we know HTC Touch Pro2 has an on screen shutter button, do you find it difficult when you try to take photo of yourself?because you cant see the small on screen shutter button.
Do anyone know a tweak/altenative solution for this tiny shutter button?
make it bigger,or better yet, simply make it this way: the whole screen is the shutter button, you can take pictures by clicking anywhere of the screen.
I searched several hours without a thing,it seems that I am the first person who wants this.
Solution
The on screen button pissed me off too. Most particularly because I also turned off the shutter sound, so I would be holding the part of the screen thinking it took the picture...to turn the phone around and discover it only focused the image.
Install the keyboard controller for the rhodium, choose to add a key, press the PTT key "if you already have it mapped to something, don't worry. I also have apps mapped to the same button". When in the map config, click the [+] next to Rule. pull out the stylus, click the windows button, go to your camera, and stick the stylus back in. Below "Rule name" the window should say "IACSP20_Main" without the quotes. Choose "Direct key mapping", then select key "13 Enter" for the key. Finally send the key to the operating system.
What this does is: while you're in the camera window and push the PTT key, that key is pushing the enter key. It acts the same as the onscreen shutter button, as in, you have to hold the button. BUT, its a lot easier to find and easier to hold the phone when pushing the button. Good luck with your mapping.

i had it mapped to the ptt the same way on nrg cht 4/16. i didnt even have to hold the button in fact, i just pressed it and it would take a picture. now the ptt button wont take a picture at all for me.
just go to the settings and click on advanced and see if touch focus is actually on, because if its turned off then it would just focus but not take a picture.
and that solution of yours to map it to the PTT button doesnt work for everyone (like me) because some of us dont got that button, but reguardless if it works for you then thats good too
Google Rhodium keyboard controller or look for it here at xda and even in this forum. BEST software. You can map ANY button to ANY key while still maintaining the keys natural function like pressing home goes to home, and holding hole for 2 seconds opens camera, and holding vol up or down can be enter which, in camera mode, takes a picture .

the touch focus has no effect for me. regardless whether its on or off, my ptt button wont take a pic. im gonna mess around with the rhod kb controller a bit, maybe i did something wrong there. if not, im gonna have to mess about in the registry and see what can be done there.
Edit: I fixed it. It wasnt something I did wrong w/ rhod kb controller. Went into hklm/software/htc/camera and its subfolders and changed 5 or 6 things in there, some to fix the prob and some were just changed to suit my preferences. I gotta go to work shortly, but at about 2:30 this morning I'll be able to write down all the registry changes I made and post them in this thread. Now when I press the ptt within camera, it autofocuses and then takes the pic without having to hold the button, which is nice I have CleanRam mapped to ptt long press.
well i had it working perfect yesterday when i posted, but then i booted into android for a few hours while at work, and when i went back to windows, the camera went back to doing the stupid focus and then no picture crap again. so today i went back thru everything i had messed with and tried every combination of settings i could think of, and couldnt get it to work right again.
Do you use the Rhodium Keyboard Controller to remap your hardware buttons? If so, I can give you how I setup my buttons to take pictures and such?
Yeah thats what I used with the 4/16 cht nrg rom, when mapped to open program windows/start menu/multimedia/camera.ink by single press, it would open the camera and if I pressed it again, it would take a photo. I am still using the rhodium keyboard controller, tried setting double tap to 13 and that didnt take a pic, tried pointing it at windows/camera.exe and that didnt work, thats when i went into the registry. between the keyboard controller and registry editng, i had it opening the camera and taking photos both with single press of the ptt button. i then booted android later that day cause its easier for texting while im at work. later back to windows, and the ptt would open camera but not shoot. i dont understand how changes to the registry could work to make it work like that but not survive a reset? i went back iand messed around in the registry tryin different combinations of stuff, and couldnt get the ptt to snap a shot again. possibly theres something different in camera.exe from rom to rom?
Just make one of your hardware buttons the enter button. Enter focuses and takes the picture. I make my volume keys both the enter button. Also good when using them in total commander too .
i had made my ptt = enter upon double tap and it wouldnt work, neither would the hw qwerty button. i know what ur talking about, i have always set my ptt to take pictures, even on my original tilt, usually open program - camera.ink will open camera and also take pic, but for me neither enter nor open program will work for me. its gotta be either a reg entry that i just didnt get right, or the actual camera.exe is different from build to build, which i find believable because i remember switching albums on my original tilt and to do it i would also hv to switch camera.exe's also. which reminds me, is it me or does the tp2's photo album absolutely suck? on my tilt, i could zoom down way closer, and the album was gesture driven. draw a circle w/ur finger one way would zoom in, other way zoom out, etc. love the phone, hate the picture album
Ah weird... enter should work :/...
Yeah... what happened to the gesture thing? Guess they want to "try" and make the pointless zoombar serve some sort of function even though I never use it.
I use S2V and map the dble tap send key as up, and dble tap end key as down. I've always like S2V but just wish A_C would update it.

I used to do this when the pro 2 first came out and this always worked but for the last 4 months this has stoped working and it sucks cause i loved having this option. I have tried asking for help from NRG's irc chat room and they banned me for asking lol, i even tried asking in his thread several times and ppl tell me it works fine for them, but it just dont work for me. it always worked before but i flashed to a new NRG rom update and it just stopped working, cant remember when it worked last, but i do miss it!!! This option works fine on ALL other roms but NRG's

I used to be able to pick any hardware button to make this work, i use the vol up key myself!!
Thanks zyphuris55!
enter key doesn't work for me either.
A plausible reason for the "Enter" workaround working for some people could be the use of different camera drivers.
With the HD2, the early camera drivers allowed a photo light (using the LEDs) to be used when taking a picture in the dark. However, the recent camera drivers no longer allow photo lights, and the user is dependent on a simple flash upon taking a photo.
I know that NRG and other chefs use different camera drivers (they sometimes post it in their changelogs), so this could be why some are able to use "Enter" to take photos while others can't.
If it is indeed driver-related, you can't do anything about it, as these drivers are cooked into the ROMs (cabs and reg tweaks have no effects).
P.S. At least the TP2 has a lot of buttons that can be remapped! The HD2 can only have the Send (Hold) function be remapped!

Any ideas on how to get the light button working on a jas-jar. Mine has not been working since the start and I've tried everything. The button Im talking about is the first from the right close to the infrared port on the outside of the device. It is supposed to turn on the flashlight but when I press it nothing happens and it doesnt even show up in the buttons applet in WM5.
Actually that button doesn't turn on the flashlight, though some here have tried to come up with a hack so that it would. I don't know if they were ever successful with that.
That button turns on the screen backlight when it has timed out but your device is still turned on. It's not the most useful button, which is why folks were trying to come up with a hack to make it more useful, for instance to turn on the flashlight like you wanted to.
Maybe if someone has had success, they will chime in here.
Change the button
Attached is a cab file allowing you to make use out of the light button to anything else
When yuo say anything else, does that include controlling the flashlight? Either way, thanks for the file.
Would be nice if one could assign it to turn on the keyboard backlight.
There is no option to adjust the sensitivite of the light sensor for the keyboard, and i think that it kicks in way to late.
Find my self holding the finger over the sensor and hitting a button to make it light up.
Any one aware og a possible Reg Hack to make this option appear in the Assing Button list?

why dont u just change the option in the settings\buttons\backlight and take the tick off the box, and it works like a charm. everytime u press a key it lights up, sorted, and it doesnt affect the battery at all really
@Elmo
Well i didn't use that choise because i don't have any car charger yet. (Waiting for the Brodit kit)

Yes, it's my CAB file I posted a little while back that adds a registry entry so that you see it listed as "Button 5" in the Buttons setting applet.

Isn'it available for the Wizard too ? ...
I wrote a very simple script that turn on the camera and press the flash button.
I use the flash key and ms voice command to start it
you need to have MortScript installed. (include with this package)
A very simple question from a new owner -- where are the buttons defined that are assigned in Settings - Buttons? I don't see them labeled as "Button 1", etc in the User Manual.

On your HTC Universal, go to:
Start>Settings>Buttons
From there you can change the assignments of the buttons.
Ok. I have found the 2 keyboard keys that are buttons 1 and 2, and the 2 external buttons that are buttons 3 and 4.
I must say that button 1 is not very useful for voice command, when the device is closed. I guess I could assign it to button 4 or button 5 with the registry hack.
On the supplied "headset", there is a microphone with a button on it.
- What does that button do?
- Is it possible to use it for Voice Command?
(I guess for that to happen, it first needs to be recognised as an assignable button in WM5).
The backlight button cab file is working. Now I can reassign that useless button becomes the OK button. Very useful when use it in the tablet mode. But I need two more buttons to use for the softkey. I have use the record button for the left softkey and have no more button for the right softkey. Any suggestion?
One more thing, the script for enabling the flash light does not work. It turns on the camera, but the flash light remains off.
Hey everyone, I just got my 8525 and have been playing around with a few customizations. One of the things that bugs me about the original button layout is that the placement of the camera button makes it nearly impossible to use the camera with only one hand (at least I always feel like I'm going to drop the phone).
So, I got the PTT patch (thanks Slueth255!) to map the camera to that button. However, it looks like any function can only be mapped to one button at a time, so the original button has to be remapped first. It works great in portrait mode, but in landscape, either the button is on the bottom of the phone or the display is upside-down. Is there a way to map two buttons to the same function? Or better yet, is there any way to rotate the camera display? Has anyone else found a better way to use the camera one-handed?
Thanks,
Sar

Thanks for the tip about using the center D-pad button to take a picture, it makes things a little easier. I realized after trying to take a pic that switching the camera function to the PTT button won't work. It will activate the camera program as expected, but once in camera mode, you still have to push the original camera button (or D-pad) to take a shot.
After some more playing around, I found that you can take a pic with the scroll wheel button as well, which makes it easier, but not perfect. You still have to reach for the camera button to switch to camera mode and the scroll wheel is not good for taking pictures as it will change camera modes with a scroll if your press is not dead center.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to take out the phone and snap a quick spur-of-the-moment picture without too much fumbling around. Typically, I hold the phone in my left hand with my index finger near the power button and thumb near the PTT button. Or, in landscape mode, index finger on the PTT button and thumb about halfway between camera and comm button (with the D-pad resting in the palm). Moving all the camera button functionality to the PTT button would really be great. Getting the camera program to run inverted would also be nice, but I could probably learn to live with having all my pics turn out upside-down.

Yes, I see. I just tried it left handed and it is more difficult due to button positions. I also agree about scroll wheel push you have to be spot on with press else you end scrolling to another function.
Hopefully others will have some more tips/tricks.
For some reason if i want to push the camera button to activate the camera,it wont allow it.Well it does nothing. But if i goto the camera application itself, then it works when pressed. The keys are not locked on the side either.Anyone have anysuggestions or advice on what the problem maybe?

make sure you push hard on the camera button, there is two steps to it, make sure you press it all the way through
Yeah bit tricky and supprising, i thought i'll found 2 steps button for camera only on my digicam, but my athena have it to... great isn't it?
I have to push my camera button really firmly before it opens the camera.
You may have already done this but check the mapping for the button. Voice Command likes to take this button for itself.
got it!
Hey thanks! That worked!I thought that it was just me.The buttons were mapped correctly(meaning that they were not re-mapped)A firm press brings the camera up after a 1 second delay. The only thing that i was wondering, why was there no ms voice command included?I have the application(Since i kept all the applications that i had when i owned the JJ).Like i said, thank you for the quick response time and help!
Hi, I did a lot of searching for this but I can't come up with any solution (which is odd as it strikes me to be a problem).
I bought voice commander yesterday as I'm on the road for my company a lot and all that works perfectly. So then I tried assigning it to a hardkey (is that the right word?) on my Touch HD (uk).
Apparently some incompetent interaction designer must have thought that it was a brilliant idea to only have one hardkey and bind that hard to making calls as well. Result? Me accidentally dialling 6 people out of the 7 times that I tried using it. I can only imagine what a horror it must be when I'm driving.
So here is the question; how do I add hardkeys to the buttons menu in the settings so I can assign stuff to those buttons? Any button really, preferably the 'hang up' button. Currently there is only 'button 1' but there must be a way of tapping into those other buttons.
I'm not shy of reg editing (it has to be a key or something in the registry) or anything like that but I can't seem to find a regeditor.
I'd try the HTC helpdesk but they don't know anything really beyond the standard questions (at least not the last 3 times I tried).

Yes, it does takes some resources, but it gives a lot more functionality and improves the phone greatly.
For example,
You could ingle press to forward/repeat songs or change channel in FM radio, and long press to change volume.
You could single press the green button to either do nothing or start your VOIP phone if you have one, and double press to run the regular phone. (this prevents accidental dialing the last number)
Double press the back key to close active application
etc.
Hmmm, it's a last option solution for me. It's more a matter of principle. When I buy a phone like this, I expect to be able to have access to all buttons, not just one. It's a bit stupid that I need to run an extra app to actually use my phone properly. I mean; didn't anyone at htc think that just having one button is stupid and then assigning it to the dial button is just braindead thinking?
Right, gave that program a go but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

That's because you're not familiar with how to use it yet, I think.
This is how yo use that software:
Say, you want to reassign the up volume button. First you might note that the initial defaultsetting is "do not touch button".
press and HOLD the up volume entry until
the screen for altering the setting appear.
Once that happens, the rest should be intuitively enough.
Remember later to save and exit. No need to soft reset.
Hey guys, so I have been using my tp2 for a couple months now and I have noticed some things that could have some kind of App development. I have no idea where to begin with Developing apps and all of that tech stuff, so I'll put my ideas out there. If these things do exist please inform me, thanks
1. Customization of the Mute Key on the back - Personally I have never once touched this button because I dont use the speakerphone that often. My dad on the other hand uses his speakerphone many times throughout the day, but he has still no need for the mute button. Which leads to my ideas of being able to customize it for a push and/or push and hold functionality.
2. A keyboard that is just a D-pad. I tried the "G-pad" app which is supposed to enable to g-sensor to be used for scrolling, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use it properly. I also tried the ZoomAdds scrolling with the Zoom Bar, this is alright, however it doesn't always work for some reason.
3. Im not sure if this one is an app, or just a functionality of the Energy Rom, but i downloaded some apps from the Marketplace and the majority of them dont sort out into the folders in the Energy rom (such as Games, Tools, etc.) Is there an app for this or you can control it from the the settings in the energy rom or something? I didnt install the energy rom on my phone, which is why I know like nothing about it.

You can also use rory's suggestion for problem #2 if you want...just map a directional arrow to a long-press of each of the 4 front hardware buttons, in whichever arrangement feels best for you (up/left/right/down, left/up/down/right, whatever)

Definitely. I also have mapped my 4 front buttons to various things...
double press back arrow = CleanRAM
triple press back arrow = Resco File Explorer
long press back arrow = YoMoMedia
triple press home = rotate screen
long press home = iGO8
Im just curious, what is the timeout on the double and triple presses? Like what if i was in a list and i had down set to a single press of the home key, and i pressed it a couple times, and I activated the double press function?
