I wish you luck they said my phone must be faulty - it isn't - then suggested a firmware update........................................

I don't see the Desire in that list, whereas X10i has received two firmware updates already

What firmware updates.??

Sent from my X10i

Yeah, I've gotten firmware updates pushed OTA from Docomo.
Also, here's SE's Japanese support page: http://qa.sonyericsson.co.jp/index.asp?DispNodeID=86
Hundreds of issues/questions taken care of. Odd how it's much better than any of the English language SE sites.

I'm not getting this .is it Japan people spent money for their x10 while we all user worldwide stolen our x10 from SE?
Why they having whatever firmware update and we didn't?

reply from SE regards "Froyo update on Xperia X10"

I posted the petition link on the Sony Ericsson UK and global Facebook sites and got the following reply from SE:
“Hi Mark, Thank you for your feedback regarding the Sony Ericsson X10’s Android upgrade.
We appreciate your feedback regarding this and have passed this on to the relevant department. We can confirm that this is something our developers are currently looking into and will provide further information once this is available.

That does sound promising. To be fair, they couldn't have missed the huge reaction from their customers. Well over2000 responses to the petition already and it's only been a couple of days. Looking brighter?

Hopefully that is the reason that the incremental upgrade which was due "a couple of weeks" from May 5th has not materialised. Hopefully their best bods are focussing on seeing if 2.2 is a possibility....
No doubt their developers have X10 phones andthemselves would like their phones to be running 2.2...

... dont worry about that, this update was part of development for X10mini (pro), so we should see it in the next weeks.
and yes, 2.1 and NO 2.2 (froyo) brings only bad vibes for SE (and their future)
Something tells me that although the response sounds promising SE won’t change from their original plan. The 2000+ votes (As good as this is) only accounts for a fraction of the x10 owners out there.
Leaving out Froyo until a completely new line of phones can be used as a sell tool and a reason to adopt any new android phones they release where as if the x10 get the 2.2 now the new line would have to have more hardware advances to prove their worth increasing cost. Judging the hardware cut backs SE made with its flagship device most people can predict or assume the next wave of SE android phones will follow suit.
The petition needs to reach beyond the blogs to really make a difference, If the Japanese got wind of the petition and signed up that would really open SE eyes and i'm sure the speed increase of 2.2 would be enough to get them on board. Any ideas how?

At the moment the link is also twittered strongly think that makes the difference.

No hope.
Just a standard message ...
Where did you see hope there?
Well, it is something that should have been done. Since this is the best SE phone in a long time, with a potential to get better.
So if they are choosing to apply this update... Then I would assume that I would be even more satisfied with my phone. But right now, is the thing that annoys me the most.. That I can't buy applications here in Norway yet.
And I can do it in Morocco, and that country isn't on the list either.
All I can say that 2.2 finally provides bluetooth functionality for voice dial.
In places where it is illegal to hold a cellphone while driving, voice dialing using bluetooth is an extremely useful function. Android devices have been lacking this since 1.5 cupcake. Google finally added full bluetooth functionality on 2.2. I hope SE does the right thing and updates the X10 to reflect this.
It is very annoying when Apple updates the Iphone constantly and Android phones are stuck on whichever hardware manufacturer schedule to make its phone unique (e.g. sense, timescape, touchflow).
I think Google has the correct idea of separating future updates from the unique modifications that the manufacturers want. But for that to happen, all phones have to reach 2.2. first.
i work in a bar in malmö, sweden which the nearest city to where se have a rather huge campus there, anyway, i got a saw a japenese guy with an x10 and told him that we have the same phones, i told him that the x10 really needs froyo to be updated onto it and he told me that it will prob be on it sooner than you think.
he explained to me that they knew about people crying out for 2.1 and well get it sooner aswell!!
is there light at the end of the tunnel??

They are still lacking the AVRCP profile update. It is still stuck on v1.0.. when the latest version is v1.4
Yep. I bought an MW600 as it was advertised that it's fully compatible with X10, but after three months of emails flying around, SE concluded that it's not fully compatible due to Android's limitation on AVRCP profile.
For MW600 to work fully with X10, we need AVRCP 1.3 or above!!
Maybe we can stress SE to roll out an update for security reason? These few days, Malware, backdoors and trojans in official market place became hot topic.
And quote from CNET :
At least 50,000 people had downloaded the apps in question, according to enthusiast site AndroidCentral. However, many of those potentially infected may have been protected by staying current with the latest Android updates. AndroidCentral notes that Google actually patched its source code to prevent this type of exploit for users running Android 2.2.2 or higher and that the vulnerability doesn't exist at all in Gingerbread, aka Android 2.3.

The attack is an exploit, they have to patch it.
You need to do a full system wipe and reset your phone completely, the data wipe and reset from settings may not be enough. This means ODIN, RUU's, .sbf files or a trip to your carrier store if this is beyond your capabilities.

No one can, it's just the latest update instructions. It even mentions as a new feature what we got with one of the recent updates: integrated backup.
Most likely, it's 2.1 updrade. It's rediculous to announce 2.2 update before 2.1 is released.
Froyo was never mentioned anywhere in that post on the SE product blog. Also, that was posted sometime in June 2010.

Samsung Mobile UK Froyo end of November

Hi everyone, sorry for not getting this to you sooner. The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November. Let us know if you have any questions. Many thanks, Samsung.

Hit Twitter about 10 minutes ago too. Pity that so many misunderstood the below statement to mean that we'd have Froyo this week...
In the UK market, we are currently in final stages with our testing to ensure the upgrade is as smooth an experience as possible. Further information in relation to roll-out will be available early next week.

just out of curiocity, what vendor is good with firmware upgrades?
i have been through pretty much every major mobile phone manufacturer (except apple), and samsung seems to be the best (re unofficial support, leaked releases etc) when it comes to firmware upgrades
is apple so much better?
what is your experience with other vendors?

The "problem" with Android is that development is pretty much out in the open and there are multiple phone manufacturers using the OS. So people know exactly what they are waiting for and if one manufacturer releases their update earlier, the other phone owners get all jumpy
This is not an issue with Apple because no-one really waits for any updates... heh.
PS: Well, the iOS 4.0 'multi-tasking' (ahem) was kind of being eagerly awaited. Still waiting for my iPad update though.

I gave up on HTC some time ago... HTC was A LOT worse. The final "drop" was when they refused to release the 3D drivers and this community ended fixing it for them. I'll never never go back to HTC. The worst support I've ever seen...
Disclaimer: This is based on my experience and a couple of friends which also have the same opinion.
IMO, HTC decline started when they switched to Qualcomm (since htc tytn ii). And yes, HTC support is bad. No more HTC.. and maybe no more Samsung if they will not fix the annoying lags in decent time.
Screw letting operators "tweak" froyo. Orange uk filled the internal memory of the galaxy s with so much undeleatable crap you have no option but to root. Please people just do a registary hack and get normal samsung froyo. I'm in the uk and had a branded orange phone but no more

New Android 2.2 Upgrade Announced for Samsung Galaxy S
Latest Platform upgrade provides enhanced experience on the go
LONDON , UK – October 21, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announces the Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S, giving users access to new features, enhanced navigation applications and improved, faster performance.
The super-slim Galaxy S is an award winning ultra-lightweight large screen Android smartphone. The Galaxy S features an incredible 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a super-fast 1 GHz application processor, for an intelligent, immersive and integrated mobile experience. The Samsung Galaxy S has led the Android smartphone market since its UK launch this summer.
The Android 2.2 upgrade enhances the great experience of the Galaxy S, making even more of the processor speed, and the exclusive Super AMOLED screen.
The key benefits include:
Improved browser performance: enhances browsing, navigation and the 'pinch and zoom' feature
Enhanced user interface adding vivid colours and features to the android menu structure
Google Maps with Navigation: A GPS navigation system with voice guidance for a turn-by-turn navigation
Adobe Flash Player 10.1: the latest Flash Player for viewing video content
Enhanced user experience including message editing and the ability to save applications to memory card
Search in-browser: Google™, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary
Getting the upgrade
The Android 2.2 upgrade, will be available via Kies, Samsung's in-house software upgrade programme. Samsung has developed a brand new version of Kies which will be issued to make the upgrade experience as smooth as possible. The new version of Kies will be downloadable from www.samsungmobile.co.uk
Samsung will also be publishing video tutorials on how to upgrade, providing a step-by-step guide to the simple download process.
The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland, comments; 'Samsung are committed to providing our customers with the best possible mobile experience, and this upgrade enhances the incredible features of the Galaxy S handset. We also want the upgrade process to be simple and hassle-free for customers, hence the new version of our Kies software and the step-by-step video guides.'
I haven't updated, I thoghut we only had to wait a few more days :/ but using my friends phone found one reason there might be more delays.
You cannot put a UK address into the current official rom (kies hack for nordic release) it only offers a state and zip code field.
and the zip code ONLY accepts numbers only (std zip code format) but in the UK we have post codes instead, using a-z,0-9. So UK users can't actually store any full address in contacts atm.
He never stores addresses so he hadn't noticed this.
well one more week and we shall see, im more than happy to have hands on the UK unbranded froyo edition lol
Jumping reg hacked froyo soon...
From having travelled south korea for a month recently I can tell you the advertising for the galaxy s is HUGE there. Samsung basically owns the country, almost all tv's washing machines and so forth are samsung.
But...There is very little market presence from htc or apple, maybe they dont realise what the western market expects from their phones nowadays?
Then again they are an absolutely massive company...how can they not have solved this by now

From Engadget: Samsung comes clean with Galaxy S Froyo upgrade dates, in November

I see there's a lot of froyo update thread here, but this article is pretty new, so I guess I'd share it with you guys. (If the moderators deem this thread unnecessary, please , by all means, delete it). Anyways, here's the news:
The Android 2.2 upgrade situation on the Galaxy S has been a veritable rollercoaster of emotions for owners recently, owing in no small part to the seemingly final firmwares that have been briefly posted and pulled from the company's servers in parts of the world over the past couple weeks. Nordic countries have already sample the goods, but Sammy says that a "new" firmware update will be available in early November in the UK and should hit "all operator versions" of the phone (presumably including the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, and Fascinate) by the end of November. YouMobile is reporting that existing regional updates have been pulled due to general not-awesomeness, so hopefully they'll have a chance to get it right over the next couple weeks before it starts hitting again. Follow the break for Samsung's press release. (open the page to see Samsung's press release, click the link below) I'll just go ahead and paste the Press Release here:

The nordic firmware is really crappy so yes you can call it a beta version. It is not very good. But when the real thing is rolling out. How will i be able to get it? Reg hack?

You'd better be able to store a post code (a-z,0-9) OR zip code in contacts, not just zip codes (0-9) by then.

Because the other firmwares have not been of beta standard? Just have a look at the 2.2 release status without reg. hack thread where you see all the latest releases on each country. Some are stuck in early 2.1 firmware. I rather have a beta 2.2 with all the goodies than a beta 2.1.
For the rest I agree to a degree. I doubt the november firmwares will be that good. I mean that's what people say all the time, "it's worth the wait". No it's not since we currently are on beta software with 2.1 and the wait will only bring a slightly less bad beta-level firmware.

Hi, can someone tell me what was wrong with the Nordic froyo firmware?
I did the registry hack and was able to get it through Kies. I am not noticing any bugs other than the weak GPS (Which I always had no matter what firmware I was running.)
Other than the GPS which is normally defective are there specific bugs with the Nordic version?
Nordic froyo version runs great for me, super fast!
thanks

This is like the 3rd delay from official sources? I'm getting frustrated about it.
It's like you are waiting for a friend who told you he'll be there in 10min and he arrives 1 hour later. Again. And again.
Now, I don't mind to wait longer for a polished and bug free firmware, but I do mind this postponing thing.

Ive come to expect nothing but this from Samsung.
(My first and last Samsung phone, for many other reasons)
I've already installed the beta nordic froyo 2.2. Does this mean i have to flash and erase all my data if i want to go to "official" froyo 2.2 ?
I'm using the Nordic JP6 firmware installed through Kies and the only real issue I have is with performance. Even with the Voodoo fix there is still noticeable lag in many applications (mainly built in Samsung ones) and the Browser is appalling performance wise, sometimes it lags for several seconds before scrolling.

Hi Guys ..
First of All Thank U to Everyone for your support to this Forum.
Its the Best on the Net.
Today i had gone to purchase the Xperia ARC at Sony's Authorized dealer here
in Gujarat, India.
To my utter surprise and astonishment the Dealer told me that Xperia ARC was unavailable for Sale as the Company is doing some Software
Upgrade(Tinkering) ???
As far as this Reliable Forum goes ... And upon my Extensive Googling ...
I couldn't find an answer for this type of Shortage Issue !
As far as my knowledge goes there is No such thing but....
Is it True .. that there is some OS tinkering is going on ?
Or that there actually is a Shortage of Hardware Units somewhere ?
Anyways ... he is to call me in the Next 3 days.

Could be correct, I've read an article about Blackberry having the same problem in India (and some other countries).
However, there is definitively hardware unit shortage as well. (Probably due to the earthquake in Japan, at least that's the official reason they delayed Xperia Neo.) Here in Germany, e.g., you can only buy one colour and it's sold out in many shops. Unfortunately, this also keeps the prices high.
Hmm ... I think its the Hardware Supply Issues based on the Report from Germany.. although in India color is not the issue.
Also Blackberry problem is totally different from ARC
Hope I get it ASAP. Can't wait No more.
when I went to get the Arc none of the stores in Coventry (UK) had it....carphonwarehouse told me it wud come by mid-may...o2 actually said that there was some software issues with the Arc and then later they said tht it was for the Play...finally I got it online..

Happy i got it as soon as i did, cause sounds like its almost impossible to get now!
SE have confirmed that there is a hardware shortage due to the problems in japan.. however they have also said that there will be a firmware you're shortly after release, which I believe there will be more information released about tomorrow.

100% True. This is specially we are running v2.3.2 and v2.3.4 is available for N1. I believe Google also going to announce v2.4 shortly and we don't want another delay of the OS.
Hope SE learn from the X10's mistakes.
Facebook integration, of all things... wish they would fix some bugs instead. ^^
I don't really like the new upgrade tho, sine I barely use facebook....

They won't.. the FB integration will be built into the launcher.. not the OS.

Launcher? Are you sure? I don't use that stock launcher anyway
@cokey77, cant help about your credit rating, but the jumping from 3g to edge was probably due to poor coverage from being inside your house. There was probably nothing wrong at all with the phone you had.
Connection speeds:
4G > 3.75G HSUPA > HSDPA > 3G > Edge > GPRS
