Google dished out Evo handsets to all the lucky (so lucky!) attendees of its blowout I/O 2010 event, and a trio of those visitors rolled up their sleeves and decided to get down and intimate with the phone over the weekend. The product of their labor is at this stage just a few screenshots and a blurry video after the break, but fear not, we're sure details of the hack will be forthcoming promptly."

im not sure that EVERYONE will be going to the EVO ... yes its a nice phone and love the size of the screen , but looks like Sprint is going to use AT&T tacktics.. i am told you will need to pay for 4g service ( per month ) even if you dont want it! another words , you will need to purchase a plan that will allow the EVO to work and that service will cost more money per month ...
as for me i would rather have the NExus One but we shall see what happens ..
I really wish that Sprint didn't release such amazing phones within a year range that are near the same, besides hardware specs...
And on topic now, that's amazing! Hopefully like someone said, that can be used towards our rooting!
Pisses me off that this is coming so soon, I have until early october until I qualify for a $75 credit since that was when our heros were released. Hopefully there will be some equally impressive or better phones coming to sprint by the end of the year?

This was my first thought too... The EVO is running 2.1 correct? it has been rooted, which should open the door for the rooting of the Official version running on the Hero.
I hope the Dev's stick around and support the Hero for a while yet as the phone is awesome, especially with the Newest Rom's.
Happy Trails!
Sheesh WRONG SECTION!...

Thanks for posting this, I seem to forget that there are other sections.
This is good news but this should be moved the the general section tbh.

Its $10 additional to whatever ur paying now... not really a big change in anything... just like when people bought their hero's, it required a certain plan.. its the same thing.. u gotta pay for the 4G service..
(and would people stop wasting your time to post "wrong section".. let a mod see it or figure it out... no need in 20 people sayin the same ****)
Just because the Evo was able to be rooted doesn't mean that it should help with the Hero 2.1 Case in point.....even after the hero was initially rooted, how long did it take for the eris to follow suit even though it was running the same 1.5?
I'm not sure if I really want the EVO or if it's just wanting to be on the cutting edge... it's kinda useless to me where I live because there are 0 plans to bring 4g here anytime soon, but they're bringing it to town 60 miles away. Bad timing in my honest opinion for this phone, because only select markets get to benefit from it's main feature, 4g.

Its the same thing as when the G1 came to T-mobile. It was their first 3g phone, and they had almost no 3g coverage at the time. Sprint has been rolling out 4g for a while. It makes sense in the areas that have it or are slated to have it soon. Plus, the phone itself is amazing on 3g, so really, I don't see why it matters. The 10 dollars sucks if all you get is 3g, but whatever, still cheaper than anyone else, and you do no longer have a 5 GB limit.
Hopefully Sprint in its infinite wisdom doesn't delay the release to update these in a big effin hurry before they're in our hot little hands. Not that there's precedent for that, but ...
I know there were other devs with this ROM waiting to show they had root as well just for that reason. Oh well. crosses fingers!!!
EVO looks bad ass, but it breaks my heart to see that they don't even have any set plans of 4G where I live. Hopefully sprint puts out another snapdragon that can hold me over till 4g spreads a little more, I don't wanna pay 10 extra bucks a month for service I can't utilize.

J/K markus, but this just goes to show you that when these devs want something, they do it, fast.
Well my wife and i got our HUGE tax return today and im trying to talk her into letting my sell my hero and buy the EVO. Problem is as of june 1st my company is closing down so ill be outta work. Decisions, decisions.

http://gizmodo.com/5535436/sprint-wont-sell-the-nexus-one
"When Sprint's Michelle Leff Mermelstein told us that the company wouldn't be selling the Nexus One because of the "upcoming availability of the award-winning Evo 4G," it didn't change much for your average user. The Evo, like the Incredible, looks at least as enticing as the Nexus One, and even shares a lot of the same hardware. Where it diverges, Sprint says it's a "more robust, full-featured device," which, well, it is."
Sprint, like Verizon did earlier this year, has decided to not sell the Nexus One. I could never see a reason to choose this over the awesomeness that will be the Evo (even with the wonky Android upgrade schedule), but I know some people were still waiting for it. Sort of makes sense though, they were only going to run the risk of cannibalizing each other. If I was Sprint, I'd want the Evo to get all the attention too.
(Just a note: I know this is the CDMA Hero community, not the Nexus One forum or anything, but this is the group I connect with and with our investment in Sprint, I thought it was worthy of our forum. I don't go anywhere else on XDA.)
Sorry Fixxer2008
Just because the Evo is on the same network doesn't mean that I, and I suspect many others, wouldn't still consider and possibly choose the N1. While the Evo does seem like it will be the phone on Sprint to have, it also may not fit everyone's tastes. Not to mention that if Google has the ability to upgrade the N1 immediately to the next available Android OS instead of us having to wait for HTC and Sprint to figure it out, well that right there would probably push many folks to buy it before the Evo. I think Sprint is dropping the ball here because more options are always better than less.
i think i just heard fixxers head explode
It does really sadden me that Sprint has chose to do this. I really wanted a Nexus One over an EVO 4G.
A few reason as to why:
Established Community
Vanilla Android is SO much quicker & has a better battery life opposed to Sense.
I like choices.
I don't 4G coverage & probably won't 4G coverage in my area for a long time.
This is Verizon and Sprint's big mistakes. They don't want to give up control over the devices, and Google doesn't want to give them control over this device.
Google is attempting to shake up the hardware sales revenue stream that the carriers have and they are trying to stomp it out.
Unfortunately, it is us, the customers who get hurt by it.
Pretty sad, because I thought Sprint really was turning things around, but it appears they are still the same ol' Sprint.
Confirmed the information here:

i have a good offer on the moment right now but there is hardly any development for it so im not sure. i do have a feeling once the EVO comes out that will be sprints flagship android device of the year and the hero will be left behind. ill have to look up the galaxy, thanks.
I can see why people are mad and want a google phone that gets updated directly from google.
Alot of people think the evo is too big. The nexus has nice size and looks pretty sleek.
But the Evo does have much better specs, and does still get 3G.
Plus you can turn sense off, and if you root (when these guys figure out how)
You can remove the HTC lockscreen, and make and revert all the HTC apps back to stock, and the device will run faster.
But the nesux one on sprint for $99 would be a hell of a deal and would pull alot of customers who want a cool smartphone but don't need everything the EVO does.
Plus sprint better not go out of stock the first day, I want an evo
Well this is disappointing news

The Nexus One is an amazing device, the Evo is also an amazing device. Sprint should carry both and just make everyone happy and put money in their big pockets!
How is everyone feeling about there being just over 1 week of big development on the Hero? ... ... ... Evo is coming out soon so I expect this board to die down a lot.

Well, I can have it both ways I guess. I've had the Hero since January and I love it. My dad will be getting the EVO next weekend. So I've been explaining to him the benefits of root and what not, and I think I have him convinced to root it. I have to admit that I am jealous, although it will be nice to have some hands on experience when I do root it for him.
I have my Hero rooted with Fresh 2.1.2 and with the Envy theme on it. I might start to learn to theme on my own since there are tutorials out there. It looks easy, but time consuming.
Ultimately, I'm satisfied and I thank the themers and the rom devs out there who made my phone a nice piece of work.
Listen.. Not everyone will be able to upgrade and not everyone here has 500 dollars to shell out for a phone in an economy like this. Progress will slow as far as hero goes but will not stop. come June 4th ill still be here and so will everyone else... Theres a strong reality in the real world and most people who say "ill get the phone" will not get it simply because life doesn't work that way. Theres stipulations and events that happen daily that impede peoples lives and plans.
Stop worrying about development for the hero.

I *was* going to get the Evo and actually considered purchasing it outright or adding a second line to my account to get it, but not sure if I can handle an additional $80/mo bill on top of my current load which is horrendous already.

Additional &80???
How's that? Do you have just one line right now?
I am pretty sure I am holding off on the EVO. Not that the specs don't give me a hard on, but ----- I really want a tegra or dual core snap dragon even more than I want this.
And I don't have 4g any my area, and it took years to even get 3G here...I can only imagine the roll out will be just the same. I really can't belive there are still parts of the U.S. that are dead-zones...let alone not having 3G.
I was absolutely pumped on the EVO and am eligible for an upgrade. However, after some recent disappointments with Sprint's service/customer service, I will be sticking with my Hero. I don't plan on ditching Sprint (yet) but I also have no desire to extend my contract with them, which is the whole reason they come out with the newest and fastest so quickly.
So, I've decided I'm not taking the bait. In a few months, I will be a contract free Hero owner and plan to enjoy the peace of mind of knowing I can tell Sprint to go **** themselves whenever I please.

Hello,
I am a brand new customer that came over from AT&T to buy the HTC EVO 4G.
I have been mostly happy with the phone, but very unhappy about the 30 FPS cap on the graphics ... the Nexus One runs on the same hardware and is able to push 60FPS or more. To add insult to injury, my EVO's screen is starting to separate at the bottom of the device, which means I am going to have to either return it or exchange it for a new EVO prior to the 30 day limit. At first I was content to just exchange my EVO for a new one, but here are my concerns:
1. Are these problems going to be fixed? If I get a new EVO, will HTC/Sprint ever fix the graphics problem? Will I have another instance of hardware failure (screen separation)? Further reading on this topic here: (links removed due to XDA policy)
2. I bought and paid about $30 to have a ZAGG shield installed on the face of the EVO (lifetime warranty permanent screen protector) ... if I exchange my EVO, there is another $30 I am paying. What happens if I keep having hardware failures? Do I have to pay $30 each time to have my ZAGG shield replaced? Unacceptable!
3. Screen Responsiveness - The top part of my EVO is not very responsive, possibly due to a improperly grounded screen. Yet another reason I have to return it. Unfortunately, there are none in my area so I have to wait until they come in. Will the new one have the same problems?
4. WiFi strength on the EVO is lackluster at best. More reading here: (Link removed due to XDA policy)
5. Evo 4G is the first 4G phone - too bad you can hardly ever get 4G reception and when you do, the speed is not nearly what Sprint has advertised. This is not a dealbreaker because this phone has so many great qualities, but the speed tests that I and others have done show that the speed on the 4G is not that great, not even better than AT&T's iPhone 3GS speeds much of the time. Very sad.
I would like to say I am going to be a loyal Sprint and HTC customer for many years, but with all these issues I am seriously considering returning my phone and cancelling my service within the 30 day window.
Can you help me understand how these problems will be fixed? What is your time frame for fixing them? Are the Sprint and HTC teams even aware of these issues and are you looking into them? I have found I love Android phones now, but I can just as easily cancel my contract and move to T-Mobile who supports a wide variety of Android phones (Nexus One, anyone?). Please help me understand why it is best to stay with Sprint and HTC. I *want* to be a loyal customer, but I need to know that my concerns are being heard and addressed.
Thank you in advance for your time!
Sincerely,
Tim D.
Also - Mods - can I get verified? How do I make that happen? Thanks, Tim.
At least you didn't ***** about the 10 dollar Premium Data. That + former AT&T customer = nice letter
Thanks ... I tried to keep it as positive as I could. I have had pretty good luck getting things accomplished with EECB's that are positive. (I recently had my Dell XPS m1730 repaired out of warranty after I aired my concerns to Dell)
I hope we can find a resolution. The EVO is a GREAT phone plagued by a few problems that hopefully can be resolved one way or another.
Edit: Perhaps if some other forum members would like to write up their own letters and send them, maybe we can get some movement on this.
Pull your ZAGG screen off and then get a warranty replacement for $5 shipping. They replace it free if you replace your device.
Thank you for that tip about the ZAGG shield - I was not aware of that... I will have to wait until the last second though to make sure I actually get a new EVO from Radio Shack
Maybe if we all send nice letters, we could MAYBE at least get the source.
Bump!
Nobody else has sent an EECB? might be a good way to get some much needed attention for these problems...
I was planning to and then got side-tracked. I shall later tonight. Much thanks for bringing it to my attention again!

My only complaint is the serious lack of WIFI, and even when i do have it the speeds are terrible. also 4g isn;t official in my area but i get it sometimes 1 or 2 bars max (only in 1 spot outside my house its kinda odd). The speeds are hitting close to 4mbps for me. I hope they finish installing 4g in the boston area.
So are those all the email addresses I need to email? Are they all .com?
Well, I just EECB'd them, putting a particular slant on the issue of releasing the source. I have a gut feeling that HTC is working to do this, but it would be really nice to get a straight answer out of them. (So, be nice to HTC.)
Hello, and to whom it may concern:
Like many other potential smartphone customers, I've been looking forward to the release of the HTC EVO 4G. I've been using prepaid phones for too long and had myself set on finally becoming a Sprint customer with an EVO.
As someone who was lucky enough to get an EVO from Google I/O this year, I've been using the phone for the past three weeks or so. While the phone has almost lived up to my expectations, there is one major flaw that I find unacceptable: the artificial graphics performance cap on the phone.
At Google I/O, Google and their partners showed off many different Android phones, both new and old. Most of the higher-end phones, including HTC's own Nexus One, have great performance. Games run speedily and smoothly and the interface positively flows. That, however, is not the case with the EVO. The EVO, even with its top of the line hardware, is artificially capped at rendering 30 frames per second. I find this very unfortunate, as a side by side comparison between the Nexus One, EVO, and iPhone will show that the Nexus and iPhone run their respective UIs and games much more smoothly than the EVO. I expected 3D performance to be a selling point with such a gorgeous phone—I guess not.
I, along with many others, have contacted HTC about this issue. HTC's official line is that the 30 FPS cap was intended to "improve battery life" and they have no plans to change this. While this is disappointing, it is HTC's right to build their firmware how they want. However, I ask HTC: please make this fact more public. This cap was a rude surprise to developers and has made many of them unhappy, even leading to some phone returns, as evidenced by the discussion on prominent phone dev boards: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=620. (I've come close to wanting a refund—but my phone was free, so I have no hard feelings.)
In addition, I'd like to ask HTC to expedite the release of your Android kernel source so that developers like me can remove this cap. I'm sure many others will do the same, even if it does void their warranty and is not officially supported. It would be nice to have a phone that actually works as advertised.
HTC makes good phones; there's no reason to artificially limit the EVO from becoming HTC's best.
Thank you for your time and for listening to my concerns.

GREAT JOB. Very nicely written.
On another note, I have been reading about what may be Sprint's 2nd 4G phone, the Samsung Galaxy S Pro... I am thinking of returning my EVO and waiting for the Galaxy to drop... too many problems with the EVO. The sad thing is I have to do it within the 30 day money back timeframe, so I am quickly going to be coming up on a hard stop.... ARGH!

Hello _______,
Thank you for providing us with the request for the sourc code for your EVO 4G, to which I understand you are entitled. I also understand that in the legal information of the phone it says to contact Customer Service with this request, although that is not entirely correct. From Technical Support, we can only pass along your request to the appropriate department, and as they do have your request it will be posted. This is not a gambit of any sort nor a desire to keep anything from our users; as to why it is not available yet, I do not know, nor do my supervisors. If we at Technical Support did have access to either send out the code or post it on the website, I would be more than happy to do so as I understand that you are anxious for it and I would love to be able to provide it.
I agree; the phone is great and I am fairly excited myself to see what you and the rest of the developers come up with.
The request has been made to the appropriate department, and when the code is posted it will be available at developer.htc.com. I apologize that it is not available at this very moment, and I thank you for your patience in this matter. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again. You can find additional support at support forums at community.htc.com. There is also a customer satisfaction survey for you to take if you are interested.

Im running a Cm6 Nightly build and I love it, I'm still contemplating about getting the update of just staying rooted. We'll see
Happy Flashing!
Okay guys, good and bad news!
I decided to call 2 more times bc Tmobile has the tendency to lie to customers, so there will not be a update coming out for us as of yet..
Sadness news I've ever given..
It makes me mad sometimes i was talking to a rep (dust under my screen) and i asked if the update was coming out soon... and the lady said were not even getting one i hope this is true i heard it may start pushing on the 25th

This would be so sweet I probably won't unroot since I'm sure within the first day or so, somebody will post the rom (rooted) and I can save myself some trouble.
Yes ChiefzReloaded would defo do that.

Well I called tmobile and they said that they are planning to update our phones to 2.2 but not until the Mytouch 4G is coming out.
Edit: This is what I got from this website... http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTouch-3G/Ladies-and-Gentleman-Froyo/td-p/496813
"Q: When can non myTouch 3G devices expect the Android 2.2 (aka Froyo update)
A: We are working to provide Froyo at a later date for non myTouch 3G devices. (i.e. myTouch 3.5mm jack, Fender Limited Edition and Slide) Check T-Mobile Forums for updates."
I honestly don't know why anybody would trust ANY of the call center CSRs. It's clear they don't know ANYTHING. They are typical tier 1 type support staff who only know how to read from a script. Step 1: power cycle, step 2: reset the phone...ect ect. They don't have any inside info on release dates for updates....clearly. Because both on here and the Tmo forums, I read all kinds of comments about what info people are getting when they call support. Some say the Slide is getting it tomorrow, some say next month, some say never....and some say "What is Froyo?".
The BEST information source is this forum and the Tmo forums. Every leaked phone, or leaked OS update, has been a bad scan or photo of an internal memo given to employees. THEN you will have the date. Until then, anybody who claims to know when or have a date is just completely guessing or listening to false information from someone else who is guessing.
Gosh, thats all the way in November anyway so looks like we have to wait.

lol thanks for that info, will check it out
I actually got word from a rep in the store that end of august was the target date. But at this point.. i've seen/heard/read so many "a rep told me...." stories i don't pay any of them any attention. All official docs say we'll get it at a "later date" and I'm happy with that. to be honest.. i'm only hoping it comes out so devs can mod it and get fully functioning bluetooth and sense ported over. I'm not interested in the stock one from t-mo. CM has more options. i'm good with that right thur.

We're definitely getting it right after the myTouch 4g. T-Mo is making chess moves, in other words they're playing it smart by giving us a chance to get rid of the Slide and pick up the 4g. The 4g is a very good phone but it still isn't enough for me to drop the Slide. If you watch the video reviews the software is very similiar. The processor and front cam is another story though. If we all had the Froyo update with flash support then I don't think that most of us would buy the phone and that's why T-mo isn't giving us the update till the phone is released. The only way I'm dropping the Slide is for the Nexus 2. Google's flagship phone will always get updates before any other phone.

I'm not going anywhere near the 4g. If the G2 root problems are any indicator.. the 4g my be just as hard to get rooted.. and secondly
i like my friggin keyboard. and no one uses vid calls! i have friends with iphone 4. they use it to show off to other non iphone people... thats it.. they rarely make calls that way

I agree with you, but that's only as of right now. Video calls is the future so more and more people will have it. It will be the new standard, but I can live without it. I love having a physical keyboard although swype works well. I think T-mo is gonna release a keyboard version accouple months down the line.

agreed. I think they will as well and I'll probably jump on that one. I was kind of hoping there would have been a cam on the g2 but alas... there was not... so right now i don't really see it as an "upgrade" from a slide... thats more like a lateral move... i mean really.. what are you gaining? a faster processor.... on a mobile phone....?!? other than that the hinge is cool and it's a sleek device. but I'm not shelling out hundreds for that. I'll await the next mytouch with keyboard (besides.. i LIKE the sense ui... i HATE the genius button)

I love the sense ui also. The genius button has potential, but the biggest downside is the load time. I thought it was a low processor issue, but if you watch a few reviews on youtube of the myTouch 4g then you'll see that even it loads the software slow so it must be the program that needs tweaking. As for waiting for the next slide, i would choose the nexus 2 if it comes first so you know that you're guaranteed updates.

I am stuck between the EVO and the Shift.
My wife has the EPIC, which has a really nice GPU, but I refuse to personally own a Samsung phone..
How is the GPU in the EVO Shift?
Is the smaller screen really a draw back?
I came from an Evo to the Shift. Don't want to go back.

It is really a matter of opinion. I had an Epic and I will tell you that there is no other smartphone line on the market that can match the graphics performance of the Hummingbird processor. They won't even come close.
That said, the GPU on the shift is not bad, its just not as good as the one in the SGS line. Personally, I don't play a lot of games on my phone and if I do they are not GPU intensive ones. My wife (she owns the shift and I now have an Evo) plays the sims on her phone and I've never seen it even stutter. I've watched full 1080p avi videos on both phones and never had an issue.
As to the screen, no one can say for you if its an issue. For me, it is. 3.6 is just too small but to my wife its more than enough. My suggestion would be to the sprint store and play with each. If you want the big screen the Evo is great and it has a great development community. If you want the keyboard, even though there doesn't seem to be a lot going on around here there are a lot of great devs would have already switched and are just waiting for permanent root to start releasing some very cool stuff.
For me, I wouldn't get or use my evo without the sprint extended battery for it. That fixes a major evo issue, battery life. It depends on what's most important features on a smartphone. I won't go through all the questions but figure out what you're wanting to do most often and go with the phone which that is it's strongpoints.
None of them do everything well.
I'm personally waiting for root on the Shift before I decide to buy it. Of course by then Sprint may announce something better. We'll see. My Hero is fine for now.

Might I ask why you're waiting for permanent root? You are of course entitled to your own opinion and can make your own decision, I just don't understand your reasoning.

I agree, that's intriguing. Permanent root will happen, the Shift out of the box will blow your Hero away if you're worried about the bloatware.
I have the phone and I'm waiting for Perma root. In fact, if it's not achieved before my 30 days mark, I might take it back and buy it again once its done.
Use and abuse the 30 days I say. This also might free me up for whatever is being revealed on the 7th, which is one day after my 30 day mark.

Like you, I'm currently using an HTC Hero (fully rooted, ROM'd, & themed). I'm due for my upgrade next month, but am having difficulty deciding between the Epic & Evo Shift. They both seem to have their strong points, but I'm just torn. I'm thinking I'll "test drive" the Epic (sAMOLED screen really looks nice), and if I don't like it I'll use the 30-day return policy & give the Evo Shift a try.
The biggest complaint I've been reading about the Epic is lack of support. I've figured out that this basically means people are upset that it doesn't have an official Samsung FroYo release yet. Understandable. HTC seems to have gotten better with their updates (my wife has an OG Evo), but I remember a time when we Hero users were very, very upset with HTC/Sprint because we didn't have Eclair for the longest time. Remember that?
Bottom line (for me) is that no phone manufacturer is perfect!

I've read some speculation about an iPhone 4G, but I don't know if I believe it. I've always felt the iPhone and iOS were overrated - I wouldn't buy one even if Sprint did offer it. Android all the way for me!

I said something about that somewhere, but that's just total speculation on my part, based on VZW getting it. Unless you saw it elsewhere.

i had a hero too and i was one of those very upset people who waited forever for the 2.1 update....once it got leaked and i tried it i was so disappointed i finally rooted and never looked back...but i feel like sprint and htc took a lot of crap for that and look what happened with the evo....first carrier phone to get 2.2....so i think they may have learned their lesson so im hopeful updates will be quick for the shift

I completely agree! The Eclair update for the Hero was a definite disappointment. I was very apprehensive about rooting (fear of bricking my phone). Once I did it & realized how easy it actually was I kicked my self for not doing it sooner - no more dialer lag!
I hope you're right about HTC and their updates going forward. Maybe the Hero fiasco taught them a valuable lesson - the Evo 2.2 update and subsequent patch (Swype & other software) seems to show they've learned something. If the delay goes on much longer for the Epic users, Samsung may find a lot of people either jumping ship early or just refusing to buy their products in the future.
I know I'll most likely root whatever device I end up with, but I think Samsung's delay with FroYo is my biggest hangup because I don't want to go through it again!

Honestly, if you are considering the Epic, don't. Its not worth the money. I bought it at launch and it was the biggest technological mistake I've ever made. I should have gone with my gut and gotten an Evo from the start. If the Epic gets froyo it will be the last update it gets, it will never see gingerbread or anything beyond. They've left the GPS barely functioning for this long and I doubt if they'll ever really care enough to fix it. The upside is you never really have to worry about bricking it because its already a brick.
I have a MacBook and love it. I thought I would like an iPhone but I read stories about the cons of the phone. I feel as if apple heavily censors some apps and deny some really useful apps because maybe they think someone could do something remotely black or grey hattish with it.
A Swiss army knife or leatherman multi tool can be very useful and handy sometimes. You could also use it to cut someone's brake lines or slit their throat. They decide that we aren't responsible enough to have something like that at our disposal. Once again, I digress.

I appreciate the input... any input I get to help me decide. I still have a couple weeks to hash it out, so I'm researching & taking all opinions into account. Speaking of opinions... my ex-wife had a Moment which she cursed constantly... what did she "upgrade" to? You probably guessed it... the Epic.
I also plan to spend some more "hands on" time at the Sprint store with both phones.

I do apologize for my harsh opinion. I felt very burned by Sprint and Samsung based on the fact that the sales rep sold me on the epic based on a claim that there would be 4g in my area within 2 months and that the Epic would have 2.2 in less than a month. However, when I came back to have them check out my wife's instinct the same guy told me that the Epic wouldn't be getting FroYo and as you are aware there is no official Froyo for it nor is there 4G in my area. I bought my wife a Shift because I knew she couldn't handle dealing with the Instinct any longer but I bought it off contract so that when hers is up we can leave Sprint and just pay my ETF. If I could get out of Sprint with just paying one ETF I would do it now.
