Free activation only online for EPRP? - EVO 4G General

I am about to sign up for sprint with three phones (one evo), but I need to sign up now. If I activate two phones online via sprint (to start EPRP plan/free activation), can I just go into a best buy/radioshack on June 4th and get free activation there also?
I really appreciate any answers. Thanks!

I doubt it.
but if it's the only way you can get an Evo, don't let
that stop you!

[Guide] Buying your Nexus One ~Family plan too!~

So... Everyone is still getting screwed by Google 'eh? How about that $279 that basically no one can get because we are all on family plans... Well THERE IS A WAY AROUND THIS! >.> <.< Quick before Google catches on, buy yours.
Now that the fun is out of the way =) I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, I looked but... We all know how that goes. Disclaimer: This is based 100% off personal experience, I tried everywhere to find a better way to buy it, and trial and error got ME here. So don't steal my stuff eh? ~Note: If you can link me to somewhere that already has this I'll give them credit, but I really figured this out myself.~
Tested on 2 upgrades on my personal family plans.
So we know that you have to be on the "Even more" type plans to get a discount, or even be eligible for one right? (Well now you do) So what to do for those of us who have been with T-mobile for years, and are eligible for an upgrade, but we have a different type of plan (this workaround is ONLY tested with family plan).
So Here is what you do:
~Give T-Mobile a call and ask them to change your plan to an Even more (any one of the eligible ones) at the END of your billing period.
-Basically what this does is put an "activator" (their word not mine) on your plan which will switch your plan to the even more when your account month is up, this doesn't change any info yet!
~Log onto Google, and buy your phone! As soon as they put the activator on in their system Google's system registers it and you become eligible for the upgrade discount. ($279)
~Give T-Mobile another call before the end of your billing period, so basically before the activator changes your plan, and cancel that activator. Everything on your current plan will remain intact, and Google doesn't charge a cancellation fee. (Havent yet =>) I recommend doing this after you've received your phone or when you can see it is shipping. Just in case.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, but this worked for me! 2x! Woot loop hole! Besides it was time I gave back to XDA. If you wanna donate.. I haven't figured out how that works so what ever...
1/26:Still no fee so... Yep!
Just to be safe I want to make it clear this is a short term result so far and you should always talk to T-Mobile before changing anything!
Google hasn't charged the ERF yet... How can you be sure that they won't? They have 120 days to do it...

This would have been good info to have prior to my struggles with the process. In the end, though, I am glad to have bought it unsubsidized. Good catch though.
I think it's still too early to speculate that you won't get charged an ETF. There is still plenty of time for google/tmobile to charge you the fee and/or locate and charge people using this loophole. All they would have to do is check the # that was upgraded and check with tmobile at the end of a billing cycle and see if it is still on the supported plan.

So you're making what appear to be definitive claims, without actually knowing if you're right in the long term. You're only right "so far"? Isn't it irresponsible of you, considering that people may rely on your conjecture and end up being charged $350 as a result?
2 Reps said it shouldn't void the terms of sale... so if I get screwed ill let you guys know but if it doesn't work I would have at least liked to know about it... call them yourself to verify!
I'd probably suggest putting a disclaimer on your first post saying that only so far you haven't been charged, and it is possible you may be in the future. To prevent other people from just blindly following your suggestions.
Haha its in 2nd post
I don't want to start a new thread for something this remedial, and the answer might be good to add to the guide...
The FedEx overnight shipping is awesome! Do you have to be home for delivery though? ie, do you have to sign for it, or is it such that you can leave a note asking that they leave it in your mailbox type thing? My purchase date will be affected by this, and I am sure others will be as well.
I honestly don't know might ask I know mine had to be signed for

I had a feeling it would be that way... wonder if I should set the shipping address as my work then? That would guarantee it would get signed for, they also get delivered to around 11AM instead of 4PM(FedEx always comes around 4PM to my place)... and seeing that I work 5 days a week, and live 2 blocks away, doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Yeah, you can do that... just make sure you call your credit card company and let them know what you're doing and to expect a charge for the amount you get quoted by Google as soon as you place your order. The credit card company can hold up the transaction for an extra day or two to investigate since the shipping address and billing address will be different. It happened to me (had the phone shipped to my sister's place in Chicago where I was visiting when the N1 was released).

Best Buy Mobile employees

how can we get this on our free and clear 3000 plans?!?
my rep told me they could add it but of course he was wrong. now im sitting here with 450$ pda.
i tried over the phone and online. both said no. sooo my rep is going to put in a request with demo team but that will take a week or two.
anyways ides?
Sadly you can't. If anything you could possibly go into something like an everything data plus plan or something along that line, but since the phone is plan specific it will require that you do switch. The old free and clear plans are pointless on this phone or with any new smart phone for that matter.
Av, from what I understand, nobody will be allowed to add it to their plans until late July, and if you try to circumvent it and slip it through? Instant termination or either job or privileges. They're actively searching employee and indirect accounts for these.
Which one exactly is it, the $20 one?
My rep got it on for me, but I have the $0 plan.
As far as the phone goes, you should be good as long
as it wasn't an employee purchase or the Sprint account
under your name (social).
yeh its the 20$ one.
well anyways if an employee gets it on theres post it up.
the demo team will be in (my) store monday. hoping to god they will hook me up

I'm a Sprint Rep for Best Buy and I have been led to believe that 3rd party or Concession plans will be allowed to swap esn's to the Evo as long as they purchase the device outright. If you activate it on a consumer plan and then ask your Rep to submit a request to have it converted to an employee plan, it will get denied.
If you paid full retail price for your Evo, please politely as your Rep to try again and explain exactly how you acquired the Evo. I can't make any garuntees that it will be swapped, but it's worth a shot.
Worst case scenario, you wait until Sprint gives the green light on Evo's for employees sometime in July. Either way, I can assure you that this device is worth the wait.

To my knowledge, and from the memos we've received at Radioshack, NO ONE is allowed an Evo on an employee plan, regardless of method. That means RS, BB, even Sprint employees themselves are not allowed the phone. I assume the same reason why they never let employees have a phone involving a major launch: the more employees that buy, the fewer consumers can buy.
I'm sure it'll make a great alarm clock until Sprint releases the block on the device in July.
I'm currently using the Evo on a Advantage Club plan, but I have to pay the 10$ add on. So all in all its 30$ a month.
Well I'm on the $20 3000 free n clear plan. I called in on Friday night to try and activate my evo on my account, it was 5 minutes till 12:00am central time and the customer care rep that was helping me couldn't get my evo active. He then requested assistance from his manager do add the $10 premium data soc code on my account. I am now tremendously happy with my evo, it is an amazing device!
FYI just as a regular customer the premium data does have an additional cost of $10 but it is well worth it. As for the hotspot app works fine for now with out the $29.99 soc code add on. I went on my account online to see if I could view what the premium data soc code was but no luck, it comes up as premium data. Hope this helps someone else.

Whoever the employee is that's attached to your plan? Expect them to get fired VERY soon. They're actively scanning all employee and Advantage plans for EVO ESNs.
hello guys, i'm also part of the free and clear 3000 plan and had a couple questions. My first question is does the $20 plan include roaming? I have been paying the $5 fee for the past 2 years and was curious if i actually need to pay it? Or is it already included and I'm just paying extra.
My second question is has anyone figured out an easier method of getting our accounts switched over to the newest plan for the HTC EVO 4G. Any way we can do an ESN Swap on the Sprint website?
I do not work at radioShack anymore and was wondering if anyone has asked for authentication to make sure they still work there.
Is it as easy as calling up and talking to the right person? They wouldnt transfer me to another line that would start questioning me about whether i still work there or not, would they?

Adding additional line/phone to account RE: upfront payment

Hey all,
I just have a question for the people knowledgeable with the inner-workings of account structure with Sprint.
I need to add an additional line to my current plan and was going to pick up an EVO for myself and give my current Hero to my brother (whom I'm opening the additional line for). I was just on Sprints website, doing all the work, and toward the end, it said that all charges will be placed on my regular monthly bill. Seems logical, sure.
My question is, is this a policy explicitly carried out online, or would I be able to walk into a Best Buy or Sprint store today and have the same thing occur? If that is the case, I'll go set this all up today via a store front if I'd be able to apply all charges to my bill.
Thanks for any input
Sometimes sure. But, other times you may not get the same deal in the store than you would online.
Couple points for your sake:
1. New phone from Sprint, needs to stay on the line it was purchased on, for 30 days minimum to get the $100 rebate.
2. You can pay $199 oop at Best Buy/The Shack and switch it after the transaction is complete.
3. Not sure how the $10 EVO charge is applied. Would it be to the account or the number?
Just some thoughts. Have fun with the EVO!
Well thank you all for taking the time to lend advice. I ended up going to Best Buy to talk to someone about what I need to do.
First off, the guy said they didn't have anymore EVOs, nor did any retailer in the vicinity. Then he told me that I would have to upgrade to a family plan to add this other line for my brother. I'd be going from $69.99 to $129.99 give or take $20. I totally forgot to think about that aspect. I called my brother to tell him no dice unless he's willing to fork over at least something to help offset the additional cost -- he said thanks, but no thanks.
So, I get home and get curious -- log back onto Sprint.com to see how much it would be for me to just buy the phone outright. I went ahead and just put it on my tab. I'm a nut for gadgets, and have been more than financially frugal for well over a year, so I figured I'd buy myself something for once, lol.
Anyhow, thanks again!

I asked the same question to sprint and basically was told the same. Except the $10 goes with the phone and not the line of service. So if you buy from the shack or BB Mobile you can change the phone to a different line and the $10 will follow the phone. However like stated before if you wait for the rebate then you will have to wait for 30 days to switch the phone to a different line.

No Activation

I bought my Xoom on VerizonWireless.com, with a month-to-month plan which I intended to cancel, and just use wifi (or tether). When I turned it on for the first time, it tried to activate, and it failed (I received instructions with it on how to activate but I haven't done them yet). After failing it told me to go somewhere in Settings to activate as well.
Since then it has asked me only one time upon turning on if I wanted to activate, and I said no. If I never activate my line will I ever be billed for it? So far it's not on my statement at all. My friend did something similar with a phone where he bought a phone for contract price by adding an additional line, but never activated it and they eventually just took the unactivated line off his plan and he kept the phone lol
Just wondering if anyone else was also in this situation or if they've contacted Verizon for it yet, thanks!

You should get billed because you basically signed a month to month contract. If you plan to use the data, you should call them for help. If not, you should call them and tell them to refund your money because verizon service is not required anymore (they changed this requirement last minute).
You have to cancel this month-to-month service within 72 hours or they charge you the $35 activation fee and the amount of $ for your first month of service. If you cancel in the first 3 day window, you will get the $35 activation taken off your bill, and be charged once for whatever few mb of data you used up to this point.
Im sorry would you mind sharing, on how to activate the device. I have been trying to activate this thing for a while now but it keeps saying Activation failed. Am i supposed to do something in the process of activation??

You can skip/cancel activation completely as it is not required. You should be able to use your personal WiFi for internet. If you want to use Verizon data, you should contact them for assistance as I did not sign up for Verizon service so I do not know why it would be failing activation.

You are not required to do anything other than click activate in the wireless settings under mobile network, if it will not activate by doing that then you must take it into verizon because the problem is on their end. This process however should not take long.
I would recommend going to a larger verizon store rather than smaller local stores. The Xoom is still new and a few stores I went into trying to find out some information had not even seen one yet.
EDIT: since you bought it at best buy and had not activated it there, in order to activate the device you must go into verizon. The reason being that they require a credit check (even on the month to month plan) and if it returns with bad credit, you will be required to put a deposit of up to 400$ (again even without signing the 2 year contract) but with that said activation will be quick and your first month bill will get about 65$ added to it in activation fees and sur harges.

You're Welcome, and I agree completely with you. The ability to activate right off your ipad is a great feature that avoids extra charges.
Even without signing a 2 year contract and going with the month to month plan, you won't be charged for canceling (You will be paying the month after, not pre-paid, so you don't pay the month ahead and get allotted data, you pay after, and if you go over your allotted data, you get charged) but you will have a 15$ re-activation fee when you want to start back up.
Not quite desirable, I'm hoping verizon will be making a true pre-paid account for tablets soon (apparently they have it for smart phones)
Glad to have helped, I hope you get your Xoom activated before you leave!

[Q] Verizon concession line

Hello first thread here, love the forums it has helped me so much to learn about the phone world so thanks for that.
Hello I was able to set up myself with a Verizon concession line through working at BestBuy. I have the unlimited plan for about 30$ a mo.
I quit BestBuy about 6 months ago and so far I still get the discount, I do not plan trying to lose it anytime soon if I can hold onto it.
Now I've heard from my old coworkers that as long as you don't do a yearly upgrade they wont catch on and change it back seeing you're no longer employed.
Is there anyway around this to where I can upgrade my phone? I'm running a Dx which I love but Iv been dying for something new like the galaxy s II.
Concession lines never come up for upgrade as they are not contract plans. Your my verizon may say you have a pending upgrade but if yoy try to do it it will fail
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
stayin, VZW concession lines are eligible for upgrade every ten months, but you can only pick from the phones they offer you, which is usually three recent models.
Envain, this isn't true. If your rep finds out you are no longer employed, you will have you concession account converted to a consumer account. Also, if VZW provided you with the Droid X, they own that equipment, and could charge you for it once they discover you're not employed. Proceed at your own risk.
Droid x was purchased by me, i believe the rep i worked with just used my MEID or something to attach my phone with this new plan/account/whathaveyou.
Only way i can get service help is calling the Verizon Business number, if i provide them with a new MEID of a phone i buy out wright, if they allow this it should activate the new phone for my use right? I figured I would have to pay the full price for the phone i choose.
i currently work for BBY mobile how did you get the concession account? at store, over phone or through the rep? thanks
I have a similar concession account and to my knowledge as long as you're buying the phones outright, you're good to go. Just call your direct contact and they can activate the phone. With LTE phones is even easier as all you do is buy the new phone and put your existing SIM into that phone.
As far as upgrades, I don't think we can ever use them
There must be different types of accounts, mine never comes up for upgrade, nor do any of the indirect agents I know...

Yeah I don't think we can use it. That's why we pay $25 a month
Your former manager will likely do housekeeping at some point, even if it's not until budget time. That doesn't sound like a "concession line" though since you have to pay something for it. A real "concession line" may have different procedures. I believe you are talking about a "discount employee line". If so, I believe the system either catches up by itself, or the same will apply when your former manager does housekeeping.
your rep and your manager
It all depends on them and how often they check up on everything. At my store it would be cake because our Rep never checks in on anything. The only thing your manager can do is inform your Rep that you don't work there anymore. That is a concession line its just not the free one which is only for managers and you don't get an upgrade but they let you choose from.a list of devices which they will send you for free which you have to keep for ten months and then they are yours. Your only option here is buying a phone flat out or from a person and then doing your device swap online. And to answer the question about how to sign up for the plan you just email your Rep and she/he will email you with the forms to fill out. Be forewarned that if you are porting in you WILL lose service on your current phone. But I've known past employees that have had their concession lines for years without losing them.
Damn just wrote a novel sorry for the block of text but hope it helps.
does anyone know how to get the concession line started? I sent in the Sales Maker form to my Indirect Agent but it's been two months and I still work for the mobile department. can I use the employee verification form and snail mail it to the address instead?

You need to call your Verizon rep and have them forward that form immediately. Stay on him/her to get it done. It shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks AT THE MOST.
