Bigger on screen keyboard usin truevga - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Im loving the ameo and the gorgeous vga screen especially when i use the truevga program.
Just have 1 wish.
Is there anyway to get the onscreen keyboard, when using truevga, to be the same size n scale as when its set to its biggest setting without truevga?
I love typing using the onscreen keyboard especially using my fingers (getting the hang of it, hehe) as i find the add on hardware keyboard a pain to use, never seems to keep up, misses letters out etc. I never carry it about with me, and i get more and more frustrated the more i use it.
Any help would be spot on and appreciated. Cheers. (apologies if this is covered ianother topic, i searched but couldnt find any answers)
Many thanks

Have you tried Resco Keyboard? From what I remember it works perfectly in VGA. Worth a try!

Yup, Resco keyboard is perfect for truevga mode, although I hardly ever use the onscreen keys anymore.
More importantly, is there a *proper* dialpad skin for truevga mode? I have tried some hacks (vjbigphone, some hacks from China that modifies 2 dll files) and I'm left with a feeling of "what were they thinking at microsoft allowing only 240x320?".

Thats the chappy!
Thanks alot, resco keyboard is spot on, just what i was looking for.
You never know maybe Microsoft will get it right and include things like, VGA Support in their next os? hehe!
Thanks again

Can you guys post a screenshot of how Resco Keyboard looks in VGA mode?
Edit: Thanks and never mind. Going to install the trial now.

You could also use HappyTapping Keyboard posted here in the forum. Comes with various skins.

SBS Keyboard...hmmmm full screen.
Resco Keyboard was ok but ive found the because of the number keys being across the top, the keys are actually smaller than the without TrueVGA standard display keyboard with the bigger keys.
I am however having a play with this http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/fsk/screenshots.html?en
Its not too bad, full screen so is easy to type, im not sure if its won me round yet, altho the price is pretty good $9.99!
Its ok for texting, and i havent really tried it with anything else, with things like excel tho i can see it possibly being a problem as it does take up the full screen and transfers the text across in a big chunk.
I like the idea tho.
See what you think!

I tried out Resco Keyboard. It is a good QWERT keyboard. But later I found another which is way way better. It's also a QWERT keyboard but you need not type at the exact location of the key. It group all the 26 letters into 6 grouping. As long as you touch the grouping it will give you the right word 95 % of the time. 5% of the time you may have to choose the other "hint words" which could be formed with those grouping. Of course if you type it like the way you use normal keyboard, which is to exactly touch one of the tiny 26 keys, it will give you exactly what you want like normal keyboard without the need to choose from the hint word.
It supporst VGA. There are a few different versions, some allowing you to use yout thumb to type. In all case, I was able to do very fast typing without the stylus on VGA screen.
The free version can be downloaded here: www.free.tengo.net
The various commercial versions here: www.tengo.net
Enjoy

thanks eaglesteve i will look into it. to be honest ive gone back to the standard non vga setting now using the bigger setting on the standard screen keyboard as to me its the easiest most natural way to type and is the least frustrating!
altho if there was a way of having the non vga bigger keyboard in truevga then id be happier! hehe. cheers guys.

Hi Tomchap,
No, there is no need to go back to QVGA if small keyboard is your only concern. I had the same reaction as you when I first went VGA.
VGA or QVGA aside, having to press at the PRECISE location of each of the keys is a mistake prone and stressful. That's why TenGO is good.
Tell me what you think after you've tried it.
Cheers

Thanks for the recommendations, im currently trialing Tengo Free, and its a bit of a learning curve but im going to stick at it. From initial first impressions I would still have to say that I prefer the Large Keys Keyboard Configuration of the standard VGA keyboard at the moment but will see how i get on.
I really want to like the VGA mode so will see.
If there was some kind of halfscreen keyboard that looks just like the Large Key standard keyboard then that would be spot on.
Thanks for all your help so far.

I tried this on my Athena but it didn't work. Did you install both CABs on your Athena or only the first?
I keep trying to switch to the new keyboard but it never shows up. I always get the default. Did you run into this?

Same Problem
I get the same thing, Ive installed everything as stated, copied the relevant BMP files across to My documents but it doesnt seem to work.
I find that when you click on HAPPYTAPPINGKEYBOARD and then OPTIONS it seems to be looking on the MICRODRIVE instead as if you select MYDOCUMENTS nothing is displayed?
Will keep looking at the forums and see what i can find out. The files are there, just doesnt appear that the programs looking at them.

Best one I found
Try dynatype keyboard. I was looking for a keyboard for vga and qvga and had tried all mentioned here. a few minutes with dynatype and I went to purchase it!. The free trial option is very annoying as it keeps asking you to buy the keyboard so know this in advance.
The options this keyboard has is fantastic! Try it and look at the options, play with it setting the keyboard to how YOU like it. Its very very nice. You can buy it at pocketgear.com or handango.

That is how the full screen keyboard on my Nokia N800 works, and it works great. Using both thumbs, I can almost type as fast as with a hardware keyboard, with very few mistakes.

On my Athena WM5 Dutch I am not able to activate a third party onscreen keyboard.
I remember having seen something about that but could not find the thread. Is there a problem with these type of keyboards and WM5?

I was actually looking at Fingertouch
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=fingertouch [/url],
It seems a very good product (for the money) but the PocketCM seems more suitable for my needs.

FingerTouch and HappyTapping...
Well ive been using fingertouch for a few days now and I have to say I think its the best one so far. Apart from the DELETE or BACKSPACE key bein next to the F OFF (oeer is that trying to tell me something, hehe!) Key once you get used to that its fine.
I really rate this keyboard and I can type pretty quick on it. HappyTappingKeyboard is also very good, these are the keyboards I use the most.
Thanks for all your help guys, and any more keyboards that you discover, post here!
Cheers

Try also Tengo Thumb and Tengo 2.1 instead of free Tengo. Tengo2.1 offers 3 options, one of which is the regular standard keyboard.
Tengo Thumb is very easy to use with the Thumb, if you do not mind the screen being more covered up by the keyboard. I am able to type very fast with my Thmub on Tengo2.1 but if you have very big finger this may be more difficult.

HTC Diamond Keyboard Issues on Mogul

Hi Guys,
after playing for about a week with the touch diamond keyboard on my mogul I've come to the conclusion of being the best SIP touch keyboard i've ever used BUT (here is the good part)
*"DO NOT INSTALL IT ON YOUR MOGUL UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CONTACT PREDICTION TO GO AWAY WHILE WRITING A MESSAGE OR EMAIL, SUPER SLOW INPUT WHILE WRITING AND ALSO IT TOOK 9 MINUTES TO UNINSTALL."*
with that being said it is up to you if you want to give it a try.

Other issues are that some are not able to uninstall unless they hard reset, issues arise with your physical keyboard.
These are not issues that arised on the 6800, but rather most devices out in the market. It has been stated in the thread with the leaked attached software that the software is very buggy and doesn't have proper testing.
Install at your own risk. I personally rather use the HTC Touch Keyboard and Keypad which is almost identical except for the skin.

Does this break the autocomplete feature for the slide out keyboard on sms/mms contacts too or just for the SIP keyboard?
Carlos, do you have a cab to upload for that HTC Touch keyboard? Cannot find by searching XDA.

auto complete only seems to work when you use xt9.
but other then that idk if there would be a way to be enable it.
I installed it and used it for a while... i must say its a great keyboard for a touchscreen... but then i realized the main reason why i got the mogul vs the touch, THE HARDWARE KEYBOARD!
This completely screwed up the autocomplete in emails and sms, text predictions and SIP options, even when using the hardware keyboard.
Uninstalling was a nightmare... so I did a hard reset and went on with my happy mogul...
I still think its a great software keyboard, but for a devise that its designed to... not the mogul
The Diamond keyboard seems to work on my Telus P4000 running DCD3.0.4 with the only bug being that when you press a key the icon for the selected key is really big but this goes away as soon as you life your finger so it isn't a big deal. Autocomplete seems to work for me but I never used it much so I may not be testing what others say is not working. If I create a new SMS and start typing in someone's name using any of the Diamond keyboards (since there are 3) or the hardware keyboard the name comes up before I finish typing so I don't think there's any issue with that.
The Touch keyboard is almost the same you say? I may have to try that one...
touch keyboard
Aledc78:
Just for clarification, the keyboard you had so much trouble with prediction and uninstalling was the Touch, or was it the Diamond? I'd really like to give the touch one a shot. My large fingers are WAY too big to even consider using the default WM6 keyboard, its a joke. I can't give up prediction though, and as a general rule I steer clear of anything that is a "nightmare" to uninstall.

I managed to uninstall Diamond keyboard. I used SK Tools to uninstall and voila...it got uninstalled
Stay away
Yeah, this keyboard is really a pile of crap. It broke all my auto complete, and it also broke the ability to page down by pressing the space bar in a browser. And mine wouldn't install at all, it sat there for over 30 minutes doing nothing, I had to hard reset to get rid of it.
Seriously, if you want a device without a keyboard, just buy a touch. A physicial keyboard is better than any soft ketboard anyway
I found the latest version of the CooTek TouchPal keyboard with the Diamond theme works a lot better on the Mogul than the Diamond Keyboard. It's not free though.
CoolTek
Still, compared to the Diamond ported keyboard, CoolTek sucks.
I'm surprised that the problem with inputting contacts and having them autocomplete via the Hardware Keyboard is still broken. The hardware keyboard is generally preferred, but the Diamond port is amazing in small spaces / one handed typing.
anyone know of a fix?

so...

whats a good keyboard to use like a iphone keyboard and i tried one but it didnt work? any help advice?
If you're talking about an on-screen keyboard I would go for TouchPal. Just google it and you'll find it.
Now the new version asks to buy it but you can still use it and it's the only one I use .
There's this one which isn't too bad -
http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard.php
I mainly use the HTC Touch keyboard which you can find in this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341867
If you decide to use both, you'll have to install the PCM one first or it will mess up the HTC one...for me at least.
TouchPal is an awesome keyboard that I just recently came across
http://www.cootek.com/
There was a link to it somewhere here on XDA and they were saying it's well worth taking a little time to get used to and after using it I fully agree.
My personal favorite so far is SlideIt. It's incredible but it has one major drawback, it's $40
http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Product/SlideIT/DownloadDemoPC.php
It's nice because you just drag your stylus or finger over the letters of the word, you don't have to be exact and it has excellent predictive capabilities.
By far the touchkey board is the best!!!! I had a black like it but it had something called x9 and i hated it!!! But touchkey board is the best!!!!! Works better then touchpal just because it was designed with touchflo in mind..
I use Resco Keyboard with the iSkin and it works great.

Finger Keyboard VGA is the best IMO, especially if you need language specific characters like I do with Swedish. See link in my sig.

Just love this keyboard app. The predictable text regarding word corrections and predictable word choice is phenomenal.
If you take the time to Read through this, then you will discover the hidden potential of this app

If you haven't calibrated your screen, you may try to do so.
There are some tips for learning how to type on this forum. Read it, it may help also.
Try to reduce the sensitivity of the screen, there is a twik how to do it, here on XDA among other tips. (Tips to Improve Typing Accuracy on Keyboard)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
I have also switched from hd only.
For some, it takes some time to get used to it.
Have patience. Just remember to touch as gently as u can.
Also, try the sensitivity tweaks.
What is the ROM you're using? If you're using 1.43 ROM, applying sensitivity cab would help.
At first I had some problem with the HTC keyboard but now I can type quite easily.
You should try Swype, it's a very good keyboard except it lacks direction keys on the main keyboard. Another interesting keyboard is Fingerkeyboard, you can seach this forum.

I used Energy ROM WM6.5 on my Blackstone in conjunction with Fingerkeyboard and loved it.
Moving to the Leo, I struggled with the standard HTC Keyboard but installed Fingerkeyboard and finding it almost as good as the Blackstone. Having used it for less than 24 hours, I am not yet used to the Leo screen but I do not feel that far behind where I was on the Blackstone already.
Methinks the best phone around (Blackstone) just got a whole lot better (Leo)
i am using stock 1.48
sometimes, the alpha jumps between the 2 letters... this is making me crazy
I hope this ins't redundant or something you're aware of, but the button you release, rather than touch first, is typed. In the day or so I've had mine I've concentrated on tapping quick, light and as straight up and down as possible.
HD to Leo
I struggled with the keyboard too coming from HD to Leo.
I am using cliquick which does the job, minus direction keys.

Keyboard is not good. Missing letters some time.

I got my X10 2 days ago. Previously i was using iPhone. Everybody know iPhone user interface is simply awesome. I like X10 as well. the issue currently i am facing is that when i type my messages some times i missed the letter and i have to press the letter again. specially letter 'a'. I am using android keyboard. Is this issue is because of keyboard or it's software issue. i know touch is perfect because i can see zoom in image of the letter. I also tried to disable sound, vibrate, dictionary etc. but no luck so far.
though in landscape it works fine.
Can anybody guide me how can i solve this issue?
Thanks,
I had the same problem with both the Android and standard keyboards.
The only way I fixed it was to install the HTC Keyboard. Works fantastic and it has a calibration tool so you can make it even more accurate than it already is.
Search for HTC X10 keyboard on google, I think there is a tutorial on esato or se-nse.
I'm afraid that this has become old news when it comes to the x10.
At the moment I can only suggest a workaround or two.
I have installed the HTC keyboard which I find very accurate. It can also be customized to allow the volume controls to control the cursor whilst typing.
Personally I find this to be the best solution.
Better keyboard is a paid app that can be downloaded from the market and offers another good solution.
I have heard in posts that swipe keyboard is another good alternative.
Finally I have heard that upgrading to the latest firmware available may help things. I debranded and upgraded to 1.6 but I still used the HTC as its familiar.
Another option is the Smart Keyboard Pro
yo try the app called shape writer. Its simply amazing, u will love it
HTC keyboard.. easy & free
Smart Keyborad PRO & Swype are also good options
actually the true problem to this is the sluggishness of the touchscreen which you'll experience in most other applications as well. the only solution is to type slower since no matter which keyboard you try you will always experience some random unset delay after each key before it actually registers on the screen. that by itself will hinder your ability to type fast and will introduce additional typos.
If you use SlideIT keyboard then you won't have any problems with sluggishness. ( which I've not experienced anyway). Its not as attractive add swype, but I find it much more accurate.
-------------------------------------
Sent from my X10i,
using SlideIT keyboard.
You can have landscape size buttons in portrait with 'Big Buttons' keyboard from the market, it takes a chunk of screen but your typing will be perfect
Thanks a lot, i just trid "big buttons", love it, the best one for people like me who are not very handy with their fingers

make sure you correctly enable the htc_ime mod keyboard from the list of keyboards in the input method options.
to bring up the input method option, when your vr keyboard is visible, long press any area where you input text and select htc ime mod.
If the htc keyboard is not available from that list, go to settings, locale and text and tick htc keyboard.

i don't think so. because other keyboards are working fine. the problem is with the firmware
I'm using shapewriter keyboard (free on the android market) ... perfect alternative to the swype keyboard & similar as well for those who arent able to get their hands on swype due to its limited beta release
Try ThickButton - it's pretty awesome - predicts what you want to type, and expands the size of appropriate keys, making the others smaller... You can also select how much they'll expand by (esp if you have really fat fingers, or type with your toes.)
