Maybe you can first instal Amon-RA recovery and then install Fyodor ROM with built in Market Patch. Also Fyodor ROM is much better than the stock ROM
Recovery
ROM

adb
may be you just didnt get adb working
windows has a usb driver issue sometimes that means you have to un-install the device first then go for the adb device recognition
in your command prompt first check are at the directory where your adb files are located,,,
then plug in and wait a mo- now type - adb devices -
( without the dashes of course )
you should get something like htcw804556554
( made up but you get my drift )
if thats not working you have the usb driver issue i mentioned above
the forum post on tattoo market hacking is brilliant and does work so all i can say is give this a crack see what gives !!
..

thanks terminal 7, I will try this today.

Tutorial to Import SMS from Nokia phone to HTC Hero

Hi,

Ok got it to work,
okay my converter sux I got it .D if you could post more info to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4385729 your tutorial for Hero could be much more simpler...
and dont forget to give credits plx .D
best regards
I had mentioned your thread as a credit in my blog post. Maybe I will make it bold now . And I know it could be simpler. When I have time I could write a tool to insert the xml generated by Amber Nokia convertor into the SQL Lite databases directly without doing all the hacks i.e. merging a tutorial to convert NOkia->WM and then WM->Android. The WM bit isn't really necessary tbh.
Sorry I just noticed.. I forgot to include the link to your post and only included the modaco ones SOrry for that.. Done it now
iphone to htc hero???
anyone?
Almost there, but a little help needed please
Hi, have followed all the steps and got a saved copy of import.xml.
Next I connected the phone using the USB cable. (Didn't mount it as a USB device)
Then I opened Command Promt on my PC and changed to the android SDK tools directory.
Then I type "adb shell" (without quotes)
It says:
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
$
At this point the phone disconnects from HTC Sync and I have to end adb.exe (which appears twice) in windows task manager to get it to reconnect to sync.
Any suggestions please?
If it disconnects from HTC Sync, it's fine as long as you get the shell prompt

But then if I type "su" after the $ it says su: permission denied...
I assume your phone isn't rooted then.

Maybe not. To be honest I'm starting to feel a bit out of my depth here. I don't really have any programming knowledge and haven't really used dos much before. I'll go and research 'rooting' now, but if you can come back with a quick instruction in the meantime that'd be great
Ok, so I've found various instruction for how to root my phone. Only problem is that they each seem to relate to what network I'm on. I was originally on T-Mobile, but paid to have it unlocked so I can use my 3 sim. Should I just use the instruction relating to T-Mobile? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm a bit worried about permanently wrecking the phone

Ok, if I use the instructions here (my ROM version is 2.73.+) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4525393&postcount=1 do you think it should be ok? I am a bit worried about the part where it says "flashrec is using an exploit that isn't patched yet in the current kernel used by HTC, however if/when HTC patches this, flashrec will stop working. So for now it's ok but a next version might have patched this, so keep this in mind !"

First of all you need to root your phone. Take a look in this thread and follow section 1.5. Instead of the recovery file suggested by the instruction, use the one from this thread. (Otherwise you won't be able to flash Gingerbread)
You have now rooted your phone and flashed a custom recovery program. Now you'r ready to choose a rom. I would suggest nFinityGB from arco. Just download the rom you like and put it on your SD card. Reboot your phone into recovery and DO A FULL BACKUP. Do a wipe/factory reset and flash the new rom (flash zip from sd card or something like that). Reboot the phone and have PATIENCE, the first start can take up to 5 to 10 minutes. Enjoy!
If you run in to any trouble, search! I can almost guarantee that your problem is not entirely new or unique, if it is; feel free to ask for help
yh nfinity gb is best man
guys i try a rooting way but hmmmmm give me error with rootTattoo app
its give me after its runing on dos screen ( no space left on the device ) !!!

C:\androidsdk\tools>adb devices
'adb' is not recognized as an in

The memory is not the SD card space but the internal memory of the phone.
the internal phone space 150 mb
& the sd card space 1.83 Gb
that is what i found on the phone !
Use Universal Androot and ROM Manager much easier without PC

I have only encountered the "no space left" error once and that was when I missed a step in the manual rooting process. I didn't have any problem with the automated rooting tool mentioned in the FAQ and no problems at all when I did the manual rooting following each and every step carefully.
Sorry but I have know idea what causes the problem if you are following the instructions.
Andy, I've been reading about Androot and ROM Manager since you posted.
I have the standard 1.6 version from HTC, using Androot and ROM Manager I can use any of the rom's posted here in xda or do I need something else?
Did you rooted and flashed your tattoo this way?
Thanks

[Q] One-Click Rooting Stock Android 2.1

Hi there,
Newcomer to the forums - go easy guys!
I'm wondering what's the safest one click .apk I could use to root my LG GT540 using the stock Android 2.1? If possible I would like to revert back to a unrooted device within oneclick as well.
The only reason I am interested in rooting my device is to overclock it - by adding more power when needed, and to lower the frequency when I'm not using it.
Any help is appreciated guys, thanks!

Sorry, but you cannot overclock the phone without installing a custom kernel. But for rooting your device, I recommend z4root, it gives you the option to un-root too. Download the .apk from here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/17562655/z4root.1.3.0.apk/
Just put it on your SDCard and install with either APKInstaller or ASTRO File Manager from the market.
Hope it helps,
Jack
Okay, thanks!

You will have full control over the android filesystem with certain root apps (eg. Root Explorer) but rooting is actually quite secure, you have to allow or deny apps when they request superuser access. It will also allow you to WiFi Tether so you can use your phones internet connection on your computer (Your phone broadcasts a wifi signal that your computer can use for an internet connection)

Hi there, thanks for your help so far! Would I be able to change the top white bar (where the battery icon is) on my now rooted Android 2.1 stock?

For that you will have to find and download a moded/themed framework-res.apk .
You will also need to instal SDK tools and ADB bridge on your computer ( there are many tutorials on the net - google it )
After that you simply connect the phone to PC via USB cable , open cmd on PC and give the next comand :
adb push [directory of framework-res.apk ] /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
For example - adb push C:\Downloads\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
if you have any more questions feel free to ask

[Q] Adb setup issues on G2

Hi, guy. I have been spending all my free time trying to root my g2. But i can't even start rooting. Cause i can't set up adb on computer. I am doing everything right, watched tens of youtube instructions but nothing can help. I have extracted android-sdk_r12-windows.zip file on my local C disk. connected the phone launched cmd.exe but it is not showing the serial number as it was supposed to. I am new to android world switched from iOS world. I am already ready to give up with rooting. can anybody have any instructions how to downgrade to froyo and root the G2. Any help will be appreciated.
No need to use full ADB afaik. There are mini-adb programs that don't require a full SDK install.
You can also accomplish things using the terminal emulator app on the phone instead of the cmd prompt on the computer.
Make sure you have enabled usb debugging on the phone.

Did you update your PATH variable? Have you installed the proper drivers? There is a great thread here on how to set up ADB. It's a great resource if you haven't read it already.
Where can i find drivers for G2? i could not find one neither on htc support website nor t-mobile site. and i also updated PATH variables.

I don't know where to find JUst the drivers, but I know if you install HTC Sync, the software used to sync phone contents with HTC Sense ROMs, it will also install the drivers you need along with it.
All the links on the official HTC site are broken, but I found the Sync software here:
http://htc-sync.software.informer.com/
After the initial setup, I found that I could uninstall the actual Sync software and leave the drivers with no problems.
The links are not broken. They are designed for european version of te website. That's why we can't find them

I don't think so... I had no problem using them myself a few months ago.
I just googled htc sync and went to thee link for htc's site boom done! Did it list week. Ps I rooted following the sticky for rooting using gfree no adb. It was a cinch.

I had the same experience a few months ago, but last night I could not track down the official Sync software from HTC's website. If you don't mind, could you link me to where you found it? Just to ease my curiosity... this is bugging me.
Edit: Nevermind - found it.
Made hard on purpose. The newer the g2 the harder it is. The path and making sure giving permission (esp on w7 cpus) is imp.

Nicely rooted Nook Touch got "unrooted" - few thoughts

Dear fellows,
I got nicely rooted Nook Touch (and have never asked such dummy questions) with plenty of applications working on it - all of them uploaded and tested via try/error approach. Unfortunately, I did not use it for quite some time.
Now, can see:
1) the left-handed hardware buttons stopped to work - the upper one was used as a "Back" button, the one below it as a "Settings"
2) Cannot connect via adb from my laptop
3) Some programs like AdFree started to push a kind of annoying messages like "Unable to get root. I was unable to get root access, without this you cannot install a replacement hosts file", etc.
1), 2) and 3) make me think that somehow my NST got "unrooted". How can it happen and what I can do ? I am thinking of rooting it again, but will I lost all the .apk-s installed, etc..?
Any ideas really appreciated, many thanks in advance
Any help ?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds to me that your NST got updated.
Go into Settings and check your software version.
Hi ros,
I thought of this as well. Unfortunately I can't remember if it was 1.0.1 prior rooting or just 1.0.0. At the moment it is definitely 1.0.1. I saw that B&N has just released 1.1.0 too ..
As far as I remember xe-autonook.bat had the section that blocks OTA updates,
also after rooting I did not got over the official update procedure (update screens, restarts, etc.), so seems to be something else ...
Anyway, since it already happened - if I choose the option to root it again - will I destroy everything - is it rewriting /system/apps, etc.?
Thanks

Hmm, what root method did you use in the first place?
Autonooter ? The one that is using the xe-autonook.bat - replacing the uRamdisk and then doing few other steps, the bat mentioned above is just automating the procedure.
Now I did check .. and voilla - now the firmware is 1.1.0, so basically the OTA update took place and that's why the NST got unrooted. Do you see any possibilities beside rooting from scratch ? I just want to keep the installed applications and settings
Thanks

Use TouchNooter, it'll reroot you and you don't have to wipe /data
Great, thanks Gabrial!
Will try 1.11.20, which seems to be compatible to NST 1.1.
Result:
- su on terminal emulator is behaving as expected
- GMail running (never could get it running before)
- Market running (the same as GMail - never got running it before, used Amazon Appstore due to this reason)
...
- thankful, great and nice work, when I saw the bottom left sign on the initial ("Rooted Forever") window - "GabrialDestruir", I just realized who replied to me, cheerz!
Hi guys,
However I am wondering whether should I find a way to disable the OTA updates or whether to wait and receive the B&N and then reroot (as I did now for 1.1) ?
Thanks again
