problem with typing - HD2 General

The hd2 is a real nice phone but im having this problem. When i try to type a sms it takes me a lot more time then normal. I think this is because of the touchescreen which works capacitive.
But my friend recently bought the htc legend which has the same touch input and i can type very fast and accurate.
Im also having trouble if im surfing the internet and like most forums there are multiple pages on bottom right as 1 2 3 4 5 6 .. but those numbers are so small i cant click the correct one. If i want to go to 2 im either pressing 1 or 3 or4 and maybe if im lucky i get 2.
Is there anything to solve this?

The sms and keyboard issue is a well known problem on the HD2. It simply sucks, especially if you've got many messages on your phone.
Regarding the web browsing, you'll have to use the "pinch-to-zoom" (like on the iPhone) to zoom in even more so that you can hit the buttons. Remember, most webpages aren't made for tiny screens like on the HD2. They're made for like 17" or more.

Ah so fingekeyboard good?? I tried swype which works great but doesnt have dutch
I have opera 10 ye and i cant use pinch zoom, or do i need zoomer for this to work?

fingerkeyboard 2.1 is normal typing, not swyping.. i dont like that swyping thingie^.^
yea, if u use opera 10 and want pinchzooming u need Zooomer for that.. search it in the forum, im sure u will find it
just scan the entire device with zooomer and activate multitouch in opera10

I tried fingerkeyboard 2.1 just now and typed a sms without making 1 single typing mistake! I did some mistyping but with the t9 it was corrected perfectyly very happy with it
Im going to try zoomer now haha

Bigger on screen keyboard usin truevga

Im loving the ameo and the gorgeous vga screen especially when i use the truevga program.
Just have 1 wish.
Is there anyway to get the onscreen keyboard, when using truevga, to be the same size n scale as when its set to its biggest setting without truevga?
I love typing using the onscreen keyboard especially using my fingers (getting the hang of it, hehe) as i find the add on hardware keyboard a pain to use, never seems to keep up, misses letters out etc. I never carry it about with me, and i get more and more frustrated the more i use it.
Any help would be spot on and appreciated. Cheers. (apologies if this is covered ianother topic, i searched but couldnt find any answers)
Many thanks
Have you tried Resco Keyboard? From what I remember it works perfectly in VGA. Worth a try!
Yup, Resco keyboard is perfect for truevga mode, although I hardly ever use the onscreen keys anymore.
More importantly, is there a *proper* dialpad skin for truevga mode? I have tried some hacks (vjbigphone, some hacks from China that modifies 2 dll files) and I'm left with a feeling of "what were they thinking at microsoft allowing only 240x320?".
Thats the chappy!
Thanks alot, resco keyboard is spot on, just what i was looking for.
You never know maybe Microsoft will get it right and include things like, VGA Support in their next os? hehe!
Thanks again
Can you guys post a screenshot of how Resco Keyboard looks in VGA mode?
Edit: Thanks and never mind. Going to install the trial now.

You could also use HappyTapping Keyboard posted here in the forum. Comes with various skins.
SBS Keyboard...hmmmm full screen.
Resco Keyboard was ok but ive found the because of the number keys being across the top, the keys are actually smaller than the without TrueVGA standard display keyboard with the bigger keys.
I am however having a play with this http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/fsk/screenshots.html?en
Its not too bad, full screen so is easy to type, im not sure if its won me round yet, altho the price is pretty good $9.99!
Its ok for texting, and i havent really tried it with anything else, with things like excel tho i can see it possibly being a problem as it does take up the full screen and transfers the text across in a big chunk.
I like the idea tho.
See what you think!
I tried out Resco Keyboard. It is a good QWERT keyboard. But later I found another which is way way better. It's also a QWERT keyboard but you need not type at the exact location of the key. It group all the 26 letters into 6 grouping. As long as you touch the grouping it will give you the right word 95 % of the time. 5% of the time you may have to choose the other "hint words" which could be formed with those grouping. Of course if you type it like the way you use normal keyboard, which is to exactly touch one of the tiny 26 keys, it will give you exactly what you want like normal keyboard without the need to choose from the hint word.
It supporst VGA. There are a few different versions, some allowing you to use yout thumb to type. In all case, I was able to do very fast typing without the stylus on VGA screen.
The free version can be downloaded here: www.free.tengo.net
The various commercial versions here: www.tengo.net
Enjoy
thanks eaglesteve i will look into it. to be honest ive gone back to the standard non vga setting now using the bigger setting on the standard screen keyboard as to me its the easiest most natural way to type and is the least frustrating!
altho if there was a way of having the non vga bigger keyboard in truevga then id be happier! hehe. cheers guys.

Hi Tomchap,
No, there is no need to go back to QVGA if small keyboard is your only concern. I had the same reaction as you when I first went VGA.
VGA or QVGA aside, having to press at the PRECISE location of each of the keys is a mistake prone and stressful. That's why TenGO is good.
Tell me what you think after you've tried it.
Cheers
Thanks for the recommendations, im currently trialing Tengo Free, and its a bit of a learning curve but im going to stick at it. From initial first impressions I would still have to say that I prefer the Large Keys Keyboard Configuration of the standard VGA keyboard at the moment but will see how i get on.
I really want to like the VGA mode so will see.
If there was some kind of halfscreen keyboard that looks just like the Large Key standard keyboard then that would be spot on.
Thanks for all your help so far.

I tried this on my Athena but it didn't work. Did you install both CABs on your Athena or only the first?
I keep trying to switch to the new keyboard but it never shows up. I always get the default. Did you run into this?
Same Problem
I get the same thing, Ive installed everything as stated, copied the relevant BMP files across to My documents but it doesnt seem to work.
I find that when you click on HAPPYTAPPINGKEYBOARD and then OPTIONS it seems to be looking on the MICRODRIVE instead as if you select MYDOCUMENTS nothing is displayed?
Will keep looking at the forums and see what i can find out. The files are there, just doesnt appear that the programs looking at them.
Best one I found
Try dynatype keyboard. I was looking for a keyboard for vga and qvga and had tried all mentioned here. a few minutes with dynatype and I went to purchase it!. The free trial option is very annoying as it keeps asking you to buy the keyboard so know this in advance.
The options this keyboard has is fantastic! Try it and look at the options, play with it setting the keyboard to how YOU like it. Its very very nice. You can buy it at pocketgear.com or handango.

That is how the full screen keyboard on my Nokia N800 works, and it works great. Using both thumbs, I can almost type as fast as with a hardware keyboard, with very few mistakes.
On my Athena WM5 Dutch I am not able to activate a third party onscreen keyboard.
I remember having seen something about that but could not find the thread. Is there a problem with these type of keyboards and WM5?

I was actually looking at Fingertouch
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=fingertouch [/url],
It seems a very good product (for the money) but the PocketCM seems more suitable for my needs.
FingerTouch and HappyTapping...
Well ive been using fingertouch for a few days now and I have to say I think its the best one so far. Apart from the DELETE or BACKSPACE key bein next to the F OFF (oeer is that trying to tell me something, hehe!) Key once you get used to that its fine.
I really rate this keyboard and I can type pretty quick on it. HappyTappingKeyboard is also very good, these are the keyboards I use the most.
Thanks for all your help guys, and any more keyboards that you discover, post here!
Cheers

Try also Tengo Thumb and Tengo 2.1 instead of free Tengo. Tengo2.1 offers 3 options, one of which is the regular standard keyboard.
Tengo Thumb is very easy to use with the Thumb, if you do not mind the screen being more covered up by the keyboard. I am able to type very fast with my Thmub on Tengo2.1 but if you have very big finger this may be more difficult.

I like opera Mini, it works really REALLY well over GPRS. But it does take about a minute to get the first page open, that's a pain. Also teh Cut & Paste Naturally doesn't work! So .... I wish opera mini as a WM app would be made

i can verify that 1126 doesn't allow you to write in the url bar with the keyboard. only extreme right and left letters, and all number keys are still numbers. But while typing with the software keyboard, it only works in qwerty mode, and not the xt9 or abc xt9 formatted mode. Hardware keyboard works only when typing in field, and is incredibly slow.
i Had this issue when I had this issue when I had the diamond keyboard installed removing it rectified those issues, I however just tried in the url and that only shows numbers but as I confirmed im writing this with the keyboard not the on screen board

Opera of TOUCH HD build 2649 on X1

Hi all,
i tried to install the Opera rip from the Touch HD which was posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2842296&postcount=1523
first thing to say is it is amazing fast compared to our build in the X1 and it is wqorking really good, but there is one really big problem which makes it useless
If you wanna key in an url with the Hardware keyboard, then after starting after some seconds the fild disapears , with the software keyboard this problem doesnt happen.
I really hope that sony comes soon with an update, or an developer can fix it on this build haha

yes if you longer dont write something but with the HTC build you can write and it will go away anyway so this is an different problem
the X1 version of opera is said to be optimized for the X1 and running really fast (@pocketnow.com Review Youtube Video)
so why install the Touch HD version ?
the TouchHD build is much faster then the built in version, also it has an better xperience in my eyes when it comes to zooming and other things
its still version 9.5, just another build...cant make much difference
did you try it with the same websites, same connection speed etc ?
believe me it is a lot faster on same webpages with same connection (WLAN)
the page rendering is faster, how it displays the page is better, specially on zooming, loadtime is better.
Believe it, i tested it, but have to hardreset to get it away again and to get the originla opera for x1 again.
regards cHarOn
alright, but with that bug you mentioned its not really worth changing
yes agree , its not worth, thats why i posted it , to warn the users, or maybe to see some developers to have an solution for that , maybe i should try an Touch Pro build also, but that is only for VGA and i dont know what happens then
I'm using 2723 and it's much faster than the default one. It loads pages faster, plus it scrolls much much faster, the flick scroll can keep up with your flicks.
The onlt thing is it can't use the default startpage and uses it's own.
I've been trying loads of builds, but I think this is the latest from the Opera site.
works there also the hardware keyboard as it should, i mean if you key in an long webadress will it stay viewable?
ok tested the last beta and you are right, it runs also really fast, same as the Touch HD Build and the good thing with the beta is , it doesnt overwrite the SE Build, it makes an extra installation called Opera Beta, so you can easy remove it again if you dont like it, or let it installed and you can use both
where to you get that build ? Just the latest version from the opera website ?
What about Skyfire ? I heard that is the best browser for WinMo

SkyFire won't even run in VGA let alone WVGA
What build is the buildin one (since I don't have my X1 "yet")? I remember there are 2 major version for Opera. The build 2xxx version has this keyboard timeout issue while the 19xx version will not on my Att Tilt
2141 is the build which is installed

But it is actually the same problem,it dissapears while i write.
trying out the new beta (9.51) and there the google-field works ok,it,s also faster and more polished in zoom and so on higly recommended.
hmm thats strange, that doesnt happen on mine, it only happens if i stop writing and wait some seconds, but on the HTC build it happens after writing 3 letters and i am fast
so i got 951b2.cab from the website, is that the build you refer to ?
will get my X1 today hopefully

WM not ready for Capacitive Screen???

It's quite hard to tick box, pull down menu etc...
Classic exapmle is the tick box on the Task..
Will HTC fix this ?????
No problems here and I haven't got the world's slenderest fingers.
No problems here either and I have fat fingers
I know what you are saying though and this is what Microsoft are trying to resolve with the 6.5.x ROMs.
THere is a problem
I agree with you absolutely. It is very difficult to do all that. That's why I got AE Plus - with that you can have an "enter" command and you got reallocate your hard Vol up/down slider too to page (or line) up/down or even right arrow/left arrow.
With all the moaning & groaning on the Leo forum, I ordered a capacitive stylist the same time I ordered my Leo....haven't used it yet, but it's there if I decide to paint by numbers.
Use the zoom functionality! Take your fingers in any windows mobile menu and pinch to zoom like on pictures! My HD2 with standard 1.43 Ger can do this in all windows menus so you get really large buttons after zooming, no way that you miss them...
No problems here!
I can use the checkboxes, pulldown menus etc. all with my fingers.
I don't ever use the zoom feature, but if something is really too small for you, just use pinch to zoom.
By the way: When HSPL is out, you can flash a WM6.5SE ROM, which is completely optimized for finger use, but it's still beta, so expect some bugs if you flash that.

Multitouch in Internet Explorer

There is a video on youtube showing the HTC HD2 running internet explorer with multitouch working - pinch to zoom.
Now I know IE is not the popular choice but I find the flash support in some of the newer roms to be excellent and I probably use IE more than Opera.
Does anyone know how to get multitouch working in IE?
You could use BSBtweaks which lets you add apps to pinch to zoom and rotate.

The ROM won't change this - it's part of the OS. For some reason, you can't add pinch-to-zoom to some programs. IE is one of them.

Ah, that sucks a little, IE has become quite a good browser, if I could get multitouch, like in the video, I could ditch opera :-(
Anyone know of any other solutions?

Bump, was thinking the same
i wasnt liking the new implementation of opera 10 and was searching for a tweak in IE
The version that you are seeing is a special one that Adobe used to show off flash 10.1 running on the device with 'propper' pinch zoom built in. I'm sure it will eventualy leak in one of the 6.5.x builds, but until MS leak it then we are stuffed.
