Hey, im a newbie. I just got my HTC HD2 (T-Mobile) USA
Can you tell me whats the difference between Leo and the USA HD2's ? I see there is way more mods/skins/apps for Leo HD2, so any way i can switch the software?
And what are ROM's ? See there threads about roms, flashing and stuff, what does that do?
Thanks.

Welcome newbie,
Lot's of info here, so here are some basics; read the threads and go down a few pages there you will find all your answers.
LEO=HD2
USA HD2= 1024 Memory
EU HD2= 512 Memory
these are sometimes called 1024LEO & 512LEO can you see where the names are coming together?
ROM= the software that is loaded when you turn your phone on, no ROM no phone.... Make sense?
Flashing= Removing old ROM installing new ROM
Please start here:

Thanks you have a nice day!
all the themesand apps and such work on both the regular hd2 and the tmous hd2. only when it comes to rom version and ESPECIALLY radio is there a difference.
feel free to try stuff in the regular hd2 themes and apps section, but only get your roms from the tmous section.
(tmous = t mobile us, with 1gb rom and coloured start and end keys)
oh and spend the next few days reading, don't dive straight in like half the pillocks arriving here every few hours, understand what you are doing and you'll see how simple it all is.

Had tried to search differences & compatibilities between the LEO & TMOUS, but not much luck on answers. I've noticed there's a LEO subthread and a T-Mobile US thread. I'm in the US and my HD2 is branded with T-Mobile logo on it. But when i sync my PC to my HD2, i get a sync folder on my PC with the "T-Mobile LEO" folder on my desktop.
So do i have a LEO or a TMOUS model? Reason i ask is so i can go to the right subthread to read what members posted to prevent any bricking or error while trying to run a cab or flash.
I have the following info from my HD2:
flash size...... 1024MB
data bus...... 32 bits
OS ver........ 5.2.21889
Manila......... 2.5.20121412.1
ROM ver...... 2.10.531.1 WWE
radio.......... 2.05.50.08_2
I used to have a HTC Tilt that i've flashed with HyperDragonIII rom. I'm kinda rusty and still a noob at this. So i'm trying to remember how to flash a rom for starter. Any advice or post would be GREATLY appreciated.
LEO is the codename of the HD2
TMOUS is the carrier

One forum is for the europe/asia/australia model...the one you're posting right now (512mb ROM)
The other is specifically tailored for TMOUS (1024mb ROM)

I find better info in this one though, and I have a tmous model. You'll want to check them both... they are basicly the same, except the T-Mous has more ROM. You just have to be careful about what radio or roms you flash. Other than that, all the same apps work the same.
oh yeah, DEFINITELY will be checking here as well....... always good to have everything of both world
you have a leo branded under t mobile usa nerworks
Your is TMOUS
HD2 (Leo) with T-mobile Branding in US has 1024MB ROM
Look for the T-mobile word below your ear piece and the five button below the screen will be colored (One will be RED to disconnect the call and GREEN to pick up the call)

Hello everyone, this is my fist post here on XDA. I just purchased a HD2 T-Mobile US 1024 version. Main reason I got it is because I have been lurking here in the XDA forums, and thought that these custom Roms, might very well make my HD2 a usable phone, because as it stands right now, with HTC Sense 2.5 UI its completely unbearable.
I am completely lost when navigating these forums though, I would really love some help.
I have been reading about some good things here, like Coreplayer and MaxSense, but I really have no idea how to get started.
I read some of the sticky threads, but all i can gather is that before getting started i head to install something called HardSPL, but after that I am at a loss.
some of my system info is
OS Version
5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manilla Version
2.5.20121412.1
ROM version
2.10.531.1
Radio Version
2.08.50.08_2
some one please help a noob out.
I just went into my Bootloader, and my SPL version is 2.0.08 I believe.
Here is where you can get HSPL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
and here is a tutorial on flashing a rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
you said you were interested in maxsense? look in the roms section for roms containing maxsense, here's one, i haven't tried it yet so you may want to read up on it and decide if it's right for you.

Perfect info for a noob like me thanks
Since it is a T-Mobile USA model (1024) please take extra care as a wrong ROM or Radio ROM can brick your phone. The chefs do state if their ROM (and any specific Radio ROM they suggest) is suitable for the TMOUS version of the HD2.
I've tried everything and I still keep ending up in the MAGLDR black screen with the title at the top, but the menu won't appear at all, just stays there with the title. I've read and read everywhere. I'm using HD2 1024 with the latest Radio ROM

You should go to the magldr thread for help with magldr. This thread has nothing to do with magldr. The op of this thread is asking about winmo roms.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Hello. I know I should have looked around more but I did and I am still confused.
I have got a HTC HD2 today from USA(the T-mobile version) and it has lots of the branding, now I would like to simply flash it with a clean software(ROM) so it would have an original boot screen and stuff but I dont know how to do it (i looked at the flashing tutorial but I did not understand it at all, although I know how to flash Nokias and Sony Ericssons )
Would someone be able to provide me with a few simple steps what to do? This is the t-mobile version with 1024 mb of rom and 16gb internal memory. (Well it has the simlock as well but as far as I know the ebay seller has to provide me with an unlock code as they promised). I am sorry for creating another topic but this is my first Windows phone I ever had and I really want to get it working asap because at the moment I can not even call/text because of the simlock.
I am unsure whether I should have posted it in the ROM section or the General section so mods please move it if applicable.
Oh No. I just realised there is a special forum for T-Mobile HD2's. Sorry!
Thanks for any support. I will appreciate it a lot.
Look Here. Do try to at least read the stickys before posting. This thread is found in the T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM Development forum, believe it or not.

Did you even read his post before giving him crap?
He said he read it but didn't understand it. I don't really blame him since that write up is a bit confusing. I even had a hard time following it and I had owned and flashed my Fuze long before going to my HD2.
It's a pretty simple process. Go to the T-Mob section/ROM section. Find a ROM you would like to try. You will also want to download the HSPL found in the tutorial. Run HSPL once the phone say "We Hacked It" you are good to flash a custom ROM of your choice. Once you download the ROM you want go into the file and pull out the file ending in nbh. If it does not have the name LEOIMG.nbh rename it to such then place it on the main directory of the memory card. Go into bootloader by turning the phone off, pressing the volume keys then while pressing them press the power/end call key. Once there just follow what it asks/tells you.
It's that simple. You don't have to worry about doing task29 right off the bat. So let that wait till later when you are more confident of what you are doing.

Everything you need to know is in that post. I worked it out reading from the same tutorial, how is it that he fails to do the same?
can you be more specific in your question? what part is hanging you up?
also...why can't you make calls? that doesn't seem good...
Would his simlock issue not be him trying to use a non t-mo sim in this phone!?!?

Maybe because you had a WM phone before owning an HD2 and already understood the flashing process? He said he read it and didn't understand it clearly because he had never owned a WM phone before this one. Like I said there is some confusing information in that post that kind of conflicts with itself. It could have been written a bit more clearly. The OP of the tut kind of takes it that the person reading it should already know some things about flashing.
Also to the OP of this thread. Changing the ROM will not sim unlock the phone it will simply update the OS. If you want to get the sim unlocked you only have a few choices. You can either wait for the person you bought it from to come up with one for you, you can go to one of serveral sites and purchase one (normally around $14 US), or you can contact T-Mobile for it. Since you are3 most likely trying to run this on another carrier that latter will not work for you.
Also what carrier are you trying to put this on. Depending on the carrier you might have limited service. If you are trying to put this on At&t it will not get 3g service.
I looked at those ROMs, but they are all modified, all I want is a brand new rom with no t-mobile stuff and I would stick with it until my htc skills get better. I just really want to get the software stuff done before I actually start using the phone.
- I think I will get the code tomorrow, they have to give me one as its a part of the transaction.
- I tried to use it with 3 UK as I live in the UK.
- I can't make calls as I can not start the phone with my UK simcard (I made it sound like a faulty phone in my first post).
Once again, sorry for posting in a wrong section... I was too unpatient. Got my phone in hands and gone to xda-developers.com straight away hoping to get everything done quickly and then I realised the difference between HD2 and HD2 Tmobile
Simply... I understood the tutorial better after reading it many times, but all I want is just debrand my phone (with no cooked roms or any other stuff), at least now.

Ummm the only rom for the TMOUS HD2 you are going to find "Without" the TMO stuff is a Custom rom ...
To take the TMO stuff out you have to MODIFY, or you take another ROM from another provider and MODIFY it ... So for what you are looking for is a clean, slim custom ROM ...
There are a few out there that are really slimmed down ROMs some even very close to stock , find one that sounds like you like and is compatible with your phone and give it a whirl , you will need HSPL first, HSPL3 is out so search for it ...
Just in case if someone wants to help me searching for a "clean, slim custom ROM", I will provide some hardware and software info that I think my be useful.
Ram Size: 576mb
Flash size: 1024mb
OS Version 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87) - isn't Windows (6).5.3 out?
Manila version: 2.5.20121412.1
Rom Version: 2.10.531.1 (82076)
Radio Version: 2.08.50.08_2
I will have a look for a clean rom (is anyone using a clean rom or is it just me demanding too much from that phone?). Please help me look for one...

I prefer the energy ROMs but they may not be close enough to stock for you
so look here ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656835
If you seen 21xxx in the OS version it is 6.5
If you see 23xxx it is 6.5.x (Actually I think 23xxx is 6.5.3.xxx)
Basically getting rid of startup and shutdown logos would be good.
This is the generic rom I would like to use but it will not work: htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=2&dl_id=856
Is there no equivalent ROM to this one but for the TMO US version?
And finally, I can hardly find any clean ROM but i will keep searching...
EDIT: I found the newest T-mobile rom on their website which I have now downloaded... is there a way I could remove all branding from there before I flash it into my phone?
Btw, Is it true that the US TMO HD2 will not work with 3G network in UK? I'm scared now
I will make a new topic in the appropiate Tmobile HD2 Section... Please answer there if you want to help me.
My bad I did not notice the tmobile section before... Sorry Once Again.

I searched and did not find anything on this which suprised me but can i do all of the same stuff on the tmo version of the hd2 as i can on the original hd2? Like same roms, radios, mods dual boot and all that good stuff? Reason i am asking is because im looking to buy an hd2 but the tmo version is 100-150$ cheaper on ebay. Also if you know any good sites to buy the phone from that would be great!
Thanks

The ROM has to be TMOUS compatible, most chefs are doing this ...
As far as Radios, only x.xx.50.x radios on the TMOUS or it could brick ..
Most of the mods and such will work the same ...
The only exception I see that could cause you an issue, the TMOUS will not get AT&T 3G due to the Radio Difference ...
There is an EU model, and it escapes me now, that will ...
But the TMOUS version has 575mb of Ram and 1024 ROM where the EU version is I think like 480 and 512 ...
Hope that helps

Hi , I have HD2 and I want to install android OS on it. I found a lot of solutions on this website like booting from SD Card and NAND solutions, but I have one question. Is there any NOR version installation and in general which is better NOR or NAND ? Sorry for this maybe general question but I need help and I would also wanted to consult with you . Thanks , every help is appreciated.
Hi there mate.!
Never heard anything about the NOR version that you are talking sorry
There are 2 ways to install Android OS in your device and they are posted in sub-forums in here and i think you have already saw them
The SD version is if you don't want to leave wm6.5 but wanna give Android a try!
(thats the easiest way to install it)
And the NAND version if you have decided that you want Android OS in your mobile and ofc Android will have much better performance in NAND than SD
PS: my opinion is if you don't want mw6.5 anymore go read some posts and install the NAND version cause you will have much much more performance
I hope i helped
there are no nor versions, you on about running a version in ram ?
Hi and thanks for a quick reply and more than helpful answers. I need to ask you several more things. Since I want to install NAND version, because of the performance, I need the latest version . I saw several instructions for 2.2 and 2.3 android. Can you give me the link to the 2.3 newest installation link. Also is there any known issue after installation (like no wireless network, or some applications doesn't work...)

As Richy said there are sooo many roms for you to try
The 2.3.5 rom for me is the most stable if you want your phone to work 100% 24/7 with no battery consume!
Now its up to you if you want Sense 2.2 or 3 if you want MIUI or Gingerbeard or or or or or
For me it goes like this :
1:Go to NAND sub-forum
2: Find a good and updated Rom for your mobile (at the front of each title its the release day) enter it and read the full description the dev gives you and to all the steps!!!!
3: for correct use of your wifi,gps,etc.....find a good kernel (Most devs gives you a kernel of their choise with their ROM)
Thats all you need to know...all you have to do is read the hole post carefully
And just an opoinion..if you want a fast and stable (not a fancy one) ROM go for a MIUI and a good one is this Mwakious
and this is Kefir's Kernel
Good luck and if you need anythink PM me
PS: if you think i helped you hit the THANKS button

When the T-Mobile version is mentioned, it is purely indicating that it is a TMOUS HD2 with 1024 MB ROM and the T-Mobile logo on the top. The carrier doesn't matter

Are you sure that carrier doesn't matter , US has different frequencies , and this is T-mobile US (TMOUS). If the carrier doesn't matter ,can I then install in switzerland on orange HD2 according to the procedure for T-Mobile new gignerbread ?
If not can someone give me some links for my HD2 please. I searched NAND 2.3 android but some of the topics are from 2010 and some of them after installation have various types of problems.
Thanks !
Hi there, I was exactly where you were 3 weeks ago. I picked up a second HD2 as my WM HD2 phone is heavily loaded with apps and files etc. and I did not want to risk stuffing it. I played with a couple of versions with HTC Sense but then tried TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 and found it smaller, faster and more stable + much slicker than WM.
After just 3 days and a few new apps like Swype and Wi-Fi tethering, I cut over to droid forever. Next I will do my original HD2 to make it a mirror backup.

As long as you have a TMOUS phone, you can install the T-Mobile US version. As for the Android ROM, have you even looked in the NAND Development forums? There are tonnes of ROMs, none of them even remotely old, which work perfectly. Take Typhoon CM7 or Hyperdroid, for example.
