn't specifically give that information but he says it shows instructions on how to update the demo devices to Lollipop and how to reinstall the retail demo software after the update. He said usually those kind of emails are sent within days of the actual updates which would mean that most of the units on demo (Note 4, S5, Alpha and possibly Note 3) should be getting 5.0 within a few days. This update affects DEMO units which are not carrier branded which could mean, as usual, some carriers might keep that update for testing until they are comfortable it is fully compatible with their network.
This is good news for us, as Samsung has already started pushing Lollipop to some European countries.
I say mid February
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Possible, depending on the carrier. I think T-mo pushes the updates quite quickly
The T-Mobile Note 2 I had earlier was still on Jelly Bean. Is Lollipop coming to T-Mobile Note Devices anytime soon?
Find this with a quick Google search.

It's verified that it's coming in Jan. It was verified to a mod, so it's pretty safe to rely on the information.

Lol I read it and when he edit he stated that it is not verified by Samsung lol. Even if Samsung releases it in jan Tmobile still has to bloat it up. So I say may now. Or may e the note 5 will be out first. Lol

I'll be crossing my fingers that a miracle happens and things do indeed roll out in January, lol
What's the purpose of waiting for an OTA? I get too excited to update if there is no reason to update and I have a stable ROM (Unless the ROM I use updates).

I dont think its about waiting for OTA, i think its about knowing more or less when our fav rom will make the jump to 5.0
I read the galaxy s5 will get lollipop first early January, note 4 "soon after".
It's real, but I don't think the note 4 will be the first to get it, and honestly as rude as this sounds, I don't care when other Samsung devices get it, I want it on my note 4! Official with everything working. Hopefully January

The S5 rollout started end of november. Note 4 should follow shortly as more and more leaks videos come out
I actually work at Best Buy. I'll see what I can dig up when I go to work tomorrow.
got to be earlier than march I mean by then we should be expecting another upgrade.... lol
I think by the mid or end of this month./
Like stated above...I could care less when the official update is released. I just want to know my roms will be updated.

It's funny how several people can read the same articles and interpret it VERY differently. Samsung has announced THEY will be rolling out Lollipop...this means unbranded devices. Then one of the articles uses words regarding US carriers as "could" and "as early as January" adding the disclaimer that the carriers will do whatever they want regarding testing and timelines. So before you all continue fighting over vaporware, research all the articles on KitKat and Jellybean that all had the same wording, people still posting "We will haz JB tomorrow" and then the US carriers releasing an OTA 2 months later. Granted Sprint and T-Mobile are usually the firsts in the US carrier line because they do not have to worry about unlocking and relocking a bootloader without bricking devices on an OTA....so rather than fight...just wait...be patient for that new Knox loaded Lollipop update.
I will be cleaning the disrespectful posts from this thread and expect those who posted in such a manner to accept this as an official warning...do not do so again!
