Has anyone been able to pull the WiFi calling app out of the myTouch 4G ROM for use on the Vibrant? I really could use that functionality as I have poor coverage at my house. I searched around the forums and did not find anything promising. I am not sure if that app can even be ported but I know that T-Mobile plans to eventually make it available on other Android devices so I am hoping it is possible on the Vibrant.
I would love this as well. My new house doesn't have the best coverage sadly.
Please keep any questions posted in the Q&A section. Thanks
There is already a thread for this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807199 and DJF8 is right this should either be in Q&A or themes and Apps. But to answer your question and kill this thread yes it has been pulled, no it does not work as of yet. I don't think it's working on the MT4G yet either much like MediaHub when we first got our phones it's there just not ready on T-Mo's end.
Just a thought that I think might improve developer collaboration and make it easier to have discussions about actual development tasks versus ROM packaging.
We have several talented individuals on here that build ROMs, they combine things that other people do, and add their own things and release a package of all of that. I think a lot of developers have no interest in releasing a ROM. If I come up with a fix for something, or a guide for how to do something else, there's no reason for me to build a whole ROM for that, I'd just release that on its own, and let others put that in their ROMs or just let individual users combine their own tricks together to make their phone act the way they want (in a way creating their own custom ROMs).
The development forum is inundated with ROM ("package") releases and very little attention is given to the actual things going into those.
Just to pick a random example, the latest VIPER rom includes a "GPS Fix". That fix basically replaces your gps.conf with one that changes the network time server that your GPS uses for syncing time for location calculations, and it enables use of Google's AGPS functionality from supl.google.com. This can be described as a GPS fix of sorts, but it definitely does not fix the GPS problem I (and many others) had with the GPS not finding any towers at all, ever under DK17. Nor do the release notes describe what the GPS fix is or what it should fix... This isn't a knock against BThomas, this kind of thing is appropriate for a ROM, it's advertisement of high level features of his ROM to his potential end users. Most of them don't care what exactly that GPS fix does, they've decided that his ROM is good for them, and they like the stuff he includes in general.
In fact, a lot of people are interested in that. I'm not--and I imagine many other would-be developers on this forum are also not interested in that. What I'd like is a forum where we can talk about actual development tasks and bugs, and resolutions to those bugs... only that, and nothing more. I.e. we don't care about a ROM release, we care about a particular bug fix, that may or may not be included in someone's prepackaged ROM.
Anyway, I'm new around these parts, and maybe I'm the only one that thinks this way--if so, I'll burrow my head back in the sand and mind my own business. I just think we'd get more actual development if we had a forum that was more about solving individual issues than competing prepackaged ROMs.
Edit: also wanted to add, I don't mean to pick on you, or anyone else in particular, BThomas, I just needed an example--this isn't a rant against ROM making, it's just a request for a place to collaborate on development, independent of final packaging... somewhere where developers who don't make ROMs, and developers who make different ROMs can collaborate on solutions to problems and new features and functionality together.
+1 to this..
Completely agree =)
Also agree.

I agree with this also. I am no developer but sometimes its hard to keep track with all the fixes,so having a central place to look will be easier to choose when looking for an appropiate rom to use.
Totally agree
SyndicateROM v1.0.2 + Xtreme kernel v1.2.0 + Emotionless beast final = Great functionality, Exceptional performance, and Sweet eye candy.
I'n not a dev in any way but I agree with this idea. The forums are so cluttered with roms, mods, and "fixes" that the actual development threads are tough to follow/find.

Searching is great if you're looking for the solution to YOUR problem. A Development forum would foster discussion to help with other problems.
Say I'm the Epic's greatest GPS expert. Why would I be searching for GPS when I know all I need about it? But if I'm browsing through the development forum and I see others discussing their GPS problems, then BAM. I offer my expertise and help out the community.
Note: I know jack squat about GPS Just an example.

Where would the ROM section be included?
100% agree!
Roms need their own sub-forum, especially for new releases. All I ever see on the first page of this development forum are Rom releases.

we are in desperate need of a Q&A section.. the general board is riddled with questions and then people dont get the answer they want so then they post on this forum... oddly enough all the various fixes and such that ive come up with ive posted in this forum.. somehow rom devs seem to have found it, as now quantum and acs both use the market fix

2.My phone needs fixes or I just figure out how to fix....
3.I need a tool to flash/quadrant/.......

Hello,
I was wondering whom do I have to talk to about maybe implementing some sort of category system for the EVO thread. I know there is the search bar to find stuff but sometimes I think it would be easier, at least in the development and themes sections to categorize everything for easier access and search.
Example for Development
All AOSP Roms in one Category, all Sense roms in another, Kernels, Developments for EVO, Root methods, etc...I think that people would not post in the wrong threads when it's so specifically depicted.
I am willing to head the project, but first of all is it even possible.

As everyone else has said, just edit the wiki.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:HTC_Supersonic.png
All registered users have the ability to contribute to the wiki, so take it upon yourself to organize the Roms section for the EVO.
You guys aren't getting what he (or she) is saying. It would be nice to have subsets under the "EVO 4g Android Development" subforum.
Personally I think changing to this would work:
EVO 4g General
EVO 4g Q&A
EVO 4g Accessories
EVO 4g Android Sense Development
EVO 4g AOSP Development
EVO 4g Themes and Apps
Really, themes are ROM based so that's another gray area
This is mostly because there are a lot of people flashing AOSP kernels in Sense Roms (and vice versa). Then they complain about screen tearing or boot loops or fruit loops. This would help calm the problem without causing any headaches.
Orrr..
EVO 4g General
EVO 4g Q&A
EVO 4g Accessories
EVO 4g Android Rom Development
Sense
AOSP
EVO 4g Kernels
Sense
AOSP
EVO 4g Themes and Apps
This would be a good idea to implement it would help organize the clutter. But on the other hand when looking through the threads I like to see what's going on in both aosp and sense. So this would take that away.
Sent from my Wimax infested cm6 SuperSonic
True, but i think if the kernels had their own place that would be awesome (Even if it was only one forum instead of two sub-forums). They are impossible to find sometimes among all the roms.
I would love something like this.
Hello XDA,
My name is swagstr and I am as some would call a developer and others would call a contributor. Either way, I have created two very successful ROMs, SOS+ (X/S/M) for the HTC EVO 4G and SOS M for the HTC EVO 3D.
I have a vision for a new project and I was hoping to get as many developers and contributors as possible to help with this project.
The project is titled: All Swagged Out Project. It is a play on the way most people misspell AOSP.
The goal is simple. Every time a new developer or contributor begins to dig his/her heels in and tries to learn how to modify Android, this person has to search and search and search. I was hoping that the people that develop and contribute for the EVO devices could take the lead and create a repository of sorts for modifications.
A wise man named tommytomatoe (developer of The Classic ROM for the HTC EVO 4G) once said: "Sharing is caring." I fully believe in this motto and hope that everyone in the EVO community feels the same way. I have opened up several threads over at the SOS Forums where people can post their original (or borrowed) mods and tweaks for the EVO 4G LTE, 3D, V, and 4G. I would not be opposed to having these posted at XDA, but I think I would be nice to the XDA moderators if I took the moderating of these threads on myself. My goal is to moderate these threads and add as much information as possible to provide the best ROMs for EVO users.
I think this could revolutionize knowledge sharing in the Android community and I hope EVO users can lead the way.

Interesting...........so we would have to register on this site in order to contribute to this project of yours??
Since it's a forum, I'd imagine so...
I could c people responding with different mods they find or make and posting them here and u maintaining a off site website where u store the mods in different categories. But it couldn't be in a forum like settings as redirecting from xda to another forum is frown upon.
XDA Moderator
I figure that if I added, say, my Guide, I'd have to upload all the files that are linked in there to my dev-host, for example, then copy/paste the info with the links going to my site, instead of the xda links. I think that's what you.re trying to say, Smurf?

Yeah the point I was trying to make was that since it is a forum that it will require people to sign up in order to contribute and this MIGHT be considered a form of advertising his site!
I know what he's trying to do is helpful BUT is the way that is being handled......that's why I said it was interesting! Obviously, I'm no moderator BUT I've been on XDA long enough to know that this kind of stuff like Papa Smurf said is frown upon.
We'll see what comes of this project...hahahaha

Even though this is a great idea,i would'nt see having to go off site and register to post our knowledge/guides/mods and others from this forum as a redirect from XDA,but i would be interested if you would concider keeping this here on XDA instead.I think i have a few things to contribute that i've learned over time.
I appreciate the ideas and I like the discussion. Suggestions for how to keep this maintained on XDA?

Sharing is caring is something completely different then what swagstr is trying to do
YES he's trying to create something like a one stop shop for people starting up to help them and not cause them to spend hours and hours of searching.
The issue on hand I believe is that having it on a different site causes an issue with XDA rules and policies
Anyways, my suggestion to you swagstr is that you should request people to send you guides, suggestions, tips or whatever via PM and when you have enough of them.....start up a thread in the general section or maybe the development section.
Once you get enough guides or whatever, request that it be turn into a sticky
Hope everything works out as this is something that in my personal opinion could prove to be helpful if done correctly!
Let me know what you end up going with and I'll write up a few guides to contribute to it!
A thing like this is something I would be interested in.....

This thread is set to discuss developers on xda that plan to buy and/or develop for the HTC One. Does any developer plan on kernel, ROM, AOSP, CM10.1, etc... and so on plan on developing for this device? Please comment below!
The goal of this thread is to try and understand which developers will develop for which model of the HTC One (if the MID difference is big enough to split development communities). Believe it or not, a lot of people on XDA heavily consider how well a device's development community will be before purchasing. After all, we are all here to mod our phones. We can hopefully expect great developers to come to this device once it is released in the US in the next weeks. Hopefully we can get a handle on what development will look like!
This OP will be updated, if this thread takes off, showing a list of confirmed developers and what model they plan on getting.
Current confirmed
