this is really pissing me off. everyone is on 2.2 and i am on 1.6 WTF man :/

i really love the hardware design of the X10. the white one is a chick magnet. **** i even got 2 girls phone numbers because of the phone. its that good.... till i get home.. and HOLA slow phone. even the unlock is laggy :/
i got to ask a friend who works for Sony and he only knew one thing. we will get the xperia update on week 44.
thats in Nov. for %$%^ sake . this long to get 2.1 ? and nexus boys are on 2.2 already with flash support and 300% faster than 2.1 " which is already much faster than 1.6 "
this is too much. why they are ****ing this up ? they have a great phone. and its super phone just like the desire and nexus .
give me a break already. i am serisously considering selling it to nexus one. just to get greated with pink screen like most of the poor mfers here got on desire/nexus . sigh.

I'm hoping you didn't buy the phone with a superficial mindset... seems like you did. Lol @ superficial skanks giving out numbers because of some guy's phone.
You knew what you were getting into when you bought the phone... no update for a long time and no root available.
Just be patient. A root will come. They're trying to make progress.
I had a Nexus One. It was a great device but didn't impress me like I wanted it to. Would I recommend it to others? Definitely! Does 2.2 make me regret returning the N1? No.... though the speed and flash is nice. The speed of the phone was the one thing that I enjoyed on 2.1 so I'm sure 2.2 is even faster... and I hate laggy phones so I hope I don't get upset once my x10 comes in... but l know what I'm getting into and I need to deal with it.

Aside from some unrooted Nexus Ones no one has 2.2 yet, and although I see little differance between 2.1 and 1.6 so I don't care about that upgrade much. Getting 2.2 by the end of the year should be SE's goal.

guys.... i have nexus one from past one month and today i got SE EX10 also...
got 2.2 on my unlocked Nexus and i must admit its amazing speed...i dont even think we would need to customize it anymore.......
and on X10, i like the hardware and the scapes.....but only thing i am looking for is root....i dont want even roms as SE itself gave nice skin to it......
so u cant compare nexus with 2.2 and X10.. until X10 gets 2.2 ...
for now we do need root........

Hmm i see more Huge differences. 1.6 always was buggy and had Issues , aside from speed. 2.1 would bring a immense speed advantage + the screen could use more then 65k colors as 1.6 is limited to this. Shipping the device with 1.6 was such dumb**** from SE. But it ever was that SE doesn't care about their Customers.

Yes we already know that x10 is coming with 1.6 but consider this:
Many of x10 user including me never use an Android phone before
When we do our research knowing that x10 is coming with 1.6 and most of the review tell that "1.6 is not much diff with 2.1", somemore SE promised give us update further that make us took the phone.
BUT now we are already Android user with some relative knowledge and now we knew how important 2.2 is.
So don't you SE bring us into Android and leave us in the middle of no where.

also. i am sorry dude. but the X10 is laggy. its not a hardware problem. its the figgin software SE added. F##k even the unlock arrow sometimes lags. and if you think i am full of ****, your phone is coming. you tell me then what you feel.
i wouldn't be half pissed if i was on 1.6 but at least a fast software. this **** is really laggy. i use the task manager all the time just to free memory. and it still lags.
it cant be because of RAM is 256. i have tested the DROID, its also 256 and its not half as laggy as X10.
and for the other poster who think i am 4 years old with nothing else more important.. nice reply dude. shows how smart you are ... oh wait.

you are right in every thing you said ,people here takes years to understand the big problem they fall into ,x10 is dead at only 2 monthes age

RAM is actually around 384MB - I calculated more than 256MB in a test and someone else looked at a log and got more than 256Mb too.
Lagginess is down to SE's optimisation and bad firmware decision - even Android 2.0 (Original Eclair) was out months before the X10's release. (Widget list is even laggy - my pulse with a 2.1 BETA, with a 528MHz processor is smoother!

I have not heard of a huge performance bump from 1.6 to 2.1, most of the advances in 2.1 were addressed by SE in 1.6 (bluetooth, file sharing etc) I could care less about the number of colors, they're not nearly as important as the quality of the screen and X10 trumps the Nexus Ones. The speed advantage will be in 2.2, and it's why while I didn't care that X10 shipped with 1.6 instead of 2.1, I do care whether they upgrade to 2.2 or not. They stated this is a phone that would get continuous support, I expect 2.2 on our X10's.

SE needs to just give out the 2.1 update right now! and release the 2.2 update in Q3-Q4.. This is ridiculous!! I haven't used any other android phone b4 I purchased the X10 and have nothing to base comparison of 1.6 & 2.1 based phones. What i do know is like others said on this thread Hardware isn't holding back the device, the damn laggy software is! SE please stop being stuck up snobs (AKA Apple) and listen to your customers.. I love this phone and hate to see it handicapped by the stubbornness of the manufacturer..

I won't argue with the speed and I hate slow phones. And judging from pre-release software (even though they supposedly fixed it) I can tell that lag will be apparent in the x10 especially without a simple post-release update to fix common bugs. It's annoying that SE won't fix it so soon but apparently an update is coming within the next few weeks. Seems like some people's phones don't lag and some have very laggy ones so it could just be some people got the short end of the stick... either way... it needs an update.
I always wanted the x10 and backed away once I realized it was still launching with 1.6... but when I used the N1 the whole 2.0 issue wasn't a big deal for me.
My argument is that you can't have an issue with 1.6... because it's your fault for buying the phone knowing that it came with it. However, the bugs and laggy software... that's a good enough reason to be upset. The bugs on the N1 annoyed me just enough to make me feel ok getting rid of it... and it was still a great device that I wouldn't mind keeping.
If you really want to... get rid of the x10 now while you can still salvage some money from it. By the end of the summer the price will drop.
And yeah, people need to stop praising the x10 like it's the greatest android phone ever... because it's not. It's a good device though but it needs an update.
Also, I only buy the white version of phones whenever possible as well, just because they are less common.

I came to this forum looking for mature discussion about phones, instead, there's just a bunch of whiners who buy things with their parents money and then complain when the phone doesn't give them a blow job.
It's a phone for crying out loud. It does everything it's supposed to, as advertised. Updates are coming. If you're so immature that you can't wait a few months, do everyone a favor, go get some other phone, and go away.

Funny that you should say that mate, but when I got mine the week it was released in the UK, I struggled to text and make calls!
The SE keyboard was not registering Key presses e.g "A".
During a call the volume was far too quiet and I struggled to hear the person on the other end (even at max volume). The screen wouldn't always wake either for me to be able to end the call.
I guess you can argue that it still did everything, but just not very well!
TimeScape make the UI really sluggish set as home and MediaScape cannot create playlists and misses key presses.
Facial recognition is hit and miss and has a habit of losing its entire memory.
I had to debrand and upgrade the firmware to make it pass as useable and replace the keyboard with HTC one.
I was aware of the phones shortcomings when I purchased so I know that it is my own fault.
However reason I still went ahead with the purchase was because SE reps and reviews told me 2 things.
1. The delayed release was to fix the major issues with UX integration
2. It wouldn't be long before it would be upgraded to 2.1
So I personally can understand why some people are moaning.

ok honestly, i gave this alot of thoughts yesterday and i made up my mind. i am going to sell my xperia x10 today in the phone market.
i will try to find a used nexus 1 in a good condition. if i cant, then i will buy new one today anyway since i don't have a second phone.
i am just hoping for used one so i dont pay much extra.
**** this really. let them shove that pretty white phone up their ass. i was stupid for buying one.
i hope you guys have fun with your phone, and i hope you will be able to get it rooted very soon. by the time they do som the new iphone will probably be out in few months and even the EVO 4g World wide " **** this CDMA **** too " but yeah.

Serious mistake returning the N1, 2.2 is amazing. Speed of it unreal, browser is almost as fast as a desktop browser. Flash, wireless tethering, chrome to phone is amazing.
How can you go backwards to 1.6?!?!!

With all the gripes that we have with this phone right now, including no 2.1 for a 8 months (by which time SE will launch a newer Android device and pay no attention to X10 owners) as well as multitouch, live wallpapers, hundreds of apps that dont run on anything less than 2.1 etc etc, I think its high time we hit SE where it hurts.
Bring on AMOLED, 512 MB RAM, native flash and 2.2 around the corner.
Who needs a 8MP camera. Seriously, all cameras on mobile phones are **** anyways.
The screen size is a tad smaller, but so is the phone (which is better in my books).
Any other reasons anyone can think of apart from the obvious?

The X10 is as advertised and I am happy with it as is.

Im sure you are all very happy with the device at hand and this is probably not the best forum for this topic, although I know of a lot of users here who feel the same way about the X10 and would be willing to move away.
If not now, than a couple of months down the line, you will all be singing the same tune when most of the apps stop offering upgrades on the 1.6 platform.

Everyone's opinion is welcome and a forum (any) is the perfect place to express it.
I respect your opinion and your reasoning as it does have merit.
For me, this is my first run on Android.
I like the SE UI and the apps are secondary to me.

i'm with you. but i'm going for the nexus one. receiving that piece of sexy tomorrow.

I will wait another month or so, to see if we get it rooted. If not, ill be getting a 4G when available in the UK

To be very honest i think Desire and Nexus are both boring not so well designed phones. They´re geek phones with no aesthetics. X10 it´s way more sleek, elegant and big! Froyo will come as well to the X10... just patience my friends. Who know we get the phone rooted pretty soon...

Seriously just keep the x10 for now. Root will come sooner or later. You knew the x10 would come with 1. 6 then why did you buy it in the first place? If I have the patience to wait for 2. 1 or root then so does everyone else, unless you don't have a life and loaft around xda starting useless threads saying ur gonna sell your x10 for another phone. i'm going to be keeping the x10 for a while even after my nexus one gets here today.
i have faith in x10. but the phone seriously is limited by the OS. the nexus one's looks are a matter of opinion and mostly on taste. i love the way it looks but all the good features are on newer OS.
we all knew Android would be updated. but i don't think people expected the phone to have such a long wait for an update with an outdated OS. you get an android phone these days for the reason that the OS will only get better with updates. everyone sees the petition thread, right?
if OS didn't mean a thing and that it didn't have any issues for the X10, no one would be complaining.

A new iteration of Nexus, maybe a better Galaxy S (one with flash for camera) or a Motorola Motoroi if they decide to sell it in US/Canada.

I agree with miguelsantos1979.
1st Gen AMLOED screens are not overly impressive, my friend has the Desire and he struggles to see the screen in direct sun light.
If you want to change the handset, change it rather then write a post like a spoilt child

Well, assuming that people don't have the cash to switch to another phone when they are having a X10 is the most useless comment I read here since I became a member, it's not about having cash my friend, it's about what you expect from something you bought and if the product suits you or not.
Fortunately everyone is different, I like my X10 eventhough on my X1 I was able to make my own themes and tweaked whatever I wanted. Ashame some games can't be installed because of the fact it is still running on 1.6, but that's not worth getting another phone for me personally. I will wait for the updates, and as soon as SE comes with the update, there will be something new to complain about. That is how it works in this fastgrowing technology world we live in.
Another point can be not everyone goes so deep in their phones as we do, and for "normal" people the X10 is fantastic as it is. SE want to sell big with this phone, so making it to complicated scares of the average customer who just buys a phone based on the looks of it, and you have to admit, the first time you had the X10 in your hand, it was looking good
Just relax and take a beer after you bought yourself another phone

Might be flamed for this, but at this point in time I don´t really care.
Im SO tired of this 1.6 even after the small update and the rooting, im tired of not being able to install programs not supporting 1.6 anymore, tired of not being able to update programs for the same reason.
Tired of not having things like Live wallpaper etc.
When is the 2.1 update comming, and why is it not 2.1, SE is so slow.
The X10 is probarbly the only phone on the marked STILL running 1.6 i mean WTF.
im selling my X10 and getting the HTC Desire, will throw the 2.2 on it, and im sure it will make me more happy

You should own what makes you happy. I am frustrated too for SE slowness with updating but nothing out there is as sweet as X10 in looks, comfort, and sexiness to my taste. Not even close. So, I am happy to be stuck with this beast.

1.surely, you'll be missing some features of x10 like the 4" screen that SE have and the 8MP camera.
2. Not all likes to have a live wallpaper (put your picture as a wallpaper they'll know and wonder why you're still aLIVE. KIDDING)
3. there's still loads of good apps that you can download for SE (1.6).
I'm telling you aside from being much faster due to rom (and update available if you want to include) SE looks better.

I can't be bothered to look it up, but...
1) Live wallpaper? Really? That's what you're upset about?
2) I don't think SE has announced several times, on multiple websites and press releases that 2.1 is coming Q3 (around September). They haven't announced it at all.
3) When the X10 was released, several phones were on the market with 2.1. Yet, you knowingly purchased a phone with 1.6. Who is to blame? The company for clearly marketing the phone as 1.6 or the customer who purchased the 1.6 phone, just to ***** about it having 1.6? I'll let you decide that one.
As for me? Best phone I've ever used. Every time I use my friend's iPhone 4, I get happy once I grab my X10. My Blackberry never was this nice. Even my insane high-end Japanese cell phone that I could use as a credit card, train ticket, and television with a 10MP camera, true flash, and HD recording isn't as nice as the X10. I'm happy, and I can certainly wait a month or two for 2.1.

Well thats an interesting question, of course its a choice of personal preferance, but just look at the X10...............damn good looking handset, but if superficial attraction isnt your thing then i suggest trying it out, mine does everything i ask of it, used to have battery issues but since i updated to RB020 it isnt a problem, hit the 90 hour mark before needing to plug in for a recharge and that was with moderate usage calls and text and some facebucket, most are complaining about the 3g sucking the battery but i believe they are forgetting that these mobiles arent designed for web fanatics and their social websites, if you want to sit allday on your web get a laptop, as far as on the go communication goes its perfect, and with the update fast approahing it will only get better, the camera is sweet as it gives clear and detailed images, ok the call volume sucks if you are in a noisy enviroment but ive been using my handsfree so no problem, sensititvity is spot on, and of course it looks excellent............

1. Im SO tired of this 1.6 even after the small update and the rooting,
2.im tired of not being able to install programs not supporting 1.6 anymore,

1.Learn java/android and help the dev team with the 2.1/2.2 FW
2.Learn java/android and make the app compatible with your version
3.Learn java/android and write your own programs, or better yet wait for app inventor.
4.OMG I to want to sit and watch live wallpaper!!
X10 definetely has the potential to be great and the true fans will stick it out. So if your looking for reasons to stay you will not get one from me. I think you have already made up your mind so I think the saying goes "Dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya"

Just wait once 2.1 comes out its going to be one of the best 2.1 android out there.....

As for me? Best phone I've ever used. Every time I use my friend's iPhone 4, I get happy once I grab my X10. My Blackberry never was this nice. Even my insane high-end Japanese cell phone that I could use as a credit card, train ticket, and television with a 10MP camera, true flash, and HD recording isn't as nice as the X10. I'm happy, and I can certainly wait a month or two for 2.1.

Anyhow, why get a desire. Isn;t Evo 4g the highest tier of HTC that is out in he market.

Iphone 4 not a hardware problem but software......................well apparently, and im quoting the guys at apple, its not just a software problem but a hardware problem, they have admitted that the phone is beset with problems and has been since its conception, do yourself a favour dont waste your money, get an X10 and have the sweetest looking handset out, forget about the bad press as all these little foibles that the buyers have been grumbling about (you cant please *****es) as these will be sorted and a good few of them have been already, pretty soon we will be getting Android 2.1 (with a few added pleasures curtesy of SE, as Android 1.6 isnt a standard Android 1.6, its a customized SE version of Android so im speculating that when 2.1 comes it too will have that extra SE vava voom) and lets not forget the added bazinga bonus of having HD photo and video capture (a real bonus for all the homemade porn directors muhahahaha) so stop the grumbling pleeeeeaaaase, Iphone sux and X10 rocks, just hold on for a little while (and since most of you have waited longer for some action from your girlfriends) it will be over in a flash but worth the wait!!!!! muhahahahaha

As we all know , Xperia family have new members added and people all over are excited to update X10 ( .. Simply the BEST XPERIA) to the other new Xperia members..
I dont think Xperia X10 is even old .. its stupid alwayz fighing for 2.2 or 2.3 bla..bla roms... Our Xperia works much better with only lil mods even to its factory f/w.
We all take X10 as granted.. BUT TRUST ME ITS NOT...

-It doesn't even have 1 year since its release.
-It has better specs. than some new smartphones that cost more.
-We'll get a stable Froyo/Gingerbread ROM working at 100% soon, no matter if SE decides not updating it anymore.
-The bootloader is really hard to crack but that doesn't mean is impossible to do it.
-16 M colors would be the only missing feature to make this phone a complete masterpiece. We already got all the basics and we'll go for mere once we have full access to it.
Then, you know what I voted.

I'm going to be honest here, usually I buy a new phone every 6 months or sometimes less.
With the X10 . It is the first time I stick with a phone for almost a hear ( since April ) , using stock SE firmware with JIT and I'm enjoying it

change phone once a year xD last one was an x1 took me less than a year to get an x10
in june i will have a year with it so might change it to an arc or any htc

I throw my x1 (paid around 800 dlls for it) in less than 1 year
x10 will be "dumped" in few months (unless i move to another country cause it's sim unlocked) and it was around 650 dlls
pretty much depends on the person, if has money to "waste" and phone likes

for me it's great and it's the first time that i use one phone in 8 months and the new handsets i really didn't saw the differences ....all things needed is imported with x10 even the games working great

Felt good about the X10 today!

I was at a meeting today, the guy next to me had the HTC Evo 4G, looked like a sweet phone, but in the 2 hour meeting the guy had to take the battery out FIVE times because the phone froze on him. In the year I have owned my X10 I have had to do that twice that I can recall. Made me feel pretty good about my trusty x10! Just thought I'd share given all the *****ing about our phone sometimes

That's why I love my phone. Never had any problem with it. Specially now that there's a lot of custom rom out there.

Hey guys,
I just sold my HD2 and with the money i bought a brand new x10. I deceided to post a thank-you-all-for-the-support-post at their sub forum and they almost ate me alive. I was called crazy etc, now since i received the brand new package and that i have spent almost 3-4 days of heavy usage i can say honestly the following:
1. From the design point of view the device is awesome, fne and classy.
2. The OS is stable and the harware works just great.
3. From the camera point of view there is not much to compare, actually comparing the cameras of HTC and Sony is pretty insulting i guess.
4. The headphones from the pack are great
So anybody can feel free to diss X10, i can say that the phone is great and i do not regret selling the HD2 for this Sony masterpiece.

I feel sorry for two guys: the owner of the HTC Evo and the guy whom opened a thread asking for opinions about X10, but at the end he will get a Samsung (fa)i(l)Phone Galaxy

From the design point of view (phone sleeping!) I think that the front-view of X10 is way more balanced than XPERIA ARC. Have you noticed the distance between the top of the screen and the top of the heady phone?
OK, ARC is thin on the side-view but phones do not "walk like the Egyptians"
I would expect that the follow-up on X10 would be something like the attached picture... I love the visual balance of the X10.

Same for me, I dun have such problem after using my X10 compared to my previous HTC devices.
The user experience for X10 is simply great, SE has done a good job.

I must be just unlucky then, I've had to remove the battery loads and the phone keeps restarting. As I write this I'm preparing my phone to send it for repair.

just because U installed custom Rom or didn't update properly. Bad luck for U. But it worth to try that U backup everything ( but no the downloaded from market), hard resest. and try to repair by SEUS. Then if U have 0.24 or 0.435 build, everything shuold work fine

I'm gonna cheat on my X10 with the Arc......does that make me horrible? Lol

Don't get why previous X10 owners wants to get out and buy another SE android device. After the way they treated you with this device. Im not going back to a SE device next time I'll go out for a new smartphone.

Its simple....because some people actually like/love there X10's (myself included) and I do not care about SE and anything they have said. The boys here at XDA have us covered.
The Arc has everything I want in a smartphone....so why wouldn't I buy it? Its fits my needs better than any HTC, Samsung, Motorolla, etc etc.
I don't care about dual core this and dual core that...I don't care about "retina display"
I don't care about my phone having the highest specs possible when released...because in reality, it will be outdated in a month anyways.
SE never promised or said they would give us 2.2+...they have given us what they said they would (except DLNA...bad bad boys for that)
Anyways, I think you understand what Im trying to say...just because your not happy with SE, doesn't mean everyone else feels the same.
Oh...and don't take anything I said "offensive" or "personal"....I wasn't being rude or aggresive

Yeah youre right but SE does one thing better then all other Android Phones, the Style. The UI and Phone Style is very good i think no other Android Phone looks that good. Atleast this Time they launch the Phone on latest Android Version so its already one good step forward^^ And i dont think they will again do the same like with X10. But i buyed the X10 becouse of the Design most. I could have taken a Desire too but i didnt liked the Style i only liked the newer Android Version, everyone likes other things but for me stock Android is very ugly and alot of Android Phones too. Gingerbread is not that ugly but still not that good.

+1 for that my friend. SE ui is extremely nice to look at. And the phone styles they create are excellent. I don't think they will be late with updating anymore. I'm sure they learned....and the hard way....they were blasted from all over the globe lol.
The Arc is launching with the newest android os....so that's one step in the right direction right from the start. But if the arc was launching with even froyo....I'd still be on board to buy this phone. I'm not to picky when it comes to android os versions.....well as long as its not lower than 2.1.
PS. I'm actually using you cm rom v4.1 right now....excellent work man....tho I like your old ui without the arc style better.
Best 2.2 rom I've tried tho.

I pass from iPhone 4 to X10, no complain about it, only the lack of INSTAGRAM, I also have a Samsung Galaxy tab and Exchange email capability is the only one thing better than X10! Both devices are Telcel now unbranded!
