tmobile htc hd2 wifi/battery problem - HD2 General

hey you guys, i was trying to turn wifi on my phone off today and when i went into settings, the wifi icon was on the "green on" switch, but it was kinda grayed out so it wouldnt let me turn it off. do any of you know what the problem could be? thanks, also my hd2s battery dies really fast, it only lasts a few hours and drains really bad when im listening to music , even with the screen turned off, i know that battery problems have been posted all over the forums but has any fix been released? or should i just get a new battery? thanks

You Battery is Dying fast because of the WiFi being left on. Try to re-install the ROM. Also please give more info regarding the ROM you are using. So I could help you further.

The wifi icon being gray means it's turning on or of but in your case I believe it's simply stuck. If reboot doen't do a trick, reinstall ROM or install another one.

T-Mobile Wing Battery HUGE Drain When Radios OFF?

you guys are such geniuses here, maybe you can help me with this:
has anyone notice that on the TMOBILE WING, if you TURN OFF ALL RADIOS (phone, bluetooth, wifi) at night when you goto sleep (flight mode), battery at 100%, the next morning when you wake up the battery will be around 50-60%? ironically, if i leave my cellular radio on, the next morning the battery will be at 98% or 99% even 100%... does anyone know what is wrong? I've heard a few other users complain about this issue... this is a serious bug
call me paranoid but i rather have my phone off completely off at night, we get enough radiation from wifi, cellular, bluetooth daily already lol
THANKS
can someone please reply and let me know if their wing loses a big percentage of the battery overnight when cellular radio, wifi, bluetooth are all off?? if this is only my phone then i need to get tmobile to send me a replacement asap...
cnet review had the same issue when they reviewed this phone a few months ago and they said it was a bug that should have been fixed already by wing's release date.

no i dont use that, t-mobile is sending me a new unit, i will see if it still does that....
got my new unit from tmobile today, funny thing, the wing and battery now both says MADE IN TAIWAN. the original one i got from tmobile 2 weeks ago is made in china, so was the battery. hopefully this is the cause will have to leave it overnight with the cellular radio, bluetooth and wifi all off to see if the battery still disappears
...if you use any push mail service (exchange, windows live), but disable the radio, your device is trying to connect to the mail service on and on and on. so if you use any of that services, make sure you disable them too in your comm manager settings as soon as you switch the radio stack off...
cheers, lutz

you make an excellent point! but i don't use any of those, the email i do have, is pop3 and i've set it to check email manually, meaning only when i click send/receive. i'll know if it's a software or hardware issue once i try this new replacement overnight with all the same apps installed as the previous one.
Having the same issue with my Wing
I ran a test last night, turned all radios off (flight mode showed on home)
Battery was at 99%. In the morning it was down to 56%. My wing battery is made in Taiwan, and the phone is made in China.
Are you still having the same problem with your replacement Wing?
Thanks!

Finally someone who has the same issue, now i know i'm not crazy! I just ran the test on my replacement wing, it still does the same thing!!! I woke up with only 54% battery remaining from 100%
1 thing i can eliminate is, this is definitely NOT caused by batterystatus plugin, it had this problem before i even installed that program.
my other none t-mobile included programs are:
skype
phatnotes
tcpmp player
thunderhawk browser
(none of those 4 programs are running in the background) and i went to sleep with a brand new soft-reset and made sure no programs were running in the background. i do however always have an alarm set to go off at 11am every day, but if this is what's draining the battery, then this phone is in some serious need for patching...
i'm seriously thinking this is a hardware issue or a system software bug, i think a lot of ppl don't notice cause they don't go into flight mode overnight since most of them don't care about cellular radiation lol i think 8-10hrs a night without cellphone radiation can only be a good thing, even if all the billion dollar profiting corporations that sells these things wants you to think it's safe
same thing happens to me, battery went from 100% to 50%ish overnight... this doesn't happen if you turn off all radios on your phone for only, say, 2 hours... weird thing... we need some experts of this forums to take a look at this issue, it's bugging me too
Huge battery drain on win phone of mode solved
OK, so not really solved, but figured out what the problem probably is, and a workaround. It's definitely a bug in the way the application is written.
I think the logic the way it is now is something like this:
If phone app is turned off
"Signal object" reports no signal available
Problem is, the "search for and find signal" object is not told to stop looking! And so, it tries to find a signal all the time the phone is off, draining the battery.
To test this, I switched the phone from Automatic network to Manual. This is under "Comm, Settings, Phone, Network". In Manual mode, the battery does not drain.
Of course, being in Manual mode has its disadvantages if you are traveling through roam areas where T-mo is not the carrier.
I uninstalled the t-mobile hotspot login utility and with all radios off, went to sleep (battery at 92%) for about 8 hours, now the battery shows 91%... don't know if that program is the culprit of all this, will test again tonight.
if this don't work, then i wouldnt mind switching my network to manual when going to sleep then switching it back to auto when i wake up

have you actually TESTED this or are you just guessing? test your theory overnight and we'll see if this is the case, i don't think it is since this is a HTC phone and no other HTC phones have this issue, unless they somehow managed to mess up on this model :\

I can only agree with half of your statements. You are NOT the only one with this issue... but being crazy? You'll have to answer that one yourself.
Now then, the method of switching the network from Automatic to Manual sounds promising because if it's actively looking for networks, even though it has already located one, would continue to drain the battery. I will be the guinea pig for this one and report back in about 12 hours (with this problem, my battery won't even last that long lol). I'm also going to set my SMS/MMS settings back to manual as well.
If I uninstall the T-Mobile Hotspot login utility, how would I go about REINSTALLING it?
bah, i thought i had it, but i didnt, i uninstalled the tmobile hotspot utility and this morning i was greeted yet again with 50% battery remaining... i don't know what happen the other night when it didnt drain to 50% but i suspect that it was because i had turn it on once in the middle of the night when i went to the bathroom.
so someone help us please!!!
Switched all network modes to manual, left the house at 8:30pm with a 66% charge, got home at 11:30pm with a 32% charge... and I didn't even use the phone!
The odd thing? When I was charging my phone, it said 50%... but once I unplugged it from the charger, it shot up to 66%. Perhaps there's absolutely nothing wrong with the battery and it's just having problems measuring an accurate amount of juice in the battery?
Either way, 10% juice in 1 hour is absurd... this thing is supposed to have a 200 hour idle life and we're not even getting 1/10th of that!
*EDIT* Hmmmm! I just checked my network mode and it went BACK to automatic for some reason! Perhaps it goes back to automatic after a soft reset? Eh...

lol i find it weird that everyone leaves their phones on at night when they goto sleep with the cellular radio blasting out unneccssary radiation, this has gotta be the case since not many ppl noticed this MAJOR flaw with the tmobile wing...! if you were expecting important calls at night then i understand why the phone must be on, but besides this reason, i wonder why the others leaves the cell radio on
Personally, I always charge my phone overnight, because during a days usage I often run it down to 50% to 30%. Thats about 12 hours a day in my pocket, just a few inches away from one of my most important body parts. If you're worried about nighttime radiation, consider this: if you go overnight and only drain 2-3% of your battery, it shows that the unit is transmitting very little, with not a whole lot of that radiation you are worried about. If you are still worried, turn it completely off, it only takes a minute to turn on when you wake up. If you use it as a morning wake up alarm, or have other needs to have it on overnight, try pulling the sim card, see if that helps.

Galaxy 3 Shutdowns

It happens only when I turn on 3G or I do some installing or I play a game. It says there's low battery and the phone starts shutting down. I've rooted and tried various ROMs but still nothing. What could be the problem? I don't think its the software because I tried rerooting and hard resetting. Any help would be great!
Well it says low battery then it must be because of low battery. Maybe your calibration has gone wrong. Just recalibrate your battery and check.
Nope it's definitely not because the battery's low I charge it to 100% then for maybe 2 hrs its fine. But once I turn on 3G and use it for 5 mins it automatically shuts down. If I try turning it back on it does the same thing what can I do now? I tried to recalibrate the battery many times still nothing. I'll try some more but what else could be the problem?

Try changing kernel?? Increase minimum frequency. Maybe. If problem is still there. Flash your regions stock ROM and go to service center. Replicate the problem there.

What if you keep the phone plugged in with the charger and then turn on 3g or install something? Does it turn off even then?
If it does not, the problem is with the battery so replace it.
If it turns off even when charging, something else is causing the problem so take it to the service center.
dude i have had the same problem. i did send it to the service center - will get it back tomorrow if not, then for tuesday for sure..i know what your problem is .. your phone does draine the battery very fast - if you do something, or not isnt it? then when you swith your data connection on, your phone drains the battery withing 5 minutes to 0%. in reality its not a battery problem - cuz i tried another battery of a friend and the same thing happend again. but the battery of my friend isnt bad. :S

I have the same problem since one week (shutdown while i use 3G or Wifi, but battery is full !)
Revert to stock ROMs doesn't change anything, i've tried o lot of them (was on cyanogenmod before)

I can't do anything (no calling, 3G or wifi using, pictures taking..)

Battery Drain, almost solved. Need help from Dev.

Hello Everyone.
There is a battery drain issue in in cell standby and I think I just solved the issue. Let me go back to when I last experienced such an issue. It was when I flashed a ROM for my SGS1 Captivate called Cognition. There was a bug that left wifi not only on but it was active during sleep mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12294219
It was later solved by the Dev and the draining went away.
What is different here is that the SGS3 only has this bug when wifi is on. Look at my battery charts when I have wifi on and wifi off. The red area shows the slope with wifi and the blue area shows it without wifi. This is during standby times.
So is this due to the wifi dual banding just taking up more battery? Or is the phone not properly tuning the wifi down in standby? Solving this issue is out of my hands now and I will have to hand this over to someone else.
For now, change your wi-fi sleep policy to shut off when in sleep mode.
EDIT:
So I think i figured out why the wakelocks are happening. Other people have the problem with dynamic IP addresses.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/563008-battery-saving-tip-really-works.html
I don't know why these other fanboy war threads are bumping and so popular but a serious problem doesn't even get a response or a second look. Does anyone else have any comments on how we can get this fix? We need Samsung to fix this problem too.
I will make this post for two reasons;
To bump the topic
To say that i would also like this "bug" to be solved

I'm experiencing some kind of battery drain too with sgs3, but mine it's not wifi related. I have as first voice in battery stats page Cellular Standby. I mean, it's almost impossible it drains more then the screen!
Anyway, giving a look at your screenshot, I can clearly see some areas you didn't red boxed when wifi was on, screen was off but battery drain was not terrible at all.
How do you explain them?!

Yeah, I mean my battery life is still good, but I know it can be better. Now that I made it turn wifi off when it's asleep the battery life, the slope you can see there in blue, is a lot better. It's not so slanted and draining as quickly.
A lot of other people that complained about bad battery life I noticed the same trend, it's their wi-fi also. If you notice the long blue line on the bottom, that's when wi-fi is active and those extreme slopes have to be caused by wifi. Cell standby shouldn't be draining the battery more than the screen I don't think.
It's either wi-fi, the radio or both.

I don't know, I guess that is when the wifi properly shuts itself off.
When I look at my screen while I'm not doing anything at all I can see the orange arrow on the wifi on, and it stays on even though I'm not using the internet or anything. What can that mean? Is the orange arrow "uploading" or "downloading?"
EDIT: It's downloading. And I set the wifi to shut off if the screen shuts off. The Wifi sometimes shuts off. But right now it refuses to turn off even in sleep! And the orange arrow is lit up!

Did any of you people tried flashing different modems to resolve this?

If you turn off the wifi then wont it just use the normal data connection and so use more battery? I was led to believe that using wifi was less demanding than say 3g.

Yes that is correct, but read my OP and the thread I posted. A wifi bug is the wifi not powering down in sleep mode. It stays on at full power during sleep and drains your phone.

I tried a couple of modems, but in vain. Cell Standby is always much too high. Wifi is beyond good and evil.
I would by now also lean towards a bug. Unfortunately I'm not a Android dev. My knowledge ends at developing apps.
I am satisfied with mine
ive noticed smth:
with Droidwall blocking everything -> still wlan sends smth & causes traffic
hows that possible? u guys can experience the same?
under 3g/edge and droidwall everything blocked: no traffic anymore -> everything is ok!
Have any of you guys tried easy battery saver? One of the features is to disable radios when screen is off. I wonder if it is more successful in doing this than the built in setting.
I got the same cell standby problem so I went ahead and flashed Omega ROM, yesterday was my first day full with that ROM and the result was quite good. I ended up with about 45% battery after about 15-16 hours. Well I'm on wifi for like 3-4 hours though.
Drain caused by exchange sync process. Kill this process and see how battery life will change. Sorry for my english.
Curious, which F/W are you on? I was getting oddball WIFI battery drain using an older LE9 insecure kernel to root at first (WIFI would actually shut off and come back on after coming out of idle... even though I had it set to "always on.")
Completely went away after I flashed back the stock LEF kernel that my phone shipped with.
For reference below, no drain issues during idle with WIFI left "always on."

[Q] Galaxy Note 3 massive battery drain and power button problem.

Hey guys.
My first post ever, so please bare with me.
I made a big mistake updating to 4.4.2 coz I've had only problems since that. I have a rooted SM-N9005 with a Danish carrier. I have read and read and read for at fix, but can't seem. to find on. . My problem is this.. I can have a fully charged battery, unplug the phone and can, by using the power button, turn the phone off and on again. BUT if I pull the battery out and insert it again after 10 sec, then the phone doesn't turn on. It only turns if it gets the power cord in again. That's the first problem.
The second on is the battery drain. I have done a dalvik clean, cache partition clean, factory reset, soft reset, hard reset, uinstalled pretty much every app that I have... nothing helps. I even bought a new battery.
Can you guys help me or guide me in the right direction on what to do??
Thank you in advance

How quickly is your battery draining? Can you post a screenshot? And more details - custom/stock ROM, kernel etc.
You can try and pin down what is the biggest battery hog with Better Battery Stats.

Hey B3311
Thanks for the reply
A couple of screen shots. Even when using BBS I haven't been able to pin point the exact cut print
Dreadful drain indeed....
Can you see what's under "partial wakelocks" and "kernel wakelocks" in BBS?
You had wifi on but still huge drain when the screen was off and the phone was asleep, hence I'm thinking wakelock - something is stopping your phone from sleeping. But you need BBS or Wake Lock Detector to pin it down.
They can be a ***** to find, but can be zapped.

Hey Jdomadia
Pretty much everything is off.. data . GPS.. Bluetooth and so on.. I'm still wondering if my problem is due to the power button issue that I'm having
Hi Bro i had the same problem the source of it is the developper option just desable them from settings and every thing will be normal again i hope that works for you too
Hey Abdel310
That never cross my mind. Better Google how to disable them once I have enabled them. Bro, I tried everything so I'm gonna try this straight away!!
Just did it, and man if that helps I'll be the happiest camper you'll ever see
i had the same problem i left my phone fully charged and i go to sleep and at the morning i found it off and 0 % battery and no apps runnig just try it and full charg it and it will not drain battery at lest in the sleep mode
Sadly disabling the developer option didn't fix the problem..
it still drain battery in sleep mode ?
the latest screen shots from better battery stats. I can't find any partial wake lock that seems to cause the drain
It's starting to sound more like a malfunctioning battery itself. Especially considering your first issue.
Have you tried a different battery?
Also try it without the SIMcard. A malfunctioning SIM can also cause these issues. (Happened to me back on 4.3. Drained 12%/h, not a single wakelock and 98% deep sleep. No SIM, no drain. New SIM fixed it.)

If you can get your hands on another battery, just to test, try that (could be you bought a bummer battery) Do you have any friends with Note 3 you can swap batteries with just to see what it does?
Hey Burtcom
tanks for the reply. I can't believe that it's the battery, without knowing for sure. I'm still wondering if my problem is due to the power button issue.. as I mentioned, if I remove a fully charged battery from the phone and reinsert it, then the phone won't turn on. it will only turn on with a power cord.
Now my phone drains the battery even when the phone is off.. like completely turn off.

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F (Lineage 15.1) Wi-fi Problem/Bug

My SM-G900F has a bug/issue with connecting to the Wifi. Everytime I try to connect to the wifi at home, the wifi icon at the status bar wont show any changes.
I open the wifi settings, things got weirder. The wifi slider turns itself off after I slide it on @ (0:26)
I need help solving this problem :crying:
You can search for the video on YouTube with the same title as the post under my channel name JugahBarieng.
I'm a 1st timer posting here so the system wouldn't let me put the link.
Sorry for the incovenience and thank you for your assistance.

:crying: do you also have phone heating and severe battery drain when this happens?
I had similar problem with a G900T with a bad wifi chip that I think needs a reflow. When it warms up it starts to drain battery very fast and heat the phone. Wifi indicator goes to a ?, And eventually turns off if I don't catch it, won't turn on again till it cools off.
Airplane mode, or better yet power off and put the phone someplace cool for a bit, then see if it will turn on wifi again.
I don't have access to a reflow station, so I ended up just buying another s5 off eBay and keeping first one for testing roms.
Hope you get it working again good luck ?

yes sir. I do experience battery drain and phone heating. but everytime I turn my phone off, it will undergo a bootloop for hours. at this rate, I can only live in this situation because I'm too broke to buy a new phone haha. Once I guessed this happened due to the custom ROM I installed. I'm using lineage 15.1
