Is there Jasjar With 128 Ram as a second edition ???
thx
afaik there is no support for >64mb ram in windows mobile. therefore no version of uni or any other device. even if you add ram to uni (there are slots for it).
I thought the Athena had 128mb ram
Yes, it has.

wrong, ba and hima have 128mb
universal used to (pre-production) have 128mb, hence the extra slots. however just soldering the memory is not enough, something else (hardware, proabbly capacitor) must be added before the motherboard detects it. after then it is an easy modification to make wm5/6 see it

ba and hima don't have the 64mb flash tho? they use 64mb of it for storage therefore still 64mb ram.
i'm fairly sure someone tried it and it didn't work.
You are wrong, any wm support up to 512 mb of ram... and ce 6 even more. somehow the only way to have 128 in uni is to open a pre-production and see how it is soldered. one guy had a uni with 128 ram and wm2k3se, but he cracked the screen and the money he got for his 128 mb board and 2k3 rom was enough to buy a new one, with 64mb

I've been looking through HTC website out of boredom and found something interesting. They have two different sections for Magic, one for Vodafone Magic and another for plain HTC Magic:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/magic/specification.html - HTC Magic
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/magic/specification.html - Vodafone Magic
If you look closely, you will notice that some specs are different, such as RAM (288mb for HTC version, 192mb for Vodafone) and mainboard Qualcomm® MSM7200A™ for HTC, Qualcomm® MSM7201A™ for Vodafone.
Now I wonder whether this is just typo/wrong info on the website or Europeans received inferior hardware?
P.S. Not to mention that US will receive a 5Mpix camera in their Magic, which will be another hardware rendition.
The size and weight differs a bit also. But there are atleast one typo in the Vodafone specs since it doesn't say that the phone has AD2P (which the HTC version says) although the Vodafone version confirmed has AD2P.
mainboard
Regarding the mainboard, there is basically no difference between the MSM7200A and MSM7201A. The renaming is due to the patent infringement suit between Qualcomm and Broadcom in the US.
any ideas on when the HTC verison will be released unlocked to the US?
same thing here in Australia- HTC australia website- http://www.htc.com/au/product.aspx
have 2 different versions of the magic... not sure why anyone would want to go for the voda.... its inferior to the HTC.... why would voda do this instead of just rebadging the HTC version?
MSM7200A (the mainboard in HTC Magic) uses 90nm technology, while MSM7201A (the one in Vodafone Magic) uses more advanced 65nm. Potentially this can lead to less power consumption on the latter device.

What would the significance of this be? Care to take a guess at how much battery life it would add?
No idea, really. It just seemed logical to me. Also, additionaly RAM can potentially drain more power.
And considering how Android handles multitasking, excessive amount of RAM is not necessary (when you switch from one application to another, the first one is actually closed and it's state is saved. When you switch back to it, it is being launched again restoring last saved state. Of course it doesn't apply to top layer applications such as IM which stay resident in memory all the time - this is how Google answered the "why can't we close/exit apps question which arose end of last year)

Yea I remember Google saying that as well; there is no need to close apps. I still think that I would prefer apps always running more smoothly than having the extra battery life. If you can get things done quicker with more RAM then you don't have to suck on the battery for as long therefore saving more battery. That would mean that the difference in battery life is not so significant however there is an added performance boost with more RAM.
I agree, but then I wonder why Samsung is releasing i7500 with 128mb of RAM only.

They probably gave it up for other features, cause that device packs a punch for its body.
I think I read a story about the original device not being as good as the known one today. Supposedly some company taunted them that they the camera was bad, had no flash, no SD slot and was excessive in thickness. Don't know if it was true but their device now is
So is there any confirmation from a magic-type device on how much RAM it has? The HTC UK page says 192MB while the main HTC page says 288MB. The recent gizmodo review of the google ion phone say it has 288MB but I'm not sure how that was determined. Is there a way to see how much ram a device has from within the phone's OS? Someone with a google ion phone needs to look at the spec in the documentation, if any.
I thought perhaps the 288MB was a typo since many of the new WinMo phones have 288MB as well. The leaked sapphire service manual from March shows 192MB Ram.
There's basically some confusion because the device has been re branded many times.
As far as I know (in terms of hardware) the only difference between them is the RAM.
The Vodafone Magic has 192MB RAM.
The HTC Magic has 288MB RAM.
The Google Ion also has 288MB RAM; it is the same as T-Mobile's Magic; T-Mobile's Magic is the same as the HTC Magic.
Why would Vodafone ship a phone with less memory compared to T-Mobile/Google? Seems pointless, concidering that there can't really be any price difference.

Maybe Vodafone don't have to pay as much for it; they get more money. Most people probably wouldn't notice anyway.
Yeah but that was my point, decreasing RAM with ~100mb can't really make any noticeable difference at all, especially not since it means there has to be two different production lines for the same phone. I don't really think that economy is behind such a decision.

The Vodafone spec page is wrong.
My UK Vodafone Magic is reporting 288MB of Ram.. (Well 295MB, but that's using "Useful Switchers" and from what i can ascertain this is a rounding error)
If anyone knows of any marketplace app that can show me my memory accurately in MB please let me know - if anyone wants a screen shot let me know and i'll upload later.

Are you sure you're not looking at 295MB of free user storage? I remember seeing an Ion screenshot with that same 295MB number and another number showing how much free space on the SD card.
Please open up Terminal application and issue the following command:
cat /proc/meminfo |grep -i memtotal
Please post your findings here. It would be interesting to see values from Vodafone, TIM and Google Ion devices.

I have the Vodafone Magic.
I have 101 applications installed in my phone. In internal phone storage available space is 148MB only.My question is what might be decreased 1GB of storage to 148MB. Is it because of so many applications??
Does this effect RAM??
Is 256MB of RAM included in 1GB??
Help me out...

Correct. Android 1.6 can only handle 256MB (i think anyway). Its like Windows XP and the 3.2GB RAM limit - sure you can put more than that in the machine but it will only see the maximum amount it can use.

can anyone see the size of the RAM being increased over time, perhaps not with 2.1 but in the future, only reason i'm asking is because this is one of the few 1ghz high end phones with less than 512mb of ram and this is a requirment for android 3.0. thinking ahead here . it's just dissapointing to know :/
i'm still very excited about 2.1's arrival which i have been searching for almost every day
just got my xperia x10 last week after a long hard choice between that and the HTC desire and i've never really been a Sony Ericsson fan as all my old phones had software issues and crashed a lot, not what i expected.
Any way it really is a brilliant phone but like everyone says 'the outdated software' is the phones only major dissapointment.

there have been some posts on websites about the recommended requirements, which to be fair seems a bit steep for a mobile operating system, now unfortunately i can't past the link you'll have to Google 'android 3.0 recommended requirements' or something similar
details below
Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery App on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Eldar also confirmed my musings about the death of third party User Interface shells like HTC Sense, MotoBlur, etc;. Android 3.0 basically kills the need for them.
Still, there’s some hope for third party vendors here – while Google takes over the UI on the high end, vendors get to keep their UI shells/improvements on mass market Android smartphones, running Eclair or Froyo.
Update: I posted an update to this post, where I address Dan Morrill’s tweet, and do some corrections/clarifications regarding the upcoming Android update number issues, “minimum” specs – thay are actually only “recommended”, and the the split between high end Android 3 – low end Android 2.2 devices – it’s not an official Google policy, but it is happening nonetheless.
When I run diskusage it shows me having 465 for data so it looks like we dont even get 512. Will the 2.1 update let us install all this stuff on the sd card?
give me your opinions about the Samsung Focus RAM
According to Microsoft, the RAM is 512.
Not sure who to believe MS, or the general interweb information.

Yea I just hope they didn't get it confused with the ROM size... AT&T has a PDF spec sheet that says 256MB. Only time will tell I guess.
Well I emailed Samsung PR again and got a response that makes me weary about the 512MB of RAM email I received. I asked how much ROM space (not storage space) the phone will have and got 8GB. I even stated in the email not to confuse with the 8GB of user storage. So it could in fact have 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM. Man, I hope Microsoft's WP7 website is right.
If that's the case, I may have to get the Surround even though I don't want to...

That's exactly my line of thinking - surround instead of focus if the focus only has 256mb of RAM.
But, watching the videos of the focus it looks as fluid as the other 512mb RAM phones.....maybe 256mb is all you need. Particularly given the fact that the Windows OS spreads across RAM (inc. the memory card).
The Focus will have 512mb not 256mb. This is a specific Microsoft WP7 requirement.

I hope you're right. Because I saw the specs that Microsoft required a minimum of 256MB. AT&T has a spec sheet that shows 256MB as well. I want AT&T to be wrong and MS website to be right.
Every review I've seen today shows only 256mb of ram. With the lack of 3rd party multitasking apps I don't see this as being a major problem. Having said that I would have liked the phone to have 512mb just in case. You can never have too much ram.

You're wrong WP7 specific requirement is 256mb of ram or higher. 8gb of storage or higher. Did you see the keynote 6 months ago. The LG quantum being released on At&t will also have 256mb of ram. The surround will have 512 with 448mb available to the user.

I stand corrected.
Samsung Focus is the phone I want to get without settlling. THe HD7 is a little too big for me, I might as well get a tablet. However like a few people here, I might have to settle for the HTC Surround if the Focus does indeed only have 256MB RAM.
Sure it may be acceptable now with 256MB but MS could release Windows Phone SP1 or SP2 with multitasking enabled. I also know too many iPhone users who will gloat if I get a phone with less RAM than theirs. I am still up in the air and wish the decision were easy if the Focus had 512MB RAM or the Surround had a microSD slot.
If I do get the Surround, it looks like I will need to sell this 32GB microSD card I just purchased..
The thing is Microsoft recently updated their 'at-a-glance' WP7 site to correct inaccuracies and it still shows the Focus at 512MB RAM.
[www dot microsoft dot com/presspass/presskits/windowsphone/glance.aspx]
Yes! Engadget confirmed the RAM is 512MB and the ROM will be 1GB! The Samsung PR lady that emailed me was right.

Engadget.com just updated their review earlier today saying the Focus has 512 RAM and 1GB ROM. Which is.good to know.
Also said, unlike any other WP7 phone, you can expand memory using micro sd slot. Only problem is it supposedly wipes your device every time you put one in or take it out. So don't take it out.

Microsoft's website shows the same RAM & ROM. So there's a good chance it will.
Good news indeed. This and the GPS (concerns it would suffer the same as the Galaxy S devices) were the only two things holding me back from this device. Now, November 8th can't get here soon enough.
Good afternoon,
I posted this question on another droid tablet related forum, but I have been unable to find an answer, so either I am really dense and asking a really dumb question (hooray for me then) or no one knows the answer... yet!
I am hoping this is an I D 10 T error on the users part because I already had one defective Transformer and am not looking forward to a second return, but here goes me hoping for an answer!
When I pull up running apps on my tf101 under settings, it shows I only have a total of 562 megs of ram. It usually fluctuates at about 112 megs being used and 450 free adding up to well below 1 gig of ram. Doesn't the tf101come with 1 gig of ram? Is part of the ram locked down for future updates, or am I in possession of a defective tablet?
Thanks in advance.
I should mention I have the 16 gig version with a 16 gig mini memory card plugged into the unit (PNY brand I believe if it matters). I have upgraded to Honeycomb 3.1, and show no available updates from ASUS (I also have not rooted my tablet it is running stock OS no funny business here!).
There is 1G of ram TOTAL, but this is shared with the video carveout, framebuffers, and probably a few other things that need shared system memory.

Thank you, I was kinda assuming that it was just ram being locked down for other processes and unusable, but thought I better ask some experts since I had some terrible luck with my first tf101.
