Ah, Google Non-disclosure agreements. I had to sign one when I got my G1 a month before release and it was hard keeping my mouth shut.
I'm guessing all those devs who just got free 4G Evo's didn't have to sign them, so whatever's worth hearing will be told in a few hours.
Took a spin to the adobe site with the SDK and got this message:
You do not have permission to open this page. market://details?id=com.adobe.flashplayer

You have to be running 2.2 in order to get flash from the market.. says so right on adobe's site.
"You do not have permission to open this page. market://details?d=come.adobe.flashplayer"
Thats what I get when I follow the "get flash 10.1 for android" link.
Yes, I'm running an Android 2.2 avd.
Edit: I'm guessing that this is because I'm running an avd that is not attached to a google account.

I'm guessing google told Adobe "We'll have froyo out soon after io" and Adobe said "We'll have 10.1 public beta available after io so its ready for the 2.2 release".
Either that or Adobe is being very nice to those of us who use custom ROMs. Adobe might anticipate 2.2 leaks and wants 10.1 flash ready for those people.

Flash 10.1 beta is a Android 2.2 app in the Android Market (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Tricking it to work would be like tricking a 2.1 app to work with 1.6. Even if it did work, it would likely be unusable.
I'm guessing the new JIT froyo features are neccessary to make flash fast enough to be considered acceptable. Remember that some people still have trouble running demanding flash applications with modern PCs.
Edit: I see in your sig that you have a JIT enabled ROM working in 2.1 already, so maybe flash would work for you if forced?

First thing i saw was Settings->About Phone.
It said Firmware Version 1.5. Build number 1.5 Cupcake.
i didnt take another second to flash Jf1.5. took me 1 whole day to solve compilation issues and saw 1.5 cupcake in the end.
Words like "cupcake" and "donut" are not equivalent to version numbers like 1.5 and 2.0. They are moving targets. As noted above, if you download donut today, you will get nearly the same code as cupcake.

That's because Google didn't add flashplayer, HTC did. The source tree is the open source code from Google. I'm talking about the closed source version that HTC is working on, on there own, for the HTC Hero. Improvements made by outside companies won't show up in the Google source tree.

the browser they have in that build has the flash player libraries, if you run the browser test, flash is supported.
the profile (which i posted earlier) does not mention flash, thus websites doesn't believe we have flash. above that, the browser.apk is INCOMPLETE as i've been saying.
flash IS supported, and WILL work, as soon as i receive the tutorial build.

That flash plugin is a HTC product, not a part of the AOSP. I'm referring to rumors of flash in the AOSP, although frankly we haven't seen anything promising about the HTC flash plugin either, aside from a screenshot of the plugin directory.

That seems reliable...
So did Toyota
In the past the rumors have rarely been reliable in regards to timing, so I wont be holding my breath. The Eclair roms that are available in the developers section work very well for now
That's definitely the most trustworthy-looking 2.x rumor so far. However, I won't believe it until it's officially confirmed by T-Mobile USA.
What timing! Just after finally rooting and installing CyanogenMod, an official OTA for 2.0 might be right around the corner. I wonder what would be considered preferred by most XDA users...a good modded 1.6 ROM like CM, or an offical T-Mobile 2.0 ROM.
The good modded 1.6 roms have a lot of 2.0 in them. Really besides aesthetics and the hella cool live wallpapers there are not a lot of changes that are noticeable. Speed wise there doesnt seem to be any issues either- they seem about equal. Might as well wait unless your into testing out roms and such. I am, so I have to have the latest daily
If this comes out I might actually Un-Root and Force Update.

It will be on here faster than you can unroot and force update! No need to worry about unrooting so you can get the newest update, there will be a version within hours of the OTA's starting on XDA, and if history is anything to go by, they will probably have it on here a couple days early.

CM is not a good rom. It is bloated and slow.
Official rom is also not good. It lacks some basic necessities, like wired tether and apps-to-sd.
The preferred choice should be an AOSP 2.something build with minor kernel customizations, and using the drivers that will finally be available from the official rom.
I would stay with my un-rooted G1 if there was a simple app to let me put my apps on the SD.

Market is typically disabled on all non-phone or non-3G devices by Google. That's why we have to hack a fix to make it work. Google has stated many times that they do not want marketplace on any non-phone or non-3G capable device. That might change with Android 3.0, but for now, we're stuck hacking the fix.
Ooh please let this be true. Kernel source + Froyo AOSP would make me a VERY happy camper. For that matter kernel source + TnT Lite or VEGAn would make me just as happy!

Well, that remains true as of right now.
However, barnes and noble are supposedly releasing a 2.2 + market update to their nook color in january. and for $250. that is a hell of a good deal.
I have also seen people saying they have the market and then come to find out. they didnt have it legally. but i dont thing a big wig like barnes and noble would do that.
it would seem that google is easing up on its market access. realizing that we have tablets now. and we want to fully utilize them now. not whenever 3.0 comes out.

Especially considering that Google implemented the "Fragments UI" idea in the latest SDK. From my understanding, this will allow the devs to make apps that work with both tablets and phones, where the UI will scale to different sizes for the different areas, instead of having 2 different apps.

Ok I'm gonna post a new thread devoted to this, I'm SURE someone on XDA must have found a leaked version of this beta apk, because not having it straight away is unacceptable . This is by FAR the app that I've been looking forward to with the Xoom. I'd gladly trade Flash for the next few months before the Weatherbug app! (hate me if you want, whatever)

Adding in the Fragments UI concept is only a few limited lines of code to allow scaling. Doesn't mean that the size of the apps will necessarily be any bigger. Don't forget, theres always Apps2SD
If having scalable UI means that the apps will be slightly bigger but completely functional, it's worth it.

Agreed, however this one is a different story, as it is an app that IS already in the Market, but some sort of glitch (either at the Weatherbug end or the Google end of things) isn't allowing it to be downloaded and installed. After all, as far as the Weatherbug site is concerned, this beta app *should* be fully available for download at this moment. At any rate I just sent an email in to the folks at Weatherbug as I'm quite sure they'd want to know about this so that they can communicate with Google to sort out the problem and make sure their app is fully available.

fards,
First, I really appreciate what you've done to make our Streaks performing better, as the likes of DJ_Steve, Krad, Spidla, and others. Your dedication to the dev of this great device has been invaluable. I did think before posting my comment. I know there have been communications around gingerbread coming to Dell Streak during the winter and that the source code had been posted which DJ_Steve had utilized in this ROM, but having said that there is no definitive answer to this question until the update is pushed out to us. If you read my comment you will notice that I stated that I don't think that there will be an official GB build. I hope that we get it, obviously, I'm just "don't believe it til I see it" kind of guy.
I would like to state again that I really respect your work and hope you will see the slight difference in the point I was making.
