GDocs problem with Froyo? - Nexus One General

I don't use GDocs all that often, but occasionally I'll compose something on the Nexus One, sync it to Google Docs, and polish it via my laptop. I tried something like that last night after upgrading to Froyo, but the document doesn't appear in my list of Google Documents. I picked "Upload" from the long-press menu on the document name, then picked "Sync" from the main menu for good measure. The bar beside the document name is blue, but the document just isn't there in my laptop's view of my Google Docs. The last time I tried it was a couple of weeks ago, and it worked fine then. I don't know if it's Froyo, some change in Google Docs, or something else. Anybody else having trouble (or finding that it still works fine)?

What's eating my Mobile Favorites during sync?!

I've got a new Sprint Mogul that I'm syncing with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have "Mobile Favorites" checked under Change Content Sync Settings. During synchronization, sometimes all or nearly all of my favorites from the Mogul disappear on both the desktop and the handheld.
This occurs often enough that I regularly copy a backup of the folder on both sides since I have to restore it a couple of times per day. It's pretty annoying, since I really do want to be able to edit, add, and maintain mobile favorites on my desktop.
The behavior is thus far unpredictable and inconsistent. Often I can go several syncs without it happening, then favorites suddenly vaporize. One consistent feature is that only favorites in folders disappear - the 2 that are in the root favorites folder never do. Often, the most recently-used, added, or edited on the Mogul will survive, while the rest disappear. Typically, favorites are safe until I use PIE then are liable to vanish, but sometimes I can use it without this happening.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on and how I can stop it?
Same thing happening on my Touch
Found this thread through a Google search. Sorry to revive it but haven't found any explanation for this on the web.
My Mobile Favorites just wink out of existence right before my eyes ... really, I'm staring at my Touch, with ActiveSync cabled in and doing it's thing ... and ... blink ... blink ... blink ... every few seconds another one just disappears.
Very strange.
I'm having the same issue. Has anybody found an explanation or solution?
Favorites disappear - MS aware of bug
I read about this here: https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3808030&SiteID=65
Sounds like a bug that has yet to be resolved.
Oh yeah, it is also an issue with XP SP3 and ActiveSync 4.5.
Here's my solution...
www.dashwire.com....
I let it do the syncing for me as far as Contacts, Texts, Speed Dials, Web Favorites, etc. The only things I really use ActiveSync for now are flashing and transferring large files to my SD card (music, ringers etc.)
Once you get an account on the site and D/L the mobile client to the device, run it and let it sync the first time to save everything (Contacts, texts, Speed Dials, Pictures, etc. If you have alot of pictures it may take a while or even freeze on you, so it might be a good idea to move the pics to your SD card before the the first sync.
After that go into your ActiveSync settings and set it to only sync files and media (unless you use Outlook at home, then set it for that too). Once done, any time you sync that way, it won't touch the Web Favorites and you don't have to worry about losing them. Another good thing is everytime you soft reset your device, Dashwire does a sync just to make sure nothing is lost. It will also put everything back if you flash a new ROM too. (Of course you have to re-install the mobile client and sign in first, but you don't have to worry about losing your Favorites in the process.)

Sync Documents / Tasks...

I'm strongly leaning towards Android and the Hero specifically to replace my WM phone. I rely heavily on syncing contacts, calendar, tasks and documents. Active Sync works fine on WM, however I've pretty much sorted that by switching to google mail, I can sync my contacts and calendar. I've read tons of posts on this, but can't seem to find specifically about documents.
For example, if I modify an Excel file on my PC, it then syncs with my WM phone, and I always have an updated document on phone & pc.
Is this possible with the Hero?
Also, what about task syncing? I understand that google tasks don't sync, is there another way?
As far as I can tell there is nothing avaliable that is anything like the Windows Mobile Office Suite.
However.
I installed "GDocs" from the market place which gives me access to all of my Google documents. You can View Excel type files but you can edit Word type files. You can even create Word type documents straight from your phone.
I've been using it on & off since I got the phone & the app is pretty solid
Thanks, I guess I'll try out Google docs. I definitely like the idea of cloud based rather than Active Sync from PC to phone to laptop. Active Sync has been very flakey lately, losing connection, I've lost data a bunch of times and I'm just sick of WM and AS.

[Q] Vibrant erases Google Calendar entries. Help?

I need some help. I've had my phone for almost 2 weeks. Beginning a couple of days ago, my phone is erasing google calendar entries.
What's particularly strange is that when I enter google calendar entries into the phone, the entries sync with my google account. The entries remain visible on the google account, but are not visible on the phone.
If I enter the calendar entry on google directly, it will appear and remain on my phone. So the problem is strictly with google calendar entries entered on the phone. They sync and then disappear.
I'm having this problem as well, but only for one of my secondary google calendars. Very frustrating. I'm thinking that using stock calendar might fix this...
FYI I just took a look at mine... calendar entries created on the web but edited on the phone do not seem to be affected. Can you confirm?
I too am having a similar problem (I use Google Calendar on the desktop, and my Vibrant calendar is synced to Gcal as well). I haven't had time to test out all the permutations, but the basic issue is: when I "Edit" a repeating event on the phone, and then hit "Save," the event disappears instantly (from both the phone's calendar and desktop Gcal). It doesn't matter whether I actually made any changes while editing -- it's just the Edit and Save that does it.
Once or twice, the event has magically reappeared a little while later -- but generally it does not.
I have also had the opposite thing happen: I've edited a repeating event and ended up with a DUPLICATE event (also repeating) on the calendar -- same event, same details, just one day earlier than the "real" event (which is still there).
Don't know if this detail is significant (again, I haven't tested rigorously), but it has been YEARLY repeating events (birthdays) which have been duplicated, and MONTHLY repeating events which have been deleted.
The only "solution" I've arrived at is to only edit events (or at least repeating ones) from the desktop, and not the phone (...and hope this bug is fixed in an update?).
(By the way, all my events have been created on desktop Gcal directly; so I can't speak to how creating events on the phone may play into this.)
One thing that's actually worked for me is to rename the calendar my phone kicks out. I've found that when I do that, things magically reappear. Currently, I'm on #4.

Click to collapse
Interesting, thanks -- can you elaborate? (I went to Calendar settings, but can't figure out how to change names -- there's just "My Calendar," which I don't use, and the Google calendar.)
Yup -- I actually changed the name in the desktop/web client, not on the phone. It took a bit for the updated calendar to push to the phone, but once it did, everything was peachy again.

tried this and no fixy...
Does anyone else have the same problem I'm having? You "Edit" a repeating Gcal event on the phone, and it just disappears (from both phone and desktop) when you hit Save? (Even if you made no changes?)
I'm sure everyone's probably aware of this, but you never know (it took me a week to figure it out)...
The Samsung Calendar defaults to "My Calendar" and not your Google Calendar like every other Android phone, so that any new event created is created in "My Calendar" unless you select to create the event in your Google calendar every single time you make a new event. This can not be changed and is the case EVEN IF THE CALENDAR IS SET TO NOT DISPLAY "MY CALENDAR." (which is, possibly, the worst case of software design I can think of in recent memory).
There is an easy fix for this: use pretty much any other of the many free or inexpensive calendar apps. The Samsung Calendar blows. And this is coming froma guy that generally likes most of the other Touchwiz stuff.
I assume other calendar apps will sync easy with Gcal (it's just ActiveSync, right)? Any in particular you recommend? Thanx
I've been using Gemini Calendar for a few weeks. Takes some getting used to and it kinda ugly, but it's got plenty of customizations.

Calendar Problem

Hello, i have the 2.2.2 version and i have a problem with the layout of the default google calendar app.
I used the Hi Suite to import appointments and such from MS Outlook and it worked fine. The problem is this: In the 7day view for instance, if a day has up to 3 items (anniversaries or birthdays etc, without time set) they show ok in a small font size on the top of the column, BUT if there are more than 3 items, the little blue item boxes get even smaller and lose the text. So i don't know what notifications i have for a day with 4 of them, just that i have 4 notifications.
I couldn't find any settings entry to change the view a bit, anyone has come across this problem? Also i tried another calendar app (Jorte) and some widgets for the home screen (Cal, Smooth Calendar) but the default app is better looking imo and a solution with that would be ideal.
PS: if you notice in the screens, even if one day of the week loses the text, it "destroys" the other days too. so i'm guessing it is a software bug and not a feature that can be changed
PS2: if it is indeed a problem without a simple solution that i just don't know of, can anyone having the 2.3 version try and replicate it there in case they fixed it?
thanks, d.
I don't have a solution, but got the same thing with 2.2.1

Google Calendar access

Many people may know this already but I was surprised to find that the NST/G and Opera Mobile are totally capable of accessing the online Google Calendar "app". Some of the interface elements are a bit small, but you can always resort to a stylus as a last resort. Here's how I got there:
1. Use another mobile device browser to access the Google home page. You need to be signed in on the browser to the account for the calendar you want. Access the calendar "app" from the 3x3 square of dots on the right portion of the screen near the top.
2. From your browsers options choose "share" and then email the calendar URL to yourself (your NST/G).
3. Make sure you are signed in to the same account on the Opera Mobile browser.
4. Pick up the email on your NST/G and tap on the link. Opera Mobile opens and you eventually get to the Calendar page. It defaults to "day" view (pretty uninspiring), but you can change to "month" and any entries for the current date will be listed below the calendar display. You can also make new entries or delete entries. And, of course, you can add the page to your speed dial or make a bookmark.
Clearly this is not the same or as functional as having a Calendar app, but it does work without GApps (or with) and it does allow interaction with your calendar from the NST/G.
For a lark I tried a bunch of the other online "apps" in the same fashion. Contacts crashed out of Opera immediately, Google Drive spun and spun but never showed any contents, Books looked promising at first try but refused to actually display the contents of a book, Google News managed to sort of display headline news--best in landscape--but could not access other categories and in general performed poorly. So the Calendar behavior is exceptional and fortuitous for those who need to know what they are doing when and either don't want GApps or can't seem to get a Calendar app working reliably with GApps.
